Today, we finally fit the Lexus IS-F 2UR-GSE engine in our SC300, and it's way, WAY harder than we thought, mainly because nothing fits. Time to break out the grinder. And welder. And elbow grease.

Hey Tavarish and Jared. Can you please post videos on your other channels.
@@Rao_Sahab_7878 it's wrench EVERY day not every other day
@@JaredConnell yea it's wrench everyday, not video every day :D
Ha! People think you two don't like each other... That's because you two are like brothers. My brother and I love each other, flat out, no questions asked. However, there are times when people might thing that we hate each other. It's the whole sibling dynamic. This can be achieved by brothers from other mothers too.
It's good to see the V8 chilling in the SC. It'll be even better once it is running.
@@xero256 It is written all over Tanishes face. He don't like Jared.
See even Jared needs a jared in the shop.
I was like Jared's helper looks just like him, lol.
Lmao I wasn't sure what type of sorcery is this
I was going to say Jared should introduce Jared
he is TWO PEOPLE you know
Jared's segue to the sponsor is very reminiscent of Linus Tech Tips.
Big facts
I think that's on purpose
Well Tavarish has said he stole ideas from Linus before
Manscape/ keeps /shadow legend/way to go. Freddie in welding training while Jared breathes down his neck 👍 cfunny
We appreciate everyone watching and support us with the sponsored segments, so it’s important to try to make them entertaining for you.
Freddie does NOT say “make questionable choices” with the correct amount of enthusiasm. Jared needs to say it.
Because I'm betting Freddie is the one paying at least 51% of the bills, and, whose name is on the insurance policy lol!
Tavarish: "I want to finish this, I want a finished project."
Jared: "who are you?"
😁
I like how "cleetus" is now an official car style.
I feel like even if you've never seen his videos just the name alone somehow conjures images in your minds eye. (unless you're one of those people that don't have that ability, I think it's called Aphantasia.)
Jared: "We will never be able to remove this coil pack without either entirely removing the brakes, or pulling the engine"
BMW/VW/Audi Engineers: 'Right, that is too simple...'
*takes a bump of coke* Water cooled coil packs for 2022!
@@vector6977 But first, they need to tell you about their sponsor! (linus tech tips theme plays)
I didn't know that Jared has an identical twin brother! No wonder he gets so much done in different locations at the same time! Who knew?
Tavarish's welding mask: "N Rules, O Limits"
Don’t dead open inside
Rules? Limits? What are those?
Ok, Jared has officially earned his Pro UA-camr status, that segue was smooth af...
When one Jared isn't enough...join another Jared (08:18), and you quickly make an engine swap happen.
I could always tell he had a twin, they probably do the whole friend swap all the time with Freddie to confuse him. One Jared is a hardcore gamer that actually likes Raid: Shadow Legends, the other doesn’t really care for it.
>"Like Earl"
>Tavarish: *internally screaming"
It’s too bad you couldn’t have used “Double Vision” by Foreigner for the double Jared sequence
UA-cam will generally demonetize a video for copyright infringement.
@@houseofno I know, that’s why I said its too bad
Still going to be ready before Sam's Ferrari.
Oo you coming for the throat huh my guy? Look 👀 if your step mother looked like sams you’d prob never get a whole lot accomplished and or completed
The editing on this video is actually really good.
I keep forgetting how much I liked the old Lexus SC platform until I see videos like these. It's just got such a massive engine bay that's just perfect for cramming other engines into. Because they offered it with the 2JZ and the 1UZ, it had to have both depth and width for either an inline 6 or a V8, so it's just so compatible.
Jared asking us about our experiences with demon lords, ice gollums, and doom towers was the thing I didn't know I needed today
Almost a year since we have had a update on this project. Guess it's just another Tavarish abandoned project. I think Freddy has abandoned more project in the last 4 years than he has finished. Don't understand the popularity when nothing ever gets finished.
