Fun Fact: the "Hug" in the car at the beginning was actually a blooper. Tom Holland didnt know what to do so he hugged Robert Downy Jr. and he saved it by saying those words afterwards. I love that they didnt delete this scene :D
He and Tom have a few of those. When Tony and Peter are talking in Peters bedroom in Civil War, Tom messed up the blocking of the scene. RDJ goes to sit on the bed, but Tom forgets to give him space. RDJ saying: “I’m gonna sit here, so you move the leg.” was an improvisation that the Russo Brothers kept in the final cut.
@@daynejoseph2366 Yeah I bet there's more of those moments we don't know about, that's how Tom made it to Spider-Man casting finals, I'm pretty sure the RDJ audition was not the ending one (it was with Chris Evans) just because he could eliminate so many actors by improvising.
Asa Butterfield lost the role by bombing his audition with him and he said RDJ was constantly going off script... and thank god for that lol

Fun trivia. The voice in Peter's suit is Jennifer Connelly. Wife of Paul Bettany, who plays JARVIS/Vision -- helped his wife get the clutch Marvel voiceover job. (Even though she's been a huge movie star since the 1980s.)
Fun fact Jennifer Connelly was the doctor/romantic interest in the Edward Norton Hulk movie.

The reason Adrian/Vulture protected Peter when the other dude asked who he is was because Vulture now has a degree of respect for Spider-Man for saving his life (even if he still wants to kill him). Also Spider-Man has always had super strength. He has the proportional strength of a spider. In the comics, one time he even managed to throw HULK into orbit. And also, he is *CONSTANTLY* holding his real strength back by a HUGE degree. In the comics, Doc Ock once took over Peter's body (but turned good and continued to be Spider-Man in his place) and basically accidentally deleted a villain's head when he punched them without holding back, unaware of Spider-Man's real strength.
In the comic where he threw the hulk into orbit, it was not his Spider-Strength, but the strength of a character called Captain Universe, which he temporarily possessed.
He only managed to put Hulk into space because he was given the power of Captain Universe briefly. Peter could go all out not holding anything back and not beat the Hulk, sorry

The first time Spiderman met Hulk in the comics, he took a glancing blow and said it was the hardest punch he ever felt. Also in the early Spiderman comics, they said there were only three characters (at the time) that were stronger than Spiderman: The Hulk, The Thing, and Thor. Of course, a lot of stronger characters were added later. But Spidey is definitely stronger than Cap. And they didn't specify how his natural muscular strength compares to the mechanical strength of the Iron Man suit.
Vulture spared his life because he saved his daughter, so I assume he saved it again when he saved his own (Vulture's) life.

Spiderman is actually capable of unbelievable feats of strength when he needs to. The scene where he's trapped by several tons of debris, and lifts it off him, comes right out of the comics
According to the official Marvel profile for Spider-Man he can lift about 12 tons so yeah, he's pretty strong and that scene was near his limits but doable.
Spiderman is insanely strong. Like, not Hulk level strong but close, at least in older comics.
Current MCU movies Spiderman is weaker.
Notice that the Hulk got many powerups in his career, so it's hard to compare.
Point is day 0 spiderman is not much weaker than day 0 the hulk.

@@Linerunner99 - Yeah it's actually really weird that so many people don't realize/remember - he was bitten by a genetically altered/radioactive(?) spider test subject/experiment, and gained the powers/abilities of a spider - and everyone knows pretty much all insects have ridiculous strength to bodymass ratio, like ants can lift 100 times their own weight in nature, spiders, all insects really have this to some degree, and also, the spider that bit him wasn't normal, it was scientifically enhanced, so potentially the strength to bodymass ratio could be even more - this has always been the case, but so many people are like "How did he lift that?" - I don't understand since it's supposed to be common knowledge canon about Spiderman from like the 60s or something, you know? :)
27:57 I _ADORE_ this moment. In a split second Tony _perfectly_ demonstrates the very point he makes a few moments later. Peter is perfectly happy talking back to an empty suit of armor. He has no problem mouthing off to that, no fear whatsoever. But the instant that suit pops open, he almost falls over himself trying to scramble away, then continues to back away even after that initial shock fades, as Tony is just slowly strolling forward. Not backing away from the suit, but from the man inside it. Tony IS Iron Man, not a hollow piece of metal and circuitry. It’s the suit that is nothing without him, rather than the other way around, and for him to demonstrate that so effectively, both why it’s important and how it actually works, just before he says it, is damn awesome.

