Mell, I enjoy your collaborations so much.
I have super fine, high porosity, thick, short wavy hair so I would love to see a someone with hair like mine. It seems all of the hair videos are with long hair which is easier to style than short (above the shoulders) hair. Or at least that's the case when I had longer hair vs short hair. Unfortunately, since my hair is so fine it doesn't look thick..ugh.
I've also noticed every hair video is dealing with dry hair or ends. My hair is healthy and not dry so creams and leave-ins are usually too heavy causing my waves to straighten. But I need a leave-in to keep it healthy. I prefer healthy hair over nice looking hair but to have both would be nice too.
Please, pretty please with a 🍒 on top do a collab with someone with similar hair to mine! 😘

MELL TOUCHED MY SPAGHETTT AND NOW IT LOOKS SO NICE!!! Mell, I cannot thank you and your sister enough for making this collaboration happened! I have wanted to do this for so long, and didn’t realize how terrible I have been treating my girls for so long. Thank you so much for your insights, for your hairy fairy godmother wisdom, and for helping me embrace my natural hair! My waves are so appreciative, and I can’t wait to share updates with you and everyone else… I also can’t wait to dive into your skin care routine!
From the bottom of my heart, and the papilla of the hair follicles that are embedded into my scalp, thank you so much for your insights, wisdom, and sharing these amazing products and techniques with me! ❤️

Thank you for being so real, sharing your struggles and for being such a wonderful guest, you are already helping so many others who are struggling to embrace their hair like you were. When you said “Rat’s Nest” my eyes teared up. I am probably more than twice your age, and as a kid in the 60’s I was repeatedly told my hair looked like a “rat’s nest” and if I would just brush it or wash it more it would smooth & straighten out. I thought that phrase had died out with the invention of blow dryers & styling cream & big 80’s hair. I’m sorry you had to hear it as a kid. Of course your beautiful smile & infectious laugh tells me you have long since gotten over it! I’ve been watching Mel almost since the beginning and I have shown her to every stylist that has touched my hair for years. She helped me love my hair, and I really hope the two of you will do a video update so we can see how your hair is doing & what Mel suggests as your hair gets used to this new routine.

Yes! I've been dealing with it for years and actually figuring out how to manage it without a topical steroid is part of my journey of discovering I actually have wavy/curly hair lol
I've never used VERB products before, but if anyone is looking for a cheaper option, I cleanse my scalp with a concoction using Dr. Broner's tea tree oil castile soap and then apply aloe to my scalp and hair while it's still soaking wet. And every night I dampen my scalp and hair and apply more aloe until I need to wash. To help with irritation I add two drops of peppermint oil and a few drops of rosemary and a couple drops of lavender to kind of balance out the scent. The oils can be expensive, but I find they last a long time, so I can plan to buy them beforehand.

@@lauralvw8445 Yes, wavy hair is not an insult! Just another kind of beautiful. There are some wonderful advantages to this type of hair too. Much faster drying and blowouts last forever, but unlike mostly-strait hair, it will actually hold a curl brilliantly when styled in rollers or a wet-set. It is kind of the best of both worlds in a way. You just need to know how to work with what you got.

Ok but when Cassandra talked about being told by a hair stylist who knows nothing about curly hair to BRUSH IT OUT and then put some EXPENSIVE OIL on it, she unlocked some memories from when I was like 11/12 and brushing my hair out with a boar bristle brush every morning and then coating just the top of it with ~~Exquisite Oil~~

Since watching Mel’s scalp care video a long time ago, I do not have issues with my seborrheic dermatitis any more. I searched online for years (like 10 years) and tried so many things some even made it worse. Dermatologist visits with not much change. What I’ve learned from Mel has worked: never sleep with wet hair. Use a clarifying shampoo, nyasol shampoo sometimes, and always diffuse until my scalp is dry, exfoliate with a treatment or even a brush in the shower with conditioned hair. And most of all curly girl method ain’t the best for everybody….and definitely not for a scalp with seborrheic dermatitis!!!

I’m really struggling with my hair because I can’t seem to find products that it likes but I’m also losing my hair so I’m desperately trying to hold onto what’s left 😫 I’ve been an organic hair oil every night and massaging into my scalp as it was recommended to me. Any other advice would be gratefully appreciated 🙏🏼
Videos like these are so fab though because we can see how products and techniques work on different hair types in real-time and also watch you show how to trouble shoot and rectify things as you go along to which is something you rarely see in videos 🦋
Again, Thankyou so much for making this and sharing it with us and I hope you have a wonderful day 😘💖🦋🌸🫶🏼
    xXx

My hair is just like cassandras and I have exactly the same scalp condition. Its so nice to see a curly hair routine that can work on my type of hair. I actually got rid of my diffuser because I found it would just frizz up my hair even more. 🙃

