Underrated asf. With this knowledge my internal struggle of understanding this series that stayed with me during childhood has come to an end. Thank you.
It's not a Solid title. It's just Metal Gear Rising. The saga is about the snakes only and Raiden "isnt" a snake. In other words it follows Big Bosses life.@@lionheartsda9999
I know if you buy MGS Subsistence, you get Snake Eater, MGS2, and the first two installments from the 80s. It would be badass though if they remastered all of the older ones (not that they're not good).
@@thirdgen377 I feel like to go back and really enjoy the original instalments you had to have played them back then, I love the franchise and entire story throughout all the games but I only started playing at mgs3 and couldn’t fully enjoy the first 2 as they were so outdated by the time I got round to trying them, still impeccable games for their time
I never knew my childhood could be summed up in three hours, 20 minutes, and 32 seconds. I don’t know whether to laugh, cry, clap, or all of the above. 😆 😢 👏 thank you my friend for making this. Long Live Metal Gear Solid!
So the best way to summarize the story in a few words: everyone is a double-double-double agent up to the point where nobody actually knows who they are working for and why..alteast that what you think but then they reveal that they had their own plans all along, and that they are actually super evil. SPOILER they're not they were just pretending, to fullfill their greater plan.

OUTSTANDING! OUTSTANDING! I've been a huge fan of the MG saga since 1988. I've always thought the story was a bit... convoluted. Lol. This was obviously a labor of love, as well as a concise & detailed summary of the lore. Now, the question I pose to you (and anyone else reading this) is, Should you play the games in release or chronological order? I've been asked this by my friends wanting to get into the MGS world. I generally go with release order.
I back this up, playing in chronological order helps you piece some things together but it makes you miss out on the whole "oh so THAT'S who that is!" and "Oh shit so that's why that happened in the last game/a few games back!"
I’d probably recommend more that people play one of the best games first, and work from there. I see the merit of release order, but who is actually going to get the OG Metal Gear as their first game?
I can appreciate the awesomeness of the entire story, but Snake Ester has always been my absolute favorite. I like it because you can play it as a stand-alone game, and the story doesn’t need to continue for it to be a masterpiece! This video shows a lot of effort
I searched "MGS story explained" and saw a few results about 10 minutes long but they weren't long enough. I scrolled down a lil bit more and saw this. "I now know what I'll spend my evening doing."
I just watched this whole thing through in 1 sitting for me it is currently 7:23am lol and it was worth it and through it all(half of it) my lil dog was with me. This game has been with me since I seen my big brother played it 😁 man good times and he gave me his ps2 and I got a copy of mgs3 and played that and then my brother gave me his ps3 and the mgs collection and I played mgs3 again and mgs4 along with black ops 2. I wish I could go back in time to when times were simpler 😢
"This is good isn't it?" A wonderful video showing off the beauty of this wonderful series. No mater what Konami does with it in the future, bad spin offs or pachinko machines be dammed, this series is absolutely fantastic and nothing will change that. A heart-filled story of sacrifice told with some flavors of quirkiness and the supernatural all comes together with raw heart.
I had multiple mind blown moments through many parts of this video, I knew there were some connections in certain games, but holy shit... this was a level I did not even realize until watching this from 2 am to 4 am
Imagine following it step by step since metal gear solid one, in desperate anticipation/speculation for the next release, all the cliff hangers, plot twists and finales were amazing all the way to Metal Gear 4 when the story ends.

I have to say that I appreciate all the time and effort that was put into this. I’ve loved metal gear since the NES and for the past two years, I’ve been finding that many people share the same love. Thank you for putting this together even if it was almost 4 years ago.
The way the plot ties together across decades in the metal gear universe with such detail is spectacular. The effort in organizing the story this way must've been challenging.

