I’m 6 feet tall,175 lbs and quite strong but simply did not know the technique. After riding Harley’s for the past 20 + years I simply forgot, if I ever really learned. Based on my earlier experience of trying to get my recently purchased F6B on the center stand it appears I never really knew how. After trying I few times I settled for the kick stand over blowing a gut. Half way through your video I paused it and went to the garage and applied your teachings. I’ll be damn!! It worked. So, I took it off and tried again and it was even easier. Thank you for saving me from making a trip to the corner drug store for Preparation H....
Ever have more luck putting it on the center stand? I've got an 03 and I'm six foot and two hundred pounds and even following all these methods and using a board it's still a bear to get on the center stand and I've worked construction all my life and still in great shape. My 03 does not go on the center stand like they show. I'm now waiting on an easy off center stand and hope that will help me!
@@BeauGeste49 No. I'm still convinced that some bikes are easier than others to get up on the center stand. Certainly the right technique helps, but that doesn't mean the right technique makes every bike easy to get up.
THANK YOU! I was about to call the guy I bought my 2010 Goldwing from and ask how in the world he did it 😂. Much easier now knowing the proper technique! Thank you for sharing! Merry Christmas!
I knew there was a truck to that, I didn't know the trick. I can set my Suzuki 450 on the center stand. My goldwing, I had help. I blamed it on it was on the lawn, maybe. I still thunk it should have been easier.
You're a lifesaver. I was trying to get my new Goldwing on the centre stand in my garage today and simply gave up. Just watched your video and thought it can't be that easy so went back to garage to try and I can't believe how simple it is! Also love the tip to turn right before taking it off (which is now way harder than getting it on the stand 🤣😂). Why don't they publish this technique in the owners manual?
I've tried every method shown, but I still can't get my Goldwing on the center stand. I did discover that, if I run the rear tire up on a 2 x 6 I can easily get it up on the center stand. That 1.5" extra height makes a big difference!
a lot easier on a slick level surface. tried it on my uneven driveway and it was a struggle. went to the h. depot parking lot, and no problem. guess I have to repave my driveway!
Can't roll it back in gear. Always neutral. Same with coming off, that's important, it could catch, stop and tip if you don't let it roll the 12-18" it needs to.
My suggestion for a less scary or risky method to take it off the center stand: Mount the bike while it's on the center stand using the left foot peg to climb aboard - the peg and stand are plenty strong and the bike won't tip. Then stand up with both feet on the ground, briefly lifting your butt off the seat, and just push the bars forward. You can then deploy the side stand like you normally would from your riding position.
Oh, I wish it was a simple as this! My '03 is absolutely NOT easy to put on the centerstand. I have struggled with it many times and nowadays only do it when I MUST have it on the centerstand. Don't get the idea I'm a lightweight. I'm 5'11", 230 pounds. I do everything I can think of that would help: rear shock set to 25; front tire aligned with the centerline of the bike; transmission in neutral; both feet of the centerstand evenly contacting the floor; apply my bulk to the foot pedal while lifting on the grab bar. For added assistance, I will pull rearward using my left hand on the Texelent Bar mounted between my handle bars. Even with doing everything properly, and this video confirms that, I have to get very aggressive and rock the bike a bit to get it up on the stand. Aggressiveness is also required to get it off the stand. I put the kickstand down, stand on the RIGHT side of the bike, and rock the bike to get it off the centerstand. I haven't needed the safety measure of the kickstand down to catch the bike yet, or even know if it would help in an emergency, but I guess it gives me the warm fuzzies. I prefer to have the help of someone to assist me, but that's not always possible I was at a friend's house where we were going to replace my crazed windshield with one he gave me (yes, I have very generous friends). As he prepared to put the my bike on the centerstand, I warned him it was going to a challenge. After he made the first attempt and failed, I jumped in and helped him. He said, "Wow, that was tough! I have never seen one so difficult." It was nice to have the affirmation, but I would rather it work like "... any GoldWing since the dawn of time."
