I never knew I needed a glue-off until I saw this video. Once again, such helpful content. This is such a lot of work and we really appreciate you doing this for us 😁
Someone just the other day in one of the groups asked about that glue. After today's video I can let them know. When I need another gallon of glue, I think I will get the craftsmart white glue. Thanks for another informative video.
I love videos like this!! It saves me so much time and with being an over thinker, I’m always never starting a project because I’m unsure of whether or not I have everything for it or if the substitute I found online would actually work and taking the chance wasting all the money and products I’ve gotten over a stretched period. These types of videos are so helpful!
I tried the the elmers clear glue a while back and was so unhappy with it ! Same thing happened and I also had the colors blend together as it dried! I gave it away! Love your videos and your honest approach to showing us what works best and why!
I use them both. BUT.. I use the paint skins for projects.. I'm a quilter and have made squares from the skins. So using glue helps the skins more sturdy. You are a super teacher. Thanks
As a fellow math a computer nerd I really appreciate your analytical approach to pouring. I am new to the art and really loving it! I am not big on the cells (or have not gotten to the point of appreciating them yet), could you possibly repeat with no silicone and maybe a tree ring pour...Tysm I truely love your channel and website!
Thank you so much for doing the experiments that answer the questions that I, and many others, have in our heads😮 I hope to find the later experiments you did with the “Elmer’s School glue and the clear glue” as you stated you would be doing, as I’m watching these 3 years later from time of your posting. Thank you as you really help me with my research 🧐
As a beginner I so appreciate this video. I was wondering why Elmers which is the most expensive was considered the best but I’ve learned that’s not necessarily so. Going to try the Michaels brand. Thanks.
Using Mont Marte Clear glue because Gilly Kube uses and it works well but have not used yet with silicone. Love to mix the clear glue as you mentioned. This video was so helpful. I really think that the Craftsmart White Glue beat out Glue All in your use with silicone. Is there a chance you could do a head to head with these two without silicone? Thank you for all you do! Saves us so much time and expense. You are amazing! Daughter is a Chemistry teacher, not a painter, but watches all your videos.
I mixed a Chrome metallic with Elmer's Clear Glue for the first time today, and got a ton of tiny bubbles, as well. I think that is a general issue with the clear glues in acrylic pouring.
I am just editing my video for Saturday morning that addresses this issue specifically Chris. You can also see me have this problem in my video about Mica Pigments here - ua-cam.com/video/FvkyuAQqoZo/v-deo.html
You can try clear glue, just make it thicker or don't use silicone when it is thin Debra. However, with the pricing Glue-All is so close there isn't a lot going for clear glue other than experimentation.
Aloha ....Statted pouring during Covid.. . I am hooked You are an aweome instructer have learned so much from you . . especially the pouring mediems tests. Cells are what I have been trying to acheive going to try the one without silcone now
You're very welcome. My recommendation is always to pick one simple technique. Get really good at it. Than move on to the next. You'll find you have more success and you start learning new techniques much faster.
I wonder if the silicone acts differently with the clear glue and that's why the swipes didn't work. I don't use silicone myself - I've lots of animals that get into stuff and chew and no room yet to isolate for pouring - so seeing the school glue do so well was awesome for me! Also I thought all the paintings were good despite the purpose of testing. A lot of the pouring I do is just water based with various thicknesses and different paint types (just started using satin and metallics). Out of all the pours I've done (And I am a beginner/newb, only 2 months or so doing this) I have one that I think turned out amazing. Anyway, THANK YOU FOR THIS; this helped me a lot for future projects!
Just picked up the Michaels white glue because I seen another video about using Elmer's and water as medium but I was iffy about my purchase because I wasn't sure how well the Michaels glue would work. So thank God I came across this video because it just made me really happy to know I made a good purchase. Thank you!
Fantastic lesson on glue , I used the today and my picture came out perfect, but I did have trouble with my pink paint too ? But in the end it looked ok thanks for you tips 😊
I'm so glad you did this... I've been wondering which was better. I don't have many places nearby that sell art supplies so I have to make do with what I can find.
Love these informative videos! Thank you for testing all these things. I’m just starting and thought I knew what to buy, but now I’m second guessing 🤣. Maybe you could do a “newest/improved” starter kit for us newbies.
Some of those came out pretty dang good. Glue is a lot more cost-effective than pouring mediums too. The question in my mind now is how do the quality of the results differ from glue pouring methods vs the more "professional" pouring mediums sold.
You went to an incredible amount of work to do this. Wow! Thank you. These are interesting results. When mixing craft paint with floetrol, trying to to get it thick enough to use, I added glue all which really helped.
With craft don't use more than 1 part medium (either Floetrol or Glue or combined) to 1 part paint. Craft paint just doesn't have the depth of color (pigment load) to allow diluting too much.
