When the Andals invaded Westeros they may have had superior weapons and technology, but they lacked something the first men had. Magic. Specifically blood magic. Rather than confront magic directly they created institutions to either encourage people to disbelieve/forget or oppose magic altogether. Furthermore since no one is 100% innocent in the world of ice and fire it"s safe assume that no one is 100% guilty either. Maybe the andals have legitemite grievances concerning magic. After all who knows what horrible and destructive things the first men did with magic? Fear may explain why the whitewashed and hid most of history.
That is true think about Euron greyjoy you wouldn’t want a guy like that or Joffrey or seven forbid Ramsey Bolton running around with the capability to control bears wolves or being able to summon massive title waves that could destroy continents so I do see your point
Raven Strategist I think the andals represent a much smaller part of the population in weteros than many people think. I believe a majority of them are the small lords with the first men making up the every great house excepting arryn I think and I think the small folk are first men as well.
I can't tell you how much I enjoyed this video. I'm actually working on an essay that incorporates my belief that the Faith of the Seven and the Church of the Starry Wisdom are one and the same. In fact, just yesterday, I was writing about Heptagrams. I didn't go the Lovecraftian route like you did but I came to the same conclusion. Great job.
because The Haunter of the Dark was where you get to see Lovecraft's Church of the Starry Wisdom, I decided to read it a few months ago and when I got to the part I read in this video, my jaw dropped to the floor when I realized the whole room is set up exactly like a sept
I'm reading A Song of Ice and Fire for a second time now and it's really fun to watch these videos and see the lies at the same time. Love these videos!
I think it's because doing these videos is brutal...you have to comb through all the information they give you and find the inconsistencies...it took us like 5 months to accumulate enough instances to begin working on the first video
I think about the time you must put into research and then presentation that I almost think you'd be better served writing your own stories. Sometimes I think you're working harder than George is and you give him too much credit. But keep up the good work mates.
Catelyn is a servant of the many-faced god, I knew it. It all clicked. She's very devoted to the Seven. Like that first chapter where she works with the Maester or Septon (memory failing me) Why every thing she decided to do was so chaotic and not at all logical, and she CONSTANTLY seemed like she was on a mission "for her kids" but really she constantly put them in danger and didn't really take care of them? (the CATELY-st for the current state of Westeros hue hue hue) Why she had to marry Ned and have his babies, to corrupt them (seeing as the Stark bloodline is so important to the first men, and he was falling for/ married to a Dayne and you KNOW it was a hot topic of Andal discussion) Why all the Stark children are now being drawn to the dark side Her clear dislike of Jon - it goes beyond even that his claim is better - his heritage is pure First Men, not to mention high potential for a Stark AND Dayne combo aka ANDAL CRYPTONITE Annnndddd why she's been made Lady Stone heart. I think it's a trap, a trick - she's not been brought back like Jon or Beric but like the Others cos leal servitude. *CATELYN FUCKIN TULLY* we could use like 10 more videos of that
This is what happens when you subsist on a diet of tinfoil. We have chapters from her perspective and see her thought process clearly, speculating that there's some hidden motive in a person whose thoughts were expressed as the mode of telling her story is pretty goofy AT BEST.
@@tinfoiltyrant Okay, so Cat is 100% Narcissist. Clear as day. She's her N father's golden child (Lysa is the scape goat and Brynden is literally the black sheep in the family as he's called before he changes it to Black Fish). Her motives seem noble in a society that values her goals, but objectively they're very Narcissistic traits. Her family words, which she still lives by because she doesn't consider herself Northern, is Family, duty, honor. Basically, submit to and perpetuate the system. It's a matter of pride and vanity, that religious people irl are known for. If I'm not mistaken the Faith is inspired by the RCC, and we can see in both of them this push for dominion and control, which is narcissistic in itself. With all of that said, Ns are notorious liars and manipulators and they seem to be ignorant of this behavior. Liars, after all, are their own biggest victims (they tell themselves the biggest lies of all they tell and believe those lies the most of any of their hearers). So we're not going to get a coherent "I'm a terrible person" kind of thought during her POV. Ns can't consider that they are wanting in any way. It would destroy their massive egos. She makes bad decisions consistently and makes excuses for them. She sabotages her sons efforts in the war and even tells about how she remembers when he was a baby BECAUSE, between the lines, she wants him to still be her little baby. Her favorite is Bran and her least favorite is Arya (we get an account of her emotional neglect of Arya). If you've ever been in close proximity to a Narc this relational paradigm happens naturally in families as well as in small teams at work. When Bran is in the coma, she loses it. She completely neglects her other children. That is not a good mother. This way of mothering as a whole is a good way to mess all the kids up and make them ripe for what's happening with them through the books: Bran gets more license to do things he's not supposed to do and has supernatural aid. Arya gets acceptance and purpose. Sansa fell into a world of hurt that she was completely unprepared for thanks to her mother. I actually have the most hope that Sansa will overcome the disadvantages she's been put through. She started off entitled and life is stomping that out. Robb died. And with Rickon, it's still too early to tell.
@@genesisdawn6672 She certainly sucks as a mother overall, and constantly fucks up and is the driving force behind the chaos that befalls her family. Remember Ned was going to refuse Roberts request for him to become his hand. It was Cat who convinced him that Robert was in danger and he should go to protect him.
