@@CampusautoCo Hi! you're stating in your video that the Toyo Open Country MT looks different on each side, and it would have different profiles so the owner can choose which look to prefer and pick one. but does the tyre really have different side profiles? it doesn't look like in your video and I can't find anything about it on the official toyo homepage either referring to @11:25
I have KM3’s and don’t have a bad thing to say about them, great on wet muddy rocks and on the beach, quiet on the road and still plenty of grip in the rain, I’ve done 20 000km on them and they still are holding up fine
@@pedroelizarraraz3145- they are relatively quiet for mudders I’m closing in on 50k miles on mine and they are getting lauder but still have great tread left I’ve rotated them regularly but have pushed them hard on and off road
Bfg km3 are by far the best tires I have used for offroading. Theyre pretty good on road as well, very quiet for a mud. Downside is that they are not cheap.
Surprised that Yokohama Geolandar M/T wasn’t in the bunch. A highly rated tire that’s similarly priced to the Firestone M/T. Enjoyed the comparison on all these higher end tires. Would like to see a comparison on the budget friendly M/T tires.

I have bfg mt 2 with about 30 km on them on a 2700 lb tracker . They are 80 percent and work well. Friends with duratrak do just about as well in mud and better everywhere else .
I bought a set of BFG’s and the first week a bubble formed on the sidewall, and no one would warrant them, I was so mad I gave them away, and bought , Goodyear, which lasted a long time and performed great on. everything,
Great video, and absolutely SAVAGE in parts! I cam here 'cause I didn't know what tyres I should get for my 1994 Toyota Hilux, and I think you helped me settle on the Generals! Cheers from Australia!
Funny thing... This weekend I couldn't even go up a simple fresh dirt hill, with lockers on, wheeling with my 20-k mile Grapplers. Time for new tires.
@@CampusautoCo And also, you got the side walls wrong. The "aggressive side" has the centre lugs "peaked", or "v" shaped if you like for better side grip in ruts... the other side has them flat.
Really enjoyed the video and the in depth look at the tread. Don’t know why everyone has something negative to say all the time. I personally run BFG ko2’s on my ram 1500 since I live in the desert and hardly see much mud. If I ever were to buy mud tires, it would have to be the Toyo’s. Great video
Thanks for the info. I’m going to get a set of the Firestone’s for my F250 up here in North Dakota. We mostly have mud and sand, very little rock. Plus, Walmart sells them.

Mall cruisers do not need soft rubber so having real durometer numbers can further help people decide what tires are best for them for their usage Subbed now.....
The Kumho Venture A/T 51 is an all terrain tire with a soft compound that is quite nice, even in snow, though deep mud might be a bit much. My second favorite tire after Falken Wildpeak A/T3W all terrain.
If comparing Mud Terrain style tires, and Kuhmo, then the Kuhmo Road Venture M/T KL71 has been quite and smooth on the pavement; yet soft and aggressive enough to perform have well off-road the last two years on our 07 JK. Just know that they are directional tires.
Thank you for going over the features. I too have my favorite but it was not listed, the Mickey Thompson MTZ. A real test would be a typical trail mud test. I don't mean mud bogging, but a trail with sticky clay kind of conditions, some real world overlanding challenges for each tire. I am a Toyota guy, but I know it makes the most sense to test the tires on Jeeps with open differentials as that is a larger market.
I'd gladly take a set of duratrac over half the stuff you had up there, all but the toyo. Those are amazing tires and probably my favorite too bad they aren't cheaper.
Ended up here tire hunting. Great review on all these however Toyo lost a customer permanently with me. Had a set of toyo RT on my Ford excursion. They became very choppy and uneven and kept throwing weights and going out of balance. Had my suspension system looked over and alignment and all was good there. I only got half the life out of those tires because they became very rough and unbalanced to the point they couldn't be balanced. Because they did make it to half life toyo wouldn't honor any warranty on the tire even though they had a 50 to 55,000 milage rating. Very disappointing. Also would like to add most of driving is on road and only purchased to have the tread when I need it.

Great video! As for the KO2s, I have them on my 2017 Ford Raptor with 25k miles and already need new tires. I don’t think this is common, but I’m changing tires anyway. I’ll see how well the KM3 performs.