Ok on the subject of Portable Ops I'd like to offer my two cents as a lifelong MG fan: I choose to consider Portable Ops a part of the saga. You say it's a 'myth' because Kojima said only his games are canon, but that doesn't negate him saying 'most of the plot is canon'. There's a difference between saying 'the entire game is canon' and 'most of the plot happened'. After all, Kojima says a lot of contradictory stuff. He once said that his games are only 'interpretations' of the events, not exact records (long before he made Phantom Pain) so if that's true, isn't PO basically canon already? I don't blame him for wanting a Kojima Seal Of Quality on his games, but I have a feeling 95% of PO's story he would happily borrow were he to make his own version, because at the end of the day, it was a damn good story and acted as a missing link in the saga, importantly it answers the question of 'how did Snake go from lone soldier in Snake Eater to mercenary leader 10 years later?' Portable Ops explains this and many other questions, such as what happened to FOX and Ocelot. Also when the game starts out it's nearly identical to Snake Eater, including the character models and everything, you've got your jungle camos and no weapons and you're completely vulernable, so you're basically Naked Snake in Groznyj Grad prison, but by the end your this overpowered truck driving armoured mercenary leader badass. You actually feel like you're turning into big boss, and that's freakin awesome. The only thing I really didn't like was the villain, Gene. He was a great villain and all but I didn't like that he invented the whole 'outer heaven' concept which Snake just stole. I imagine this was probably the aspect of the story Kojima was most unhappy with.
Doug Wingate Personally I liked the idea originated with Gene and that while Snake was against it at first. The legacy of Boss and Big Boss leads to him accepting it reinventing the philosophy his own way. And I’d say it is canon even though he didn’t direct it. He wrote the whole story for PO and considered it fully canon while MGS 4 was being made and let a team work on it while he focused on MGS 4. Kojima though while I like him, he’s a very prideful person who kinda considered certain things he didn’t have full control in unimportant. He wrote the whole story for PO but doesn’t consider it cannon because he didn’t fully work on it. Also was petty about an unlicensed sequel to the first Metal Gear in America that he made his own and did not let the U.S. have it tell MGS 3. Kojima also with PW was going to just write it and let a staff work on it without him but he came back on to direct because he thought they did it wrong and no one can mess with his baby but him. Even so though PO is canon because the link is referenced and has ripple effects throughout the whole series even if it’s not the most direct all the time.
Don’t know why in the interview he claimed not to because if you look in earlier interviews back when he was working on MGS 4 he claimed to write the script for it.
Yeah, I am really not a fan of how many people ignore portable ops. Kojima said it was cannon, then specified that only parts of it aren't, then later says only the games with his name on it are part of the series. It seems rather clear to me that he said that so people know any game Konami shit out called metal gear are not a part of his story, not him retroactively disavowing the things that he already called cannon in portable ops. I really don't know how people make that leap.
I want you to know that this is by far the Best Video Explanation that I have ever seen on UA-cam. Your narration , your back ground music, the amount of detail and sub details were all on point. You are a Master at story telling! My whole body shivers with goosebumps. Thank you! For all your efforts in putting this story together I can imagine was not an easy feat. I can honestly say that I wish this video was another 3 hours long! Thank you from a long time fan! Wow! You have left such an impression on me and even though it was not your story I don’t think Kojima himself could have explained any better! There are many MGS Fans but you my friend stand above everyone else! Wow! Just Wow! R.I.P BIG BOSS!
This is why I will always love UA-cam and channels like yours. You can find a comprehensive deep dive on basically any topic. This is an incredible video. I've been looking for a video like this that sums up the entire saga for years. Thanks!
Metal Gear is my favourite game series oof all time. I love everything about it, especially the story telling and the way Kojima sets it all around real life events for the time period of said games. It almost feels real or as if they're actually trying to tell you something about what happened behind close doors in the real world. It has so many similarities to what really goes on. Patriots - Illuminati Double & Triple Agents - 60's were full of them US and Russian. Oleg Pentkovsky being we known one as well as Klaus Fuchs from the Manhatten Project. The mind fuck of a story is amazing and that before you even include the gameplay quality. Really love watching retrospectives especially on Metal Gear and this one is one of the best I have ever seen. You definitley deserve a sub.
"Colonel, I'm trying to listen to this video in the background while playing a different game. It's the worst mistake of my life. I'll have to go back and re-watch the entire thing."
You have done a service to mankind by compiling this lol. I played all of these games, most multiple times, and still I didn’t totally put all of this together. Amazing video!!
I needed this memory ❤️ my favorite game series of all time. Best story ever created. Kojima is a blessing to the world of storytellers. Great video man! You covered basically all we needed to see.
Thank you so much for putting so much time and effort into the making of this outstanding video! I've been a fan of the series since I first played at 12 years old. I'm so happy to be able to relive my childhood through this video!