I am curious why is it that anyone who watches the newer Spider-Man movies think that Spider-Man doesn't have all of those powers without Tony Stark's suit. The only thing that Tony Stark's suit does is give him Tech, Spider-Man is super strong super agile stick to anything all on his own
Yeah, I honestly don’t get how stupid they have to be to think the suit does everything because In Civil War Tony showed him catching a car in his “pajamas” and then had the talk about how he is different and can’t play football. Even if they haven’t watch the previous Spider-Man movies in this movie they talk about the spider bitting him so you can assume he has the powers of a spider and then Tony takes the upgraded suit and Peter does everything by himself…like I don’t get how hard is for new viewers to understand his powers and they always underestimate him because his a kid. But he’s a kid that stoped Bucky’s punch while joking while Steve couldn’t, he’s a kid that defeated two Avengers, he’s a kid that took a slap from Giant Man and he’s a kid that also held a boat together from some seconds and do more impressive stuff later on in IW and End Game. like it’s crazy how MCU viewers underestimate him.
I think it’s the stupid ‘I’m nothing without this suit’ thing that the movie pushes. I mean I like this movie. But that whole conflict does not work when your superpowers aren’t related to the costume you have.

@@johnfive2440 Yeah but even then, Peter's motivation isn't to be an avenger, it's to do what's responsible and what's right. I mean Peter is right to keep going after the vulture because tony couldn't give a shit and doesn't do it himself because he thinks it's small stuff and it's not important. What makes Spider-Man better is that to him, there's no such thing as 'small stuff'. Small stuff is what got his uncle ben killed.
He is also super smart, the suit is a big help. But he obviously doesn't need it.

I love that in this point in the MCU they are doing things like mixing genres with super-hero movies. So here we have the teenage coming of age drama. Winter Soldier was a spy thriller in the vein of Mission Impossible, etc. etc.
It was always meant to be like this, Kenneth Branagh's Thor is a Shakespearan movie, First Avenger is a war movie, etc.
In case you missed it the clean-up guy is Micheal Keaton who also played Beetlejuice and Batman.
And the main character;in Bird-Man...I just think is a funny coincidence.

I love how Peter is forced to watch a video of Captain America lecturing him in detention. That really must add insult to injury, since he went up against Cap in Civil War, and lost.

The Tobey Mcguire movies were some of the first superhero movies I ever saw, and I loved them as a kid (still love them now, especially for Sam Raimi’s unique style). I think it’s worth reacting to them, and you have to watch the Andrew Garfield Amazing Spider-Man films as well. Not immediately, but just at some point before you see the third MCU Spider-Man film. There are little things here and there that you’ll appreciate a lot more having seen the previous iterations of Spider-Man.
Oh same, they were THE first superhero movies I ever watched and the reason why I took a chance on Marvel. I wouldn’t love the Avengers so much if I hadn’t seen Spider-Man.
- You know what I find interesting, and slightly annoying/odd ... I watch a lot of these Movie Reaction channels, and most people do the whole MCU series, BUT... almost none of them do the movie "Venom" which, like the Maguire and Garfield Spiderman movies, really aught to be watched before the third Spiderman movie "No Way Home" - Venom is definitely in the MCU because he is in one of the earlier Spiderman movies, and the New Venom movie definitely has relevance in this portion of the MCU series (No Spoilers here, but... you know)
Pretty sure he's seen Tobi's at least by the way he talked about it in parts throughout the vid. Edit: in fact right at the end after the reaction he said he has seen them its just been years

Despite the shortcomings of moviemaking in his era, I love Tobey's interpretation of it. (considering the era) And even though I believe Holland is probably the most promising Spider Man there's ever been, Garfield's emotional range pushes hard against even an RDJ-trained Holland, despite Holland's spectacular performance in No Way Home. (and the terrible hand Garfield has been dealt in Sony-driven Amazing Spider Man movies)
Keep in mind that I'm sayin' all this as a person who still considers Holland to be his favorite Spider Man to date. (despite the almost-perfect performance by Garfield in that particular Spider Man movie)

