Dear Garrick, please help me. I am from South Africa in Mpumalanga these stuff you not get in South Africa. If I go to the hardware shops or arts shops they don't know what I talk about. What products can I used that they sell here in South Africa. Please I need your advice
@sharonkuhn8896 I'm not very familiar with products in South Africa. My first guess would be to find a white school glue sold there and try using as a pouring medium. As far as house paints trial and error will be your best bet. I'll look and see if I know any artist there who may be able to advice better.
The glue was a bit of a shock honestly. I appreciate the correct ratio of the water and paint too because when I tried it I added too much water so this helps. I honestly just straight up can't afford Aussie floetrol no matter how pretty it is, so I'm excited to see that there are other options provided you have the right ratios. I don't do many blooms because the cell activator recipes I've tried before don't really work all that well for me so this is super encouraging. Thank you!!
For your ratio don't think measuring think consistency... you want all your pouring paint to be like warm honey off the stick as u mix... paint all has different weights due to pigments .. so hardly any 2 is the same to where u could really use a repeat measuring... u just wanna get a feel for the way it feels as u stir and pour off .. I honestly start with about half and half paint to flo. Or glue.. and the adjust as needed.. if to thin add paint.. to thick a Lil water... and I mean little like table spoon to start... and just get it like honey..move on to next color and do the same... hope this helps!
@@jenniferdennison8315 I was about to say the same thing! Every single brand of paint I have used has had a different consistency and I have never been able to use the same measurements for all paints.
The tiny touches that you add to your paintings make such a wonderful difference. Darkening the corners, the little blades of grass add so much. Thank you for showing me this, you are a wonderful artist.
One of the reasons you continue to get sells is because you're using titanium White. And also if you were to torch your art and bust the bubbles you would also come up with more lacing and cells as well. But it's actually the titanium white that's giving you cells
I will be testing this soon. Torching does bring up bubbles but it doesn't always produced the desired effect of cells so its not something I rely to teach newer artist because it will just be confusing. Thanks for chiming in. ❤️
Amsterdam Titanium White and Amsterdam Lamp Black are very “heavy” colours physically and mixed 1:1 with water usually give cells . You’d get cells without torching anyways , just stand back and wait a couple of minutes or just blow on them gently with a straw - you’ll get cells .
@@robertkat - Aussie Floetrol is developed for use with acrylic paints whereas US Floetrol is designed to be used with latex based paints . That’s why you get cells with the Aussie version . There’s nothing I can find in the ingredients that indicates any oil in Aussie Floetrol 🤷♀️. All oils are too heavy and end up having to be washed out of your painting if you use them to make cells - you don’t need to wash Aussie Floetrol out of a canvas or off a tile so you can varnish it or cover it in resin ?

Excellent testing Garrick! I’m surprised with the glue and paint as my recipe has that and wood conditioner. It worked beautifully without it. Going to try that without for sure! I recently splurged on a small bottle of Aussie and expected to be wowed. But there are such good recipes out there like yours, it’s not a necessary buy. Fabulous as always my friend❤.

I just found your site. Love it. I have been wanting to try this but the cost has been preventing me. I think the water or glue samples were just as good if not better than the expensive products! Thanks so much for your time to do this. 😊
This is super helpful! Especially for people like me who can't even buy Australian (or even American) Floetrol where they live. I've used Owatrol's Aussie-trol as a cell activator, and although you get lacing with it, I don't really like it that much. Now I'm excited to try some other recipes :)
Don't just use whatever for your pour art if you are going to gift or sell your art anywhere. Adding whatever will change light-fastness and how it looks over time. But damn! These are great alts. These are so pretty! Thank you for doing this video. So glad I found your channel.
This was great. I have seen a lot of videos of people arguing one activator over another, but not actually doing the comparisons. This was really informative. Thans the the content ♡
I just happened across this video on tv and ran over here to subscribe. I’ve been watching this technique from people for about a week and yours is the first I’ve seen the details different mixing solutions to show what they do. Thank you so much for this! I had been thinking about whether water would have this effect, but I didn’t want to waste paint to try it. 😂 you’re my new fave. 💕
They all have cool looks (I agree about the Owatrol being a little thick). I was surprised you got such good results without the AUS Floetrol. Great experiment!!
Thank you thank you so very much for all of your insightful and inspiring information. I'm not a trained artist, but I do love trying different styles of painting art. You're awesome. Thank you I'll be following you from now on. Namaste 🤲🏽🙏🏽🤲🏽
Great job, thank you for putting the work in! I’m amazed for sure. Been torn about buying Aussie floetrol, but now going for glue all. I’ve been thinking about giving it a try anyway. I’ve only used floetrol, because it was easier and close to same price as American floetrol (prices are raising now. I recently bough M1 floetrol, it’s clear and more liquid, but seems to thicken with paint.
I decided to seek out your cell activator video and do some testing with your recipes. Thank you so much for sharing, should be fun in the morning! 😂😂 Have a great day ❤❤
You are truly AMAZING! You remind me of an Artist that I have been watching for years and that is Tammy Anderson. She explains everything in great detail like you do! I was doing paintings back in 2015 and got out of it for a variety of reason. I can't thank you enough for all that you do. You make it easy to follow and you explain things in great detail. The only question I have and I get really anxious about it is what paint are you using for your base paint? I see so many using this or that and I have so many different paints sitting around here. All I want is one simple house paint to use or a mixture that I can make up and keep it on hand and know what I am using it for. Please help.
Awww thanks for the love. I use house paint straight from the can PPG MultiPro... however I am working on a new video about house paint and making your own for blooms. 😄
Thank you, thank you, I just spent couple hours trying to get cells., I have floetrol silicone oil, and never tried glue or just water. Thank for these recipes, I am going to try again tonight.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiments with all of us. You mentioned the thickness of the cell activators, it seemed like the ones with thinner consistency provided the better results. Thoughts? Oh, yes I'm going to be experimenting. My Home Depot is 1 mile away... I originally learned the paint:water and did get excellent results. This is super helpful! Especially for people like me who can't even buy Australian (or even American) Floetrol where they live. I've used Owatrol's Aussie-trol as a cell activator, and although you get lacing with it, I don't really like it that much. Now I'm excited to try some other recipes :)
Glad it was helpful! I am experimenting and hoping to have a Part II in a couple weeks with more recipes!!
Thrilled you enjoyed it. Thank you for watching!
Again… you nailed this comparison video! So helpful Garrick ❤ I’m going to have do try and replicate your experiment here. Awesome stuff!
Go for it! I'd love to see your results.
Hi from Australia 🇦🇺. Thank you sooo much for sharing your knowledge. Love your laid back attitude!!
I love the large cells...!!! Beautiful work all around!!! Outstanding...!!!😎❤️🕊💕

