The Walking Dead can never improve. It has the Gilligan’s Island problem where they can never solve the problem without ending the franchise. Everything will always be a rinse and repeat of what came before with minor twists. Even the comic realized this so it just abruptly ended with Rick dying followed by a time jump where they have managed to deal with Zombies while looking at a statue of Rick in his honor.

These shows now just change locations, then give the exact same plot, every time. It is boring.

@@rafaelarcas942 It should be easy to understand. The show Gilligan's Island could never have them get off the Island or the show would end. As such every attempt to get off the Island was guaranteed to fail. They eventually did get off the Island in a made for TV movie but then ended up back on the Island at the end.
How it applies to The Walking Dead is that if they ever solve the Zombie Apocalypse the show ends. If they ever make it to a safe place where there are no threats the show ends. As a result they will always be recycling the same struggles over and over again to keep the show going. They always run into a new group that is a threat and overcome that group. Or else they run into a new zombie threat they overcome. Rinse and repeat.

I really hated how the series built up the CRM to be some sort of elite military force only to have them be a complete paper tiger. But in general I don't think most writers know how to depict a professional military force so that is hardly a problem that is unique to TWD. Pretty often the depiction become a pretty cartoonish distortion of how the writers think a military force acts.

Carl’s safety was what Rick lived for. The show made that clear and then threw it in the trash. And for absolutely no reason. I see no justification for killing him. After he died, we had to just watch and pretend that Rick gives AF about being alive anymore. And I initially liked Michonne and Rick together but not after they killed Carl as he was a large part of their relationship dynamic. Now their relationship just looks awkward.

Honestly I just find it kind of dumb that they're still looking for Rick. The tension in that entirely comes from the fact the audience knows he's still alive. But the fact the characters just refuse to believe he died is just...really silly.
Yeah yeah I get it they love him and everything but what possible reason would you think he's alive? There's no way anyone would know that someone picked him up in a fucking helicopter, maybe if they saw that I could buy them looking for whoever took him but all they saw was that he either got blown up or fell in a river and then either died or somehow didn't. And yeah I know that they also want to find him at all even if he's dead for some closure but still it's been 5 years in a world infested with zombies, there's no logical reason to conclude maybe he's still alive or that his shambling corpse I guess just went on a huge cross country trip.
If freaking Daryl couldn't find him for years then they should have just considered him dead. It makes much more sense that he just died and got eaten like his first wife.

They should’ve had Danai Gurira write more episodes. They should’ve given Andy and Danai room and time to extend Episode 6 to truly dismantle the CRM. The plan initially wasn’t to do the Blow Up until Michonne received the child kidnapping meeting before destroying the entire town. That’s when Rick and Michonne decided to blow up the gathered CRM Soldiers. I think they ran out of money and time.

Beale believed or convinced himself the world only had 14 years left of survival. That’s what he tells Rick. The CRM was scheduled to go in gas and destroy the town, but before that, they plan to take only 10% of selected child population. Not all of the children, just 10%. After picking up the toy rabbit, Michonne enters the child extraction briefing and is understandably freaked out and horrified. After destroying Jadis’s dossier, Michonne was supposed to leave, meet Rick, and go home, but Michonne goes back grabs a box of explosives and running into Rick coming off the elevator they change their plan and impromptu decide to blow up the gathered CRM soldiers. For the time/money they had to end the series, Andy, Danai, and Gimble actually did a pretty decent job. A lot of people really wanted that family ending which would parallel the beginning, Rick being reunited with his family, and they gave us that. Greedy fans, me included, wanted/wants more, a Season 2.

All have endured and survived. All have had their weak moments and all of them have excellent character arcs. Which you would have seen if you'd pulled your biased head out of your ass and read the room. But if you think I'm going to choose Carol over Michonne and vice-versa or any of the other women mentioned above, then you might as well walk away right now. Bye B*tch! Gone on! Get!
As someone who just started watching TWD in 2022, it took me a moment because I wasn't into the fandom comments, but when I saw it... shiiiit! It's a bunch of sexist, racist, and colorist nonsense going on. Rick Grimes is a f*cking Beast. Michonne is a samurai lioness. Daryl Dixon, who I absolutely love and would smash day or night, is a Master survivor, sexy grunting, hog-riding Bowman. Carol is a sugar cookie Super Spy. Maggie is the lethal Stateswoman. Rosita a like a female Black Ops/Ranger Soldier. Sasha is the edgy, sometimes unhinged Sniper. And hell no, I don't like Negan because rapists don't get passes in my book. He made those women want to kill themselves and would have done the same with Judith had she been of age simply to piss Rick off. How anyone can allow him to floss over that is beyond me, but that's their opinion.

For community expansion, or maybe they thought certain kids would be assets as adults, most likely Bs who could be controlled and not make trouble. The point is that Beale, in my opinion, and not necessarily the CRM, thought it was necessary to destroy that community and take their supplies to eliminate any future rivals. He was leading that idea. After destroying Jadis's dossier, Michonne was supposed to walk away, meet up with Rick, and go home. Since there are ongoing spinoffs, as much as I wanted a Rick reunion with Daryl, Maggie, Negan, hell any of the home crew, I knew they wouldn't happen, and therefore there wouldn't be a satisfying ending. You can't have a reunion/homecoming with characters that are off to different places. So I knew the ending of this show was, unfortunately, dead on arrival before it even aired, so the journey of this spinoff didn't grab me. The welcomed return of Rick can't have a satisfying ending if the only people waiting for him were Judith who he hasn't seen since being an infant, and RJ who he didn't even know existed.
That said, if there was ever a possibility of this show and Rick's story ending with a bang, it should have been with Carl. Even if this show was a bit of a slog (despite Andrew and Danai's fantastic performances), if Rick actually reunited with Carl at the end after so long; if Carl became the leader of this new generation like he was destined to be, this could have been a sensational wrap up to the character of Rick Grimes (if this is where they choose to leave it).
But we all know that couldn't happen. I still cannot believe how killing Carl off has had such drastic consequences for the entire Walking Dead Universe, so many years later. Truly one of the worst decisions in television history.

I don't know if I would call it wasted potential. I think it delivered on what I've been wanting to see ever since Andrew Lincoln left in season 9: Getting reunited with his family. I did not expect the show to resolve that in just 1 season with 6 episodes, compared to how Daryl Dixon will get a (completely unnecessary imo) season 3.
I thought we would see a lot more of the CRM, but I think it would be problematic to make a potential season 2 interesting about that.
I wouldn't mind if the show got like 2-3 episodes more and the wrapped it up.
The problem with the main show for years, was that everything was dragged to eternity. It was completely unnecessary with 16 episodes pr season, and freaking 24 episodes in seasons 10 and 11.
I was just happy to see Andrew Lincoln return again. It wrapped up quickly, yes, but I wouldn't call it wasted potential. The show was mostly character driven, and it was primarily about Rick and Michonne, so I understand it from a writing point of view.
The only thing I missed was seeing the "season 5 machete Rick" that Gimple teased from the day that Andrew and Danai went on stage at Comic Con to announce the show 20 months ago.
    That Rick never appeared.
But overall, I'm satisfied. They should just leave it at season 1, imo. Although I hope Rick and Michonne somehow returns again.