Eh... not really. A lot of those “double” or “triple” agents are reoccurring characters. Each time they appear in a subsequent title shouldn’t count a separate instance of using that trope. Each character themselves, regardless of how many times they appear in the series should only count as an individual use. Like Ocelot for example. He’s technically a quadruple agent however he’s so integral to the core plot and big time mover in terms of making things happen in world of MGS, this shows up in pretty much every game. How ever he’s only a singular example. Counting every time he appears as a separate individual example is a little extreme. By counting only the character as a single use you get Ocelot, EVA, Paz, Zadornov, Naomi, Kaz, The Boss, Grey Fox and Big Boss. And I think that’s about it. Given the sheer amount of characters within the plot of the series that doesn’t seem like that much to me. However, I’ll admit I very well could be missing a few depending on the definition of double/triple agent and what actions constitute as making a character one.
I remember the "Dudu" melody so well...still Puts a Smile in my face anytime i hear this ❤ i Hope they Remake all of the old MGS even the two First MG Games
I wished for this all my life after playing Final Fantasy 7.... Don't get me wrong, REMAKE and REBIRTH are well-made games that are fun to play....but it is just NOT FF7. It sucks knowing I waited so long and finally got what I wanted....but it was not what I had in mind. Too many changes....almost a lack of understanding what made the original sooooo loved
Impressive Snake!!! Very in-depth video very well done and no adds to boot was able to watch the whole thing in 2 shots enjoyed every min of it 11/10 would recommend to any MGS fan
The best is yet to come is, to this day, one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. There's never a time where I don't get a rush of emotion and nostalgia when hearing it. Song is a 10,000,000/10 certified bop
He literally just stole all of gaming bolts videos recaping the series story and put them all together in order, all he did to alter the videos was remove their intro and outro
The amount of production effort and thought put into this video is amazing. You guys put a lot of hard work into it and it shows. Wonderful work. High quality. Thank you for 3 awesome hours not wasted.
Metal gear will forever be the greatest series of games ever. I'm sure there will be others, but I can't think of any other game saga where it turns out that we should be cheering for the bad guys all along, starting from The Boss through to Ocelot. The S3 program sounds an awful lot like The Great Reset plan by the World Economic Forum.
I never knew the games were our of order. The fact that the Metal Gears for Nintendo came out yeats before Playstion and the insuing games were prequels and sequels is just mind blowing and genius. My favorite game series ever!
@@KahosSaint I actually have been playing the MSX versions that came with the HD MGS 2 and MGS3. I assumed they were nintendo..rookie mistake lol. They're canon right? Cause Snake mentions Gray Fox and Zanzibar in MGS for the PS1
My headcanon is that the experiments on Jack were to have him be part of the beauty and the beast team, as he is quite beautiful. He could have takne the place of Grey fox but probably would have been called Ripper Fox or something. They then either A: Went "nah, the Team is for women" B:He was broke out before they brought him onto the team Or C: they realized he was a guy
Yea play them in order, you’ll enjoy it.. it’s legendary, I forget the one you have to switch around due to a certain character you find out the truth. It’s epic, man, you’re missing out seriously.
What a amazing ride we had here fellas, I am no nobody, really appreciated this video. Subscribe and like never gonna paid the experience which u gave. Thanks for the hard work.
The last moments of the epilogue in Metal Gear Solid 4 made a grown man in myself cry 😢 Big Boss, George Sears, Ocelot, Grey Fox, even Liquid had noble sentiments that simply were misunderstood and thus translated into terrorisms

Thanks!
I NEED that intro mix with the konami jingle and the audioclips
You sir deserve a medal.
Thank you for honest work to break down the whole franchise of my favorite game
This is such an incredible video. It's amazing you can make a 3 hour video and it's interesting the whole way through
This was brilliant, and I had a great time watching this,so thanks for making this video.
Wow this was great! Best summary video I could find. Great work.
Patriots - Illuminati
Double & Triple Agents - 60's were full of them US and Russian.
That was incredible. And without ads? Awesome
You have done a service to mankind by compiling this lol. I played all of these games, most multiple times, and still I didn’t totally put all of this together. Amazing video!!
Knowing Venom was the Big Boss in MG1 makes a lot of things add up actually.
The greatest video on UA-cam. Hats off 👍
54:43 Who else wasn't surprised that it's Volgin?
He's literally wearing the same outfit, for crying out loud!
Kojima overuses the whole double or even triple agent thing too much, but his stories are fun.
Ur mom
Eh...
In the world of espionage that's really what it's like though, so it's accurate
Dude stop I almost cried at the end. That sound always gives me chills.
