Your tutorial for doing cells in pour, your tutorials are 100% better than all the others I have seen on utube. I am your fan from now on, thanks so much. I am in UK.
Yes finally a video that is instruction on how to get cells. It drives me crazy not getting cells I hate them I hate the paints and it's a big mess for nothing .thank you
Don't feel that a painting without cells is a failure or a waste of paint, think of it as a base layer for another attempt at a pour or even as a background for an acrylic painting, a landscape or a floral, or abstract, etc. I have repainted over many canvases that did not come out as I had hoped but then became good paintings because I repurposed them
Omgoodness! You are my hero! I couldn't make a cell to save my life, now I make so many.. no big ones yet, but that's next... Thank you so much... Your amazing!
By far the BEST video that explains so well the process of creating silicone cells . So many videos out there pretending they offer knowledge and good explanation for creating cells but instead they only trying to attract ppl with the title. Thank you so much for making this video for us. Plsssss do more :) All the best and much success with your work! ❤
I was going to agree with others, but decided to make this more prominent. You do a fantastic job in explaining WHY to do things! I really appreciate that! You explain what will happen if you do x, y, or z. As an engineer, I love how you experiment and break down what you’ve learned!!! I have watched hundreds of videos over the last three months, and I have enjoyed them, but I have learned MORE from your videos than anyone else’s videos. Your videos about how the thickness of paint affects the final outcome…how the amount of paint per layer affects the outcome…the opacity of the paint and how to layer them so the translucent paint is not muddied…the amount of paint to use by area…and this video on how to get the cells you want using silicone….I could go on and on! I have to admit, I am still trying to learn the blowdryer technique! I have watched your video a few times, and it has really helped me understand what angles will do what to the paint!!! My issue there is STILL viscosity! But I will get there. 🙃 You are a natural born teacher, my friend! I am SO glad UA-cam directed me to your channel!!! I sincerely thank you!!!
Thank you so much for the detailed reply and the nice comment. I blame any teaching knowledge that has rubbed off on my on my mother (English teacher for 20 years).
Thank you so much for making this video. I finally had a go at my first acrylic pour and I had patches of plain canvas and for the life of me I didn’t know why. I thought there’s no way anyone would tell me why that happened. Well who would of thought - I went to one of my favourite acrylic pour teacher and you went and told me why that happened. You are truly amazing, you even explained the difference between a heat gun and torch. Thank you again.
Of all the videos I have watched on acrylic pour you are the best teacher by far. None you have taught me so much that it has helped me greatly and save me money. Keep up the good work. I am following you.
I just wanted to thank you so much, you are the very first and only video I have found after looking at so many to explain and show precisely what to do with silicone in acrylics and how it works, a lot of videos say that’s what they have in there paint… great but how much and how to… so personally I think your video is perfect for this so thanks very much 🌻
I love how you make it into a science! As a beginner, so far, you've helped me with consistency, cells, not wasting paint, understanding silicone and so much more. Can't wait to catch up on all your videos! Thank you so much!!
Thank you Your advice, tips, options are great, keep them coming ! one clip you were talking about the consistency of the paint, what struck with me was when checking the thin or thickness, when it hits the paint in cup there’s a little mound that should level , if too thin there will be no sight of a mound. And so on 💡💡those little observations and descriptions are very helpful b
I find your analytical approach very, very helpful indeed. Thank you, and all the all wonderfully different artists who make videos to share - the artistic, the soulful, the teachers, the product trialers, the experimenters, and those who showcase their enjoyment of this great arty pursuit.
Thank you so much for your tutorial video. You are the only one who gave direct and precise instructions. I've been trying for months and failing. after watching your videos, I made my first piece today with CELLS. Cannot thank you enough! subscribed.
Thank you so much for this very descriptive and instructive video about how to use silicon, and how it works. For us beginners, this is so helpful! Awesome.