The tires that should be up there are the Patriot tires by the Diesel brothers, i have them on my truck and they are amazing, i have a F-350 that weighs almost 9,000 pounds, i have put over 30,000 miles on the them and they still have over half tread life left in them, very quiet on the road as well, they are 37x13.50x20

What mud terrain tire would be your choice for a 2021 Ford Ranger Lariat FX4 that would be driven mainly on surface roads? The purpose for buying mud terrain is for the appearance. I'd prefer one that's relatively quiet on the highway.
MT2! Firestone mt2s I have a set and I've pulled lots of stuff out! Bad ass tires and low road noise! And the mileage is way way better then the nittos I promise! Cost the same and will out perform!
@Jim Barrows of course one hater. I understand so did Ford with their metal straps on the gas tanks. Yeah. But the thing is that they have changed their ways and are on top of the game
I am running these on my 1982 FJ40. It seemed like everyone had KM3s and I just wanted something different. I have been very impressed so far and they are relatively quiet up to 65mph where I pretty much max out anyway.
I’m looking to purchase the km3 but do live in a region where we have snow/ice in the winter. If I got these tires siped, would they perform adequately/safely in winter with careful driving?
Hey, out of curiosity - re the falcon wildpeaks. I was going to buy them however decided against it a couple years ago. Now I'm looking for another tire upgrade and have again recently considered purchasing them now due to the fact that I have several other friends of mine, including a mechanic friend who runs them on his diesels. He says they outlast the BFGs by a wide margin, 50k miles on them and still over 1/2 tread on his duramax. I was with him when we were plowing through 20" of snow last winter they seemed to perform reasonably well in that... Also my brother just bought a set for his Tundra and towed 9000lb all through the hot summer with them (hwy mountain driving), he said they did great - They are several hundred $$ cheaper. I was just curious if you can go into a bit more detail as to why you wouldn't buy them, as it sounded like you had your mind made up on them I was wondering what were some of those reasons as to why?
When it comes to PRICE, I think the General Grabbers take the cake! Almost HALF The Price of the KM2's! If I were wealthy, I'd buy the BFG's without a second thought!
If you do another test - we'd love for you to check out our Radar Renegade R7 MT - for a budget price point, look and performance it fits the bill for many consumers!
Which MT is quieter on the road? Grabber X3 or the BFG KM3? I have a set of Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 and they are louder than I expected for a hybrid. The other option is to go with a Milestar Patagonia which people are raving about on YT. Thanks.
@@CampusautoCo If it is ok... Is the X3 a lot louder than the KM3 or just a bit more? Thanks. I like both tires a bunch. I have run the KO2s but never tried a General MT. I should also mention I live in the northeast so we get lots of snow, ice, slush, and rain. So my MT will need to avoid hydroplaning and skidding.
And I can see just how much mud is all over the cars in your shop, bet none of those SUVs are wearing any of the "Mud" tires you mentioned please tell us info on so called "all terrain tires" please.
You mentioned Toyo tires for 3/4 and 1 ton trucks for towing. How many miles will the last? I have a regular job 15 miles away, cattle at home and more 25 miles away (opposite direction from work ). Sometimes we put 20,000 miles a year on the truck. But still need to get through mud to feed cattle in the winter and to load and unload cattle to haul back and forth between pastures. And diesel trucks are heavy. It doesn't take much to get stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you. My duramax is stock with 265/75/R16 BFG all terrain (slicks ) load range E.
Toyo MT is one of the heaviest built tyres. It is basically a truck tyre with mud tread. My mate was a Mickey MT fan until he bought a set for his 1ton. Following set went back to Mickeys and took them back for the Toyos. He said they handle the weight much better. They have real heavy sidewalls on them.
I'll take my ironman all country's over these over priced tires. 12k miles and not much wear. they handle great in all weather and awesome off road. and $860 mounted and balanced for 35x12.5x20 is a value.....my next set will be the 37's. they look just like the bfg km2's
Not informative, just stating an unqualified opinion is no more helpful than reading markets material. Real world experience and outcomes with these tires going trough the same exact terrain one right after the other, on the same or similar model vehicles could show us how they handle the terrain, which is what we want to know. Running them through severe mud conditions would show us if they work, how well they work and how they fail. Then a comparison over other terrain would help give us a better idea of what to expect from these tires. Then repeat all these tests every 10,000 miles to show which ones hold up under real world use and which ones fail, for any reason.