Thank you so much dude. Only 1 ad which is at the very end is too generous. Not to mention the countless hours put into this video. Thanks again
It's my sleepover and I get to pick the movie
This was Incredible! Thank you for taking the time to make this video!
I wish MGS was turned into a Novella.
Every guy I know that loves this series has also tried explaining the whole thing to me. Now I get it.
Holy shit dude. Amazing. Easily the best video game story.
WHAT A RIDE. Never played single mgs game but i enjoyed it all thoroughly... the action, twists and the ridiculousness.
Great video! Found it from the guy who fell asleep while this came on through autoplay and he learned MGS Lore while unconscious.
@@INGENSVIRILITAS link, please 🙏
Wow. All the feels coming back. Thank you for doing this.
I remember the "Dudu" melody so well...still Puts a Smile in my face anytime i hear this ❤ i Hope they Remake all of the old MGS even the two First MG Games
BE CAREFUL WHAT U WISH FOR!!!!!
I somehow still think that 3 hours is not enough for the entire lore lmao... Amazing work, loved it
This man deserves far more than 14,00 views and 600 likes for going through this much effort!
He literally just stole all of gaming bolts videos recaping the series story and put them all together in order, all he did to alter the videos was remove their intro and outro
@@kince7629 the only good thing about this video is that all the GB videos are in a single video.
The S3 program sounds an awful lot like The Great Reset plan by the World Economic Forum.
epic video good job loved the music at the end nice touch
I never knew the games were our of order. The fact that the Metal Gears for Nintendo came out yeats before Playstion and the insuing games were prequels and sequels is just mind blowing and genius. My favorite game series ever!
@@KahosSaint I actually have been playing the MSX versions that came with the HD MGS 2 and MGS3. I assumed they were nintendo..rookie mistake lol. They're canon right? Cause Snake mentions Gray Fox and Zanzibar in MGS for the PS1
@@KahosSaint I've now played all the metal gears except PeaceWalker. That's next on my quest
Big respect for doing this
I almost cry at the end of the video... way too good recap! This is really awesome.
All this and one add bravo my dude. This ia amazing.
0:18 oh god that music !!!!!!!!!
What a king. You made my workday go by so much faster.
Amazing video. Thank you so much for taking the time to publish this!
Thanks for combining these videos into a single one. I don't like too many separate yet similar videos in my liked video list so this is perfect
My headcanon is that the experiments on Jack were to have him be part of the beauty and the beast team, as he is quite beautiful. He could have takne the place of Grey fox but probably would have been called Ripper Fox or something. They then either
A: Went "nah, the Team is for women"
B:He was broke out before they brought him onto the team
Or C: they realized he was a guy
How much will I be confused if I go through them in chronological order? Never played a single one.
You missed alot in your life
Yea play them in order, you’ll enjoy it.. it’s legendary, I forget the one you have to switch around due to a certain character you find out the truth. It’s epic, man, you’re missing out seriously.
@@MidTierVillain its Metal Gear Solid 2 playing as Solid snake for a little while then the rest of the game playing as the foxhound rookie Raiden
Ezequiel Quiroz Yea! Thanks, man!
@@MidTierVillain your welcome :)
Decades of wars, strife, betrayal, and triple agents over a man's dream.
OnlyGoodSHHH, I got just one thing to say to you. "You're pretty good." Thank you folks...this is a masterpiece.
Glad you enjoyed it!
What a amazing ride we had here fellas, I am no nobody, really appreciated this video. Subscribe and like never gonna paid the experience which u gave. Thanks for the hard work.
Unbelievable video! Masterclass. Thank you so much for making it.
The last moments of the epilogue in Metal Gear Solid 4 made a grown man in myself cry 😢 Big Boss, George Sears, Ocelot, Grey Fox, even Liquid had noble sentiments that simply were misunderstood and thus translated into terrorisms
Mate - greatest video game and espionage story ever. Top job on the video - No stone unturned. ❤
As someone who has only played 5 this is the exact video I was looking for to get caught up on this story
Wtf is that music at the start of the video. So good!
This was exactly what I was looking for. And such a really good job too. Thank you for that.
Perfect quarantine boredom video
This video is excellent, makes me want to replay all of them.
This is fucking amazing. Just, superb. Incredibly well done.
Finally, that one video that I've been searching for...
edit : I wonder how much time you actually put on this. bless you man
Loved watching this again, don't think this kind of game or story will ever happen again.