@@AspieMediaBobby he may have seemed a bit too suave with Gwen. Sure he tripped up words but he made solid moves to build a strong relationship with Gwen. Their chemistry was fantastic between them which may make him come off less nerdy. In all other aspects his nerdiness is fairly spot on. His Spidey was excellent, his pains of his family were well demonstrated. The movies themselves didn't always hit right (we know a lot of the reasons for that) but they nailed Peter and Gwen.
The difference has nothing to do with them or their acting. The difference is in the writing. Spiderman: Homecoming was simply better written than the previous Spiderman movies.
The Vulture didn't give Peter's identity up in the post-credit scene because he is still grateful to him for saving Liz's life (and possibly his own).

Ignore that "8 YEARS LATER" time card, it's false. The prologue was shortly after the Battle of NY in The Avengers (2012). Then the bulk of the story takes place a few months after Civil War (2016).

Tooms/Vulture is protecting Peter Parker/Spiderman because not only did Peter save his daughter's life in DC, he also saved Tooms' life in spite of everything he did and threatening Peter and everyone Peter loves. He knows that Peter only did what he felt was the right thing to do and Tooms realized that, and realized how dangerous the Chitauri technology really was when it nearly killed him. Peter knew how dangerous those alien power cells were and did everything he could to not only stop Tooms, but also to save him from himself.
That's why he was protecting Peter from that other criminal, since he knew that if anyone knew who Spiderman was, the criminal underground would stop at nothing to kill Peter Parker, and Tooms was not about to allow that to happen after everything Peter did for Tooms and his family.

Really one of the most underrated mcu movies in my opinion, it's just so good.

Peter’s principal is played by an actor that you’ve seen before in the MCU. He was a member of Cap’s WWII squad, implying that the principal is his descendent. You can see memorabilia from that character in his office.
This is also one of the most villain filled Spider-Man movies up to this point. Vulture, the Shocker, the Scorpion (Matt Gargin, the dude who talks to Vulture in prison), and Prowler (Played by Childish Gambino. He will be very important if you watch Into The Spider-Verse).

Spider-Man has always (in the comic books) been able to push himself beyond his normal limits by a stupid amount. That 'lifting the building' moment was one of the coolest moments of callback to the comics.
Yeap, he is considered around 15-20 tons but I feel like he can easily lift around 15-20 but when he push himself he is WAY stronger because we’ve seen it do a lot like 100+ tons.
For a long time, he was considered the fourth strongest hero in Marvel, behind the Hulk, the Thing, and Thor.
Gotta love the post credits scene with Cap. The people who saw it in theaters couldn’t just skip the credits so to them it was a little jab at the audience.

There are subtle references to the other Spiderman films like when Alex noticed the potential upside down kissing scene. So definitely watch them and you will appreciate the moments when they arrive.

I'm sure it's been stated by others but commenting about Spider-man's strength, he is actually insanely strong and they talk about it more in the comics. He constantly pulls his punches even against really strong villians so he won't kill them. There's a cool comic where Doc Ock actually ends up with his consciousness in Peter's body and he realizes how much he pulls his punches and comments that he is basically putting tons of effort into not killing people.
Strongly recommend watching the OG Spider-Man trilogy as well as ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ movies before you get to ‘No Way Home’. Don’t do any research, just trust and you won’t regret it. Awesome reaction btw! 🤘🏼🔥

@@alexhefnerstvmovievault I concur this, as the Spider Man films cross both Sony/Disney studios, and therefore should be treated as a subset cluster of the main MCU films. Since "No Way Home" has spoilers for other plot threads from MCU films, try saving that film until after "Avengers Endgame".
And highly recommend after "No Way Home" viewing "Spider Man: Into The Spiderverse". There's a concept used in "No Way Home" that is thoroughly explored as part of the plot of the "Spiderverse", and the primary character ,Miles Morales, is based especially on Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino, which explains his presence in "Homecoming". More on his character here is mentioned in another comment, quoted below:

