Dear Marty I am a Turk and love to watch your channel while building my model kits. I just want to honor these brave men (Mehmets and Johnnys) who fought in Gallipoli. May I just remind you that we use the name Istanbul (used for 500 years) not Constantinople (Ancient name)? Also I would like to share the words of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk the founder of Turkish Republic who once fought in Gallipoli; “Those heroes that shed their blood in this country! You are in the soil of a friendly country. Rest in peace. You are lying side by side, bosom to bosom with Mehmets. Your mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries! Wipe away your tears. Your sons are in our bosom. They are in peace. After having lost their lives on this soil they have become our sons as well.”
Dear Marty, I am following up your channel since the beginning. I have Matchbox diecast cars since decades and my son is now playing with them. By the way, I am Turkish and proud of being Turkish. As you know, there is also very nice film of Russell Crowe which is "Water diviner" regarding ANZAC subject. In addition we have no koalas in Turkish land but we have millions of brave hearts and heros. And people is very welcome Gallipoli for Anzac day to Turkey every year. Hope this pandemic situation ends asap and people comes for it again. Thanks for this nice restoration video.

Marty, please don't feel the need to explain away the complexity (or lack thereof) of any model. It is a pleasure to watch your work and how the whole thing comes together in the end! And the bit with Kevin's relative was funny! Well done all the way around.
Who knew Kevin came from such patriotic stock. Here's to all the fallen Aussies & Kiwis from all the military engagements. Great remake on the bug. I always learn so much when I watch.

One of your best yet, Marty!! Love the Beetle. With an overgrown lawn mower engine, a simple bicycle-like cable ran from the accelerator under the car through a conduit back to the engine compartment. Even I was able to replace the cable. And who can forget the little whir sound it made as it passed by. Glad you didn't gussy it up. Great little addition to your growing collection!! Thanks for a giving us a bright spot in the midst of the doldrums of covid quarantine

Looks very much a silk purse to me Marty, Great restoration. The little VW is one of those iconic models, not flashy just very true to the real car, I love it and you brought that one back to life.
Awesome car Marty. I salute your military personnel who served in WW1. My own Grandfather was in WW1, he was an engineer and was gassed. He lived to the ripe old age of 89. RIP brave soldiers.

I used to own a 1960 Beetle. The first model with a square back window. It had a 6 volt battery. The round bit on the engine lid was a light for the number plate. It had a lockable handle to open it with.
Hi Marty, great video, keep up with the details as you work. As like most, I am spending a LOT of time in house, apart from my electronics hobby I have taken up making paper/cardboard models, there are lots of free templates. I do the same, sit down and head down, bum up and just have fun, with the odd play with my 3yo grandson. Quieter after he has gone to bed, late nights are so peaceful. Hi Marty, good job, as usual. There is an option to remove the added paint respecting in most cases the original and in this case could have worked, although it was a bit damaged. It is to use an oven cleaning foam: put the car in a plastic bag, cover it with the foam, close the bag, and leave it to work for 4 or 5 hours. Then it is removed and washed under the water with a small brush, just as it is done with the paint remover. The good part is that it don't attack the plastic, so it can be done without opening the car as it does not need to remove the transparent parts. It does attack the chrome, although the Lesneys do not carry it, but the chrome of superfast wheels would disappear, for example. Thank you for making this closure more entertaining. Appreciation from New York City. As always a beautiful job. I really love how the color turned out. Thank you for still providing us with an escape from the reality of the situation we are all in right now. I really look forward every week to watching a skilled craftsman restore what in my opinion are works of art from my childhood to their former glory or in several instances better than their original condition. Thank you Marty.
I recently retired after a 40 year career with the Canadian Army. Yes, 40. I've serve a number of times with Australian military personnel, most recently in 07 in afghanistan. Top notch soldiers, all of them.
Another fine restoration. Matchbox vehicles were always a favorite. Especially the construction and military equipment. Your voiceover descriptions are spot on. Easy to see from the photo that Kevin is his great-grandfather's descendant. 🚗🚚🚒
Thanks Rich, check out my other vids there's a few construction vehicles and also some military ones including aircraft. I think Kevin was trying to pull the wool over my eyes!
My dad used to drive an early '60s VW bug that was a light tan in color. As a child I remember going around in it. Next car was a 71-72 VW squareback in gteen. This was the car I learned to drive on in 1977.
Marty that was pure gold advice you gave about getting away and enjoying some solitude every once in a while. My wife and I both believed in this and we each gave each other that time to ourselves. It was understood that neither of us hated each other but you do need time to spend with your own thoughts and to enjoying something you liked to do. Myself. I enjoyed designing patches on my computer that would/could be used by emergency services. I've gone on to long but I did want to comment on that wonderful advice you gave.