Lol! I've done the same with glues. Looked at floetrol ingredients, it's abbreviated as MIT/CIT. Amazingly some builders PVA is exactly the same (& much cheaper than Elmers etc. Goes much further.) Just needs lots of dilution with distilled water which I warm to mix quicker. I've added drops of polypropylene glycol to some of my pouring medium for flow enhancement & cells ( really cheap liquid used for home made vaping liquids, not like silicone, doesn't need cleaning before varnishing) love experimenting! Great video!
I have tried the builders glue but my black and white one started to yellow so i have to be careful what colors I use it with. I haven't used it since but I might need to do some tests like you did. Just reading up on the polypropylene glycol and my mind is blown 🤯🤯🤯
I'm really surprised about the school glue without silicon result. That was a happy accident! I thought, judging by the sliminess, that it would be a big mess. This was a helpful comparison. Thank you!
Thank you for your experiment. It was educational. I have used the Create basics white craft glue from Walmart with great success. I mixed it with Michael's Artist Loft basic level flow acrylic paint & a little bit of water. I did use silicone in one mixture & none in others. I was surprised & pleased by the final dried results of both. The colors remained vivid & I did get some cells & lacing with the silicone mixture.
I am just starting out and am watching you almost all day lol.... Great tips I just hope I can get the right products in South Africa. So keen to get starting. Got the paint but need the glue / pouring medium. Thanks again
Really enjoy your experiments and comments since I'm so right brained. Your thinking is way different than mine and you look at things in a way different light that I can appreciate. I've learned a tremendous amount from you and tell all my friends about your work. Also enjoyed watching the 7 guys collab. on Saturday. Thanks again. I'll be watching you.
I have to say I like the crafts smart glue test best. I just got some elmers glue all and I’m excited to try it out but I think I’ll buy the craft smart next time.
Depends on what look you are going for Kristi. Elmer's will give more solid lines. Craftsmart will give more color mixing and softens the colors a bit more then GA. Both are great.
I love your videos and greatly appreciate your efforts to make pouring easier. I currently live in Germany and use a combination of Artist Junior 2-in-1 glue/pouring medium with pebeo pouring medium and it works great!
Accidental asmr is win. Thanks for your videos! I recently stumbled across your channel while learning about mica powders and I've learned loads already.

SO informative…thx. Have you done any pour offs without trying for a lot of cells? It seems like everyone is trying for more and more. Wondering if just not adding silicone is enough. A few would be fine. I’m binge watching to learn all I can before I start. 😊
One thing you need to know about Glue All, ( I learn this that in the large containers, they can turn into a yellow stian on your art work after awhile.
It definitely has a tendency to yellow. Especially if left in the direct sunlight. That's why I used it as a practice medium or when you are just starting out.
I'd be really interested in whether leaving out the silicone makes a difference in these experiments with different glues. Intriguing. Thanks again for another experiment! Your channel is my go-to when I have questions about stuff :)
Every time I have a question about pouring and/or ingredients, your page is the first one I go to. Thanks for all your work. I'm sure it takes hours and hours!@@LeftBrainedArtist
WOW, DAVID, YOUR TIPS ARE WONDERFUL, EVEN THOUGH THOSE GLUES ARE NOT AVAILABLE HERE IN MEXICO CITY. I'LL TRY THE ONLY ONE I KNOW. ANYWAY, 🙏🙏🙏 THANK YOU, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HELP. GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS FROM 🇲🇽.
I used tacky glue just because that's all I had. I mixed a little water until a thin pancake consistency. I poured the tacky glue and water mixture in the center of my small wood piece. Then I dropped several color drops of acrylic paint around the earring and on top of glue mixture. I got a toothpick and very slightly moved the toothpick thru the paint and glue mixture, making designs, then let it dry overnight. The next day, in very small places the mixture drew up in very small places, making designs, exposing very small areas of the wood. But gos, it looked cool. This wasn't a typical paint pour but looked great on my wood earrings.
Gilly Kube in Australia uses the clear glue. I see how you tested them in pours, let them sit around for abmonth or two and see how they lasted. Did they yellow in the sun. Then maybe do a seal test for the.. one half resin the other varnish in a couple weeks. Then after it sits for a month or two show us how they lasted. Thanks the final test, not just the pour. Tha KS so much for this, I always wondered about school glue.
I did a test with glue that sat in my windowsill for a year. No yellowing or anything and that was without any varnish also. I do play on doing some testing like you say but it will be a while before we get the results. 8)
Thankyou for putting the time and effort in. Your videos are very helpful. I came from the glue bloom art vid to this, excited to try Elmer's glue all with the technique 😊
I love these videos-testing results so I don’t have to is awesome-also explains some of my results -some not so good Thank you for this research-just found you and will follow you for more
Thank you for the experiment. I prefer the one done with the Craftsmart white glue. I have watched some pourers use bookbinding glue with success in pours and blooms. Have you ever tried bookbinding glue?