Here are things to check: Are you the original owner? 1. If not, did someone change the linkage (dogbones) on the bike to lower it for a shorter rider? 2. Did someone put a car tire on the bike? If neither of those things are on the bike, then I would suggest the centerstand is bent and should be replaced.
Thank you, Max. The 'both feet of the center stand on the ground' tip has certainly made this doable. It will be remembered :) A bit doubtful that I will ever make it look as swift and easy as you do but then again I've made a few more laps around the sun than you have. 72 years old, 5'8", 155 lbs with a 2021 DCT Tour
Watched a couple of these videos and thought I could do it, wrenched my back trying so I watched the ones that said “you are doing it wrong “ and would swear I was doing it right. BUT…I was putting rearward pressure on the grab bar instead of pulling straight up while I stepped on the center stand tang. I couldn’t believe how simply it went onto the stand then. Now it’s just as easy for me as the video. Thank you!
I liked and subscribed!! Thanks to the thorough instructions you gave I can do this with very little effort on my CTX1300. Before I watched this I almost pulled a muscle.
GL1000, GL1100, GL1800 no problem. I saw a youtube where a guy has made an extension to "make the job easier". What?? The only advice I'd give is wear firm soled footwear.
Thank you so much, I have not had a bike for 20 years and i finally got my Goldwing. today after watching your video i put it on and off the centre stand (I was nervous) thanks for the assist.
If your bike has been lowered, or has a smaller profile rear tire, that would make it harder. But sometimes, as riders get older, it's just too hard. There is a company that makes a product called the "Ride Off" centerstand, and I don't know if they make it for the 1500, but look into that. It's a replacement centerstand that is very very easy to get the bike up and down.... at least for the 2001-17 1800.
You can... I would say most prefer that. But they are usually rocking and rocking and beating on the centerstand. If you aren't comfortable doing it from the side, then I recommend being over the top of it like you suggest.
Thanks for great information. I tried your technique 4 times on my 2022 Goldwing with no rear storage compartment. I still do not have enough lead in my rear end so I can pull it back, thanks
Im a new rider. Ive just got a CBF125 and cant put it on centerstand. Ill keep trying, but it feels like to no avail lol. I do have both feet down, Im not afraid, I can feel its stable. I HAVE got all of my bodyweight onto it. (All 110 lbs of me lol) to the point where Im standing one footed on the centerstand dangling in the air lol
Max - great video. I do this frequently with my bike. I will suggest (not entirely sure if you mentioned it) that it is a good idea to wear something on your feet with a good solid sole to protect your right foot from the pressure of the center stand. I did it once with sneakers on and my foot was quote sore for days afterward. So good solid footwear is important. Never attempt in sneakers or soft soles would be my two cents worth.
This is really good information. I think the lever designed into the stand for your foot gives the mechanical advantage. And supports why both stand tips must be touching for it to work. I will let you know if I am successful!
hey man, great work. new fan, do you have repair vids on your channel?prospective f6b 15/16 year buyer here and wana know what i am gna get myself into. thank you sir!
Just a few... I try not to do redundant stuff, unless I have a "much better way". Fred Harmon has a great video series you can buy on DVD for like $50 that shows a decade worth of "how to" on the previous gen bikes.
I've had my 08 GW on the side stand for the past 3 years because I struggled to get it on the center stand. Another issue I heard about was not having your bike on carpet but on concrete or other solid surfaces. In my garage, my bikes are on carpet and I didn't want to remove it just so I can get the GW on the center stand. I noticed you didn't mention carpet making it more difficult, so can I presume it doesn't matter? Maybe it will be easier without the carpet, but I figure if it's just a little harder then that would be OK with me. I can't wait to try this. Thanks for the instruction.
I have another video, where I put the bike on the centerstand with 2 riders on it! Carpet doesn't matter at all, not sure who told you that. Give it a try!
My 1200 is missing a center stand spring and it's backbreaking to get it up on the center stand and back down. Makes every other bike feel easy though.
The spring is only there to hold the stand up in the closed position. It does nothing to help raise the bike onto the stand. You might try raising the rear of the bike artificially by air or spring preload on the shock.
