After watching, that is exactly how I felt, like a conversation between friends. I think maybe lots of people especially the "boomers" may have never realized that the inappropriate touching/conduct was really anything to be concerned about. But it makes a person think about how common this really is and the people who do this.
I'm so glad the pod felt that way to you! Totally - it's difficult to see the reality of the behavior when it's been interpreted as insignificant and normalized for so long. But fortunately awareness of it is one of our our best defenses against it!
I can relate to what he said here. I was molested by a teenager when I was 8 or 9 a few times. I did not realize I was even molested until I was 31 years old! I had always felt it was something the two of us did that I willingly participated in that was naughty and wrong. I was naughty and wrong. Wild isn’t it?
It is so wild LosReyesSon! The willing participation interpretation definitely feels like a defense mechanism of the brain - anything we can do to normalize what's happening makes it less of a big deal. And the internalized guilt of the participation - I totally get that. So great that you were able to recognize what really happened! That feels like such a massive step in the healing journey. How has it been for you since then and how did you come to that realization? Thank you for sharing!
