*Correction - First off I apologize for the misinformation on stating how the sizing works. It is metric in millimeters: Example 285/70R17 The section width (285) is the width of the tire from one sidewall to the other measured in millimeters. The aspect ratio (70) refers to the height of the sidewall, and it is 70% of the section width. So a 285/70 will be 285mm (11.20") wide with the sidewall height is 70% of the 285 section width which equals 199.5mm (7.85") of sidewall height. The bigger the aspect ratio, the bigger the tire's sidewall will be.
I put the passenger rated 285 70 17 ridge grapplers on my fj with venomrex wheels. Only lost .5 mpg. Nice ride and handled recent snow very well. Highly recommend
285/70r17 285/25.4 = 11.25 11.25x.7 = 7.75 side wall 17 wheel plus 7.75 plus 7.75 = 32.5 tall tire. 285 is the section width, next number is aspect ratio, what percent of the width is the sidewall. Times that by two, there are 2 sidewalls and add wheel. BOOM tire height

I don't know why people make p metric calculations complicated. When talking about the 295 tires being so different .... well they are! The first number is the tire width (XXX / 25.4) will give you how wide. example 295/25.4=11.614 (25.4 will convert any metric number to standard or vise versa 10mm /25.4=.3937, .3937*25.4=10). The second number is the aspect ratio which is just a percentage of the tire width. Take your width multiply that by the converted width and it will give you your sidewall height multiply this by 2 because you have sidewall above and below the wheel. so 295/25.4=11.614.....11.614*.65=7.549.....7.549*2=15.098. then lastly add your wheel diameter to this number and you will have your overall tire height sooo 15.098+20=35.098 this is much different than the 295/70-17 which is the same 11.614 wide but aspect ratio of 70 with a smaller wheel of 17 making it only 33.259 tall.
Good video... I'm running cooper STT Pro's 305-70r-16's, good tire but a bit noisy . Soon I'm going to try BF Ko2's, same size, and see how they work out.
Dan D. sorry somehow we’re not receiving notifications on these questions. Same here. I just went back to the KO2 from the Goodyear MTR because they started getting too loud and vibrating
What's the "Sweet Spot" in size that saves you the most money when buying tires and wheels? Also, I'd assume a "Mud" style is preferred when driving in snowy, mountainous driving conditions? Thanks for your help
Depends on what look and functionality you want on the truck. I'd say one size bigger than stock will be perfect without losing too much power, MPG and fit ok without rubbing but it also depends on what wheel you go with, whether stock or aftermarket
I suspect that the larger diameter 17-20 wheel the load ratings being E or even F has a lot to do with liability on manufacturers because many shops don’t know or care if they put a load C tire on a 2500/3500 truck that calls for E rated tire the overkill protects them from lawsuits
BF GoodRich KO 2 on a 2023 F150 Platinum off road pagage. The original tire size is 275/60/20. The KO 2 are 275/60/20 also. The door sticker air pressure is 35 psi. What air pressure should i run in the KO 2's ?
Thanks for a great video! I’m wondering what the Milestar Patagonia MT tires sizes compare with let’s say the Toyo Open Country. Both for 33” and 35”/LT315/70R17 (Patagonia) Thanks again!
Nice video brother, I'm looking for some off road tyres for my 2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn, it has 285/ 45r /22xl. I would like to go up a size, any suggestions. Not super aggressive though..Thanks bro.
We can once we have both those in stock at the same time but honestly that rarely happens. From experience with seeing both mounted, the 285/75 is more a tall skinny tire and the 295 tall with width because the sidewall is 12" vs 11.3" wide on the 285. I personally like the look of the 295 better but some like the taller/narrower look better. The KM3 is certainly slightly bigger all around than it's predecessor, the KM2. The 295 challenge is clearing the wheel wells. I had to really chop the front inner wells as well as BMC to clear them and that was with a 3" suspension and 1" body lift. Hope this helps
@@everydaybettereverydaystronger wow that's a pretty big jump. I'm not overly concerned. It's an expedition vehicle and not a daily driver. I'm more worried about capabilities, having fun and not getting a tire I won't be happy about. I've gone from 265/70 to 275/70. Currently 285/70. All in K02. Love that tire. I want a bit bigger than the 285/70. I feel like I can fit bigger. Got a 2.5" King lift, no body lift, SCS -10mm wheels, a CBI front bumper and a BMC. I'm thinking I could align it forward and if I have issues I could do some firewall tubbing.