Outstanding! I've had smaller bikes with a center stand and had no problem. Since I got my '15 Goldwing, I've struggled for the exact reason you said, I would panic that it was going to fall away from me. Now I know the secret. Thank you, sir, for this awesome instructional video.
You make look way too easy. Outside of not getting the stand on both feet, I found that I will pull on the handle bar grip and get the wheel turned making it impossible to do. Just got a F6b and it takes me 4 or 5 attempts to get her up. But when I do succeed It does seem easy.
I am suffering two broken bones in my foot from lifting my f6b onto the center stand. I am a very experienced biker and put a lot of bikes onto the center stand . I will try again as soon as I heal.
Key word is lowered... once you lower a bike you take the centerstand out of its correct range of leverage. You won't be able to use it again, unless you are at home. You can get a piece of 2x10 or 2x12 and cut a bevel on one end. Roll the bike back up onto it so that the wheel just barely gets on. Then you can put the centerstand down on the ground and lift the bike to work on it or clean it, etc.
I would suggest putting your heel instead of your forefoot on the center stand to push down. This avoids stressing you Achilles tendon so much. Met a guy that tore his putting an older goldwing up.
People hurt their arms, backs, ankles, knees, and rectums trying to put Wings on the stand improperly. They are afraid to stand the bike up vertically, so they fight to lift the bike up on one foot, and then injure themselves. Happens all the time... thus the point of this video. Watch the other video I did where I lift 2 adult males sitting on the bike. I weight 157. It's all in the technique.
The guy I got mine from weighed 50 lbs more than me and said he never messed with trying to get it up on the center stand. I tried many times with a 1 in 5 success rate. Watched your video and used your technique and now it’s easy. Thanks for the knowledge shown here!
Is there a way to get it on the ctr stand for someone with back problems that can't put more than 10lbs strain on their back? My back is shot but I still ride.
I'm on a 2008 GL1800 at 5'10" 208lbs nearing 70yrs old, and have just one comment regarding shoes. I used to be able to toss my bike up on the center stand with any footwear even flip-flops, however.. many years later I have to use hard soles, or better yet my riding boots on in order to keep that stand pad from hurting my foot. In soft shoes I can _still do it_ , but then say "damn that hurts".
Many people do that, it's fine. It's hard on the centerstand over time to have the bike loaded and a rider on it rocking it and jacking all that weight against it trying to get it roll forward. But a lot of people feel safer that way and that's what counts.
i was taught how to do this back in the mid 80"s buy a honda sales man named ricky at al"s cycle shop. i use to blow peoples mind by puting there bikes on the center stand an not tell them how i did it. they thought i was superman.
I cannot put it up on stands. Was it the pull on the handle or side handle that help? Also the step, is it a gentle pressure or a sudden stomp that works better.
Everything. Not a stomp, but strong pressure. Your body weight should do most of the work. Put all of your weight on the pedal. Pull up with your right hand. If the bike doesn't go right up easily, you don't have both feet of the centerstand on the ground.
My newest bike is '13 R1200GS LC BMW and the ease of centerstand use is directly related to the "rear shock electronic settings." Two Helmet setting lifts the rear shock preload and the centerstand is easy. One Helmet setting lets rear ride 1.8" lower empty and the centerstand is twice as hard to use.
Man!!!! Thank you... The key is to practice and get confident with it, and you did an amazing job focusing on getting comfortable with the bike... After my 3rd try, I was able to get it on the stand... It's been almost a year now, and I'm almost as good as you... Thank you.
grazie di cuore. Hai risolto un mio grande problema e mi hai liberato dalla paura ogni volta che dovevo mettere la moto sul cavalletto centrale. Grazie
Best video ever!! I've ridden for over 30 years, but coming from sport bikes the center stand thing was new to me. This video took the mystery out of it. A++
I have a 03 vfr and I'm 5'6 125 lbs soaking wet it's not an easy bike to put on the center stand and is it possible that I'm doing everything right but just not strong enough? Is it possible that something wrong with the bike would make it more difficult?
These are good questions... I don't think it's not because you aren't strong enough... I suppose being a bit shorter as well might put your arm a little higher. As far as your bike, the only thing that would affect it to make it harder would be if the bike had been lowered for a shorter rider, or if there is a lower profile rear tire than stock on it. I have another video where I lift 2 riders sitting on a Goldwing by myself!
