Lalo Schifrin’s masterful use of horns in this arrangement is nothing short of genius. As it progresses and builds up dynamically it is perfectly synchronized with the intensity of the car chase. And you can’t lose with a 1-4-5 progression to swing baby swing. A tremendous soundtrack for sure. 👍😎

We saw this blockbuster at a huge drive-in theatre in Texas and the place held spaces for 500 cars and each car was packed with people----and most of the cars were huge. Ten minutes before the movie started, the box office was closed----the place was full. Unless you were there in 1968, you don't really know just how exciting this Saturday night out at the movies could be. The average drive-in screen was already much larger than even the largest screens in the downtown movie palaces, but the larger drive-ins, like this one, had THE largest screen in the entire state; in fact, it was one of just twenty screens out of 5,000 in the U.S. that was this large. This great drive-in had a playground, a miniature golf course, three snack bars, an arcade, and a miniature boat lake for the kids with state-of-the-art rechargeable boats! The 1960's was a decade that had its problems, but middle class families had it pretty good, and a night out at a drive-in like this one beats just about anything that is out there today.

In 1947, McQueen joined the United States Marine Corps where he was promoted to private first class and assigned to an armored unit.[6] He initially reverted to his prior rebelliousness and was demoted to private seven times. He took an unauthorized absence by failing to return after a weekend pass expired, staying with a girlfriend for two weeks until the shore patrol caught him. He resisted arrest and spent 41 days in the brig.[6] After this he resolved to focus his energies on self-improvement and embraced the Marines' discipline. He saved the lives of five other Marines during an Arctic exercise, pulling them from a tank before it broke through ice into the sea.[6][17] He was assigned to the honor guard, responsible for guarding the presidential yacht of US President Harry Truman.[6] McQueen served until 1950, when he was honorably discharged. @@ManfredWoeberli Robbery (1967 film) was the inspiration for the Bullitt car chase.....
Excellent!! Proper attitude.
100 % goosebumps when i hear the soundtrack ,,,lalo schifrins music was really so very cool i recall when i saw it on release i came into the cinema late but was struck how good the music was & then later car chase scenes wow ,had to see it again what an enduring movie it turned out to be all these years later, never will be surpaassed ,good acting action but above all that mesmerizing music by lalo schifrin ,dont think it woyuld be such a hit without the music soundtrack
It was a great time to be in San Fran, especially compared to today.
Cool as a breeze. Steve McQueen is worth 1,000 of the movie folk of today
Bijilians !
Agreed. Cool never shouts. It whispers.
I am sorry but who is Steve McQueen? 🧐
When Steve looks at the Charger... Ice man!
Very true. What I like in those older movies is that they did not need to talk all the time.
Lalo wrote dozens of killer soundtracks
the undisputed king of cool,he was excitement, and his on screen persona will never be equaled ,never, the damn cars were stars too
Oldest brother died unexpectedly 2 months ago, he was the oldest of 4 sibs~seven years older than me (I’m the baby) & my protector growing up. First sib to die 😿. Looked just like Steve McQueen & drove a light bronze fastback Stang in HS, my epitome of cool R.I.P. Robert James💔
one of the best car chases ever filmed, this one and the one in the movie 'The Seven-Ups' and of course the car/train chase in The French Connection, they have yet to be topped --- in my opinion
Add the original gone in 60 seconds. 45 min chase lol
Add the original gone in 60 seconds. 45 min chase lol
The "Seven-Ups" car-chase didn't really match the other two: Roy Scheider was no Steve McQueen for coolness and his anger just didn't match Gene Hackman's manic turn as Doyle, even though he tried and he tried and he tried.
@@None-zc5vg Steve McQueen was no Roy Scheider by any stretch of the imagination and I don't know what you're blubberin' about but I suggest you rest your skull and/or up your meds, you have ZERO idea what you're talkin' bout
Die Music 🎵🎵🎵 zu einem Wahrlichen Cineastischen 📽️ Meisterwerk 🏆 📼 🏆 der Amerikanischen , gleichwohl der Internationalen Filmgeschichte 🎬 überhaupt . 🗽
One of my all time favorite movies and soundtracks! Little known fact- Quincy Jones was originally supposed to do the soundtrack; can't imagine how the dynamic would have changed!
That makes sense. Quincy wasn't ready since 5 years later he went to Lalo for advice about a certain television show music score.
my favourite film of all time along with the day of the jackal ,
La poursuite en voitures est la plus célèbre au monde et elle le restera ❤
I like how right before the @@@@ hits the fan, the guy puts on his seat belt lol.
Lalo Schifrin at his best. Funny how many of my favorite movies are scored by him. This was also Steve McQueen at his very best. This movie is a landmark in cinema.
Fantastically well made, a masterclass in movie direction.
Steve McQueen was a man's man.
He barely needed to act.
Not funny at all. A great soundtrack can save a so-so movie. Not that this masterpiece was so-so! Great detective story, the best car chase ever, great acting by some of the best in the business.
"..Steve McQueen at his very best "
Yep.
Lalo makes jazz rock . He's majik
Une des scènes les plus mythiques...🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵 magnifique film, acteur , musique...
Perfect soundtrack for this great movie best car chase ever .
The build up to it Perfect.
R.I.P Steve King of Cool
Still great
I can watch this movie forever!!
Steve...the music...SF back in the day!