Yea, I don't get the big wheel look. I'm old school when it comes to wheel/tire sizes for an off-road vehicle. Thicker sidewalls make more sense on a truck for ride and off road functionality not to mention they just look tougher.
What’s the difference between 17 and 18” wheels in terms of ride quality both on and off road? I got 18’s on my 4Runner but now I realize most owners run 17s on theirs.
I have a 2012 Xterra, with a 3inch lift, I like a nice width extending beyond the side about 2” which tire and wheel would you recommend. And will I have to use Wheel spacers to achieve this and will I have to trim anything in the Finder wall what your best suggestion of wheel and tire looking for a hybrid time I do like the ridge grappler
I don't recommend wheel spacers because how much wear they put on your bearings so go with an aggressive wheel with 4.5" or less backspace and -12 or more offset (-24). Typically Fuel, XD, Moto Metal wheels have those wider offsets. Hope this helps
The video showing the 295/70r17 MTZP3 on the 4runner, do you know if any modifications were done to the vehicle besides a lift? Thanks for all the info, great video!
Any chance we can get a comparison with toyo rt’s, I’d love a actual measurement of them in 305/70r16 along side the coopers stt pro and KM3 in the video
Hi if you want the "wide" look do you have to have wider wheels ( 9" or more)? if you have narrow wheels (7.5") will you get the bulge look, where the tire bulges out beyond the rims?I am looking to put BFG 305/70R16 AT on stock Hummer H3 rims with are 7.5" wide to get "bulge look" current tires are stock BFG 265/75R16 ATYour advice would be appreciated please
Is there a big difference between a 285/70r17 and a 305/65R17 in terms of on and off road performance? I'm gonna run BFG AT KO2s on my navara and can't decide which of the two dimensions to choose. Have been running 285s for about 10 years now and wanted a change.
Yes the 305 is way wider and could hinder your ability to fully turn all the way if they rub depending on wheel width/backspace/offset and how much suspension clearance you have. Also quite heavier than a 285. Wider tires offer better traction in cornering and float better in sand but not snow and will hydroplane quicker than a narrower tire but that also depends on tread pattern. Hope this helps
The formula to figure out size of tire? Just get a measuring tape, measure height and width...its not that hard. And honestly it's not hard to notice if a tire is a 33, 35, 37, or 40.
Excellent video , I have a question what is your feedback on BFgoodrich mk3 for a Ram 2500 diesel? Just installed a set today 37x13.50r18 E rated , heard some negative feedback about not lasting on diesel but I love BFGoodrich tires .
Enjoyed your vid , Ive got a Wrangler 392 on order (Black ) any day now delivery . Going to be mostly on road 2nd vehicle usage , Ive been thinking BF Goodrich KO2 35x12.5x 17, Mickey Thompson Baja Boss 35x12.5x17 or Nitto , do you agree ? My 2012 call of Duty has Goodyear 32 ish , came with it used , also garage queen lol , 20K miles only
305 is the metric width (12") and can apply to any tire regardless of their height. It's used quite often with 33" sizing but there other height sizes as well. Best bet is to check the true specs per tire manufacturer websites for more accurate sizing info.
Been considering getting the Falken R/T in a 285/65-20 for my next set, 34.8 11.7 same as 35/11.5-20. 2007 Dodge 1500 2” leveling kit, 2014 Ram 1500 sport wheels.
Older video so I sincerely hope I get a response. My truck is a 2017 F250 6.7L on stock 279/65R20. I'm looking to get 20x9 wheels rated for the weight of the truck. My tire guy is saying the best tire to go with is 295/65R20 and NOT the 35x12.5R20. He said the 295s carry the weight better and will not affect my towing ability like the 35s would. The truck is stock, will see a level, possibly a 4in in the future. Any thoughts on this? Looking at the BFG KO2 for tires.
Hey. My truck has stock tire size of 265/65r18. I wanted to get a 4in lift. What size tires would look right with that lift? I'm not going off road but would like a more aggressive tire look. Thanks
I’m looking to replace worn out Nitto Terra Grappler 305/ 55 R20 & looking at Ridge Grappler, you’re right. Ridge Grappler looks narrower (rounder). What are the widest 305/55R20 tires available?