Loved this experiment and am SHOCKED by the results! Those look gorgeous! So glad to have found your channel! Thank you for sharing. ❤
They all have cool looks (I agree about the Owatrol being a little thick). I was surprised you got such good results without the AUS Floetrol. Great experiment!!
I have asking a long time for someone to show how to mix & how you get Cells. Thank you for your time* answering so many questions. Your Awesome
Thrilled it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
My favorites are 1 and 5. Aussie is still my top selection.
You can't beat the Aussie but the others are really close!!
#3: the Elmer’s glue. I can’t wait to try it for myself. Thanks for the comparison of these products.
I cannot wait to see what you create.

I couldn’t pick just one. I love them all!!!

Incredible!!! Thank you. I’d like to see a polycrilic cell activator recipe
Thank you, Garrick. I think glue and Aussie are pretty darn close. Loved this video. Have to run.. making French Dip Sandwiches for dinner!😂
Sounds great! Thanks for stopping in friend.
👏👏👏
Thanks!!
Interesting experiments!!
Thank you! Cheers!
You can do it! I'd love to hear about your results. Thanks again!!!
Love your videos! This one was awesome! All beautiful!

Awww I appreciate you!!! So glad it was helpful.
Forget my question - I found your recent video testing two recipes with swipe. Thanks.
i loved them all. they are all different, but all lovely
Thanks for watching!!
Beautiful!
Thank you!
Thank you for doing this! I just want a medium to do one stroke painting so looking for a bit cheaper medium or extender I don't need it to pour.
Lol the slow-mo on the liquid gold mix 😂 ❤
Ayyyeee thanks. Editing is a labor of love but comments like these make it worth it haha.
@@GarrickBrownArtStudio was a really fun detail 😁
Super useful video! Great job!
Thank you, thank you, I just spent couple hours trying to get cells., I have floetrol silicone oil, and never tried glue or just water. Thank for these recipes, I am going to try again tonight.
Ohhh!! Can't wait to hear about your results.
Seriously helpful thank you! About to try my first attempts at pouring and I so badly want cells :)
This was a wonderful video to come upon, ive lrarn d so much. I had just bought an equilvalent to Flowtrol because its not carried near me. thank you for sharing your knowledge with me ❤️❤️ Ive learned so much ❤❤❤
You are so welcome! How did the alternative work for you?
Thank for this - very informative and beautiful done
Thank you so much for sharing your experiments with all of us. You mentioned the thickness of the cell activators, it seemed like the ones with thinner consistency provided the better results. Thoughts? Oh, yes I'm going to be experimenting. My Home Depot is 1 mile away... I originally learned the paint:water and did get excellent results. Anyway, I love your channel, your art, sense of humor, videos, ok total fan girling right now lol 🤩
Aww thanks so much for commenting. Made my day haha. Yeah the thinner consistency did perform better in this test.
Thank you for sharing 🎨
Thanks for watching!
Glue is all i ever use. But u dont want too much. Will crack the paint. Thank you for this tutorial.
I learned mixing techniques today that I didn't even know I needed to know. Thank you. Is there another "blow" technique other than using the mouth?
Thank you for the comparisons dimenstrations! Most helpful 😊
You are so welcome!
Sorry, I just found your video about pillow paints. Thank you xx