@@CampusautoCo Then the videos are useless, we can just look att eh marketing material and not ever need to watch any videos. The actual truth my friends is that the tires rarely match up with our expectations which is why we need actual real world tests to show that the tore can or cannot do what the marketing folks make us think that they can do. Marketing also does not tell us any of the weaknesses of the design compromise that they chose and marketing never tells us when they miss the mark and sell us defective tires (which is why such a huge number of tires have been recalled), so real world demonstrations are what makes UA-cam useful, if we use UA-cam as a platform to distribute unsubstantiated opinion then there is no use to visit here at all.
I would love to test the tires that way. Unfortunately, I don't have a budget for it yet. Production cost would be very high plus I'm just a small tire shop in Virginia. I do have a great vehicle to use though if I ever get to that point. I would love to film in Moab or on Black Bear Pass in Colorado too.
Billy Bob try buckshot II’s I’ve never had any issues with them they lasted almost 2 years at 20-30k miles a year, they dig in deep mud and sling it far, they’re good in snow and I run 31” tires and they’re very quiet my Toyo A/T’s are way louder but perform good and the buckshots are an excellent price for what you get.
@@boydboys9084 That sounds good. The reality is that I have put recaps (retreaded) winter tires on one of mot cars and not one person that drove it could tell that they were super cheap tires, so I suspect that most people really can't tell the difference. LOL Thanks!
Why do you not put Cooper tires in your videos or Mickey Thompson tires in your videos y’all may not carry but when testing those tires should be included
I'm not a recreational off roader. I am a deer hunter. If you hunt eastern North Carolina you know you have to get way off the trail for better bucks. What tire would you recommend. If it helps, my truck is a 2018 STX 4wd.
The nitto tire you have there looks like the Trail and not the terra. Agreed that the Terra is crap. Did you guys have a look at the MAXXIS RAZR? Thankful you left out the Cooper lineup as they are all crap in my book. I tried a couple and they are horrific white knuckle ride on wet pavement.
asptrooper: I totally agree, Just got my first awesome 4x4 and needed a little understanding of what to look for in a tire. I'd rather be educated and not go in blind getting 'holed in the sidewall'...

i have a set of at3 falkens. my prior tire experience is all i have. 5 sets of 5 BFG all terrains. my best tire ever. also ran 5 firestone mud down to nubs. both are outstanding tires. now to rate the Falken....low price but a top quality tire. great in snow on my Cherokee. and 33 in tires for 150 each delivered from amazon. try and beat that price on any of these tires. it is a price for 33's at a 31 in price. and for tire ratings....anyone purporting to rate them, needs to run each for 50K miles and then report back. otherwise is hot air, and all you can do is rate paper specs and price.i have stated my first hand experience on 3 brands of tires. paid for by me, and ran fully to wear out by me.
Those Firestone MT are growing on me. Just wish the side wall looked a little bit more aggressive..But tread design looks awesome! Also the General MT looks cool also! I had the KM2 before and i got way over 30k miles on them and probably could of went 50k miles out of them. However i feel like to many people have the KM3. I want something different no one really has.
Only thing missing from most tyre reviews is the road noise factor. I know he touched on it briefly in this video, but for me, a decibel rating would be a great addition to any off road tyre review. Great video, thorough & unbiased.
I ran the Red Clay Rally last year on Falken Wildpeaks AT3s. Guess who didn't get stuck on the same trail as my teammates?? This guy. Guess who did? A 4Runnner with Coopers STTs and BFG KMs. Just saying!!!!! I drive a slightly built Second Gen Tacoma. I'm sticking with the Falkens. But good review!! Even though you hated on my Falkens!!! lol
Falken has the thickest sidewall so you can run them at a lower psi and won’t cut them. They’re especially good here in Hawaii where we drive through very sharp lava fields.

From the Firestone destination mt and going to the right, what are the typical mileage you get with them? Thanks in advance.
I'm waiting for my Km3s to arrive. .....
Cool
When it comes to PRICE, I think the General Grabbers take the cake! Almost HALF The Price of the KM2's! If I were wealthy, I'd buy the BFG's without a second thought!
I agree!
Campus Automotive what’s your opinion on how well the KM3’s perform on wet roads?
They are the best in the group.
If you do another test - we'd love for you to check out our Radar Renegade R7 MT - for a budget price point, look and performance it fits the bill for many consumers!
I would love to test that tire. Send me a set and I'll mount them up on my Jeep and do a proper review and comparison!
thanks for sharing this information
Which MT is quieter on the road? Grabber X3 or the BFG KM3? I have a set of Mickey Thompson ATZ P3 and they are louder than I expected for a hybrid. The other option is to go with a Milestar Patagonia which people are raving about on YT. Thanks.