I glad you used the one with King in it. Me and my husband could fill your ears with KING CONNECTIONS to H.P and a ton of others. If you want a good KING book. Start with Insomnia. You will think before you fall asleep EVERY NIGHT after.
Brilliant work as always. Although I cannot agree that the White Walkers are the evil ones, there is no denying your excellent linking of Lovecraft, the Faith of the Seven, and the Bloodstone Emperor.
Note: about House Dayne: the first star in their sigil was 7pointed. But Martin checked and made sure the star in the Dayne sigil has 8points. Ideas? The 8pstar stands for knowledge and patience as far as I could find.
Even the eightfold path of Buddha to attain Nirvana - the supreme bliss and a way to get liberated from the endless cycle of life and death to remain in heaven forever
I was thinking how George said his book isn't lord of the rings. If Jon was rhegars and lyannas kid which I dont believe really. Wouldn't that make him the hidden prince in typical medeval stories and that itself would disprove r plus l equals j.
I've heard that the Iron Islands' Drowned God also has ties to Lovecraft (maybe it was you guys who mentioned it I'm not sure) but I'd love to see a video on it! It would also be really interesting to see how the black stone monuments connect to the lies of the Sept, especially considering the external description of the Church of the Starry Wisdom
You know, there is something that has been on my mind now based on what you shared here: what if Hukko from the pentoshi singers was an Andal king who had declared war on a group of clans in the velvet hills, who shared a common culture and faith, but were extremely territorial and sacrificed anyone who intruded in their lands? After the war ended, Hukko, in turn, sacrificed the leading matriarchs of those clans, who were extremely young at the time (there being 7 of them either was something the faith added later on or was the inspiration for the number 7 in the religion) and either used the swan as their symbol or could skinchange into them (maybe due to some blood of the Ifequevron in their families), to his own gods and brought the remaining people into Andalos. When Hukko died and his son Hugor took over as king, the different cultures and religions in Andalos caused chaos to emerge between the people living there. Seeing Hugor struggling with this chaos in Andalos, members of the Starry wisdom (who might have come to hukko as well, as his advisors, and helped him keep the peace among the other Andals, while guiding where the Andals would conquer and expand their territory next, as well as helping in building relations with other peoples, but not doing anything to change the religion, which would otherwise have made the Andals sacrifice them to the gods) came to help bring unity with the different cultures by helping Hugor and later, the holy priests, create a faith that the different peoples could identify with, while teaching their knowledge and beliefs in the stars in the night sky and the things that share the sky with them, knowledge and beliefs the Andals would include as a sign of gratitude and respect. But along with all this, the starry wisdom would also, very subtly, include the more darker aspects of their faith, without the Andals fully realizing it. Then, to make it so that this new "puppet" faith would spread beyond essos, they then promised Hugor that one day his sons would become kings in a far away land, a paradise away from the mighty unified empires of essos that would wish to snuff them out. Later on, propaganda and "telephone" would give The Seven credit for all this, making it so that the darker reasons couldn't be discovered. If anyone in the Faith knew something was up, they would more likely just believe that it was just the Andals using propaganda to further convert westeros And the first men while making sure the faithful stayed faithful, and would accept that (it helps their religion after all) and continue their work. If they didn't accept it and caused problems , either the faith or the Citadel conspiracy ( created when the Andals managed to control oldtown And tasked with making sure stability and the power of the faith remained in westeros) would take care of the individual in question. All the while, The church of starry can wait in the port cities or among certain people who leave the ports while slowly spreading through trade as the faith goes stronger again and the maesters insure the faith and order remain throughout everything that's going on in westeros and the Faceless men (who might knew a little bit more about what's going on) are paid by people to kill different people, while in the background they complete their given Objective. if you are curious about the possible objective of the faceless men, i'll share that, but no time right now.
What i don't get is why the andals would chop down the weirwoods, since they're also representations of him of many faces. Perhaps they don't even realize what they're doing. Perhaps their actions are not as deliberate we're led to believe, and in true Lovecraftian fashion, they're but peons in a game they can't even begin to comprehend. I'd love to know what your thoughts are, and i can't wait for what you've got for us next. Happy new year.
With this new perspective I would love to know what your thoughts are on the importance of House Dayne. I have made my mind for years, also considering what Martin stated in interviews. He seems to be very quiet and short when asked about Daynes. Yet, he said, they will play a role and all will be unvovered in due time. Their House words would spoil the story, their family tree to be revealed in future books. Their colour is a violet. Red and Blue mixed makes violet. Ice (blue) and Fire (red). They are referred to Amethysts like the Amethyst Empress, whom the BE betrayed. And their sword is pale as milkglas. We get this description also for the swords of the Others. And Dany sees swords, white as milkglass in her vision, when she sees the Gemstone Emperors. I would really love to see your thoughts about House Daynes part in the picture.
This maybe my first comment on a youtube video after a long time. I genuinely want to let you guys know how lucky i feel to stumble upon this channel while i was swimming through a shit river of r+l = j theories. And also this is the only channel i follow that i read the comments section because i know there's someone out there that will have a good question to think about. Great work guys and thank you for all of it !
I've been trying to make sense of the Lovecraft connections to ASOIAF for a couple years, and your video was a tremendous help. The question now is whether or not Lovecraftian beings actually exist within the world of ASOIAF, or if the references are really all they are. Great video!