Pure quality content with such a calm voice and manner! Greetings from a German hobby mechanic working on his lift in the farm house.
For spark plug problem:
Chase bays brake booster delete kit.
For hood clearance:
Hood hinge nylon spacers
It's nice to see you guys getting along again the counseling must be working.
That "dont look at the camera while they are welding" is hilarious. Its just like filming the sun you cannot go blind it is physically impossible. So funny.
Just lift the hood by apply washers to the hinges. Just use longer bolts. It will also help with heat escaping the higher hood. Old school method it will work and just slightly visible. Alternative to not hacking the hood. Please consider it.
You have the hood clearance you need between the subframe and oil pan btw
8:17. Does site A now have a cloning booth? Wow!
After seeing 14:14 I can see why spare Jareds are needed. That look scary.
Jared casually multiplies
_Jareding intensifies._
22:20 - 22:30 is the perfect spot for a popup Keeps ad, since I can't remember how many times in highschool I'd finish a lovely bead for my current machine shop and/or welding class project only to be greeted by the smell of my own burning hair. Because public schools in Ontario in the 90s were too broke to get the students interested in the metalworking trades those little welding kippah thingys.
This gets me so hype on my swap, currently swapping a 1ur-fse out of a Lexus LS460 into my 2nd gen Tacoma drift truck.
Freddie, you have two hands, you can use the other one as support and guidance for your welding path lol. You don’t have to hover one handed, also clip your stickout before each start when mig welding to avoid cold starts.
As others have mentioned, this car needs a shaker, or at least something that shows the IS-F engine. This way it can solve the clearance issue as well as make the car stand out amongst the crowd.
Needs a power buldge like the ISF had.
Is this project dead??
I think maybe Tavarish is of the 'More is Better' School of Welding.
Grinder and Paint make me the Welder I ain't 😉
anyone think that Freddie has lost his smile? Seems like he isn't having as much fun
To be fair you look knackered Fred.
He has a toddler and big bills he is probably just tired as hell.
It's 110 in Florida. That isn't easy to smile and work in.
I totally forgot about the little one. They are sleep stealers for sure
@@BuildTheSandbox it never gets that hot here.
Great content gentleman. Somehow both sarcastically and genuinely?!?!
tavarish was too busy playing raid shadow legends to help
I know this may be a crazy suggestion and I don't comment much. Since you guys are committing to this car so much I think It would be cool if you modernized the interior a little like you did to the BMW you gave to Jared's wife.
Oh man freddie is asking for (sun)burns on his arm. I have some experience with that "These few fast welds, I don't need my jacket" and what then happened... Next few days were pure pain with burnt arms having to wear jacket, didn't feel that nice.
Yeah I’ve done that too. Welded all day in short sleeves and man was that burn for real. Good way to keep tan in the winter though 😂😂😂
hey freddy and jared you should make a skid plate to cover that oilpan that just barely hangs down past the subframe. just a thought! love the shows n videos! keep up the good job. And remember MAKE QUESTIONABLE CHOICES AND "WRENCH EVERYDAY"!!
In good old Collin Chapman tradition, add lightness :D
Hood needs to be Chevy ZR1 style with a nice window to see the engine.
14:24 Did anyone else think of that scene from The Martian, where the scientist/engineers are talking about all the modifications that would be needed for that rocket at the end? lol
😂
Jared and Freddy bicker like an old married couple. Yes, they have their differences, but most of the time they're just messing with each other. End of the day, all they care about is making something beautiful together ❤
I don't think they can make children... can they? 😳
I used to have a 1975 Cutlass Supreme that had a 350 Rocket. I changed the cam, intake, carb, and headers. After that I had to install solid motor mounts because it would break the rubber mounts the first time you would punch it, but to change the plugs I would have to unbolt the motor mounts and headers and jack the motor up. It was a half of a day job to change a set of plugs in it, but boy was it a fun ride.