Good video, so, I'm thinking of a 305/70r17 on my stock wheel (2004 3 inch lifted sequoia) which is 7.5 inch wheel? Work or not? Or? A 295/70r17 the tire is definitely going to be a km3

Most likely 285 or 295 but depends on your wheels offset as the more they stick out, the more likely they’ll rub. You can always trim out what’s needed to clear though. Hope this helps 🤙🏼
Just happened to run across your videos and I like your content and I hit that subscribe button!..... I wanted to ask your opinion on a tire set up that I want to put on my 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 4X4. My plan is just to level the truck and go with the ReadyLIFT front leveling kit with control arms PN 66-3086 and stick with the stock 20's from the truck. ReadyLift suggest a 285/60R20 and anything over a 285 to use the 1/2 spaces..... Ive seen videos where guys have put 305/55R20 on the truck with the leveling kit and it looks good....... I guess my question is what tire size and brand would you go with if you wanted an A/T that had that aggressive look and stood out on the truck but would not be off roading that much just a bad ass daily driver. (according to Readylift 33" Maximum tire diameter 33x11.50 for no rub on a 9" wide wheel with +12 offset)..... Look forward to your answer!

looking for recommendations on an 05 dodge 1500... thinking of going with 295/70/R17...dont want a skinny tire but i dont want the tire to "poke" out too much
It was nice to see you grab 3 identical tires but different sizes to help show the differences. When you start using multiple brands and multiple sizes it almost makes it a little more confusing in a way. And I feel if you're making a video solely about sizing, then continuously saying the brands and models is adding unnecessary information that clutters the message you're trying to get across and makes it all harder to follow.

Can you do a video on just 37 and the true size I bought a set of bfgs 37s for 17-in rim I was so disappointed to see that I was so narrow and it measured at 35.6
*Correction - First off I apologize for the misinformation on stating how the sizing works. It is metric in millimeters: Example 285/70R17
The section width (285) is the width of the tire from one sidewall to the other measured in millimeters.
Thank you for correcting yourself, was about to blast ya ;)

@Doug DeGrave nope snow and sand you want wider. That's why you deflate when off roading. Mud you want thin.
I suspect that the larger diameter 17-20 wheel the load ratings being E or even F has a lot to do with liability on manufacturers because many shops don’t know or care if they put a load C tire on a 2500/3500 truck that calls for E rated tire the overkill protects them from lawsuits
True and also the cost for each mold. Also E load will accommodate most trucks even though its designed for much heavier applications
Awesome video best video out there on different brands...thank you brotha for that...
🍻
BF GoodRich KO 2 on a 2023 F150 Platinum off road pagage. The original tire size is 275/60/20. The KO 2 are 275/60/20 also. The door sticker air pressure is 35 psi. What air pressure should i run in the KO 2's ?
Thanks for a great video! I’m wondering what the Milestar Patagonia MT tires sizes compare with let’s say the Toyo Open Country. Both for 33” and 35”/LT315/70R17 (Patagonia)
Thanks again!
My Ram 1500 was running a 305 55 20 I'm done ✔️ with 20s I'm going with 17s 285 70 17 or 315 70 17 depending what's on sale
If you could do a 33/12.5/15 comparison
I’m debating for my Toyota’s next tires
Mud and all terrain
Either one would be a good video .
Great videos
Unfortunately we only have the KM3 in stock right now in that size
Sorry it's not that common nowadays as most newer trucks have 17" or taller wheels
37x17x13.50 on my 15 f150 in a federal mt on a 6 inch pro comp lift very good tire so far been looking into x comp tire seen a few videos on them
what size tire and wheel combo would you recommend for towing a 5th wheel?
Nice video brother, I'm looking for some off road tyres for my 2019 Ram 1500 Longhorn, it has 285/ 45r /22xl. I would like to go up a size, any suggestions. Not super aggressive though..Thanks bro.
Going for gas mileage go with k02s on the 4 runner. Otherwise km3s. Great video. Thanks.
100% wish there were more lower load rated and lighter KM3s
Could you please do a 285/75R17 295/70R17 BFG KM3 comparison? Not sure which to choose for my 06 4runner.
@@everydaybettereverydaystronger that's a huge help. I really appreciate the input. Cheers
Feruhlphox also if MPG is a concern go narrower because I went from 17 to 15 when going from 285/70r17 to 295/70
@@everydaybettereverydaystronger wow that's a pretty big jump. I'm thinking I could align it forward and if I have issues I could do some firewall tubbing.
great video. I have a 2023 base bronco 4 door. tire size 255 70 16, i would like to keep the 16 inch rim. I have a 1965 airstream that i want to tow with it. I would like a better off road tire , any recomendations.