The order of the green hand is spot on.The king's guard wear white armour just like the others who are also white swords, renly had a rainbow guard, the rainbow being a symbol of the faith of the seven the rainbows are the others, so the faith of the seven worship the others
its already January 1 2018 in this side of the world, and this is the first YT video iim watching while having my first breakfast of the new year. Thank you for another Lie of these Andals. Happy New Year! since its still Dec 2017 there. haha
However it would be doublethink to assume that R'hllor (name sounding very Lovecraftian) whose followers literally burn people alive and practice slavery are the good guys. I think that the Seven began as a mere worlbuilding element, just reskinned Catholicism but over time George got this sinister idea. Also Happy New Year!
Church of starry wisdom ,the starry Sept always sounded to me like a secret society. The higher you go the more mysteries get revealed to you. The fiery hand and the swords and stars very well may be on opposite sides but the secrets held by their masters could be the same forbidden knowledge. The bloodstone emperor had his "wisdom" I wonder if the amethyst princess had hers as well and perhaps one took advantage of that before the other had a chance to display theirs. In other words perhaps the emperor made the move before the princess made hers. Maybe all the magic and power comes from the same source, and its up to the wielder of those powers to determine the course. To be honest, I don't feel a benevolent force in this series, people are flawed so they bring out a selfishness in their hopes and dreams leading the great power or great other to take a more pragmatic course rather than heeling. You have to give yourself up totally. With all the past lives in animals and weirwoods the powers are focused on those past lives and desires. The powers are focused on that. You can't move forward if you're always in the past.
This is gonna make my New Years Eve so much more awesome. I don't know what time it is over there but here in the Netherlands new years is in 2 and a half hour. Happy New Year !
I was totally thinking the church of starry wisdom and the seven had a connection ever since I saw the star of the seven and the church mentioned in tandem. I was so glad that you mentioned it, I had been wanting to explore the concept for some time. I had originally thought the Faith of the Seven had forgotten it's starry roots and transformed into a diluted version, yet it seems ever more sinister - I'm so excited to read through the series. Also side-note - Catelyn talks about singing praises in her small sept in Winterfell and that's eerily similar to the tales of the Priests of the Starry Wisdom singing atop their towers in Essos.
Arya's description of the Church of the Starry Wisdom in Braavos was pretty creepy...they built the whole temple out of metallic black stone of some sort that is almost like a black mirror and they only worship at night
I feel like glass candles are more like a greenseeing for dummies tool created magically with the only difference being there are no references to them being able to be used to see the past or future
Also, totes makes sense why Dany feels drawn to end the Ghiscari and slavers. Deep down the dragon remembers. I wonder if the doom was planned by the followers of Blood Emp to take out Valyrians, so Aegon came and made his seat in Westeros to regain power and team up with the First Men Magic vs. ya lyin Andal bullshit
Mrs. Morbid but Aegon's and other Targaryen king's court was filled mostly with Andal scum, and very few first men followers. I seriously hope houses like Royce, Blackwood, Dayne have some serious firepower left in them to be a major power player in the Great War to Come.
Subarno Sinha Amost every seat in his small council was filled by houses that existed before the andals landed in westeros or are descendent from valyria.
He never teamed up with the First Men. Targaryens became Faith of The Seven followers. They more like teamed up with the legacy of the lying Andals. Would have been cool if they became Old God's followers instead and destroyed the false faith of the Andals, too bad it didn't happen
Finally you have started talking about the H.P. Lovecraft influence in GoT. I've watched a bunch of IdeasOfIceAndFire videos that pointed out so many possible connections. I've not heard about this one with the faith of the Seven (that is actually 1) yet. I really like the idea of gems, crystals and stones having magical or otherworldly properties/powers.
When Catelyn was in the sept and used a torch for light, it was past sunset. Plus, windows are costly the further down you go in the class system. And when winter comes, as it inevitably does, how will the congregation stay warm? The candles lit? The wealthiest sept can afford stained glass. And huge windows to let the light in, and the wind/snow out. It seems to me that each region/sept does it’s best to be well lit, preferably by natural light, but in places like Winterfell it’s just not worth it to put in big windows. Even in summer it’s chilly there.
What a way to start the year, Lord and Lady Greenhand! Thank you! Happy New Year and congratulations on your engagement!! All the best to you both in 2018!!! - Guido
Happy new year y’all! Great video as always. But it leaves me with a question. Do you thinking ASoIaF is actually set in Lovecraft’s open source setting, or is all this just artistic homage and borrowed, similar concepts? Could the world of ice and fire be one of the worlds that Blake sees when he looks into the crystal stone, for example? The exert you read says, “... with half-formed worlds of wonder within... alien orbs with great stone towers, and other orbs with... no mark of life...” he clearly seeing other planets, some with life. Is it probable that the world of ASoIaF is one of, if not that very, “alien orb” with stone towers? Or is it all just a wink and nudge to one of GRR Martin’s favorite writers? Basically, is it just a reference, or should ASoIaF actually be considered part of the mythos in your opinions? Also, do you think you might do a video on who actually knows they work for The Others? The Kindly Man knows who he works for, but does the High Sparrow know, or is he just a tool? What about the septs as a whole? Do the Maesters know, or are they just so focused on self preservation that they are useful pawns? You’ve touched on a lot of people over the course of your videos who are serving The Others, some more wittingly than others, but any chance at a comprehensive compilation of The Others’ servants?