Duane! Your editing is gold! 👍👍
Thanks Steven for your kind comments! And thanks for watching :) -Duane the Editor
If you used ropes of modeling clay with viscreen plastic over it you could see your clearances with no mess. Works great for custom airplane cowlings. ;)
Creating two Jareds is the smartest thing you guys have ever done!
I always love watching. I just don't like the raid sponsored Ad spot, I would only ask you to look into them a bit and make sure you want to be associated with them of course if you can find the time to do so. I also realise you are just a couple of dudes who love to just wrech on cars and you are both extremely busy as it is.
As always I love the content and appreciate what you do and am inspired by it every time I watch.
@Lassi Kinnunen 81 I'd love more of those male grooming kit ads or the ones tavarish does on keeps I'm in my early 30's and going bold and love those ads, I dont feel I need them but they are funny. I also don't really blaim them for the gambling ad it is a fat paycheck at the end of the day, I was just hoping to point out something that they may not be aware of. And I will continue to watch even if more episodes are sponsored by Raid.
Lol, you crack me up Jared! Thank you for sharing sir. 👊🏼👍🏼
make it a shaker hood or, a clear polycarbonate above the engine.
Loved the sounds made during time-lapse.
Need more Lotus updates!
Just thinking this! I want more lotus!
Parts are arriving, and it will be coming soon!
All the cars need like a loading bar so you see how far a long the progress is, then while waiting for parts you can see the bar go from 30% to 25%
@@TheQuestionableGarage so sick, I'll watch either way but the lotus has me stoked
8:14 thought Freddy was helping you out there for a second. Great editing! 😂😂
Man, this car is going to be the shit.. a dream setup for me... I live in CT but, would love get down there and take it for spin when it's done... very freaking cool, epic build...
I’m so glad these two buried the “wrench” 😂 I hated it when thet were fighting
what sort of guy spends time with his family over making questionable choices
Depending on the family it can be a questionable choice to spend time with them!
@@VolkerHett I know my kids act like questionable choices every day
Family is the most questionable choice of all. But then again, nothing is stronger than family.
Get comfortable and do a couple dry passes before you stick your arc. That way you can see if you can complete the weld in your position and if you can be smooth and steady. Consistent speed is big in a good weld.
Would love to see Tav drive all the way up to Georgia and fix your projects while you get some much needed family time
how about making a hole in the hood fits the engine cover and make this piece from glass i think it would be so beautiful and very obvious it's not a usual sc.
The Steel to Aluminum connection will create a battery (Galvanic corrosion)!
Not necessarily.
Excellent work Jared👍love my 92 SC400 and I respect your skill + attitude
I've used modeling clay for clearancing issues... it's good because it can also tell you how far off depth-wise something is. I bet it would be neater than the grease, but I guess the grease is good if that's all you have in the shop at the time.
You have great enthusiasm towards welding…..but can I please come show you some things? I did it for 10 years professionally.
You guys are wrong about the wood jot being permanent! Ever done a front motor mount on a front wheel drive GM car with a 3.8 liter! Well, by front I mean front of the motor, so the right gt side motor mount...they go bad and the main pulley will start rubbing on the frame, a wood door stop works great to get it off the frame and I had one that lasted for 5 years till I sold the car... so don't tell me wood motor mounts don't work! Lol
Funny!
Add spacers between the hood hinge and hood.
This is def one of my fav Tavarish/WED projects. Jared, you could have at least told Freddy to support the torch with his other hand!
two Jareds getting the engine installed is amazing, great work editor Dwayne
You should be creating a peek a boo window in the hood for the ISF motor like Chevy did for the C7 Corvette.
I like the cowl hood option. Looks stock with just a hint of muscle underneath.
