It's superb. Another Bernstein theme that comes close is his score for The Comancheros. Try watching the first three or four minutes. It lifts you out of your seat just as The Magnificent Seven does.

The Magnificent Seven is in my top 3 all-time favorite movies. Old enough to have seen the original in the theatre. Theme song is as fantastic and the movie. Never let apathy overcome you.
I did also, I saw it with my father at the drive in when it first came out in 1960. Wow, that was 62 years ago, and the movie and soundtrack still hold up to this day. The funny thing is the role of Chico who was a Mexican was played by a German actor.
Hey all. 20 year old here, born post 9/11. I've heard my grandfather play this tune on his sound system many times. Very powerful arrangement that will live forever. I'm an ice dancer and I'd love to incorporate parts of this theme song into a routine. Especially the coda...it blows me away every time I hear it.
When the movie came out me and my friends watched this movie most likely five times in the first two weeks. I can not remember any other movie I watched this many times. Besides, The ultimate love of my live grew up in a village in Mexico almost like the one in the movie
These were the stars I watched growing up in the 60s. As little boys we saw them as icons of masculinity, courage and kindness. Most of the current actors are movie midgets in comparison.

Every time I watch this it makes me tear up. I love this movie. My dad had this big library of movies on laserdisc when I was a kid. I found this one in there, grew up watching it and I watched it...well at least seven times!
I was fifteen years old when this movie was released and heard the score on the radio over and over for many months and never got tired of it. I love it then and I love it now. A commenter on here said that Elmer Bernstein was a genius. I concur.
This is my ring tone. Elmer Bernstein was a genius. There's a video online you can search for that shows him conducting a full orchestra. It is fantastic. Many people don't realize he also did the national geographic effect theme.
(Terrence)Steve McQueen owned the .44-40 Winchester that he carried here and in "Wanted: Dead or Alive". A cut down 1892 Model. He did not "know the right people" in New York City and was hauled in on a weapons charge. The NY City PD must have been pissed off when they had to drop all charges. He had an ATF permit.
As a Gen Z kid, my dad and both grandparents have been after me to watch the classics. Proud to say I completed watching this masterpiece. Initially, I didnt understand what was happening and nearly found it unbearable, however, the first fight defeating Calvera and killing his 11 men grabbed my attention. The movie isn't about the magnificent 7 just fighting for the villagers and being paid in peanuts, but about being part of something greater
If Elmer Bernstein had never written another note, his place in movie history would be secure with this score. This ranks with the best film themes of any genre, and is possibly the greatest one for a Western, though it has some strong competition.

Ok, lets narrow it down by genre a bit. Its A Western not an action hero movie, not military not historical. Or fictionally historical like Braveheart. so it may one of the top ten westerns.
I have the soundtrack CD and as I was driving across Wyoming and Montana years ago, I just had to put this on loud. It was so fitting to see the majestic skies, low hanging clouds, rolling hills and gorgeous rivers with this blasting away.

The remake was actually pretty enjoyable
never be remade
I've loved this movie since the first time I saw it. and believe me, in my country 40 years ago, Hollywood westerns were not an everyday occurrence... back then, my country was ruled by communists.
Greetings from Poland 😁
It's a great film with best actors of Hollywood in 60', and upbeat music stays in your mind forever. The genious of America. For me, this film is a great moment of movie.
This is a period of my life I'd like to live over again. Great stars and even greater movies
Oh man - there is just no beating Steve McQueen for pure American ATTITUDE. Between this and The Great Escape? Wow.
In my humble opinion, one of the best films that cinema has ever produced, is no longer made as it used to be, where the actors made the film.
This Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai" remade as a Western movie. Mr. Kurosawa was very impressed.
They just don't make these types of ensemble films anymore, indeed, I am not sure you could. Oceans 11 came close, I guess.
Easily one of the best movies Iv ever seen..love it!! Steve McQueen..class!
Najbolji stari film obožavam ga sto puta sam gledala.hura.
RIP Robert you were Magnificant
One of the top ten Greatest Movie Themes.
Absolutely . The best in
my humble opinion
Ok, lets narrow it down by genre a bit. Its A Western not an action hero movie, not military not historical. Or fictionally historical like Braveheart. so it may one of the top ten westerns.
A tribute to the actors in this film and to the great soundtrack. Thank for posting this. It means a lot.
Greatest Western ever. Greatest film soundtrack ever.
THE BEST WESTERN MOVIE!!! 💯
昭和の映画は洋画も日本映画も実たのしかったよもう、二度と此の様な映画が見れないのは寂しい残念です。
I have the soundtrack CD and as I was driving across Wyoming and Montana years ago, I just had to put this on loud. It was so fitting to see the majestic skies, low hanging clouds, rolling hills and gorgeous rivers with this blasting away.
Elmer Bernstein a man among few who added to the dynamic of a movie
Great music great actors great film of all time the best
Brynner, Bronson, Coburn and the legend Steve McQueen, can it get any better.
One of those movies where you just have to wonder... why in the HELL did they think a remake would be any good?!
Though it was also a Remake! Kurosawa made the original in 7 Samurai, in 1954! :D
The cast however of the 1960 Western is unbeatable! I fully agree!
Kevin Waller you said it. Have watched the updated version and it's good but not anything close to the original. Yul Brenner wow!
Ya’ and think,, these guys where just getting going then too. They were, as they say, “SuperStars in the Making”.
Toni Tuhkanen The remake was a joke. There aren’t actors like this anymore!