there are definitely some aspects of the story that could lead you to think that Lovecraft's work inspired the setting of the story...then sometimes I find myself wondering if this is going to be the ultimate Ragnarok except it's going to be Lovecraft's Outer Gods vs real world mythology figures, but I tend to stick to the idea that he is so well researched that aspects of just about everything, from real-world history, to mythology of every sort, to Lovecraftian mythos, to every religion in the history of the world...the more you dig, the more you realize that the research he has done for this series is incredible
Ack you guys another killer analysis! Indeed, the clues are always right in plain sight...and yet it takes such keen eyes to see them! Wish I had something more to contribute other than my appreciation, but so it goes...in case you didn't see my msg on the other vid--wishing you both a happy holiday season and sending my thanks for the past year of fun and ASOIAF scholarship thanks to the Green Handers!
The Titan of Braavos stands like the Orion constellation. I know in another video you cover that constellation connecting to House Dayne. And upon looking up information about that constellation (quick scan through Wikipedia): There are seven primary stars in the constellation. Orion was thought to be the father of the Nephilim (potentially demigods) in Ancient Aram. In the Medieval Middle East, the sixth brightest start of that constellation was called the Sword of the Giant. In India there is a connection between this constellation and Shiva. In old Hungarian tradition Orion is called Nimrod (the greatest hunter) and has two sons Hunor and *Magor* . In Scandanavian tradition Orion's Belt is known as Freya's distaff. In various Spanish speaking countries the belt is know as either the Three Marys or the Three Wise Men. For the Chippewa people, he is referred to as the *Winter Maker* as his presence heralds the coming of winter. The Lakota have a myth about part of the constellation called the Hand. The gods punished a chief for his selfishness by having his arm ripped off. His daughter promised to marry whomever could restore the arm. A young warrior called Fallen Star (who's father was a star and mother a human) returned the arm and married the daughter. This signified harmony between gods and humanity. Tolkien included an analog of Orion called Menelvagor, the Swordsman in the Sky. Sometimes Orion is depicted as fighting Taurus or hunting Lepus (the hare) and some times carries a lion hide. Meissa is the star representing Orion's head and is known as the Shining One. Theta Orionis is a cluster of stars in the heart of the constellation and is called the Trapezium. The constellation is related to Aurvandil in Germanic mythology. That name has a cognate in English which means morning star or dawn. This Aurvandil figure was also married to a seeress. And had a frozen toe. This figure has ties to Eostre (Easter/Ishtar, a fertility diety, to whom, in the oldest traditions, received the sacrifices of babies and the blood from those sacrifices was used to die eggs) and Lucifer (who's name literally means light bringer).
So cool, so cool, _so cool!_ That reading of Lovecraft was awesome, and helped emphasize connections that previously seemed to be mere allusions. Makes your argument all the more convincing. More of that please!
Waking up on new year's day to an Order of the Green Hand video, that's a nice way to start a new year. There's a sure fire way to know exactly how the Faith of the Seven is evil without all this piecing things together and looking at every little detail, we all know they're evil if we consider every sept has seven wall forming a heptagon. Do you know how god damn difficult those angles are to cut? The interior angles between all the walls are 128.57142857142857142857142857143 degrees or 2.2439947525641380274733167023425 radians, how the hell do you measure that using medieval hand tools? And the faith demands thousands of those damn septs be built across all the 7 Kingdoms, that right there is proof enough of their evil ways. I feel sorry for all those carpenters.
couldn't agree more...we read a bit about that a few days ago and from what we read about it they're impossible to measure with a compass and therefore no perfect ones exist
Interesting, I didn't know that. Maybe they should amalgamate the Father and the Smith, and the Mother and Crone so that there's only 5 aspects with pentagon shaped temples a replacing seven pointed stars with pentagrams. That'd be much less evil.
if you look at the official art of the seven (all sitting around the circle table), the Crone and Maiden appear as though they are part of the Stranger, and the Warrior and Mother look like they are part of the Father, and no one apparently likes the Smith
What I like in the backstories of asoiaf is most questions get answered before asking a question. Like the women who joined the nights watch was killed. If a targaren drinks wildfire. Will they turn to a dragon. They don't. That's why I like this series. Clear the misconceptions that George made as he said it himself that history is messy
This makes alot of sense. Especially the H.P Lovecraft angle of interpretation. Think about it: -The Ironborn worship the drowned God. "That which is dead may never die". That is a Lovecraft quote. -The Faceless Men are assassins. They clearly worship death. -The Weirwood tree up north, from were the others come, are keeping the Three Eyed Raven alive in a state of apparent undeath. -The Seven creates mounts of skulls. The face of the Stranger. Deathworship Beyond that there is the Qohor religion: The Black Goat with a thousand young. Lovecraft reference, The Lion of Night worshipped in Yiti & the Undying Ones in Asshai. Whom are clearly undead. In fact I think that everyone is really worshipping the same evil God. Melissandra & Stannis are just creating another face for it. With the sacrifice of Stanis daughter & the shadow baby killing Renly....In actual fact GOT might be true cosmic horror in the Lovecraftian sense: There is no hope nor salvation. Just a grotesque, cruel being that have created the world & you just in order to feed from the death & misery for no reason. Nothing can be done to combat or defeat it. As shown by Melisandra, Lady Stone Heart & Stannis. They just add to the worship of death & suffering
I think the interplay between the different "gods" of this world is like the dichotomy between Cthulu and Hastur; they both have their devotees who would consider them "good" but no love for one another, and are (mostly) alien and horrifying, whether it's the Other or the Lord of Light.