This is the best collab I’ve ever watched! I’m so glad I searched for wavy hair gel in the search bar and this came up as the second result. I got told by many hairdressers over the years that because my hair was wavy it would always be frizzy and not once did I have a hairdresser tell me how to look after my waves so I brushed my hair multiple times a day, blow dried it and straightened it often because I hated the fluffiness and the waves never sitting nicely. Then I started doing the wavy girl method about 9-10 months ago but wasn’t having much luck at first until I got a curly cut done by my local hairdresser who happens to be a curly specialist. I was just using a curl cream from the supermarket until that point. Afterwards I got a better quality curl cream (Moroccanoil curl Definer) and Moroccanoil Curl defining mousse but didn’t try the mousse until a few weeks ago. Had been struggling to do refreshes with the mousse as I find I end up a sticky oily mess the next day so put my big girl pants on and brought a gel. Today is the first time I’ve done my full routine with a gel and I’m hoping the results are better 😊.

Build-up is gone and not sure I could ever say that before. Always watch videos but nothing ever seems right for me but when I sawCassandra’s hear is much like mine, I knew this was the right one. Thank you! Just turned 43 Friday and finally figuring out what to do with my curls.

I adore you both and I adore this collaboration. This single-handedly so inspiring for me personally. My son is getting married in less than six months and so I'm really trying to revamp now for something that will work on a very special day in the middle of the summer heat. Thank you so much to you both for your explanation, honesty and sharing your experiences and life experiences, humor and creativity!

I love the conversation about scalp conditions. I also didn’t have family to teach me about my hair, and ALSO have a scalp condition called dissecting cellulitis. Because of it, I have to shampoo more often than most curlies say to. I appreciate the honesty of having a scalp condition because I also have been self-conscious about the appearance of my scalp, being red, bleeding, dry, and even some thinning of hair. Oy vay!

Haha get yourself a spray bottle, and diffuser and this will all be a million times easier and come out even better. I promise, very much worth the investment. I also grew up straightening my curls bc I never knew how to make them look good, but after learning about the curly girl method and finding people like mel on youtube to help with styling it has been such a game changer! Being stuck at home through covid gave me the time at home to experiment and learn what my curls like and dont like and how to style them properly. It's still kind of an experiment every time, but a fun one and has been SUCH a game changer to embrace my natural texture vs fighting it every day. I am SO glad you took the time to sit with mel and learn how to treat your curls, they look absolutely beautiful and I know you'll learn to love them! Happy styling!

This was crazy helpful, even for someone like me, with only slightly wavy hair, who just wants to learn how to let it air dry without looking like a crazy person. (I cannot use a diffuser for the life of me. Everything gets frizzy. I don't know.)
Just the little tips you included like wetting the brush to tame some frizz, SECTIONING HAIR when you try to use a brush to "ribbon" the hair... I'm just astounded by what I learned, just as a casual viewer.
Also, I appreciate that you're Canadian, because I rarely find products recommended by Americans... I'd love a video on some cheap wavy hair products!
You're such a fantastic teacher, so patient and thorough!

The unique quality of this video was watching Mel helpfully trouble shoot various difficulties as Cassandra was working awkwardly through the steps as any beginner would. Cassandra was cute and added a endearing kind of self-effacing humor to the interaction. Mel combined gentle patience with careful instruction and correction. As a viewer, when you watch experts demonstrate techniques skillfully and easily, it's so difficult for beginners to replicate this for themselves until they can with time and experience understand the nuances.

This was a joy to watch (I also kept screaming stop touching your hair! stop messing with your hair! but I digress :) ) I know what it feels like to find out what ones hair can look like. It also felt good to know I'm not the only one that styles awkwardly. The brush and the tension takes practice, and not picking up already styled pieces.

I'm fan-girl geeking out right now. I love watching both of you and learning so much from each of you. But to have you do a colab is blowing my mind.
Also, Cassandra, I know you are vegan... but my skin- A-L-L OF IT- cleared up so much when I did an elimination diet to identify foods that my body doesn't like. And then stopped ingesting those things. Gurl. My face, my back, my cleavage, my scalp- the cysts only happen like maybe once a year. And the scalp cheese- gone.
You two are amazing. Keep being awesome and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom.

Over the last year, I developed a scalp condition (nobody knows what it is still medically woohoo), but I had to stop blow drying my super thin, super fine hair and air-dry instead.
All of a sudden I now have waves with no product. They don't last long because my hair is so fine and fly-away damaged. I am sure I would start get somewhere in the 2a-2c range if I could style my hair properly. Unfortunately, I seem to have an immune reaction to most styling products (my face gets oily and my eyes tear continuously).
If I could find a product that I could use in my hair, I would love to try this routine and embrace my new waves.
I love how instructive and informative Mel was! There are a lot of women who are discovering waves or curls in their hair as they age (probably due to hormonal changes), and others have been really rude about "gatekeeping waves/curls." (lol why?!) I am going to keep this video for reference so I can try when I find a product that works!
