Comparison Of 6 Cell Activator Recipes With Everyday Household Product! 🤯
Вставка
- Опубліковано 13 чер 2024
- CELL ACTIVATORS!! You don't need Australian Floetrol or even American Floetrol. This step by step, acrylic pouring comparison will provide you with 6 different cell activators (listed below) using a number of different products.
Many beginners have questions about "cell activator" like:
What is cell activator?
Can I use silicone oil as cell activator?
Where to buy cell activator...
The term cell activator was made popular by @Sheleeart and the popular bloom technique, however there are a number of different ways to make cells. Individuals and companies have capitalized on this and have created products which adds to the confusion for a beginner. Understand you can make cells with just paint and water because cells are moreso created simply by pouring (or placing) different densities of paint into each other. Science backs this with the Rayleigh-Taylor Instability theory. We use products like australian floetrol, and silicone oil to help us achieve those effects. These simple questions can be hard to answer because they are loaded questions, but once you understand the concept of the cell making process making them becomes a bit less daunting.

Dear Garrick, please help me. I am from South Africa in Mpumalanga these stuff you not get in South Africa. If I go to the hardware shops or arts shops they don't know what I talk about. What products can I used that they sell here in South Africa. Please I need your advice
@sharonkuhn8896 I'm not very familiar with products in South Africa. My first guess would be to find a white school glue sold there and try using as a pouring medium. As far as house paints trial and error will be your best bet. I'll look and see if I know any artist there who may be able to advice better.
The Glue?!? Speechless! I can't even believe it. Keep doing these, dude, you are KILLING. You are answering SO many questions!
I love doing it!!! I'm just so.thrilled it is inspiring others to try and find alternatives and not give up!!
Started with Elmer's glue all n water. Still have it o. Hand!
@@cherylhanney2434 I might be re-upping my supply after this lol
Great experiment again. I would love to see different products for pouring medium and pillow. Hugs my friend 🧡
Awww thanks for coming by Fiona. I got you I am working on this!!!
That is my type of experiment. Well done Garrick!
Thanks for watching bro! Hope you are well.
The glue was a bit of a shock honestly. I appreciate the correct ratio of the water and paint too because when I tried it I added too much water so this helps. I honestly just straight up can't afford Aussie floetrol no matter how pretty it is, so I'm excited to see that there are other options provided you have the right ratios. I don't do many blooms because the cell activator recipes I've tried before don't really work all that well for me so this is super encouraging. Thank you!!
Aw you are more than welcome. Hopefully you can try blooms again with more success. Stay tune for a few more experiments!! Much love. ❤️
For your ratio don't think measuring think consistency... you want all your pouring paint to be like warm honey off the stick as u mix... paint all has different weights due to pigments .. so hardly any 2 is the same to where u could really use a repeat measuring... u just wanna get a feel for the way it feels as u stir and pour off .. I honestly start with about half and half paint to flo. Or glue.. and the adjust as needed.. if to thin add paint.. to thick a Lil water... and I mean little like table spoon to start... and just get it like honey..move on to next color and do the same... hope this helps!
I could barely afford US Floetrol lol. I get it every now and then but I use glue unless I'm doing a big project, something for a customer.
@@jenniferdennison8315 I was about to say the same thing! Every single brand of paint I have used has had a different consistency and I have never been able to use the same measurements for all paints.
THE GLUE, AMAZING AND LOW COST. THANK YOU FOR SHARING
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching.
Today I tried your recipe with PVA ,water and Amsterdam Titanium white and it was a success! I have been practicing blooms for months, and today finally it was the best result ever! Here in UK we can't find australian foeltrol and the results with Aussie-trol where disappointing. Thank you soooooo much, I am over the moon!
Yes!!! I am so glad to hear this. Thanks for sharing and watching my friend!
Great to hear, I'm in UK and just about to try!
So excited every time I see you doing recipes . You are very kind to help us with this crazy task!
Super thrilled they are helpful! I have at least 2 more in the arsenal coming soon.
Wow the results are mind blowing ! The water and paint only ! Dang !! 💕💕🐣
Ami thanks for watching friend. Aren't the results crazy?

