Honestly one of the most severely underrated westerns ever made, and a personal favorite of mine. I've watched it many times, it's that good. Tom Selleck, and Alan Rickman were awesome in that movie
@@Plutogalaxy Not set in the American west as you say but definitely a western in theme and style. The strong, silent savior guns down the creepy bad guy. In my opinion anyway. Love this movie. Have watched it many times.
@andreasmuller693 The conflict with Marsden and his men was good, entertaining, but I thought the saving of the natives got a little bogged down, lots of unresolved questions, boring spots..
My brother and I named our family mini Australian shepherd “Quigley” when we adopted him and were both about to leave for college to help fill our moms empty nest syndrome. He passed away today at almost 16 years old. Best brother a man could have. Our pup Quigley definitely lived a good life after his namesake. Going to miss you forever bud.❤
@@johannesmarg6903 I enjoyed both. Paul Hogan is a comedian. Tom Selleck is certainly not. Luckily our British actor Alan supplied the necessary humour or this film would have been gathering dust. All the best
This is one of my favorite films, and it is unquestionably my favorite Tom Selleck film; I've seen it so many times. Thank you, Tom; this was an ideal part for you, and you and Laura were amazing together. The tale, as well as the amusing conversation and smart dialogue, were very entertaining. To say the least, the other performers were terrific.I love this film!
By far best Western ever. Sorry John and Clint. This is a current favorite of my mom as well. shes getting forgetful so we watch this 2 or 3 times a year.
As an Aussie farm boy who grew up on westerns, how could I not like this movie? Outback red dirt, Colt open tops (some cap n ball) and double trigger Sharps buffler rifles! Lawd have mercy!
One of my favourite movies ever ...perhaps because located in OZ land ....the landscape might contribute a great deal :-) A superb Tom Selleck in anycase ....
I agree with all the positive comments below, however for a good scene, when he tells that British officer what the colonies did with our unwanted people, sent them back to England, that was priceless!
Exactly! I was scrolling down to see if anyone noticed they left that scene out. "We already run the misfits out of our country. (spits) We sent them back to England." 😂👍🏻
AS a kid I never really liked westerns. I have since started to enjoy some of them, but even back then this was one movie I absolutely loved, it was just that good.
@daveconleyportfolio5192 that’s funny if you think that proves anything. Racism has weird rules. I know because I lived around it for a couple of decades. Racists love to make exceptions for certain people, as in “I hate most of them, but a few are ok.” I’ve seen it many times.
That movie brought me so much peace. The calm country and time back then. The simplicity of living back then. Wish I had stayed living in the country. Away from civilization.
While the movie seemingly took some "liberties" with regards to the accuracy of the Sharps rifle, I have a 45-110 Shiloh Sharps Quigley (Movie gun maker) and can say they will indeed shoot 1 MOA at 200 and in the right hands with he right load knowledge, as well at ranges far past that. If anyone is bored with the "black gun cult" and wants a challenge. Take up long range black powder shooting. It will make you relearn everything you thought you knew about ballistics, history and movies.
On my bucket list to attend the Quigley Shoot in Montana at some point and to acquire a Sharpes. Perfect for a long motorcycle ride up thru the badlands, blackhills of the Dakotas over to Montana. Hopefully find an original Sharpes, but probably have to settle for a a newer production version. Got an opportunity to shoot one many years ago - kicks like a mule - at least the one I shot did.
All good but you missed one of the best scenes. Where Rickman and Sellecks characters square off with 6 shooters. Quigley just after Rickman's character gets shot. "I never said I couldn't use a six gun. I just don't like them" (Paraphrased the scene since it's been a few years since I watched the movie).
This is a movie ANY of the great western actors would have loved. Like Tombstone with val kilmer n kurt russel, me n my brothers have watched these so many times we've lost count

You might consider an Australian cattle dog as a next dog. They shed but the smartest, most loyal breed ever.
Tom Selleck, everything he's in is sensational, every role, he's confident and never arrogant
That's a top call.
I never would have called that!
In my opinion Tom Selleck didn't get enough recognition for his role as Quigley. A gem of a film with a strong supporting cast.
Because this movie was a cheap knock-off of Crocodile Dundee.
…well, it is actually better than crocodile Dundee…

The bucket scene is one of the best in all of western history.
Quite certainly
One of the best westerns ever made. I would love to see Tom do one more.
Try crossfire trail or last stand at Saber river. Also any Louis Lmore movie he stars in
@@timbradley1249 I love all of those!
He did quite well in The Sacketts
That has got to be the best non-western western ever.

I think the real Star of this movie was the "Legendary Sharps Rife", But Tom Selleck should have gotten an Academy Award for BEST supporting actor.
Got my vote rd.

One of mine and my dad’s favorite westerns, makes me miss him even more then I do! Love you pops ❤️
It’s not a western , it’s an Australian !
same here, the quigley edition sharps is on my list to collect. shiloh sharps was a legend of a gun
This and Lightning Jack are the best
This and "Man from snowy river 2."
You were lucky to have an agreeable Dad--my dad would watch Quigley but didn't want me in the room.

The shiloh sharps rifle has Quiqley model rifle 5 grand US and there is even a yearly Quigley shooting competiton

@@GoetzFamilyAsia I have to agree with you, I love the flying in High Road to China.
Best of Tom Selleck should just be the whole movie.
Right , way too many good parts to do might as well just show it all.
Gotta love the side-eye he gives Rickman when he's interrupted while lining up his shot - "I already don't like you, and we just met."
Yes ,love it
I’ve watched this movie 1,000 times. One of the best ever.
Rickman is by far my favorite villian took years for me to realize he was also Hans Grubber
He was also the evil sheriff in Costner's Robin Hood. ".... And cancel Christmas!" lol

The best of Tom Selleck IS Quigley Down Under. In my book, in the top 5 best westerns ever.
After the 1st time watching this on the big screen.. had to buy it.. VHS, and I still have it and watch at least once or twice a year
At 6'4" tall, Tom Selleck is the wrong guy to mess with even in real life.
One of if not the best of Selleck’s movies!
Just had dinner and now we are watching this movie 😊❤❤
One of the BEST MOVIES EVER MADE! John P.
One of the best films ever made!
Just watched the movie earlier today. Second time for me, first for my wife. We love it.
One of the three best of the 'modern' Westerns ever made. The other two? Lonesome Dove... and Open Range. You're welcome.
Quigley and Lonesome Dover were directed by the same guy and scored by the same guy. And agreed - three greatest westerns ever made 👍🏻
Love this movie! One of my all time favorites. One of the best Western movies ever. Watched it many times. Never gets old.
A perfect script for Selleck. Well played.
i have seen this 4 times now Tom Sellick great actor and so handsome !!!
I think this is one the Best Western ever

I was always hoping for a sequel, Quigley Back Home; but it never happened!
An auspicious arrival down under.
I've seen 3 times Tom Selleck is amazing person x
This, tombstone and magnificent seven are my favorite westerns
Tied with "Last Of The Mohicans" as my favorite historical sharpshooter movie.