I agree! A 1-2" cowl would be nice. It'll flow with the car nicely if they do the vented fenders and a quad stacked exhaust too 👌
You should do a transparent hole in the hood like the Corvettes do so you can see the engine cover, or a shaker hood like the mopars
It would be awesome if you did a clear hood area like the Corvette ZR1, then you can see the engine cowing.
pffft...Jared skill sets are endless lol. when you think he hit a ceiling,he then proceed to the impossible lol.
Make the isf hood middle section fit the sc400 one
Bruh Two Jared’s is the pinnacle of wrenching!
great job guys! really enjoyed the video. great music!
prep makes great welds... grind the mill scale before you weld especially mig to make it stick and stick to make it stick good. takes 20 minutes a day to practice in scrap and develop the discipline and stay in practice.
cover up guys... safety first safety last...
mig or any welding has UV light that will age skin and potentially cause skin cancer. take proper precautions.
burns from mig Sparks take years to show up... you don't feel it today but in 5-10 years look like you've had a burn accident... cover up in fire proof sleeves.... or a fire proof high collard long sleeve shirt.
tarv's mig wasn't too bad, nice frying beacon 👍.
I was catching up on your older videos for this build... kinda need a ATV or a borrow a fork lift or a more ideally a powered pallet jack... then fab a cradle with a way to attach it... and stop pushing motors, unpowered cars around with no wheels up ramps 👍. sure the exercise is good but it makes for long... long days... I know because I've been there... which takes all the fun out of doing questionable choices.😆
keep the videos coming 😉
Freddy. You guys need to build the most outrageous Baja bug. That would be so cool. 😎
Get a window'd hood!!! Shows the engine but gives you that extra clearance because of no bracing in the middle:)
FINALLY swap worth watching. This is going to be sick.
Jared, IMO you either took out too much material on the crossmember or you didn't put enough back. I suspect you are going to get stress cracks on that modified crossmember right at the corners where it turns to attach to the fame unless you put in a couple 1/4 thick triangle gussets front and back.
Love the content/vids guys, but RAID is just a money-grubbing pay-to-win piece of trash - and you guys are waaaay better than that.
"you know a tack is like a two-second thing, right?" I laughed so hard at that.
Will they finish this project before rich rebuilds v8 Tesla?
That hood situation cries out for a sleek, low air intake. Hood scoops that match the body lines level up the sillouette. ✌
Hi Tarvarish and Jared nice vehicle and video 📹 and workmanship!!! Make a hood scoupe and headlights !!!
Mount the coil pack some where you can reach make a spark plug cable
I use micrometer blue Jared uses grease.. same same
8:09 Everyone needs a team of Jareds.
23:59 I spot a Montero on the side
28:11 Tavarish finish a project?!? The world really is coming to an end! 😅😅
Jared: “Who are you?”
soon in the dutch car news awesome guy builds a lexus SC with an lexus ISF engine in it and it looks awesome follow the build at wrench every day
Man it’s hard to watch, you guys hate each other so much!!! How can you even be in the same room LOL!! Looks like you guys are having fun!
Fantastic build love it already, guys but a skill/reciprocated saw for the shop
Cut the structure of the hood in half very carefully then very carefully section the structure pieces and then very carefully weld them back to the hood.. not quite factory but it'll be close. Will it take a long time yes it will but it will be worth it... hopefully you guys finish this car it'll be a beast for sure. KEEP THE DAMN HOOD. I know you are in Florida but alot of places require a hood to be road legal.. I wish everywhere was Florida but its not..
Glad you finally move the propane torch (21:40) out of the way while welding. Was worried for a moment that it was going to be the last Wrench Everyday video 💣
I think you should do a hood cut-out. Showcase your work.
Im really really really enjoying this build i love your channel Jared
i know cause cleetus never wants his stuff looking factory... haha In the end, its all pieced together...
The twin Jared's turning wrenches is the best 👌
Do a glass top over the engine cover like a c6 zl1
Freddy, for the love of God…
Please never say SKRRRRRRT again.
We’re here for cars, not your hip hop dreams.
😂👌🏼