Garrick, Thank you for this wonderful experiment. You saved the rest of us a lot of time. Also, You have a really great way about you that makes all your videos enjoyable to watch. 🙏
Thank you very much! That means lot. Big hugs!!
Great comparison! So many people ask in FB about non-Floetrol recipes; this would be very helpful. Thanks for doing this. PS your sense of humor cracks me up; don’t ever lose that!
Noted!! I am thrilled you enjoy my humor. Thank you for watching Paige!
Glue is the best! Thank you
Thank you for watching!
One of the reasons you continue to get sells is because you're using titanium White. And also if you were to torch your art and bust the bubbles you would also come up with more lacing and cells as well. But it's actually the titanium white that's giving you cells
I will be testing this soon. Torching does bring up bubbles but it doesn't always produced the desired effect of cells so its not something I rely to teach newer artist because it will just be confusing. Thanks for chiming in. ❤️
Amsterdam Titanium White and Amsterdam Lamp Black are very “heavy” colours physically and mixed 1:1 with water usually give cells . You’d get cells without torching anyways , just stand back and wait a couple of minutes or just blow on them gently with a straw - you’ll get cells .
US floetrol doesn't give any cells. Latex based. Australian Floetrol is oil based, gives cells.
@@robertkattner1997 - Aussie Floetrol is developed for use with acrylic paints whereas US Floetrol is designed to be used with latex based paints . That’s why you get cells with the Aussie version . There’s nothing I can find in the ingredients that indicates any oil in Aussie Floetrol 🤷♀️. All oils are too heavy and end up having to be washed out of your painting if you use them to make cells - you don’t need to wash Aussie Floetrol out of a canvas or off a tile so you can varnish it or cover it in resin ?
The answer, Garrick Brown IS Cel Activator!!!! I pick #2 but I really pick you my friend!❤
Awww you are so sweet Louise!
Honestly, I was impressed by all of them. I might be leaning more towards the Glue All one though. I’ve only bought one Aussie Floetrol and while I like it, I’m only a hobbyist and can’t justify the cost. Thanks you Garrick for giving us more options. ❤ Looking forward to the next experiment.
Yes so many ppl cannot access it so I'm determined to provide as much insight as I can on alternatives. Thanks for watching friend.
@@GarrickBrownArtStudio That’s why we love you! ❤️
Great video Garrick. I live in the UK so haven’t used Australian Floetrol because of the price ❤❤
Totally understand. I think I am to find more products to try because I have gotten alot of comments that aussie floetrol just isn't an option!
Hi from South Africa! Thank you so much for taking the time to do these tests, I am a newbie to acrylic pouring, and you have just answered so many of my questions! I feel much more confident now!
Yay!!! Omg I love hearing this. Makes my day. Thanks for watching.
Ok, I’m a fan for life, I just subscribed.
You are awesome, I’m in Canada and I can’t justify spending 75.00$ on a little jug of Floetrol, at least I have some alternatives now, thank you, thank you and it works with the piggies even better🤩🇨🇦
Thanks for the sub! So happy this was helpful!
You have totally cleared the cobwebs of utter confusion from my mind. Seriously, thank you! I’m a new subscriber and I’ll definitely be back. 😊
You are MORE than welcome!! I'm working on additional experiments for you guys. Much ❤️
Hi I just discovered your channel with happiness. I'm speechless, how can you have beautiful little cells with a 1:1 paint and water recipe? Magic but it's magnificent, with a few recipes on the same table, we obtain different shapes and sizes of cells I imagine. I don't really know this universe, I paint very large abstract paintings. But I'm not saying I won't try. as a base coat, is it just pure acrylic paint or is it diluted?. Your work is magnificent. Have a great day. A new subscriber from Montreal.
Thanks and welcome!!! Paint pouring is a addiction lol. Great questions here. We are using just acrylic paints for my colors. The base can be tricky with the terms. I am using house paint as what we refer to as a pillow which gives us a cushion paint to blow out our colors. This is not a requirement. You can make a "pillow" paint with acrylics. I am actually.making a video on this hoping to release next week because it can be very confusing, many artist use these terms but can mean different things depending on the technique!
So happy UA-cam keeps recommending me niche art hobbies I've never heard of, this loves beautiful man! Keep up the good work 🙏
Awww this is so awesome!! Thank you for watching. Paint pouring is an addiction haha!!!
Wow! I can't believe the results with water ❤❤❤
Me neither friend!!
Gorg gorg gorgeous! Love the colors. I have bee using glue for a while now, it’s cheap and easy and fantastic results. I use vinyl glue. It is so much cheaper than the floetrol and works pretty much just the same. First time that I saw your channel, you have a beautiful, calm, velvet voice. Thank you for this video and I will be back. 🎉
Awww Thanks so much for your kind words! 😊 I am hoping to find more recipes and do a Part II video.
Hi Garrick. I’m new to your channel and had so much fun watching you create these coasters. Owatrol was my least favorite but they are all quite beautiful. Thanks for the lesson and much laughter.
Awww welcome Charlene!
really cool thanks so much! I liked and subscribed and will be watching more of you. a little depressing since Aussie floetrol is so expensive but alot of the others were pretty cool and loved your colors!
Yes the alternatives work wonderful!! Thanks so much for watching. Much love! ❤️
Very informative and everything explained so very well, sir Garrick 💜.Loved all the dried results,I guess I can now start experimenting with water and glue recipes as they also came out gorgeous and very nice option for people like me who don't want to spend extra in expensive supplies, thank you for sharing your experimenting video 🙏💜
Thanks for watching bro! Love what you are doing on your channel too.
Awesome job 🤘
Excellent testing Garrick! I’m surprised with the glue and paint as my recipe has that and wood conditioner. It worked beautifully without it. Going to try that without for sure! I recently splurged on a small bottle of Aussie and expected to be wowed. But there are such good recipes out there like yours, it’s not a necessary buy. Fabulous as always my friend❤.
Yes you can stretch that aussie flow. I have definitely.used my american floetrol with aussie flow and it worked great. Now you have more options. ❤

