The more the better. My hair is a bit longer than shoulder length. It is honestly more wavy than curly, but what alot of effort I can get it pretty curly. Still having a problem with flat roots and those baby hairs haven't stopped and I'm 53. I do have highlights, but my roots turn very brassy so we do more of a bayalage with foils with more of an ash color to cover my greys. But my hair is always dry. I am consistent in using a mask weekly. But I literally couldn't even blow dry it straight or straighten it because it will never be flat. My hairdresser said the only thing that would help is a keratin treatment but that will ruin my curls. I've used Olaplex, K18, I have 7 brushes, 3 shelves of hair products and a closet full products. I have a shower head filter, I have tried everything and I constantly try using different combinations of products. And of course I have your towel, I wear a bonnet, have a silk pillowcase, have the Dyson. I have tried every tip you have given and spent more money than I care to admit on everything you have used. I'm just doomed.

I just want to say I love you! I would hunt you down and make you be my friend if we lived close 🤪 not creepy at all. You’d love me too and want to be my friend, I’m pretty awesome( so I hear 😂) . Additionally- I’ve been an OG never have straightened my hair by choice. 2x have I strained my hair- a Dominican friend made me in my 20s and my sister in my 30s. Both times were a fail. I figured out on my own before UA-cam and IG how to best care for my curly hair. I found ouidad in 2002 in an add in a magazine while waiting for my OB, pregnant with my first. The climate control gel has been my go to and always go back to after trying SO many products that have come out since. I’ve not tried the ones you suggested. I’ll do it once I’m out the Miss Jessy multi cultural cream. I really like that and mixed chicks leave in. Those two are in rotation with always having a giant climate control gel. 😘 my point is… you give all great info and it’s validating to what I’ve learned in my curly hair journey as I figured it out with out all the amazing content you create. Would’ve loved this during my journey. BUT I still love watching it because you’re so fun and my friend 🤪 tho you don’t know it.

One of your BEST videos. You are an interesting person, not cause of super cuteness, but your ability to make people feel like your in their room and real friend. What a gift----ok so I have chopped the hair, stopped highlighting and going au natural. And for the first since 1983, Ive seen my color and it's.. chocolate with red and blond....who doesn't want that! Right!? I have learned so much about patience. Your uploads, are how I relax. I listen to videos, while applying oil on the scalp , with leads to my favorite leave conditions......and the hair has become, so much more than I thought possible. And most important I'M HAPPY. Very good video, like the bullets on the screen, helpful.

You are my hair hero, I learned SOOOO much from you about my curly hair and probably watched 80% of all your videos (seriously!). Besides your seemingly endless ocean of knowledge I always loved how much of your genuine kindness came through every one of your videos.
That's why, honestly, it was kinda hard for me to watch the beginning of this video with quotes like "Failing to Plan is Planning to Fail". Personally I was so drawn to "personal development" that had that kind of feeling coming with it as a way of "living life better" but actually trying to "living life right". I can't know how you think & feel about it obiously and I hope I don't come of rude. I just want to let you know that you're already a full and complete person as you are right now. Apologies if this isn't appropriate, I just really felt drawn to write this. With much love, Michael

I’m 66 yrs young, my goal is to lessen hair thinning. I can use all the help I can get from you! I’m so happy I found you to follow. Surprised by how quickly my curls are returning. My main issue is I’ve lost range of motion in both shoulders, unable to reach above head or get to back. I can scrunch all areas but can’t use brush on top or back of head, same for finger curls etc. Any suggestions?

I don't know if this is even a thing, but have you looked for an extra long handled hair brush? I'm picturing one of those extra long shoehorns, but in hair brush form. If not, are you able to get some sort of brush holder attached to the wall in your shower? I know it would take some practice, but it might work! I wish I could donate you some hair thickness, mine is annoyingly thick and everyone tells me I'll be grateful for that one day, but it's sooo hard to manage. I'm going to bleach it later today, and then hopefully go a very light pastel pink, I've wanted to do it for about a decade now, I'm so excited!

I like the idea of setting goals. It really works for me in my life. I have a big goal and then set the small and smaller steps to reach the overall goal.
I purchased the Silk and Sonder habit/goal monthly journal and calendar. I ordered a years subscription so I'd actually continue doing it. It's great. You customize anyway you want, change things, it's all up to you. You get a fresh calendar every month. It's been helping me so much. I started it in September and I'm still going strong and making progress.

Mell, you have helped this 'newly retired' older gal! I wore my hair really long, braided down my back to keep it out of my face and the curls 'pulled' out - while I groomed dogs! I watched several of your videos over the last few days and decided Goal #1 - Start taking care of me and embrace the wavy-curly hair the Good Lord gave me! Went in today and got about 8" cut off! The stylist was so cute - I suggested dry cutting it because of the curl, etc. She agreed and with the first snip, said "whoa! you were not kidding your hair springs up!" I love the shorter me (still mid back) and purchased the products to moisturize/help my hair. Thanks for your encouraging videos!

I have waist length wavy/curly, medium to high porosity hair. And there’s a lot of it. I started to brush my hair more because I got a bamboo brush for Christmas. I thought I was helping it by conditioning it, and now I’m seeing split ends!!!! This has inspired me to go back to what works, gently detangling while wet! Thanks for reminding me to not do something because someone else says too, do what works for me!