@@Traxxion hey I took a step back put on some boots with thick soles and grabbed lower I was able to get it on the stand right after posting. I forgot to edit my comment. Now I do struggle with it is its even a little slope. I don't always have perfect ground to work on. Thank you for the reply. I think my key was grabbing lower
I'll try again. I'm 5'5" and 130#, with a pretty slight build. On a 1996 1500, even when I put my full weight on the stand lever (with both stand legs down), and lift on the rear handle with all my strength (not even touching the handlebars), it will not "go over" the pivot point. If I roll the bike onto a 3/4" piece of wood, it slides up like cake. I just can't get it to go "up and over" without a little extra lift off the rear suspension. But I've never dropped it, so there's that. ;-) 40+ years of riding Gold Wings, and haven't dropped one in the last 20+ years.
I was able to do it twice with my 110 lbs 5'2 body, (150 cc scooter) once Both feet on the stand was touching the ground. I was Super Frustrated because I saw tons of "easy" ways to do this and none worked but None of them talked about two feet firmly planted on the ground. I don't know why That should make such a big difference but it did for me. Thanks.
My new GL1800 DCT arrived today (5th March) and after putting it up on the centre stand I realised that it was much easier than my old 2016 wing. I think it is also more of a matter of confidence and applying the correct technique as described in your video.
I put my GW on center stand with my wife on it when I go into a store to get drinks on a ride. It makes it more comfortable for her and easier for me when leaving. I only use the side stand to hold the bike up while I put it on center. Center stand really is this easy.
Another great video! I was getting ready to install highway pegs and I have not put a bike on a center stand since my 86 Wing over 20 years ago. After watching this video, boom went right up on the first try without much effort! Thanks again!
Best video in Youtobe about this topic. One question - I have motorbike with manual gearbox. During puting my bike off the centerstand - should I have bike on gear (and cover the clutch lever) or in neutral ?
@@jerzygroclinek5066 I would still use neutral, but use the front brake if I needed to control it in some way. It's not going to roll off or go anywhere, they pretty much just drop and stay put.
One tip I can add is having on a good pair of work boots or riding boots with stiff soles makes things a little more comfortable on the ball of your foot. With soft soled shoes, the center stand lever can leave a bruise. I take an aspirin every day, and seem to bruise easier than in my younger days. Oh, and thanks for all your helpful videos, Max. I finally got a new airbag DCT model from Niehaus, and will be picking it up when the weather clears.

You make look way too easy. Outside of not getting the stand on both feet, I found that I will pull on the handle bar grip and get the wheel turned making it impossible to do. Just got a F6b and it takes me 4 or 5 attempts to get her up. But when I do succeed It does seem easy.
Practice makes perfect!
Can't wait to see how people respond to me doing this so easily, a blonde in her 20's, haha! Jokes aside, thank you so much for sharing!
You're so welcome!
I am suffering two broken bones in my foot from lifting my f6b onto the center stand. I am a very experienced biker and put a lot of bikes onto the center stand . I will try again as soon as I heal.
Hate to hear that! Good luck with the healing!
I have a lowered 2013 triumph trophy and for the life of me I still can't get this up using your method
It’s not easy for me., I am 5 10. 240 pounds, It can tip over, I have, twice,
ua-cam.com/video/YBXhlK604Vw/v-deo.html
I am going to wait for the push button hydraulic centre stand.
Sounds like a good idea. The sled (bikes) have them
I would suggest putting your heel instead of your forefoot on the center stand to push down.
That is awesome!
Check out the "Super Thanks" button, it's a way to support this channel with a few dollars!
Is there a way to get it on the ctr stand for someone with back problems that can't put more than 10lbs strain on their back? My back is shot but I still ride.
Not that I know of. There is something called a "Ride Off" centerstand that is supposed to be pretty easy.
Great information thanks
Helpful. Thanks!
I've tried but I still haven't accomplished the technique.
Have someone stand on the other side of the bike so you aren't afraid of dropping it.