I'm getting into this and you got my sub :) not a lot of tech help or overviews. Thank you! Just going all out and getting things for prefects down the road. UV and high end paits. Goin to practice a lot with the cheaper stuff. I have great dexterity in my left and right and I like developing things - super excited. Looking to drop around 400-600 as I feel like that will allow me to do all kinds of stuff down the road. I'll try to come back and click one of your links before buying it all.
Liked the video but my Question is I watched a video earlier that showed U empty the pain out in a cup then poured the glue in the paint bottle then added them together what was the name of video I’d like to watch it again it was so helpful. Thanks Terri
Book binding glue is archival and all of the elmers glue types are not. That is my problem with Elmers. Also I don’t care for the mix of it when comparing it to a medium. I like Michael’s gloss medium. It’s smooth creamy and it has a sheen to it even once the canvas or whatever substrate used is dry. That’s a big ol plus to me! I’ve also used Blicks Gloss gel Medium and goldens heavy gloss gel. Both are quite nice. But Heavy means Heavy it’s quite viscous so altering your mix is required, the ratio of floetrol or water used once your paint is added will be more than one is used to using. I find I prefer using the gels as an emulsifier or binder (as they are 99%) when using deco art or craft paints (thin paints). Thanks for all your tests and trials. I like your scientific approach to it all!❤️
Thanks Lisa. I'll keep that in mind. I do always recommend a very good finish/varnish if you use glue and not to expect the painting to last for more than a few decades unless it is really babied.
WOW, DAVID, THE VIDEO IS REALLY HELPFUL, WE HAVE DIFFERENT TRADE MARKS IN MEXICO BUT ANYWAY, IT'S A MATTER OF TEASTE WHAT WE HAVE AND TAKE NOTES. YOU ARE REALLY NICE AND KIND, THANK YOU,THANK YOU, THANK YOU 🙏🙏🙏. GREETINGS AND BLESSINGS FROM 🇲🇩.
Silicone is way overused by most people. I recommend no more than 1 drop per 2 ounces or 60g of mixed paint. Otherwise your cells just run in to each other and become a big mess.
I have the BeYou All Purpose Clear Glue from hobby lobby in store where I live….Let you know after and when I can get around to start pour painting..Or if you can you can test it for all us?
I never knew I needed a glue-off until I saw this video. Once again, such helpful content. This is such a lot of work and we really appreciate you doing this for us 😁
No problem at all. Hopefully we can all find that "perfect mixture" and make sure there is some unique hand made artwork in every home.

Every time I have a question about pouring and/or ingredients, your page is the first one I go to. Thanks for all your work. I'm sure it takes hours and hours!@@LeftBrainedArtist
Thanks for testing David, I am shocked that the swipes from the clear glue disappears!
You and me both! Going to try again with no silicone.
Let me know what ends up working for you. I am trying to put an international list of ingredients together.
That is a very interesting way to do it. Kind of like watercolor and acrylic pouring together.
I needed this. Thanks for lesson!
You are so welcome!
Thanks so much for this. Big word of caution, don't use wood glues...they seize up the moment you add paint!
Oh yeah, I've had bad experiences with those also. The dust they use in them does not like acrylic paint for sure Emily.
I enjoyed your video. It was very informative..
So glad Shirley. Don't hesitate to ask questions.
Thankyou for putting the time and effort in. Your videos are very helpful. I came from the glue bloom art vid to this, excited to try Elmer's glue all with the technique 😊
Wonderful Ash. I hope it helps.
Thank you very helpful information and love the whit craft glue
You are so welcome Sharon. I need to do some more testing with that for sure.
Keep up the good work.. I'm learning a lot..
Thanks, will do Patricia.
I love these videos-testing results so I don’t have to is awesome-also explains some of my results -some not so good Thank you for this research-just found you and will follow you for more
Thank you Selma. Glad to help.
Thanks so much for the experiment. Great. Thanks.
Glad you liked it Ellen. More to come for sure.
Very informative thank you for all you do ❤❤❤❤
You are so welcome Danna. Let us know if you find some of your own tips for glue.
Thank you for the experiment. I prefer the one done with the Craftsmart white glue. I have watched some pourers use bookbinding glue with success in pours and blooms. Have you ever tried bookbinding glue?
I haven't because of the cost and because it is more difficult to find. It is a better medium for painting longevity.
Thanks my friend. Pouring is pretty awesome if I do say so myself.
Liked the video but my Question is I watched a video earlier that showed U empty the pain out in a cup then poured the glue in the paint bottle then added them together what was the name of video I’d like to watch it again it was so helpful. Thanks Terri
Not sure which video you are referencing unfortunately. Sorry Tj.
Gracias por verlo Oguis. Dime lo que usa en Mexico.
Thank you, very much helpful and informative..
You are welcome! Glad to help.
Thanks for the heads up...great works...does it really matter how many drops you put into your paint(s)...what happens... CHRIS 😎
I haven't found a white glue that didn't work. They are just all slightly different in the effects and how well they hold consistency.
Craft Smart white glue gets my vote for cells. Much better than the Elmer Glue-All.
I have a gallon now so I can do SO much more testing Agnes.