KM3
@@CampusautoCo Thanks!!!
A lot of good info, great video 👍🏼
Appreciate it!
And I can see just how much mud is all over the cars in your shop, bet none of those SUVs are wearing any of the "Mud" tires you mentioned please tell us info on so called "all terrain tires" please.
Did you want me to film a video in a dirty shop? I take pride in keeping my shop clean. See my other videos for All Terrains.
You did a great job
Thank you!
What's up with Freeman Motors PDX?
It's an inside joke. They are my friends.
Very good sir
Thanks and welcome
How much heavier are these tires compared to their AT counterparts...like the KM3 vs the KO2 or the Nitto MT vs their Ridge Grappler?
I'm not sure but I know that is a published spec that they usually put on their website or on tirerack.
If open country MT don't ride any better than the ATII does I wouldn't pay for it.
Agreed
I would say that 40,000 miles should be about right for most trucks. I think anything over that is outstanding.
The last two sets of Toyo's I ran on my 3/4 ton Dodge diesel, I got between 55k and 60k miles. They are great tires .
You keep calling the trail grappler a terra grappler lol
I did. That was a terrible mistake.
I had those tyres for 30 km and got rid of them because they are below par on wet bitumen.
Surprised you didn't include Mickey Thompson tires
More to come...
I'll take my ironman all country's over these over priced tires. 12k miles and not much wear. they handle great in all weather and awesome off road. and $860 mounted and balanced for 35x12.5x20 is a value.....my next set will be the 37's. they look just like the bfg km2's
Great information,,thanks
You're Welcome!
Billy Bob the engineers do that before the tire even hits the market. The great thing about youtube is you can give your opinion just like you can.
LOL Thanks!
How about the Yokohama geolanders?
I like them, I have them in a different video. Go check it out.
Why do you not put Cooper tires in your videos or Mickey Thompson tires in your videos y’all may not carry but when testing those tires should be included
I do have a couple of different videos on Cooper and MT
Can you do a review on budget MT tires
That sounds like a good idea. I'll get started with some ideas. Do you have any suggestions? Let me know. Thanks!
Nobody talks about Cooper discoverer SST pro.
Check out my newest video!
I'm not a recreational off roader. I am a deer hunter. If you hunt eastern North Carolina you know you have to get way off the trail for better bucks. What tire would you recommend. If it helps, my truck is a 2018 STX 4wd.
I would do either the BF Goodrich KM3, Hankook Dynapro MT2, or the General Grabber ATX if you want an AT.
What the best 12ply mud tire for a Ram 2500 ?
12 Ply? I'm not sure. On the 10 ply on a 2500 I would say BF Goodrich KM3. I think they will hold up longer on a heavy truck.
Mickey Thompson mt needs to be on the list
You are probably right. There are so many tires left out.
Should had put tires closer, would had shot closer
cool video
Thanks!
You are correct about the Trail Grappler. One of my guys just bought a new set of Maxxis RAZR and he loves them.
Good review. You spoke to the common guy like myself that doesn’t know a lot about tires. Thanks a lot.
asptrooper: I totally agree, Just got my first awesome 4x4 and needed a little understanding of what to look for in a tire. I'd rather be educated and not go in blind getting 'holed in the sidewall'...
Thanks for watching!
Where is Mickey Thompson, Dick Cepek, or Cooper tires?? I'm sure i forgot one or two??
"these are my favorite tire for the guy that wants to looks like he off roads but doesnt" hahaha love it! great video. still cant decide between km3 and grabber x3. but lots more information
I would go with the X3
I just put the km3s on my truck. Sunk it in mud 3 hours after I got it home and it barely spun. And I was trying to not spin, just crawl through it.
Too many mall crawlers here in FL too. Guys with snorkels and 22" wheels every aftermarket piece you can think of but never seen a piece of dirt
"Falken tire. These are my favorite tire for the guys that like falken. I wouldn't spend my own money on em" 🤣🤣
Michael D some good laughin to wrap up the video
I guess Jeep likes them. They are a stock choice on the Gladiator.
This was the best part of the video. I seriously loved it.
i have a set of at3 falkens. my prior tire experience is all i have.
Falken Wildpeak best AT out now.
I have the falken mt and I love my tires. Id buy them again. They work great in Glamis. Highly recommended
What kind of terrain?
