I was the editor and 2nd Unit Director on Quigley and I must say you did a masterful job of imparting the story with you selections and use of Basil's score. Kudos...Adrian Carr
"Said I didn't have much use for one...never said I didn't know how to use it." --Absolutley classic line...loved it as well as the entire movie. Thanks, Laura, for your effort. Cary
I love that opening scene...the carefull way Quigley packs his belongings. Precise & methodical. It almost imparts an ASMR effect, like Bob Ross, the scenic painter on public TV
Congratulation to (and thanks for) this good selection of scenes. May many people become motivated by it to see the whole film, because it is really worth to be seen completely !
An excellent composite summary of one of my top ten Westerns of all time (although in this case, it's Western Australia). Your editing of different music from the soundtrack to different scenes in the movie is wonderfully done, and it was a refreshing twist. Thank you for sharing this with film fans worldwide, and very well done...
Great work! Watched the movie for years, and have the soundtrack playing in the car sometimes when I'm driving thru Australia, and there are moments - it just *fits*. Thank you...nicely done.
Howdy Laura, This is fantastic. I watch and listen to this often. Quigley is one of my all time favorite movies. The music really complements the movie rather than being a distraction Thanks for this great posting.
I love this score. The track that starts at 6:44 gives me goosebumps. Everything about this movie was great. Tom Selleck is one of the last great western actors. Not many people can recognize what a great rider he is. Just wanted to add: The score for Starship Troopers was also AMAZING! There is a track titled "Klendathu Drop". Everybody should check it out.
I think you did a fantastic job of syncing the music with the movie!!! I know all the dialogue by heart anyway and love watching the movie this way with the soundtrack. Isn't Tom Selleck absolutely gorgeous!!!! Thanks so much!
Gran, gran Western.
There should be an Oscar for best performance by an inanimate object. This rifle and the one in "Winchester 73" certainly qualify. The 44 magnum in "Dirty Harry" too.
I can't believe how many people that have not seen this movie!!!, every time I tell people about it they say "Never seen it",,,,,,,one of my all time favorite movies.
Probably 1 of my top 20 films of all time, always makes me happy, maybe its the music, IDK but it is just a great adventure movies with action, even some comedy. If you Havnt seen it, i beleive its still on the watch instantly list on Netflix, or just get it from the net.
This masterful soundtrack has the sort of syncopated rhythm you'd expect to hear in Leonard Bernstein's scores for westerns but Basil, being the genius that he was, was able to inject something of the British/early Australian colonial "feel" into the music. I'm not surprised seeing that he studied under legendary master, Dr. Miklos Rozsa (Ben Hur / King of Kings). Basil loved Rozsa dearly and this comes out in his other music for films such as Conan.
Very nice video. The transitions are sometimes a bit choppy, but the selections and the rhythm work and picture and music are in sync - content wise. All in all, quite brilliant work. And your taste in soundtracks is great!
That statement was meaning you just messed up handing me the greatest marksman in the world a Colt revolver thinking l didn't know how to use it, and people from Australia is know where close as good as marksmen than in the US. And he proved it in a matter of seconds.
Any gun enthusiast of any stripe knows all about it. The movie single-handedly kicked off a Sharps rifle mania and gave cowboy action shooting competition a shot in the arm. Several of those Eye-talian reproduction companies make a "Quigley" model Sharps rifle.
i was watching the movie, not having seen it for decades...and probably on TV....i heard music when he was saying goodbye to Cora (after the fire and giving back the child, but before the big fight). it reminded me of the music for a TV western....can anyone ID it? in the movie, it starts at approx 1 hours:30 minutes into the movie. , he says :you sure look pretty in the morning sun, and gets on his horse , then it starts....
Wrong moose breath ( : Even today there are a lot of gun owners/shooters and hunters I know that have never seem the movie. One thing I really like about the movie is the realism, yes these rifles can hit a small target at over 1000 yards.
What is the music used when Quigley rides to Nikitanga? It sounds a bit like the piece used in The Stabbing, The Attack, and Marston's Men, but it sounds vaguely different. Unless it is just an excerpt from one of those pieces.
It's pretty amazing what a differences this score makes. Without it, although Tom Selleck and Alan Rickman are great, QDU would be a very forgettable B movie. With it, it's an epic western.
@LauraWhitehead1 It's a great movie. But the implications are monstrous. Is there actual nineteenth-century evidence of Aussie ranchers hiring long-range American buffalo hunters to exterminate inconvenient aboriginies?
'Merica. Quigley was an American sharpshooter who accepts a contract to kill what he thinks were dogs, "Dingos" but refuses when he realizes they are the native Australian tribal people.