Love that you have the scrolling with the recipe
Yes that is something I am trying out!!
Thank you for experimenting so that I do not have to! I love your personality and appreciate the processes you share.
You are so welcome!
This is super helpful! Especially for people like me who can't even buy Australian (or even American) Floetrol where they live. I've used Owatrol's Aussie-trol as a cell activator, and although you get lacing with it, I don't really like it that much. Now I'm excited to try some other recipes :)
Glad it was helpful! I am experimenting and hoping to have a Part II in a couple weeks with more recipes!!
What a great video.Thank you for sharing it. I ALMOST have all my questions answered...thanks to you. Let me ask you, on all the cell activators youve made, even on this video, have you ever made one with the white paint NOT being Amsterdam or NOT having the word titanium in it? Id try myself right now but i live in a very, VERY small community and cant find that anywhere around here. Ill send for it in the mail someday but just curious if it has to be what i mentioned above or if any brand of white works cuz ive tried and i dont know if its cuz i did something wrong, (too thick etc.) Or if it has to be titanium or amsterdam ? I really hope i made sense. Even a lil so ya get what im saying ? Just wandering about your experience with it....
Excellent question!! Ive wondered this myself and testing it currently. I'll post a new video with more on this! 🥰❤️🙌🙌🏿
The glue! Omg awesome demo! 😊
Right?!

They all have cool looks (I agree about the Owatrol being a little thick). I was surprised you got such good results without the AUS Floetrol. Great experiment!!

Love! Love! Love! This video!
So glad! Thanks for watching.
The glue is my favorite and I really like the ink one too
Of course the Aussie is great but that’s a given
Thank you
#3: the Elmer’s glue. I can’t wait to try it for myself. Thanks for the comparison of these products.
I cannot wait to see what you create.
Nice video Garrick. They are all pretty.
Glad you like them friend!
My favorites are 1 and 5. Aussie is still my top selection.
You can't beat the Aussie but the others are really close!!
Thank you, thank you, I just spent couple hours trying to get cells., I have floetrol silicone oil, and never tried glue or just water. Thank for these recipes, I am going to try again tonight.
Ohhh!! Can't wait to hear about your results.
Further - as a UK resident really pleased with recipes 1, 2, and 6 as these products are available. American and Australian Floetrol ridiculously expensive plus cost of shipping. It sure if Elmers Glue is available but there will be UK equivalent. Great video.
I hate that for you but glad this alternative works!!
Very very interesting, thank you so much. Greetings from Germany! 🔥🍀
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Great job, thank you for putting the work in! I’m amazed for sure. Been torn about buying Aussie floetrol, but now going for glue all. I’ve been thinking about giving it a try anyway. I’ve only used floetrol, because it was easier and close to same price as American floetrol (prices are raising now. I recently bough M1 floetrol, it’s clear and more liquid, but seems to thicken with paint.
You can do it! I'd love to hear about your results. Thanks again!!!
Wonderful experiment👍
Thank you friend!
I like them all 🥰 Thank you 🙏
Thanks Kay!
The one with the glue was gorgeous
Wasn't it? I'm still shocked!

Thank you!!
Cool🤙🏼
You are truly AMAZING! You remind me of an Artist that I have been watching for years and that is Tammy Anderson. She explains everything in great detail like you do! I was doing paintings back in 2015 and got out of it for a variety of reason. I can't thank you enough for all that you do. You make it easy to follow and you explain things in great detail. The only question I have and I get really anxious about it is what paint are you using for your base paint? I see so many using this or that and I have so many different paints sitting around here. All I want is one simple house paint to use or a mixture that I can make up and keep it on hand and know what I am using it for. Please help.
Awww thanks for the love. I use house paint straight from the can PPG MultiPro... however I am working on a new video about house paint and making your own for blooms. 😄
Sorry, I just found your video about pillow paints. Thank you xx
Yay for you!
Thank you!
Thank you so much ❤
You're welcome 😊
The Australian floetrol of course, but the Glue one would work for me and it's a hell of lot cheaper $$$ 👌🏽
TY! Subbed!
Thank you so much.
Thanks!
Wow thank you so much for the tip!
thank you for the lesson@@GarrickBrownArtStudio
If I may, using water to have faster and better results: using only water put all the paint then a bit of water when the water is incorporated you go on adding water little by little, when using water+another medium put the other medium with the paint and only when they incorporate you add water little by little. I learnt this cooking, first the thickest liquid then the other little by little like this you should also avoid lumps.
Thanks for the tip.
You are too cute with all this. Loved it and thank you!
Thanks for the love.
Thank you, Garrick. I think glue and Aussie are pretty darn close. Loved this video. Have to run.. making French Dip Sandwiches for dinner!😂
Sounds great! Thanks for stopping in friend.