I've ran Falken AT 2's and 3's and never blew one out, and i ran a few of them till the cords were showing. Excellent tires.
Right on
I have Firestone M/T's on my Jeep Wrangler from the factory. I'm not a big fan. They seem to be wearing fine but the ride is bumpy and they are noisy.
Only thing missing from most tyre reviews is the road noise factor. I know he touched on it briefly in this video, but for me, a decibel rating would be a great addition to any off road tyre review. Great video, thorough & unbiased.
I do want to do that and do some more real world testing. Stay tuned!
I have the Falken MT. it does great on rain and sand. Have not tested mud but im sure its great. the tread is one of the better looking ones
A lot of people either like them or dislike them.
Even though you hated on my Falkens!!! lol
"This is my favorite tire for guys who think that Falken tires are good". Loved that.
Lol
Falken has the thickest sidewall so you can run them at a lower psi and won’t cut them. They’re especially good here in Hawaii where we drive through very sharp lava fields.
It's a nitto trail grappler not a nitto terra grappler. The terra grappler is an all terrain
I'm sorry, you're 100% right.
And the Ridge Grappler
@@jasonbelch8344 the Nitto and Toyo are made at the same plant in Georgia, i work at the Ga. plant that makes them and can tell you that they are both built very well.
scott reynolds spot on. Quality of the 2 are the same. Idk how he rates a General Grabber over a Nitto. I got over 60,000 miles on my 35” trail grapps. Combination of upper NY state snow, OBX sand and highway from Florida to Canada. Wouldn’t buy anything else.
@@CampusautoCo The Nitto Terra Grappler is an A/T tire.
The Nitto Trail Grappler is a M/T tire and is the one displayed in this video. Would your comments be the same had you known this?
I have the Firestone destination mt2's on my Dodge 2500 I love them so far. Low road noise, and awesome in the mud and sand. I have no complaints so far plus they are affordable
Same truck same tire, I did get to use them here in Tx during the big freeze with the studs and they were exceptional! Pulled alot of emergency vehicles back on the road with them. Yes they great in mud too!
You tow with them?
Bfg m/t km2 had them 10yrs still on my truck half tread love um
I had the the destination m/t from firestone they are the best tires I have ever put on my yukon 96 had them on it 5 years and never have a flat on them , the best part about them is that most of the time I didn't even put the 4x4 on to get out of the mud ,highly recommend this tires though someone else my have different opinions on them .
thats good to hear, I just put these on my 93 k1500
Matt, love the review and the “Freeman Motors” comment. I also own Trail Benders Overland and we run the X3’s and love them. Keep up the good work!!
Right on!
Good video. Would like to see the Maxxis Razr and Cooper SST Pro as others have said.
I had Big O mud terrain on my jeep
I got a side wall hole while on a 4 wheeling trip
When i got home I went to the dealer for warranty and found out the tire tread pattern had changed
After discussing that I wanted matching tire the Big O dealer replaced all 5 of my tires no charge what so ever
My Big high 5 O to Big O 😀
That is truly impressive in this day and age!!! Kudos! -> Big O!!!
I wish I could like this review more than once, great job at explaining the technical features also great job on your verbal articulation of the tires. I was able to watch this in normal speed and enjoy it.
Hi have KM3 50k and couting mybe more 20k
Thanks for taking the time to compare, I found your opinion valuable and you've obviously got a good amount of experience selling tires. Thanks!
Cheers for vid, I know you can’t do every tire, would have loved to have seen the new Maxxis Razr against these esp the General and KM3, cheers
SUBSCRIBED FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT AND EDUCATION. Love the honest comments.
Thanks!
I have the x3 and highly recommend them
The best tire video I’ve ever watched. Informed opinion with an solid explanation of features and comparisons between popular tires. Also, the Nitto comment was great.
Thank you!
“This is my favorite tire for a guy who has a lifted truck and doesn’t go off road.” Priceless!!! 😂😂🤣😂🤣🤣🤣
Lol
😂😂😂
Why would i take my everyday driver off road when i have a side by side and 4x4 quad? Idiot. Trucks suck ofd road compared to sxs people that still wheel trucks are too poor or too stupid to buy a sxs.
Gsfbffx Pdhhdf first learn how to spell 😂 second trucks off road great when set up right sxs’s break easier and need modifying to run the stuff a good truck could run
Just bought a 4wd Honda Pilot with those Grabbers already installed. Yay me.
Awesome!