I'm seeing a lot of people commenting about why Tooms would protect spiderman, but haven't seen anybody comment on the real purpose of that end scene. Mac Gargan, the guy who talks to Tooms at the end, is one of the most dangerous of Spiderman's rogue's gallery in the comics, the Scorpion. Showing him in the end like that opens up a whole possibility of storylines for Spiderman moving forward.
And they cast Michael freakin’ Mando and haven’t had the good sense to return to that yet! The anticipation is KILLING me

The main bad guy is Vulture played by Michael Keaton, who also played Batman a long time ago. Vulture and Shocker are part of a villain group called the sinister 6 although there has been more than 6 of them over time. Also, Spiderman can lift about 10 tons.

Spiderman has super strength. That's how he lifted the rubble. It's probably not as heavy as you would expect.
Also, aircraft that have multiple engines are designed to operate with less engines in emergencies, so since it has 5 engines, it would have no problem losing a couple. The issue here is that the fucked the plane up big time. If a few engines just quit it would be able to make it to an airfield to make an emergency landing. This plane is super redundant with 5 engines, considering most modern planes have 2 engines and are still able to operate on one engines and travel hundreds or thousands of miles in an emergency on only one in operating order.
Also, I would recommend watching the Tobey Spiderman movies sometime just before you get to...well just watch through them sometime soon as a bit of a refresher. You could consider watching the Amazing Spiderman movies too but...I didn't and I don't feel like I missed too much, but that may be because I've picked up on enough of it and seen enough people talk about it that I was kind of caught up without having to actually watch either of them.

The scene where Peter talks to the small-time hood at 24:43 (Donald Glover) was shortened for the final version, but on the DVD/bluray deleted scenes he says something about his nephew Miles: Miles Morales, the black Spider-Man from "Into the Spider-Verse"! Although the final version doesn't have it, they have been slowly dropping hints that this cross-over is going to happen at some point. Can't wait, and I hope they do it in a way that is great.
The best way to answer the Tobey and Andrew movies is yes you should watch them. The plots dont tie in directly but for appreciation purposes, yes watch them.

That end scene was showing once again that Vulture wasn't a specifically bad guy. He was a guy who had his livelihood destroyed. He turned to crime, but nonviolent crime out of desperation.
It will be a debated by folks. Vulture was arguably a victim. A decent small business owner that was financially destroyed by the government. Look at his part of the story, just his.
By the time you make it to the end credits, you see a guy who wanted to succeed in life for his family. He knew who Peter was and gave him a clear line. He never targeted people, only targeting the people who he felt took advantage of him and thoughtlessly ruined his life.
In the credits scene, he denied knowing Spiderman because he never wanted to hurt Peter. Peter wasn't his bad guy, in his eyes. Peter was trying to be a hero and he understood that Peter was good. Vulture was a guy who had his livelihood ripped apart by people who didn't give a second thought to the consequences of their actions on him and he understood Peter's perspective in trying to stop him from clawing back his livelihood that was taken from him.
The government/suits/Stark could have used him and his company, drawn a clear line for operations to protect the tech. Drawn that clear line like he did for Peter in the car. But they didn't and instead chose to just toss him and his workers aside with no regard for the people being hurt. They just destroyed him without even the tiniest amount of compassion, empathy, or respect being afforded.
Keaton's Toomes is still one of my favourite MCU "villains". You nailed it. He's a layered and complex and frankly very human character that was shafted to the point of turning to crime. A family man that took an opportunity to get security for his family. So many people who do this in real life so sans suit and alien tech he's pretty much doing the same thing.
I mean, he was an illegal arms dealer that threatened to murder a kid- but he was no Red Skull.

Absolutely, his motivations are grounded and he does have principles however flawed they might be, for those reasons he is one of the best villains in the MCU in my opinion. Also I like to think that his speech he gave to Peter in the workshop about the hero's not caring about the "guys like us" directly influenced Peter's choice with regards to joining the Avengers at the end of the movie. Spider-Man started off so keen to join the big leagues but came realize the smaller stuff also matters.
"Why is he protecting Peter?" Um... maybe because he was saving his life??
This guy never understand the storytelling, everything goes over his head so it’s even harder for him to understand character motivation and decisions.
Also Peter did save his daughter.

