      It's not so much the line as the direct cut to the door with Clint walking out in his pilot's uniform. We see his suggestion immediately, approve, and then look forward to the resolution--all within seconds. Great writing and direction.

      Only the person in the captains seat can steer the airplane on the ground with a little steering wheel to his left, so the copilot would have figured it out when Clint said "put us in take off position" as only the captain can do that.

He knew if he questioned Callihan right away or asked if he knew what he was doing or how to fly that the terrorist would have killed him right there. It wasn't until they had reached the "okay, we can't keep doing this forever" point that he asked Callihan if he could fly, betting there must be some kind of plan. Just my take, anyway.

      Listen to the engines - he's revving them up, then down, then up while on the runway.
      The terrorists didn't realize that he was messing with the thrust lever. Taking off requires full thrust and continuing down the runway.
      The first officer realized Callahan was about to enact his plan, revving up the engines. He knew sooner or later, they'd run out of runway, have to circle back, and they'd know he was never going to take off.

    This movie came out in 1973. There were more than 300 hijackings worldwide during a 5 year period in the early 1970s. It was called the Golden Age of Hijacking.

Now you can't even get inside the terminal without a boarding pass. Meanwhile you can walk across the border no questions asked.

    I was on that flight, glad Clint turned up to save the day. Also glad the video has been kept for posterity. I understand that it has been much used to train air crew as to how to deal with hijackers.