WONDERFUL explanation of silicone oil! This is a huge help because my paints are also thick. I just did my "first" pour and I obviously didn't get the silicone right. They still turned out beautiful, but my paint was still too thick because it wouldn't blow with a blowdryer. Honestly, this is harder than it looks. It's not just a matter of mixing paint with pouring medium until it's thin enough and then adding silicone. Still learning.
In this video you covered the areas, adding silicone, how much and paint consistency that was my focus for today. Thank you so much for your willingness to teach us and share your knowledge.
You are an incredible teacher! Please keep making them! I tried watching other videos but never knew how to mix the paint and the medium. I believe I've been adding way too much water to stretch the color. I'm excited now! Thank you so much for being so descriptive!
Thank you for explaining this so beautifully... What I understand from your explanation is that the Rayleigh-Taylor instability theory is causing the cells to form. Same as explained by you.
Your explanation for cells is the best! Also I appreciate your honesty that your cells are not always perfect like others out there. I'm a subscriber now😀
Thanks for another informative video! What gets me is how unpredictable pours are. You got a completely different mix of colors from one cup to the other!
Thank you for explaining how the silicone works and about paint surface tension, I never knew. Your videos are so useful and informative. I'm new to art and struggling to get cells in my pours, but now I understand why (too thick or thin paint with little or too much silicone!!). 👍
Thanks again David, for your helpful blend of art & science! Personally, I like the effects I get with silicone, much better, than when I don't use it at all. Very cool that you painted on your base coat beforehand. I will try doing that myself !
Your presentation is so very helpful. I love understanding the whys behind the "action" of paint, silicone and heat (and tilt!). Thank you for this - very helpful.
Thank you David! Brand new to pouring! Really brand new and haven't even poured my first! I love watching your videos and I'm accumulating so much knowledge from you! Thank you. A great little chart summary. I snapped a pic for my phone, along with the measurement charts. Your art here has exactly the cell type and lacing I love...going to try your suggestion here today. So frustrating when you get it perfectly in one, then the next is a bomb. Process :)
Hello David. Thanks for tutorial! I’ve found that by adding maybe 1/2oz of titanium white if doing say an 8oz (flip cup) pour, helps a lot w/ cell Structure. I believe it is, as you know, due to the fact that titanium White is a heavier paint. So even if you’re thinking well I wasn’t going to include white in the painting that small amount doesn’t overpower the painting but it does help with cells.
Interesting. I'll have to try that. Most of the lighter colors had white here. It was just a bit too thick and I didn't take in to account the summer heat even though I have air conditioning.
Just read this comment after leaving my comment above about not wanting to torch if I don’t have to...and I realized even though I have prepped and painted my canvas prior to pouring, I haven’t left it wet (poured titanium white)...and I think I am going to try that first next time, to see if that helps create more cells. Thanks!
@@wholewellnesswithann Hi. Well I don’t actually usually do anything to prep or paint my canvas prior to pouring. What I was referring to was if you’re doing a flip cup or a dirty pour to add in a few layers of titanium white maybe a half an ounce total. The titanium white falls down through the other colors creating cells and lacing too!
@@wholewellnesswithann Yes that is what I typically do. And I’m not talking about as much paint of the other colors that you’ve chosen I’m talking about a half oz total in an 8oz pour. Maybe spilt that 1/2 oz in 2. So put 1st 2 colors in, then 1/4oz titanium, another color or two, then the other 1/4oz. And that’s it. I’d say three out of four of my flip cups yielded happy results. And so maybe if you added that along with the recommendations David is giving, you will have double success!
I find you extremely helpful with acrylic pours and very relaxing, so I am watching all of your videos and am atarting a list, my next two questions are: 1)what are other reasons (if any) to use a torch? 2) Which is better a torch or a hair dryer?
Torches and heat guns are used to break the surface tension and allow cells to form easier. That is really the only reason to use heat on your pour. Using a torch and using a hair dryer are used for complete different things. The torch heats up the surface as I mentioned above. The blow dryer moves the paint around (I alwasy recommend using a blow drying on cold or warm and not hot).