Yea, I don't get the big wheel look. I'm old school when it comes to wheel/tire sizes for an off-road vehicle. Thicker sidewalls make more sense on a truck for ride and off road functionality not to mention they just look tougher.
Absolutely 😎👍🏼
I would love to see you compare Mickey Thompson Baja ATZp3’s 315/70R/17 with other 35’s on the market!
Will do thanks Nicolas
Avoid those Baja atz’s they are completely useless in dirt that’s just a little wet
What’s the difference between 17 and 18” wheels in terms of ride quality both on and off road? I got 18’s on my 4Runner but now I realize most owners run 17s on theirs.
Less rubber with the 18s so will be slightly stiffer
What’s the conversion for a 245-65-17?
Just picked up a 2002 ford excursion limited with the V10, I'm running 26570 516s. In your opinion what is the biggest tire I can run on this truck.
Great video and thanks for putting it together for us to
view.
Right on thanks guys!
Yes they'll bulge on narrow/stock wheels as well just not like an aftermarket wheel that is wider. Those 305s will certainly achieve that
So in a word I require wider wheels to get the wider look on the tires? The stock wheels are not wide enough, is that correct?
@@everydaybettereverydaystronger Thanks man, my current set of STTs is load E so they are pretty heavy, about 62lb/tire.
The formula to figure out size of tire? Just get a measuring tape, measure height and width...its not that hard. And honestly it's not hard to notice if a tire is a 33, 35, 37, or 40.
What do you think of the pirelli scorpion all terrain plus tire?
Unfortunately we’ve never had an opportunity to run those as our distributor doesn’t supply Pirelli
I’m driving 295/70/18 nitto trail grappler, but I want to get toyo’s or Mickey Thompson, which one is the best option to keep the same size?
We prefer the Mickey's because they're lighter, less expensive, aggressive and will last similar mileage
My truck comes with 285 45 R22 tires. Can I fit 305/45R22, to my stock wheels?
Most likely but ask around on the truck forums 1st
Great video! What the biggest tire width wise I could fit on a 16" x 7" wide steelie for a bronco.
Well we've seen plenty guys mount 12.5" wide on stock wheels, even 35" x12.5"
Excellent video , I have a question what is your feedback on BFgoodrich mk3 for a Ram 2500 diesel? Just installed a set today 37x13.50r18 E rated , heard some negative feedback about not lasting on diesel but I love BFGoodrich tires .
Just for 37x14.5R15 toyo I love them they look like k5 is coming for you.
My 2012 call of Duty has Goodyear 32 ish , came with it used , also garage queen lol , 20K miles only
Love the looks of the Baja Claw. Compare it to the BFG TA MUD-TERRAIN KM3 and Goodyear Wrangler MR/R.
Hey brother what is the difference on 33 and 305inches tires which is bigger
305 is the metric width (12") and can apply to any tire regardless of their height. It's used quite often with 33" sizing but there other height sizes as well. Best bet is to check the true specs per tire manufacturer websites for more accurate sizing info.
Been considering getting the Falken R/T in a 285/65-20 for my next set, 34.8 11.7 same as 35/11.5-20. 2007 Dodge 1500 2” leveling kit, 2014 Ram 1500 sport wheels.
those look like nice tires! We haven't ran those yet
True the 35x12.50 is a touch wider and tire towing ability will be determined by the amount of plys and load rating
How about the Falken Wildpeak AT3W?
We need to get those in stock! Seems to be a popular tire now as well
Great tire!
Hey. My truck has stock tire size of 265/65r18. I wanted to get a 4in lift. What size tires would look right with that lift? I'm not going off road but would like a more aggressive tire look. Thanks
It's ridiculous it's like these tyre manufacturers said "right now how can make these sizes as confusing and complicated as possible"
I have f150 2016. what would be the perfect tire size for my truck 🛻
We need more videos like this.
Please compare KM3 315/70R17 with 35x12.5R17
I’m looking to replace worn out Nitto Terra Grappler 305/ 55 R20 & looking at Ridge Grappler, you’re right. Ridge Grappler looks narrower (rounder). What are the widest 305/55R20 tires available?
The Nitto Trail Grappler and Toyo Open Country MT will look the widest but also will depend on how wide a wheel you run
Good video, so, I'm thinking of a 305/70r17 on my stock wheel (2004 3 inch lifted sequoia) which is 7.5 inch wheel? Work or not? Or? A 295/70r17 the tire is definitely going to be a km3
I'd go with the 295 personally. Slightly narrower and taller
I have a 2017 f350 xl with stock steel 18" x 8 " wheels and want to know what the tallest and widest size i can fit?
