Same here. I have a 1996 Kawasaki Vulcan VN750A and I am not a big guy. Watched how it's done here in the video and had it up on its center stand within minutes.

@@MemoryLaneCinema My bike doesn't have a handle for this either, but I was able to find a good spot to grab on my frame near where the sissy bar bolts on.

This video gets the thumbs up for being to-the-point. I hate videos that are 10 minutes long to explain a 5 second technique! Thanks, Canyon Chasers!

This works! My 200kg (440lb) motorcycle was very difficult to put on the main stand any other way, I did manage it for maintenance etc. but it was a struggle. I just went out to the garage and popped the bike on and off the stand a few times with no effort at all; then laughed at myself for not getting this sorted out sooner. I have ridden bikes for over 50 years and always pulled them up by the bars.... hard work!. The Honda was just too heavy to do this without strain. This method is ridiculously easy. Why don't they put that in every owner's handbook!... Thanks buddy!... xoxo

I can't thank you enough! I can't believe how easy it is after following your advice. I found rocking the bike to get it off its centre stand a bit tricky. So, i tried doing basically the same thing as getting the bike upon the stand. But in reverse. I grab the frame under the seat with one hand, the other hand on handlebar, and sort of lift and move the bike forward. I find i have more control of the bike as it comes off the stand. :)

    Hello once again !
Today I tried to place my bike on the center stand using the technique mentioned in your video. To my utter surprise my 159 kg [ 351 lb appox ] bike could be placed on the center stand without applying any pressure at all. I didn't feel any weight of the bike while placing it on the stand, Placing it on the center stand was as smooth as butter unlike before.

Thank you! Just installed a center stand on my Honda NC 700 and thought that would be the hardest part. As it turns out, the hardest part is figuring out how to actually use the stand. When taking a heavy bike off the stand, extend the kick stand and stand at the opposite side of the bike (right side). Tip it towards you so it's on one foot of the centre stand and roll the bike forward. It will come off the stand and you'll have close control of it (as the bike will lean on you). If you muck it up and it leans the other way, the side stand catches it. (Much safer method...learnt the hard way)

But after watching your video i realised i was doing it all wrong.. I was applying a lot of force in the backward direction and the bike wouldn't budge an inch.. Simple but a very good informative video...👍🏼👍🏼.
If I may add one more tip: when we try to get the bike off the center stand, put the bike in gear, and pull the clutch in, and right after the rear wheel touches the ground, release the clutch slowly, working as a rear brake, preventing the bike rolling forward uncontrollably, especially when the bike is heavy with stuffs.
Keep up the good work, guys.. I love your channel..

Great "how to" video! I have a CB500F and I had no idea how to get the bike on the center stand to clean the chain. I tried rocking at first, and learned I was doing it, all wrong. After watching this video, it's a piece of cake to get my bike on and off the center stand. I don't have a "handle"near the rear of my bike but I can use one of the rear passenger pegs as leverage. Thanks again (it blows my mind anyone would click "thumbs down" on this video. lol I can't see any other way of explaining this technique).

It sounds like you may be trying to rock it back instead of pushing straight down and lifting straight up. Also, make sure both feet of the centerstand are on the ground before you start lifting. If one of the feet are off the ground will easily topple over.

Great tips! Word of caution tho: if you use the second method to get the bike off the center stand, you might consider putting the side stand up first. That way, there is no danger of the side stand crushing the top of your left foot when the bike comes off the center stand. I saw a guy break bones that way..

I'm not a big man. I had a BMW R90S in 1976 with both side and center stands. I don't recall there EVER being a problem getting it on or off the center stand. It was not something you actually thought about. It was so effortless that I'm surprised there's even a video to provide instructions. Like a 'how to blow your nose UA-cam'.
As far as I recall, I just stepped on the rocker with all my 150 pounds and pulled both handlebars, up it went.

Yes, that's how I always did it, but my latest bike, a 1988 Honda CBR600F just would not come "over centre" on to the stand. Using the method in the video its a piece of cake! I'm not large; 5' 7-1/2" about 170lbs and 72 years old, so I don't have the strength I did 40 years ago. I can do it effortlessly now woohoo! :-)

I have a multistrada, and I always used to use the grab handle to put it on the centre stand. One day someone pointed out to me that the rear seat frame would probably work better - I tried it, and he was right. Both for getting the bike onto and off of the centre stand, the frame to the rear of the seat is better positioned for control and leverage, and it actually works much easier. For getting off the centre stand, using the rear frame, it is possible to first rock the bike back and down onto the rear shock - it then pops up and forward off the centre stand with nearly no effort at all, and totally under control. Give it a try.