It may not have been one of Matchbox's more "famous" models, but it IS a wonderful example of your talents and creativity, and now a valued part of your ever expanding collection. Hi Marty! Very nice video, including the Anzac memorial at the end. If it matters: that lump on the rear hatch is a mediocre representation of the housing for the downward-facing light that illuminates the license plate which is mounted just below. (Wikipedia has several illustrations.) I really love your display cabinet! Thank you for allowing us to "participate" in your restorations.
The VW turned out great Marty, as simple as it is, still one of the favorite diecasts to have, and a large salute to ANZAC day and all those who fought and gave their lives so we all can have our freedoms.
Marty, I think you need to add another M to your title and logo. M for Magnificent! Every model you do, shines like a new diamond. I enjoy every makeover you do.
I bought a second-hand Beetle (A$350 in1975) for my daily transport when I was a poor uni student. It had a crap paint job and eventually I discovered it also had very smokey motor. So in fear of an expensive repair job, I hurriedly repainted it with roof-paint using a hand brush and advertised it in the Sunday Times "Bargain Cars" section. Amazingly I was able to quickly sell it, and got my $350 back, then bought a second hand Mini which lasted for quite a few years. Now you tell me that a Matchbox Beetle is worth more than a full-size Beetle cost!
Great restoration again Marty, like you said, sometimes the simplest looking jobs turn out to be the most problematic, but that's where we add to our experience and work toward improving our technique. Glad to see you remembering the ANZAC forces and the brave men that died fighting. God bless and stay safe.
Great stuff. I owned a Beetle and its wiper motor kept packing in. Ended up tying a piece of string to each wiper blade and running the string through the side windows. When it rained I'd pull one one end and the Mrs would pull on the other. Voila! RESISTANCE IS FUTILE! 😁
Wonderful, restoration of this beetle, made in several countries, Brazil, México, USA, Germany etc... Thank you Marty, Congratulations.. Att: Lauro Elias, I`from Brazil.. Bye Bye. 👍🏽
As a vet in uk thanks to the guy's who fought in all the wars new Zealand, and Australia service personnel shame your governments took those freedom's away from you with draconian covid laws, thanks guys for your service
Very nice job on one of Lesney's humbler models (they can't ALL be 1908 Rolls Royces!) And I agree, there's times when one thinks, "why am I doing it? This is taking forever, it's not going to turn out, it's going to look awful!" But the sow's ear comes out a silk purse after all. 😎 The newspaper should watch how it places its headlines - - it seemed like the boater brewed his iced tea using his own wee. Which I suppose is possible? 😖 Looking forward to the next eight hundred-odd videos! Hope you and yours stay safe.
Hi, Marty, and thanks for another great video. I do have some bad news, however. I'm pretty sure 1960 was 60 years ago. Born in 63, myself, so I'm right with you. Enjoy the day!
Good to hear you meditate on spending time with yourself. It seems to be very contemplative pastime carried out in the present whilst referencing the past and musing on the future. Good to acknowledge ANZAC Day too. Thanks for sharing again!
Lest we forget indeed. Nice tribute. That car reminds me of my first car in 1980, a 1971 Superbeetle in almost that exact colour. I used to joke that it did 0-60mph in 3 days.
I had a '66 Beetle with a '70s Super Beetle engine in it when I was in college. I remember a friend remarking on a highway on-ramp, "Oh that's so cute, it's trying to accelerate!" I had to tell him it was actually a _hot rod_ Beetle, with _twenty percent_ more horsepower than a normal one... all of 60 as opposed to the original 50. :)
A beautiful restoration Marty, FYI the early VW’s were on a 6 volt system, I was forever getting pulled over by the police because my lights were to dim. 🇬🇧
A beautiful restoration of an automobile legend by a Matchbox legend.👍🏼 And about ANZAC-DAY... You might be surprised but even here in Germany there are people who celebrate the commemoration day of the Australian-New Zealand soldiers. I am proud to be one of them. A mate of mine lives near Perth and whenever he visits my wife and me here in Northern Germany we spend a lot of time talking about history. Over the years it has become so much for me that a part of my heart beats in and for Australia. Thanks for sharing and for remembering the ANZAC BOYS. LEST WE FORGET 🇳🇿🇦🇺👍🏼 Best regards to you, Julie, the team behind the scenes and the bravest koala of Gallipoli🐨 KEVIN (or his great grandfather) ua-cam.com/video/3nQyOm5u5_4/v-deo.html
Beautiful model in its simplicity and a great color too. And a nice shoutout for Anzac and in general, WW1 personnel. My grandad was in the American Tank Corps in Europe .
Beautiful colour on that one Marty. Lovely job as always and a nice little history lesson at the end. You mentioned your mother saying You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear". That was one of my mum's as well, and being of Scottish descent, she would also regale us with "ya canna get tuppence furrra hapney". Thanks again Marty
To me, this little model is just superb because of it's simplicity. So tiny, but it has everything that's needed for a car of that period. And you made a splendid job!