My brothers f250 fit 35x12.50 without rubbing
Great thank you, that's what i was hoping.
Yep 35s!!
Very very good and informative, thank you for doing that. Very helpful
Right on thanks!
I always use Tacoma world to calculate my tires 👍 285 falkens probably be 295s next time
How much lift you running? Be ready to do the BMC, but it's minor
Yeah I’m looking for the lightest 33 I can get.these Falkens have been great tho at3w
Matt W
Try General Grabber ATX or AT2 much lighter tires.
@@Matteo-xm6xo what tire did you end up going with, and are they much lighter?
Thanks
@@NateRobertson-jl4jm I haven't replaced them yet I did but the at3w have been great. Traction is best I've had and I drive on the outer banks in deep sand.still Interested in running lighter tires tho. I wish I would have got the 2957017 instead of 285. Ended up being a 32" tire
How much is the BF Goodrich tires i'm buying four of them and putting it on my 03 ford f250
some comparisons with 305/70/r17 mud tires. ?
What tire best looking and widest for r17?
What's the best size for a 2007 tundra crewmax on 20 inch wheels and 2 inch leveling kit
Could you do a video on 255 85 16 in M55 toyo actuall height 255 80 17 in tire height thank you good vidio cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Hey buddy sorry we don't carry that size unless it's ordered for a customer. Those will be tall/skinny looking for sure
I have a 2003 Dodge Durango. The stock tires on it are 245/70R16.
What I want to install are 305/70R16.
Can I do this without a vehicle lift kit ?
I have a 2002 ram 1500 stock lift and it has plenty of space with 305/70R17’s on it.
Have you done any test on the Milestar Patagonia MT and Maxxis Razr MT? I’m looking for daily MT in 35”-37” on my 16x10
No sorry havent seen either of those two here! I think it's mostly because TransAmerican, the parent company of 4WheelParts, solely imports the bigger brands out here and they are the only distributor in Hawaii. Even getting Cooper is difficult
I have 16X8 & I'm riding BFG KO2 285/75r16 now. Can I do a 315 75r16 or 315 80r16? I'm looking for height, 99 suburban & about to do RC 6in suspension lift soon.
I have some 265/60/20 what would be a good step up after i did a 3inch lift kit on my silverado?
I'd go with 35" tires with those 20" wheel like the 295/65R70 or a true 35x12.5R20
@@everydaybettereverydaystronger thanks
I have a dually with 17x6.5 front backside 8.83 129 offset rims; 17x6.5 rear backside -1 7/8 offset -140. I HATE the size tires i was sold....WAY to small. Whats the can i put 33's or 35's on those rims? I tow a 15-17k pounds fifth wheel at times so rubbing is certainly an issue. thanks
looking for recommendations on an 05 dodge 1500... thinking of going with 295/70/R17...dont want a skinny tire but i dont want the tire to "poke" out too much

Im lookim for a smoother ride i have 245 70 17 michelin on new f150 4x2. How big should i go to get a good soft offroad kinda tire
Those Michelin should be smooth already. Maybe you need new shocks?
first number is the width in milimeters and second number is the % of the first number
Yep exactly
325/60/18 or 325/65/18, 315/70ish, 35/12.5/18. I like the really wide tires
Us as well! I'll see what we have for those in 18s
Thanks 🙏 for making the video. What is a true A/T 35” tall tire that is 35 inches high and wider for a daily driver on a Jeep JL Rubicon
Depends on the wheel size?
I have a Lexus lx 570 I and trying to go 305/55r20 you guys think it will fit ?
Yes just will have to trim some plastic in the front fender
It was nice to see you grab 3 identical tires but different sizes to help show the differences. When you start using multiple brands and multiple sizes it almost makes it a little more confusing in a way. And I feel if you're making a video solely about sizing, then continuously saying the brands and models is adding unnecessary information that clutters the message you're trying to get across and makes it all harder to follow.
Thanks for the tips!
This video is super helpful
Thanks Shaun
I have a question if you can help me with I have a 2015 Ford F-150 lariat I have a front leveling kit I put 20x10 wheels on it with wildpeak 275/50r20 which are 31 to 32 height I’m planning to put a 3” bolt on lift I was looking to replace the tires with a 34” wildpeak tire what do you recommend thank you