Thank you so much for this! I love that lavender toned one you showed and have been unsuccessfully trying to achieve it. Now I know that I need to thin out my paint 😚. Much appreciated!! 🇨🇦
Thanks so much for all of your informative videos! You are like a science teacher in an art lab. I have gone from one of your videos to another and forget to click the like button in between. Sorry. But all 10 or so I have watched so far have been so useful. I know I’ve saved a lot of frustration and paint because of your videos and research.
FINALLY!!! I got some good cells in my painting! I was really getting fr medium and I found this video!?! I did it finally! Thank you so very much for your experimentation with the fluid art techniques and how to get the results right! ❤❤❤ 0:42
This video is so informative, Thank you 🙏. In fact you are the only pouring artist on UA-cam who takes the time to explain what you’re doing without hiding the most important information about AP. That’s why I always come to your channel or website when I want to learn something about acrylic pouring, because 90% of the other channels seek only self promotion. Thanks again for being honest and willing to share your knowledge with us 👏. On a side note, I experimented with Grumbacher acrylic paint yesterday and found out that no matter what consistency, no matter what color, no matter what you use as a PM, it won’t make cells period. Not even with silicone! I guess Grumbacher is the way to go if you don’t want cells. Also, I had no problems with muddy colors, which is great. One awesome thing about it is that just a little paint goes a very long way. Have you ever experienced something like that? Sara.
David, You amaze me. You are so full of knowledge. I wish it could be passed by osmosis! I will just keep watching you and become one of your biggest fans! You are loved!!
Thanks for another informative video. Appreciate you doing these for us. I really like the one with the caterpillar cells, beautiful colors. I look forward to the Saturday morning videos. The base coat is a pretty color, and this turned out really awesome.

I actually love love the one with the big cells.
Thanks Gisele. Isn't art so interesting how we can all appreciate different things?
Thank you so much for this! I love that lavender toned one you showed and have been unsuccessfully trying to achieve it. Now I know that I need to thin out my paint 😚. Much appreciated!! 🇨🇦
So glad to help Michelle. Let me know how it goes!
That is awesome! This is exactly what I love to hear and why I create these videos. Thanks Lana.
FINALLY!!! I got some good cells in my painting! I was really getting fr medium and I found this video!?! I did it finally! Thank you so very much for your experimentation with the fluid art techniques and how to get the results right! ❤❤❤

Glad I could help!
Thank you, really learned a lot from this video. Cheers!
Very welcome!
I've been doing pours for over 6 years and never had any problems with Silicone but I always use floetrol so that might be why
Any tricks you might want to share?
I haven’t played with silicone yet, snd you’re giving me so many good tips of things to avoid!
Great video!!
Thanks Annie. Sometimes you just need a starting point and a caution to really get things going on the right track.
@@LeftBrainedArtist I get nervous sometimes trying this stuff, so you’ve got me very excited to expand my art ❤️
I subscribed to your channel. I'll have mine up in a few months. I like your art.

You're the best for watching Sherryl. Happy pouring!
Thank for this video, you explain super well.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you, I have learned so much from your videos!
You are so welcome Nicole. Glad to help.
Sara.
I haven't experimented with GB but I apparently need to. Having a go to no cell maker would be awesome.
Thanks for all the info & explanations LBA!
Any time!
Thank you for your videos. I love how well you explain everything. I am learning a lot from you. Will be ready to pour after the holidays!

Thanks for another informative video. Appreciate you doing these for us.
I really like the one with the caterpillar cells, beautiful colors. I look forward to the Saturday morning videos.
The base coat is a pretty color, and this turned out really awesome.
I wish the cells were a bit bigger but I didn't account for the heat here so it dried up as I was tilting more than I wanted. Every painting you learn more, even years after starting.
Love how you explain everything. Very helpful, thank you.