I always mount the bike to take it off center stand, complete control of bike when it comes down.
Many people do that, it's fine. It's hard on the centerstand over time to have the bike loaded and a rider on it rocking it and jacking all that weight against it trying to get it roll forward. But a lot of people feel safer that way and that's what counts.
i was taught how to do this back in the mid 80"s buy a honda sales man named ricky at al"s cycle shop. i use to blow peoples mind by puting there bikes on the center stand an not tell them how i did it. they thought i was superman.
haha!
And you wife????😂😂😂😂
Do you sell parts for a 2002 1800cc Goldwing?
We have a line of suspension and chassis parts for the 2002. www.traxxion.com
Awesome video! I did it on the second try. It's all technique, not strength.
Bingo!
Very well commuunicated! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
what a great piece of advice it will certainly help me thank you very much thanks for your time
No problem!
Very nicely done. I'll still hop on the bike and rock it off the center stand though when I'm ready to take off. Old habits die hard.
Nothing wrong with that method!
Impossible for me lol
Good video. I'm 72 years old and 145 lb. I got my Gl1000 on the stand. Not as easy as you but thanks for the help.
Great!
The only reason this could be hard is if someone has changed the tire size or lowered the suspension on the bike.
Good point.
Tried it on my 99 and 06 still difficult. I am 6' 3 265 lbs.
Be sure the front wheel is perfectly straight.
When you push down on the center stand pad, make sure you are pushing STRAIGHT down. Any angle makes it much harder.
Took bike out on the highway and about 10 miles down the road the drive train started slipping. 87 gl 1200. ???
Clutch.
I believe it’s air trapped in the lines.
Since my 2010 has a Traxxion "full Monte" I first set the suspension at '25'. It makes a HUGE difference.
Man!!!!
Thank you... The key is to practice and get confident with it, and you did an amazing job focusing on getting comfortable with the bike... After my 3rd try, I was able to get it on the stand... It's been almost a year now, and I'm almost as good as you...
Thank you.
Glad it helped!
I don't have a goldwing yet but when i do, i know how to use the center stand
These tips also apply to all brands with a center stand. Good luck!
Thank you
grazie di cuore. Hai risolto un mio grande problema e mi hai liberato dalla paura ogni volta che dovevo mettere la moto sul cavalletto centrale. Grazie
Sono molto felice per te!
Best video ever!! I've ridden for over 30 years, but coming from sport bikes the center stand thing was new to me. This video took the mystery out of it. A++
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks
I sit on the bike and rock it forward to get off the center stand….
That works too.
@@lawrenceshraybman621 Good news!
It’s really great and easy education , Honda company should consider this for you 😉
I'll try again.
Nice video, I wish I have watched it before I almost hurt myself a few months back when I got my bike.
I learned this when I bought my '83 GL1100 in '92. Now with my bigger '89 GL1500 it's a piece of cake. I'm 71 years young by the way. 🙂
Thanks.
Thank u. I've only owned my GW for a week. This was a huge help!!
Great to hear!
Thank You for this video !
My pleasure!
Pro tip: put it in reverse then jam the center stand down 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Dump the clutch in Reverse!
@@Traxxion 🤣🤣 yessir
Are you kidding me!!!!! That was the easiest thing I've ever done!!! Thanks!!!!
#Traxxion. Thanks Max.
Thanks again!
worked 1st try thanks Max!
Great!
Best video in Youtobe about this topic. One question - I have motorbike with manual gearbox. During puting my bike off the centerstand - should I have bike on gear (and cover the clutch lever) or in neutral ?
I recommend neutral, because some bikes "drag" even when the clutch is pulled in, which will make it harder to put the bike on the centerstand.
@@Traxxionbut my question concerns geting motorcycle OFF the centerstand
@@jerzygroclinek5066 I would still use neutral, but use the front brake if I needed to control it in some way. It's not going to roll off or go anywhere, they pretty much just drop and stay put.
@@Traxxion Thank You very much !
I absolutely agree. I bruised my right foot one time, but I was wearing flip-flops. A good set of boots and it's like magic.
