  • The 2016.5 CX-5 GT gets spark plugs and an air filter. Pretty quick easy, don't let some quick lube place talk you into an air filter, do it yourself. No special tools on the plugs either. 8mm and 14mm socket and some anti-seize.
Plus are reccomended at 70K, I'm a teeny bit late but, right in there.

No! Don't add anti-seize to the new plug! Only for rusted/corroded threads on used ones that you clean up yourself! If you add that on a new one, the shiny one with a special coating that acts as a sealant when threaded in, you will OVER TORQUE!

From NGK website: " NGK spark plugs are installed at the factory dry, without lubrication or anti-seize. Anti-seize can act as a lubricant, altering torque values up to 20%, increasing the risk of spark plug thread breakage and/or metal shell stretch."
    Just a heads up!

You can also just use a magnetic pick up tool to grab the spark plug once you've unthreaded them.

That’s a good suggestion. For me, after remove the plug with 14mm long socket , I use 5/8 spark plug to get them out of the valve.

At 30k miles did a drain and fill of trans fluid (3 qts) with genuine Mazda FZ fluid trans fluid (light blue), was surprised how dirty it was after only 30k miles, bought 8 qts, will do another 3 qts the next oil change. Also did the front differential, used genuine Mazda Hypoid gear oil, didnt look so bad. Need to do rear differential, nothing is difficult, all pretty easy to do, saves so much $$ doing yourself. The biggest pain is removing the stupid plastic cover. I purchased a set of 500 plugs compatible with Mazda & Chrysler (also have a Jeep Wrangler). OE fluids are costly.

Did the trans at about 60 and yes it was surprisingly dirty. These newer rigs I try and stick with the OE fluids just to avoid choosing the wrong brand or something. Not looking forward to diff stuff...

you can shove an o ring or rubber washer that fits snug around the plug into a socket.

Can you tell us what the torque value was after you reset them. You should get a movie deal. You look like an actor making a promo video for mazda.

Did you require a "Thin walled" 14mm socket to access the plugs, I was thinking a decent 14mm Deep Spark Plug Socket (maybe Kinchrome) but I recently read that a "thin walled" splug plug socket is required ? I never changed them before on my CX5, it's just clocked 80,000km so it's probably well due for a change, so i just wondering what you used ? Cheers 🍻

Been a while but I don't remember using anything special. I'm a hobbyest so I only have a few sets of sockets:) Pretty sure it was my standard run of the mill Craftsman set.

How does one find OEM parts. I have looked on the manual and when I Google thousands of different parts come out.

Mazda recommends 40K, I usually forget and do it at 60 and the pugs look pretty good.

Dear you have to use a torque wench for set up spark plug torque specification. It's a low cost tool. Thank.

Wow that's so crazy. My baby (cx5) in the shop right now having the torque converter replaced lucky it's under warranty, then they tried to tell me it needs new plugs at $369 I 😆 at them like wth? Plugs maybe 15 each, I have 4 😆 so no ty I'll do that myself! Also 2 filters at $50 each (local store was $20 each) & they were trying to get me to do the system update @ $185 which i also found on yt.....FREE!
      This video helped for sure.