I enjoyed this series of videos very much thx guys! Although, since you bring Lovecraft into this which is obviously huge influence on GRRM you should know that the horrors he played around came from men realizing how irrelevant they are in the face of whats out there. You guys still try to explain things in terms of good and evil. Lovecraft nor GRRM work like that. If Gods exist in Planetos and they are Lovecraftian than they are simply being beyond human understanding that toy with humans for their own reasons. So the both sides are being used and in the end no one wins.
Another great vid! Glad to see someone finally touching on the occult! I've long held the notion that he must be initiated into the higher mysteries due to the sheer amount of references woven throughout the entire series. Maybe it's all simply a coincidence, but they seem too numerous to me to simply be mere happenstance. Great work, and I'd love for you both to dig into this more.
Fun fact: The way Melissandre burnt down idols of Seven and was openly hostile to it and the followers, we did not see her doing the same with Weirwood trees or say anything offensive to the Old Gods yet. I don't seem to remember that Melissandre wanted to burn down the Wall in the books
Amazing video! Thank you guys! Had to begin re-reading the books when first came across your channel. Wish you thousands new subscribers in the New Year!!! “Did you only sing of six gods?...” “Seven,” he agreed, “but no one sings of the Stranger.”
I got the feeling that the wildlings that opposed the many faced God somewhat follow the way of the shadow binders its interesting how many are essentially wearing masks when the confront Jon and the half hand. The also strange fear wildlings have with naming children under two as if once named they are put in a hunger game type drawing for sacrifice tributes. I also think it's strange that the umbers and karstarks follow the old gods and old practices according to Roose especially the lords right to the last night. This being said makes me think that Lord Umber is not really as angry as we are told that a wildling stole his daughter to Bride. Since it sounds like they practice similar ancient traditions and would think it normal but has to save face with the others that don't practice such ancient traditions so proclaims hatred of all wildlings. But love your videos going back through them all. Hope all is well
I feel like there is something off in the reasoning as you link the trees to the others to death to the many faced god and the blood stone emperor indicating they would all be in unison then indicate that the children who warship the trees who are linked to the faceless god/ seven and death etc are at odds with the andals ?
Thank you so much...this one wasn't quite as complicated as the Bloody Blade, but there were a few moments where I thought making this video might kill me or my brain might break
Happy New Year, guys! I really enjoy your videos and I think that your theories might be right. I mean, there are some interpretations that could go both ways, right or wrong, but most of the things that you said actually make sense. The evidence that you brought supports everything. It's really hard, at this point, after watching all your work so far, to say that things could go on a different path. They might, of course, since GRRM is the only guy who knows everything there is to know about A Song of Ice and Fire and who decides what happens next. But right now, I believe that there's a 60-70-80% chance that you're right. I just have one question: How will these pieces of information be revealed? It looks to me like you'd need an entire book just to explain to the audience the entire "lies of the andals and of the seven" chapter. And if indeed Ned was married to Ashara, then there's a lot of work to be done there as well. So? Another book, similar to The World of Ice and Fire? Or maybe Bran, through his visions? I don't see how the other characters would be able to find this information and then share it with the audience. Since we see the world of Ice and Fire through the eyes of a very small number of people, who have their own opinions and beliefs, there's definitely a lot that we don't know about it. Could some lord Hightower chapters do the job? That guy definitely knows something and I'd love to read his POV. Maybe a Jaquen chapter, to reveal the connection between the many faced god and the others? Or maybe Arya stumbles upon the entire conspiracy while in Braavos and afterwards she runs back to Westeros to warn everybody? p.s. I feel that Arya is one of the most important characters in the entire story and I believe that she could play an important part in bringing down the Faceless Men and even the Others. I think that Jaquen made a mistake when he sent her to Braavos. Maybe he thought that she was too far gone, after hearing her recite her list. And maybe he thought she could be turned, not knowing that she is a warg, connected to Nymeria and to her family as well. What do you guys think?
it seems (to us anyways) that Ashara herself is going to be the vehicle that reveals Jon's parentage...we feel pretty strongly that she is Lemore and when Aegon comes north, she will be with him and we'll get to see Jon meet his mother...Bran seems more likely to be the POV through which he gives us important ancient history information...we also are huge fans of Arya's character...a lot of people try to say she's broken, but it seems to us that her "Stark Values" are firmly entrenched in her personality and her sense of duty and justice will never allow her to truly "become no one"...I think her abilities are what the Faceless Men seek out in new recruits, but she is truly Ned's daughter and that will likely mean she's going to cause a ruckus on her way out of Braavos...most likely due to news she hears from the North about Stannis taking Winterfell and Wyman Manderly placing Rickon in his rightful place or something like that...or maybe even news about Jon, who is unquestionably her favorite family member
I hope that GRRM will not break her connection to Nymeria, as the show did. Those two need to get back together. Cersei and her bastard caused them to be separated. I demand justice. I demand that they get back together to fight the Others.:)
@@AdrianSPQR I don’t think Arya can break her connection to Nymeria. The Starks being wargs with the exception of Sansa Tully, isn’t a connection they worked at like Varamir (spelling?) six skins. Most of the Stark children warged their wolves not even aware of what it was or how. Arya thinks it’s just wolf dreams.