Goal - to have a "hair renaissance". I am 53 and once had a full head of beautiful 3a curls using the "rake and shake" method I learned 15 years ago. It worked wonderfully - back in the day. I never updated my routine, or the "rake and shake" company's products that I've used ever since, and now my hair is just tired. I desperately need a reset and to update my methods and products. Thank you so much for all of your tutorials and recommendations. You truly know what you're talking about!! I am 12 weeks away from a hair rebirth :)

I love this video! I was expecting more of a video like one of your several hair health/diagnosis videos, but this is so much more than I expected!
The idea of using goals to diagnose hair health and assess your specific needs is really quite fascinating. Almost every video I’ve seen related to hair health talks about one specific issue and how to fix that one specific thing. Yet you’ve gone ahead and given a perfectly structured plan with SMART goals to help us figure out our own personal hair struggles. What a brilliant idea!!
I do wonder, what happened to the blog post? Did I miss it? I can’t seem to find it on your website at all, though I would love to see the post you ended up writing about this video - I love reading content because it helps me understand things even better than a video-only format for disseminating information.
Thanks so much! Here’s to healthier hair for us anll and a healthier and happier me!

A goal I'd like to fulfill by the end of summer: Find a shampoo, conditioner and cleanser that truly works for my hair.
I'd also want to figure out if my hair would do better with mousse Vs gel Vs cream, or if I ought to layer them in a specific ratio... But I'm feeling like this would be bitting off more than I can chew, so I'll settle that as my secondary or next-on-the-list goal.
For a couple of months now, I've been trying out a few different brands (with an "extra" clarifying session in between each) and keeping a journal of sorts on certain effects they have on my hair during those weeks - do my curls feel bouncier? Is my hair shiny? What about hold and definition? Any split ends or undesirable effects popping up? Is it worth the price?
I want to think I'm on the right track here, but any feedback would be deeply appreciated 🙏🏼!

Edited so say I've been instituting your recommendations into my daily routine, one at a time. thanks! And in the end, frizz prevention alone is reason but I also decided a bonnet would help my face avoid contact with styling products. I've also done the Malibu C Hardwater Shampoo and it was a VERY noticeable improvement, bordering on dramatic. It allowed my conditioners to moisturize and soften my previously stiff and dry hair. So happy!

Hi Mel! I am a new subscriber as of yesterday. I binge watched several of your videos last night (Incredibly Helpful and Fun!). My goal is to stop using my reader glasses as my hair accessory! Serious!! That and to begin blow drying my hair. I have to get up at 4:30 a.m. to get to work by 7:00 and had to cut something out of my routine as to not have to set my alarm for 3 a.m. So, I kept my skin care routine (and of course kept my shower and teethe care every morning routine) and cut out hair drying and styling. I air dry my hair on my way to work and plop an extra pair of readers or sunglasses (weather permitting) on my head as my hair "accessory". Not the most flattering office work look everyday for the past 4 years for sure and it's beyond time for me to change the habit. 😮😊

I have been on my hair journey for almost 4 years now and i feel like lately I have been SO close to getting it right but never truly quite there. It's starting to feel impossible to achieve the potential I KNOW my hair has since I already feel like I have tried so many things yet nothing is working. Starting to get the underlying suspicion that protein is what I've been missing all along - since at the start i focused so much on moisture to repair damage, now I've moved on from that and need protein to fix my hair falling limp only 2 days after washing. Also the clarifying seemed intriguing. I'm hoping with introducing all these things I can finally achieve hair with definition AND shape and volume, that i can only wash once a week and still be happy with how it looks for the rest of it

One thing I have done to promote healthy hair is talk to the hairdresser. I recently got my hair bleached...so since I do an oleplex 3 treatment followed by a proper wash and use a moisturizing hair mask on my wash day and will do it every week for at least 2 months. Heat protector. But it starts with proper brushes, and clean them often. I also make sure I properly wash my hair. Properly washing my hair and treating my hair with respect has changed my hair. It's stronger, shinier, and less frizz. My hair is beautiful. Healthy hair is pretty.

My hair has changed, the curls are abit looser and trying to get it them back to tighter curls. Any tips for limp curls? I am 34 now dont know if it is hormonal. Xx

Ok I have your recommended bonnet. I have a question. Is wearing a baseball hat bad for my hair? I wear my hat a lot. I have been told it’s causing some excess shedding but I was also told if I am in the sun to wear a hat! 😳 So if the hat is bad why is the bonnet good?

I used ti always only air dry my hair but after watching a few of your videos I have learned that that's not the best move. So if I do start diffusing my hair can it be using cold air? I really don't like using any type of heat on my hair even if I am hover diffusing.

Hello, if you’re studying hair, can you please let me know if you’re interested in talking to me about pili Torti condition.
I have this condition where my hairs are flat and twisted , but I don’t have any other symptoms or underlying conditions. And It’s not all of my hair only some but it’s definitely changing over time.
If you’re interested in examining somebody with this condition I am in the GTA and I would love to understand what’s happening to my hair, I feel like it’s getting worse with age.
I haven’t met anybody else with this.
