When this game launched, i was 12 or 13. It simply blew me away. Today, words like "immersion" get thrown around, VR is taking up traction too. All of this will fail, without a proper, coherent and personal game design. Wing Commander had it, Rebel Assault had it and C&C1 (at least) had it too. The storyline made me really want to progress, just to see how it turns out. I miss this simple basics in a lot modern games.
The thing is, when you were 12 or 13 and the internet wasn't in everybody's pocket, it was so much easier to get sucked in a game and it's world. Sure it's an awesome game, but many people tend to forget, that immersion to games gets harder when we grow up, and we demand way more from them than back in the day.

Go watch films, shows, games and music of the 80's and 90's and you will experience quality you simply don't get today in terms of detailing, writing and a unique experience. Today everything is copy paste because almost everything is designed on an internet computer released to a dumb uncritical audience, it is so insanely easy to just look at dozens of competitors and copy their ideas instead of inventing new ones, with studios also willing to take risks to beat competition, and a lack of need to release a complete finished product when you can endlessly patch after release or instead cultivate a cult following by being political or virtue signalling on social media. Wow... I never even realized when I was first playing this, but after you started succeeding, Seth was angry that you were quickly becoming Kane's favorite. The following missions, he tried to sabotage you... giving faulty intelligence (Only a few scientists, really?), and eventually sending you to the US... But Kane was on to him. Seth was trying to get you to piss Kane off enough for him to kill you.

The hardest mission on nod was where you infelttrate the base just to steal the box thing and then returning to the drop off point, if the GDI killed your troop who took the box then you were screwed
@@philipped.r.6385 there's this one gdi mission that was hard and that was when you built your base and could have mostly gaurd towers as your defense for the base and you had to fend off nods flames tanks who did a number of damage to your base
I've always been fascinated by Nikoomba, the guy that we have to assassinate in Nod's 1st mission. The guy looks some kind of fat and bombastic south american military dictator that could have been from the much later Tropico game series. And he's some kind of random african village chief somehow. I wished that we could know more more about him! 😂

One of my favorite missions was where i helped another village allied with NoD attack their rivals. It was a massacre! I remember my favorite thing to do was set up my base right in the middle of towns and stuff.

Great collection, but don't forget the alternate cutscenes from Mission 7 (when you could destroy a GDI village with a captured Orca) and Mission 10 (when you could try to sabotage the Mammoth tank project instead of the Ion Cannon).
He wasn't my hero per se but Kane was the man, or at least kind of man I wanted to be 'when I grow up'. Intelligent, patient, strong-willed, direct, articulate & absolutely ruthless. Sharp dresser too.

It kept budget low & removed scheduling issues but most of all, unlike today they didn't have to deal with as much govt censorship, ultra-high taxation nor extreme over-regulation. You could 'hire' whoever for whatever bit you'd need without risking getting sued or arrested so it was win/win. The 90s were good times.

The developers strongly believed that wars wouldn't be fought nation to nation like they have in the past, they thought it would be a nation or a small group of nations versus a large, powerful group with no centralized government. Which is what they try to convey in the games.

I have to agree. Every time I completed a mission, there was a cutscene and made me want acomplish the next mission to understand the story.

Looking back at missions objectives, a lot of them tie in with what Kane wants for the C&C3 eg using the ion cannon to trigger "the event".