The Order of the Green Hand I'll try. Lucky we've got Ubers and Lyfts now. Whenever we get home we'll be safe. And you to my Lord and Lady! Have a Happy New year! 🤗
Happy new year guys. As usual, congrats on another great video. To a very large degree your theories confirm a lot of the community's suspicions and I believe you are spot on about a great many things. However I have a question. You have hypothesized that a) The children and the faceless men are in league in their common goal of "all men must die". b) The others ate the instrument that will bring about the doom of mankind. And here is the question. In my reading of the books so far (I'm still at ASOS) my idea is that the children and the others are really not buddies.
as we have progressed in our understanding of the deeper aspects of the story, we've sort of changed our opinion of the Children from being the primary source of evil, if you will, to a small piece of a larger pie...our opinion that they are not to be trusted hasn't changed though
I agree on many points in this series, but I'm not sure it's correct to conflate the Many-Faced God with the Others. As you say the first thing the Andals did when coming to Westeros was to work to break the Pact, but there's a lot of evidence linking the Children, Weirwoods, and Others, and it's very strongly suggested that the Others helped to build the Wall themselves. In that case they would be working to break a pact that benefits them and end sacrifices TO them through the introduction of the Faith, which makes no sense. Moreover, the Bloodstone Emperor founded the cult during his reign to worship a "fallen star", yet the Five Forts that stand watch to the Northeast and are clearly meant to ward the Others long predate him and quite possibly existed before the Great Empire altogether. In that case, we're looking at a third element introduced to the world that disrupts the balance between "ice" and "fire". This could explain the ultimate question of why the Others are choosing this moment to move - They're doing so in response to the growing influence of this power on the world, as they once did with the Bloodstone Emperor. Previously the existence of the Valyrians and the line of the Targaryans provided a counterbalance to this power, but their carefully orchestrated destructions have created the opportunity for this force to rise once again.
One of my favorite Lovecraft stories, and eerily familiar in the world of Ice and Fire. I always assumed the blood betrayal was a part of a ceremony that opened a portal letting horrible Demi god's through. That's what broke the seasons. IMHO.
I find it weird that many find Brandon and ashara theory more plausible than ned and ashara. If Brandon did steals his little brothers girl even if ashara was pretty. Why would ned name his son after him. I'm glad you disproved it with the timeline when jon was born but I hope it get cleared up soon in the next book about Jon
I was actually wondering why they are called "septs". It makes me smirk because it makes me think of "septic tank". I guess my instinct wasn't that far off. Awesome videos!
I know this is late but I feel it is relevant. The San Pedro Cactus is shaped like a seven pointed star when view from above or when cut into slices. It has hallucinogenic effects when consumed and was used in many Native American religious rituals. This is why it derives it's name from Saint Peter, as it is widely believed that Saint Peter held the keys to heaven.
I'm a year late to the party. But my head has been blown. This is what cosmic horror must feel like. Everything is fine until you realize the eldritch pattern, and there is no going back.
So what you're saying is the Faith of the Seven is another form of the Church of Starry Wisdom that the Bloodstone Emperor created when he bought about the Long Night. Ok.
The Order of the Green Hand Hooray! Btw last video I wrote a comment about House Arryn's name. In Turkish arın (arin will be the latinized form) means purify yourself and your bee since arı means pure/bee. I was wondering if we are supposed to pronounce Arryn the Turkish way because of this reason, with y being ə (shwa) sound like Kyrgyz? And what is the significance of bees in our story?
@@sirarthurofwinterfell282 facts, then think about dragons, same thing but worse
If there's one thing I've learned from this channel, it's that the andals are literally demons.
This is just a theory that requires heavy confirmation bias and re-interpretation of facts to be remotely plausible.
...Sounds like something a Lying Andal would say
All the Andals seem umplausable. They followers of death must have brainwashed them first and then used them to spread their "faith".
In my World we say badass
Happy new year 🎉🎊❤
Stannis Baratheon is the one true King
I'm reading A Song of Ice and Fire for a second time now and it's really fun to watch these videos and see the lies at the same time. Love these videos!
thanks Brett
Baelor's Sept is unnaturally brighter than others Septs, suspect?
it was built by a Targaryen
I'm liking these Andal exposes, you are the only channel doing it, that I see.
I think it's because doing these videos is brutal...you have to comb through all the information they give you and find the inconsistencies...it took us like 5 months to accumulate enough instances to begin working on the first video
"Andal exposes" I love that expression! Like they are the NYT breaking a scandal!!
I think about the time you must put into research and then presentation that I almost think you'd be better served writing your own stories. Sometimes I think you're working harder than George is and you give him too much credit. But keep up the good work mates.
It all makes sense now
Catelyn is a servant of the many-faced god, I knew it. It all clicked. She's very devoted to the Seven.
Like that first chapter where she works with the Maester or Septon (memory failing me)
Why every thing she decided to do was so chaotic and not at all logical, and she CONSTANTLY seemed like she was on a mission "for her kids" but really she constantly put them in danger and didn't really take care of them?