Wow! The ENTIRE 'Quigley Down Under' movie in ten minutes! AMAZING!!!
"Said I didn't have much use for one...never said I didn't know how to use it." --Absolutley classic line...loved it as well as the entire movie. Thanks, Laura, for your effort.

The best musical score of any movie in history!!!
Great movie with a great cast and wonderful score.awsome.
This movie should've received an Oscar just for the stunt-work alone.
"don't know where we're going but there's no sense of being late"... favorite line of the movie.
"This ain't Dodge City and you ain't Bill Hickock." A fun. lovely movie and a wonderful tribute. Great job!
That infers a certain familiarity with Mr Hickok
AlN Rickman was absolutely fantastic! And Basil Poledoris was an excellent musical score!!!
I love that opening scene...the carefull way Quigley packs his belongings. Precise & methodical. It almost imparts an ASMR effect, like Bob Ross, the scenic painter on public TV
Seen this movie years ago on TV, but it was good to refress memories. I love this movie and it´s soundtrack. Nice work!

Feel the same way at 6:44! Best score. Basil was great
great job summarizing the movie. thank you.
Excellant job. I greatly want the soundtrack for this movie.

Another fine score by the late Basil Poledouris. His Conan the Barbarian score is an absolute masterpiece!
Hey Laura, Great movie, great music, & great video. Thanks for the post. lb
great movie and amazing soundtrack

Thank-you for this. The soundtrack is exhorbitantly expensive, so I listen on You-tube.
7:49. Who knew banjo could move someone to tears? ^_^
Oh, you did a wonderful editing job here. Isn't this one of the best film scores ever?
A beautiful delightful western movie! My favorite one...specially with the drama anfd the movie.
Excellent film and wonderful score.
I can't believe how many people that have not seen this movie!!!, every time I tell people about it they say "Never seen it",,,,,,,one of my all time favorite movies.
"Said I never had much use for one...never said I didn't know how to use it." GREAT LINE
Heh, I love this movie so much, and this is my favorite theme music of any movie :P
Ohhhhhh Hunt For Red October still gives me chills...
Such a great movie!!
They don't make movies like this anymore = (
I really like this movie, great Selleck, Great Rickman and what an ending!
thanx ....this was awesome one of my favourite scores!
a fantastic edit !
" The attack" is possibly one of the finest scores for a movie
You did a GREAT job !!!!
Excellent work on your video!
this song reminds me of when I was like 5 or 6 and used to always watch this movie at my grampas house. i miss it ^-^

@@douglasshortridge4343 He didn't learn when he went to LA to fuck with John McClain either.... lol!
I foudn it on amazon, this soundtrack rules. The tuba makes me happy! haha!
Excellent. ♡ T.E.N.
un western original (y ya es mucho decir) y bien contado, además de una banda sonora más que buena...

GREAT MIXING

Génial.
I am not a whiz at geography but I still remember from this film that the city of Fremantle is on the western coast of Australia/
6 of Marsten's men thumbs downed this video from out of range of Quigley's rifle
J'ai beaucoup aimé ce film.
Basil Poledouris

A eternal Knight spirit !
Would it be an exaggeration to say rhat Quigley Down Under is in its way as iconic a Western as Lonesome Dove?
I just cannot think of a casting job better than putting Rickman in his role.
It's pretty amazing what a differences this score makes. Without it, although Tom Selleck and Alan Rickman are great, QDU would be a very forgettable B movie. With it, it's an epic western.
6:55 whats the name of this song? I know Basil Poledouris composed it but I cant figure out what the name of it is
@LauraWhitehead1
