  • Quick and easy walkthrough on how to acrylic pour with glue. Besides paint, pouring mediums are the the most expensive part of paint pouring. By doing your acrylic pours with Elmer's Glue-All, you can save money and still create some pretty amazing artwork. It doesn't hurt that you can find glue for a lot less then professional pouring mediums and it's available in places like Lowe's, Home Depot, Walmart, and your local craft stores.
    We do not recommend you use clear glue or school glue as they have much less binder and are made to more easily clean up with water. Even adding a little water to those glues make them breakdown and become unusable for paint pouring. Do your acrylic paint pouring with a PVA glue or white glue like Elmer's Glue-All.
    In this video I will walk through the steps to mixing your glue-based pouring medium. We mix 5 different colors of paint and use them for to pour a flip cup, a flip cup with silicone, and an straight pour. You'll want to see the amazing caterpillar cells I created and to see how vibrant my new Arteza Acrylic paints turned out.

      It’s becoming a trend to not like the truth, sadly. The truth is that some people are making a killing off of repackaging pouting mediums into a $50 small bottle vs an extra large $15 bottle. I REALLY appreciate those people that have experimented and are sharing the truth!! THANK YOU!!!

      LeftBrainedArtist how come in your other video you said a 4 to 1 ratio for glue pouring medium but in this one you said 2 to 1?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  3 роки тому +6

      So this is because of the paints I used. Arteza paints are really highly pigmented in my experience so I use a higher pouring medium to paint ratio. Saves me money by not overusing paints too as an added bonus. Many other student quality paints I only use a 2:1 ratio. I know the "it depends" answer isn't the best for new artists but the paint quality and pigment really make a big difference on outcomes.

    Thank you for your tutorials. I'm completely blind, and you have no idea how hard it is to find people who talk through all the steps without just sort of meandering off into commenting on how pleased/annoyed/whaatever-else, instead of continuing to talk through the process. Super helpful, and excited to watch more of your stuff. :)

      That is a great point. I used to work for a blind center and they taught me so much and how to be more detailed in my speaking and more respectful of how I speak. They did more for me than I did for the agency. It was a lovely place to work. I had a great mentor who was blind and he was so patient with me. Many instructional videos only play music, which is frustrating. UA-cam should make it mandatory to make videos accessible to the Blind and the Deaf also. I agree!

    I am bingeing on your website blog and videos. I want to acknowledge firstly that your artwork is just wonderful, delightful! But more important to me is how you teach. You seem to anticipate my every question and walk us through each and every nuance of what you are doing and that is so kind and helpful. And just as much I love that you are not "on stage" being cute, funny, or calling attention to yourself, you are a natural born teacher and artist. Thank you SO much for your tutelage and teach style and inspiring art, and also quick response to my question. Do you have anywhere in your classes how to pour on other bases, like glass or metal or plastic?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  4 роки тому +2

      I don't have those yet but they are on my content list. My next set of courses is comparing and contrasting the popular pouring mediums. I would most likely look at pouring on Glass next as I get a lot of questions about that. Thanks for the suggestions and your kind words. My mother was a school teacher for many years so I am going to blame my teaching style on that. 😀

    Thank you so much for the recipe for use with craft glue! I'm just starting out so I don't want to spend a lot of $. I got craft paint and cheap white glue which may contain more water. I'll have to check in that but it definitely isn't as opaque as elmer's glue. I may have to adjust recipe to account for that water. While searching for cheap alternatives I saw something that said you can get cells using glue and water but it doesn't look that way here. I'll just experiment. I have subscribed so looking forward to watching more! Thanks again!

      Glue isn't the best cell former. However, it is a great lacing maker with the right colors/consistency. Lacing comes from a a swipe when you force the one paint over the other (swipe, dutch, etc.). You can add a little Floetrol to give some small cells.

    That glue was my first kind of pouring medium, but I started mixing it with glazing medium, and found that I really liked how that behaved. I found that the glaze took sooooo long to dry, though. And I see that you have an episode about disappearing painting! My daughter made me a painting on a black canvas, and the pouring medium I mixed up for her was glaze and Glue All, so it was a pretty, soft pink and white blooming painting. The next day I was looking for it, her painting was missing! Everyone else had theirs, but not Chrystal. There was a stunning galactic black and pink nebula that no one claimed. It took us a good hour before we realized that was hers! I proudly have that piece hanging in my living room. 😊

      LeftBrainedArtist i do have several questions about the weight of paints, and I am assuming you have a video about that. I will find it very useful to me.
      Namely, I have questions like what exactly a cell activator is, is the weight of a paint related to the “Phalo”, “cadmium”, “titanium” in the pigment? I have no idea how to word that question. Lol, I will watch more experiments in the morning, I am sure you have already explained that.

    Is it possible to premix your glue and water into a large container and store it that way? Also can you mix your paint and glue mix together into squeeze bottles the way I do with floetrol?

    • @LeftBrainedArtist
      @LeftBrainedArtist  3 роки тому

      Absolutely on both accounts. I take my leftover gallon container, mix 70% glue and 30% water and use that as my base pouring medium. That way I have the whole gallon pre-made.
      Glue will keep for weeks if not months in a sealed squeeze bottle. Just make sure you are mixing it a little every time you use it because it does tend to separate after a few days (the water rises and the polymers sink).

      Elmer's Glue by itself over years will yellow slightly. Used with acrylic paint that effect isn't near as noticeable but it does happen. I consider my glue painting's shelf life in the multiple decades or more especially after putting on a good varnish/finish.