(the CATELY-st for the current state of Westeros hue hue hue)
Why she had to marry Ned and have his babies, to corrupt them (seeing as the Stark bloodline is so important to the first men, and he was falling for/ married to a Dayne and you KNOW it was a hot topic of Andal discussion)
Why all the Stark children are now being drawn to the dark side
Her clear dislike of Jon - it goes beyond even that his claim is better - his heritage is pure First Men, not to mention high potential for a Stark AND Dayne combo aka ANDAL CRYPTONITE
Annnndddd why she's been made Lady Stone heart. I think it's a trap, a trick - she's not been brought back like Jon or Beric but like the Others cos leal servitude.
*CATELYN FUCKIN TULLY* we could use like 10 more videos of that
Mrs. Morbid our Knight and the Lady of the Green Hand must dwell into Catelyn's cooked shit further than they've done.
This is what happens when you subsist on a diet of tinfoil. We have chapters from her perspective and see her thought process clearly, speculating that there's some hidden motive in a person whose thoughts were expressed as the mode of telling her story is pretty goofy AT BEST.
@@tinfoiltyrant AT BEST You haven't been paying attention
This way of mothering as a whole is a good way to mess all the kids up and make them ripe for what's happening with them through the books:
Bran gets more license to do things he's not supposed to do and has supernatural aid.
I read the Haunter of the Dark like 3 times to get ready to make this video and HP and George have very similar writing styles
Love these theories/facts. For the first time I can actually see some strings attached to what I always saw as random loose ends.
Lilli03071 it is also stands for the 8 virtues people should have according to the Ahi brotherhood from Seljuk empire - thank you for new info
I'm pretty sure the term deep ones are even used during damphairs POV chapters
Oh yeah. I don't really know much Lovecraft, but even I could spot the ties between the Drowned God and Cthulu.
If you ever see this and remember, what are the objectives of the Faceless Men?
@@ser_odin820 this was years ago, I forgot I even wrote this. I don't remember anymore what video I saw discussing that part
Happy new year.
.Pact The break To
With this new perspective I would love to know what your thoughts are on the importance of House Dayne.
You noticed dam-it I got away with it if it wasn’t you meddling order of the green hand.
well played
its already January 1 2018 in this side of the world, and this is the first YT video iim watching while having my first breakfast of the new year.
Definitely worth sneaking off during my break at work to listen to watch! Great cross analysis
You can't move forward if you're always in the past.
tulkas 42o like Dany said “if I look back I am lost”
I knew Stannis was the real hero
we love Stannis
I was just thinking yesterday that I needed my Green Hand fix! Yup, I'm an addict ;-)
Woke up from my nap and see that The Order of the Greenhand has uploaded. Gonna bring in the new year right. 😊
Love it! Happy new year!
This is gonna make my New Years Eve so much more awesome. I don't know what time it is over there but here in the Netherlands new years is in 2 and a half hour. Happy New Year !
Emre Saladin how can a honest to god dutchman watch a video while the top 2000 is on the radio? Even if it is from such an awesome channel.
sorry for the position we put you guys in
I was totally thinking the church of starry wisdom and the seven had a connection ever since I saw the star of the seven and the church mentioned in tandem.
Very interesting. Are the glass candles actually crystals? That could fit with what you said about the crystals and communication.
I feel like glass candles are more like a greenseeing for dummies tool created magically with the only difference being there are no references to them being able to be used to see the past or future
Indeed. Always gets the brain thinking lol
Also, totes makes sense why Dany feels drawn to end the Ghiscari and slavers. Deep down the dragon remembers.
I wonder if the doom was planned by the followers of Blood Emp to take out Valyrians, so Aegon came and made his seat in Westeros to regain power and team up with the First Men
Magic vs. ya lyin Andal bullshit
Mrs. Morbid but Aegon's and other Targaryen king's court was filled mostly with Andal scum, and very few first men followers. I seriously hope houses like Royce, Blackwood, Dayne have some serious firepower left in them to be a major power player in the Great War to Come.
Subarno Sinha
Amost every seat in his small council was filled by houses that existed before the andals landed in westeros or are descendent from valyria.
He never teamed up with the First Men. Targaryens became Faith of The Seven followers. They more like teamed up with the legacy of the lying Andals. Would have been cool if they became Old God's followers instead and destroyed the false faith of the Andals, too bad it didn't happen
" lying klepto-manic freaks." ha classic. Have a Happy and blessed New Year
you too
You two do such a fantastic job! Great video! As always, my mind is blown! This was such a fun subject, and you've connected the dots really well.
Now that's what I call a new year gift.
Thanks Hasan
Well done Ser & Lady Greenhand. 👏
thank you M'lady...Happy New Year
Cheers to the new year! !!! I love lady greenhands illustration.
What a way to start the year, Lord and Lady Greenhand! Thank you! Happy New Year and congratulations on your engagement!! All the best to you both in 2018!!! - Guido
Yes! Finally! An ASOIAF UA-cam channel does an in depth analysis of the connection between ASOIAF and Lovecraft! Thank you so much!
"as many faces as stars in the sky"
one representative from each star system, nice
I had caught how the Kindly Man didn't deny The Stranger and The Many Faced Gawd were the same. But I didn't catch the full implications
And upon looking up information about that constellation (quick scan through Wikipedia):
There are seven primary stars in the constellation.