It turned out great Marty. Thanks for posting and stay safe.
Wonderful, restoration of this beetle, made in several countries, Brazil, México, USA, Germany etc... Thank you Marty, Congratulations.. Att: Lauro Elias, I`from Brazil.. Bye Bye. 👍🏽
Thanks for keeping the videos flowing during difficult times..
Loved the ANZAC Day nod Marty - makes an ex-pat Aussie like me very happy 🤠🦘👍
Glad you enjoyed it
60 Marty. It's 60 years old.
However - I'd love one of these. And yours looks just fantastic.
As a vet in uk thanks to the guy's who fought in all the wars new Zealand, and Australia service personnel shame your governments took those freedom's away from you with draconian covid laws, thanks guys for your service
Nice touch at the end Marty. Not too many know about ANZAC Day. We will remember them.
The newspaper should watch how it places its headlines - - it seemed like the boater brewed his iced tea using his own wee. Which I suppose is possible? 😖
Looking forward to the next eight hundred-odd videos! Hope you and yours stay safe.
Fantastic restoration 👍👍😊
Hi, Marty, and thanks for another great video. I do have some bad news, however. I'm pretty sure 1960 was 60 years ago. Born in 63, myself, so I'm right with you.
Enjoy the day!
Stunning result, the colour is great.
Lovely shade of blue. Very nice! Also, best wishes to those celebrating the memory of Anzac day (including great grandkoala Rupert)
Good to hear you meditate on spending time with yourself. It seems to be very contemplative pastime carried out in the present whilst referencing the past and musing on the future. Good to acknowledge ANZAC Day too. Thanks for sharing again!
Chris, you have summed up this hobby perfectly!
Love those newspaper headlines! Another fine job!
a great looking car and a history lesson. a two for one video. nice
Glad you enjoyed it James! Marty.
A beautiful restoration Marty, FYI the early VW’s were on a 6 volt system, I was forever getting pulled over by the police because my lights were to dim. 🇬🇧
A beautiful restoration of an automobile legend by a Matchbox legend.👍🏼
And about ANZAC-DAY...
LEST WE FORGET 🇳🇿🇦🇺👍🏼
Best regards to you, Julie, the team behind the scenes and the bravest koala of Gallipoli🐨 KEVIN (or his great grandfather)

The restoration is spot on, looks like it was right out of the box. Stay safe!
I would watch a video of paint drying if Marty was narrating.
The latest "NEWS" of KEVIN 🐨?😂👍🏼
The paint job turned out beautifully!
Not too bad , thanks Justin.
Fine piece of work, sir, and never mind the model isn't much. It was lovely s always to watch it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great little Bug, they have always been my favourite vehicle. Loved the history lesson at the end.
Had the Matchbox and eventually the car, in that colour, cheers from Scotland 🏴👍🏻
So cool!
That looks beautiful. Love the fact that it's so famous that Matchbox just called it a Volkswagen and felt no need to add Beetle.
That's because originally it was just the Volkswagen (not Volkswagon Marty...). The people called it the Beetle, not VW.
Beautiful model in its simplicity and a great color too.
And a nice shoutout for Anzac and in general, WW1 personnel. My grandad was in the American Tank Corps in Europe .
Great job Marty that car was one of my dad's favorites. Thanks for including the little history segment at the end, those men need to be remembered!
Nice touch , and that’s not just the paint work 👍🏽
Beautiful colour on that one Marty.
Tuppance and harpney , ?
I might use that one, I like it!
Two pence , Half penny , with a Scottish accent :)
Nice touch at the end, mate.
Glad you enjoyed it
To me, this little model is just superb because of it's simplicity. So tiny, but it has everything that's needed for a car of that period. And you made a splendid job!
Thanks for watching Peter, glad you liked it.
Car looks great! Had a Beetle, wish I still did. Lest we forget.