In the 70’s many urban centers were experiencing very high crime rates, and it became desirable to orient your hotel to the inside rather then the street outside. Hotels could control and shape the atriums inside their buildings when they were unable to control or clean up the streets outside. In “Loki” they show the interior of one of Portman’s hotels in Atlanta I believe as part of the TVA’s interior structure. The Marriott Marquis in Times Square is probably the best example of a Portman hotel. I only know this because the first time I visited NYC I stayed at the Marriott Marquis, and I was so intrigued by the architecture that I had to learn more about it.

You should watch Spiderman 1, 2 and 3, and Amazing Spiderman 1 and 2 to appreciate each take on the character and different styles by each actor and director. Even though, some of them get a bad rep, there's still a lot to appreciate about each movie

Yes, it would be great to re-react to the Tobey Maguire (and the Andrew Garfield) Spider-Man movies. Marvel occasionally pays homage to the movies that paved the path to the MCU, and the Spider-Man (and X-Men-have you seen those?) movies are certainly part of that path.
Also, have you seen any of the Netflix Marvel shows-Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, etc? While I really enjoyed them all, Daredevil is universally acclaimed and would be well worth watching. At least watch the trailer to get a feel for what you'd be getting into.

The nephew that Childish Gambino's character (Aaron Davis aka The Prowler) mentions in the neighborhood is Miles Morales (a different Spiderman).
Also, there was a little throwback to The Amazing Spiderman when Flash was driving to the homecoming dance he mentioned Branzino which is what Gwen Stacy's mom made when they met Peter.
Having Peter Parker at 14/15 years old was a great idea for the first MCU Spiderman.

As far as I understand, Spider-Man was not one of the original Avengers, but throughout the years he would make appearances in Avengers comics, team up with the Avengers, fight the Avengers, etc. At various times he considered joining or was a potential recruit. Eventually he did join the Avengers, but I don't know how long he was a member, or how often.
OK, so, there is so much to breakdown here and update you on.
Aaron Davis is the uncle of Miles Morales. Aaron is a villain called Prowler and Miles becomes Spiderman after Peter.
Toomes is Vulture and is a member of the sinister 6. His crew in this were Shocker and The Tinkerer. All well known villains.
Flash is Flash Thompson from the comics, Peters high school bully. He eventually becomes Venom.
Ned becomes a villain in the comics too. He becomes Hobgoblin.
Pay attention to surrounding characters too, they'll come back. Like Betty.
Actor easter egg, Principal Morita is played by Kenneth Choi. He played Jim Morita in Captain America who was in tye howling commandos. Its meant to indicate that Jim was his grandfather.

The moment that 1000% sold me on this movie was when Peter is trapped under the concrete and cries out for help. The quavering voice, the shaky pitch. The fear of death in his voice, you can hear that he’s in actual pain. This isn’t some man child in college. This isn’t an adult. This is a teen. A nerdy kid who does his homework and loves his family, who was given power so strong he has to help others. But he’s still. Just. A kid. This franchise has its strengths and weaknesses, as did all the ones that came before it. But I love how inspiringly accurate of a base character Peter is. How real it feels.

My favorite spider man love interest by a trillion miles. She’s so real and genuinely lovable and quirky but quirky because that’s actually who she is, not for the sake of being quirky. She’s a genuine inspiration to me.

While Tobey will always be MY Spider-Man, I can’t deny that the MCU Spider-Man really breathes new life into the character. I love the innocence and the youthfulness of this version of Peter Parker. Tom Holland really does a great job of selling that, I think he was 19 when he shot this movie, and perfectly portrayed a 15 year old. I bet this was one of the only times he appreciated looking younger than his age. I really can’t wait for you to get through all the Spider-Man movies, though you still have a ways to go before then. 😄
Really wish Alex would watch the 2 Amazing Spiderman films before viewing No Way Home. Would really add to the experience, but I realize it's a big ask for him to just casually slip in 2 more films