Don’t need to watch it. I already know it’s lit
Thanks Leon
Woah I'm late to this one.. thanks for more great content guys happy new year
same to you
So cool, so cool, _so cool!_ That reading of Lovecraft was awesome, and helped emphasize connections that previously seemed to be mere allusions. Makes your argument all the more convincing. More of that please!
Thank you so much
Oh my goodness that is deep! Thank you for your efforts on this video, it is appreciated!
Happy New Year Ser & Lady Greenhand!! Thank you so much for all you've done, your work is very much appreciated 💚✋
Same to you m'lady
You guys just got me into lovecraft.
Happy New Year, Order of the Green Hand!!
I Just Subscribed.. I'm loving your videos.. Great Job with absolute details, the music and the way its narrated is very interesting.
Had to watch this video before the new year. Thank you Order of the Green Hand. Here's to many more great videos next year.
thank you Cojer
This makes alot of sense. Especially the H.P Lovecraft angle of interpretation.
Think about it:
-The Ironborn worship the drowned God.
Deathworship
Beyond that there is the Qohor religion: The Black Goat with a thousand young. Lovecraft reference, The Lion of Night worshipped in Yiti & the Undying Ones in Asshai. Whom are clearly undead.
In fact I think that everyone is really worshipping the same evil God. Melissandra & Stannis are just creating another face for it. With the sacrifice of Stanis daughter & the shadow baby killing Renly....In actual fact GOT might be true cosmic horror in the Lovecraftian sense:
There is no hope nor salvation.
Well said.
Now let's start the new year off with some Tywin Lannister videos!!
we have a 5-part series on Tywin
“Did you only sing of six gods?...”
“Seven,” he agreed, “but no one sings of the Stranger.”
The last 5 minutes summed up this section quite well! Happy New Year and I can't wait to see what the next topic will be!
Hope all is well
The sentence this video ended with literally gave me goosebumps 🤯
I feel like there is something off in the reasoning as you link the trees to the others to death to the many faced god and the blood stone emperor indicating they would all be in unison then indicate that the children who warship the trees who are linked to the faceless god/ seven and death etc are at odds with the andals ?
That was one of your best yet it was brilliant from beginning to end. Happy new year ! 💚
Thank you so much...this one wasn't quite as complicated as the Bloody Blade, but there were a few moments where I thought making this video might kill me or my brain might break
Happy new year Order of the Greenhand! You uploaded this around 2am in my part of the world. So the year's first video is yours. Thank you 😃
Happy New Year, guys! I just have one question:
How will these pieces of information be revealed?
Awesome way to start the new year, thank you!
Another has joined as a Knight of the Order of the Green Hand. Keep up the good work.
Burn the idols..mels got it sussed from the start..great vid guys . nice one
thanks James
Thanks for this awesome new year's gift.
You guys rock.
much appreciated Lady Tehn
The Order of the Green Hand 😊 ❤

The Order of the Green Hand I'll try. Lucky we've got Ubers and Lyfts now. Whenever we get home we'll be safe.
And you to my Lord and Lady! Have a Happy New year! 🤗
good...bring a coat...female New Years Eve attire doesn't tend to be warm
The Order of the Green Hand well, I have a far crazier theory about the others but I'm still reluctant to share :)
you don't need to be scared to tell us...it seems as though 3/4 of the internet thinks we're completely insane
The Order of the Green Hand only 3/4?
Ευάγγελος Παπακώστας do tell. I get the feeling the others will be different to what we are expecting.
One last great video before the year the over!!!
we figured we should end what has been a rollercoaster of a year on a high note
The Order of the Green Hand the only thing that could top this would be the winds of winter.
thank you so much...unfortunately we can't help make that happen
Happy new year to all!
Hey green hand have a wonderful new year's
you too troublesum
One of my favorite Lovecraft stories, and eerily familiar in the world of Ice and Fire. I always assumed the blood betrayal was a part of a ceremony that opened a portal letting horrible Demi god's through. That's what broke the seasons. IMHO.
the Haunter of the Dark does require "terrible sacrifices"
I love y'all work so much. Always worth the wait.
Thank you so much
Wow, this video actually made me intrigued to try reading Lovecraft.
he has a very similar writing style to George, except he's a bit darker
This just made my new years...now to watch.
I forgot how amazing this video is. I obtained a copy of the complete fiction of HP Lovecraft somewhat bc of this vid
I liked this video before I watched but think it'll be a safe bet. Thanks for the video & have an amazing New Year!
A fine way to start the new year ! Thank you
Happy New Year!!! You guys are the best!
thank you so much...happy new year
I'm a year late to the party. But my head has been blown. This is what cosmic horror must feel like. Everything is fine until you realize the eldritch pattern, and there is no going back.
OMG, you guys are THE BEST!
Keep em' coming!
Thanks Alexander...Happy New Year
Happy new year guys! Interesting video, as always!
So what you're saying is the Faith of the Seven is another form of the Church of Starry Wisdom that the Bloodstone Emperor created when he bought about the Long Night. Ok.
Great way to start off the new year
Thanks for the video
"you did it! [linking all those Lovecraftian references!] I was worried for a moment!"
the Night is cold & full of terrors
it is indeed...at least it is up here...your nights are probably comfortable
The cave from Arianne || I think has carved stone faces! And doesn't Weirwoods turn to stone instead of rooting? Wow...
Yes! More to come on that next video
