    I had that car myself. As a guy whose mom bought him Matchbox cars at the druggist's over 50 years ago, I can only say how lovely it was to watch you breathe new life into original components that I did not know a person could salvage. Wonderful. Thank you.

    As a safety and quality manager I do applaud you for using safety devices most of the time but will gently fuss at you for not wearing gloves more often when using any kind of paint stripper. Great job as usual and more entertaining than the other Matchbox restorers on UA-cam. I have plenty of old Matchbox vehicles and you have given me the encouragement to try restoring them. Keep up the good work and greetings from Sugar Land, Texas USA (the sweetest town in the Lone Star state).

    Great job Marty. Shame about the burnt face. Surprised you didn't paint the front headlights & grille. I am sure this will inspire many to have a go.👍

    • @Scottie_S
      @Scottie_S 5 років тому +3

      I tried painting the headlights on this particular car. The ridge lines for the headlights aren't great and I ended up with silver paint all over the place even though I used a micro brush. The original didn't have them, so I just decided to do what Marty did here and spray the lot.

    • @TheRealDrJoey
      @TheRealDrJoey 5 років тому +8

      @@Scottie_S Thanks, 'cause I was also wondering about doing something with the headlights. I still think the bumpers would have looked good. I also think Marty should have foregone the metallic paint. I thought another thin coat of the high gloss would have looked way better. The clear windows was unusual, and came out unreal after polishing. While he was polishing that with the q-tip the thought occurred to me that maybe Marty ought to see if his wife has any manicurist's nail buffing cream. Possibly that and a chamois buffer would work pretty well.

    • @Scottie_S
      @Scottie_S 5 років тому +2

      @@TheRealDrJoey Well, the metallic fleck was in the gloss, so he was going to get that one way or the other. I didn't mind the look of it. Also, considering what Marty appropriates from his wife, your suggestion is spot on!

    I discovered these videos a few weeks ago and I must say, they are excellent. I've never had an interest in restoring Matchbox models but Marty's Matchbox Makeovers have me fascinated in the process. His vocal delivery, editing and the occasional whimsical insert are marvellous. I find watching them surprisingly relaxing. A great experience. Keep it up, Marty. They're neat! As a 60+ year old, I remember when these models came out and must have played with a quite few of them. So much nostalgia.

    First of your videos I have seen. I had a matchbox car identical to this as a young boy in the 60's, though my memory is that it was green. I played with that car until it fell apart. I also raced an E type on highway 9 in Massachusetts in 1981 on my Honda motorcycle in the night. I did not see much besides his tail lights. One of my favorite cars ever. Truly iconic. Thank you for bringing so many memories back!

    When I was growing up in Portland Oregon, I had that exact Jaguar XKE from Matchbox in 1962. I was about 6 years old then and it was my first Matchbox toy. I started to collect them after that but eventually switched to Hot Wheels like the rest of the kids.
    Vance, the older kid next door, had a white Shelby Mustang from Matchbox that you could turn the front wheels with. Very cool at the time. He eventually got Hot Wheels as well and his collection was always the best.
    Vance never left that house. He became a backyard mechanic and started collecting real cars. Whenever I would google our house, there was Vance's house surrounded by cars.
    A year or two ago, I went to Portland to visit Vance along with my dad and two brothers but sadly, his widow told us he had passed away three years before.
    I realized then that knowing that Vance was still living there next to our old house had been a source of comfort over the years. It was like I could always return home.
    But with Vance gone, there's only strangers living in the neighborhood now and what our whole family always considered as 'home' is gone with a sure finality.
    Don't put off revisiting old friends. They're gone too soon sometimes.
    R.I.P. Vance.

      @@dntlss Unfortunately it is in my country and the worst of it is in my city, London. You have to know what's going on everywhere else to see what's likely to be heading your way, like the Paris riots and, thanks to our government and the people that control them, it's coming fast. I'll be out of this country for good as soon as I can put enough in the bank to pay for a safe exit. Where to go? that's why I need to know what's going on everywhere else, no sense jumping out of the frying pan blind and I'm only going to do this once. However, I take your point and as soon as I land somewhere else I'll be throwing the phone in the bin and pretending it never happened. I'm 62, lived in/around London all my life. It used to be awesome but now it's beyond saving so leaving isn't easy and it's real sad but there it is. So, thanks for the thought, I'm looking forward to doing the same.

Apparently, the collector received a matchbox for his 3rd birthday and then the little guy was hooked. Boxes and all. All in all it took 61 years to amass . Your video popped up in my feed and I figured I'd give it a try. Honestly I never thought I'd be interested in watching someone refinish a matchbox car, but I was definitely wrong. Really cool video, thanks for making it.

      @@connierosario9474 I did a lot of aluminum casting and I made green sand from kitty litter...used my blender to grind it to a fine powder.......polished up the blades too! It would work on these models as well.....
      If someone is doing this without any special tools, an old pickle jar filled with beach sand, fill it half full, put the body in, cap it, turn it on its side and roll it back and forth across the table for an hour......buffs right up!

    We painted ours green, used cd scratch out on the windshield, can't remember how we cleaned up the wheels. Wish I could post pics, it's beautiful again!

Utter bollo’hs and so Aussie & *possibly’ British humour. Especially the square patch around the eyes.... genius. You are so good at this mate keep it up.. even at the cost of me getting dodgy looks from the missus.... thanks mate. Hangdarkt UK ps. Goes without saying another excellent renovation. 👍

Ended up with a couple of hundred of them that were kept in a blue plastic boxes with individual compartments. when we ended up moving from England to Australia, I had to give them all away because we couldn't afford to bring them with me.
