  • I have finally figured out a way to test wireless lav mics in a way where we can really see how they perform under the exact same conditions. The results are quite surprising to see which one of these reign supreme. Join me this week in THE ultimate wireless mic test of 2019-2020.

    *[FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS]*
*Q:* Why don't you recommend the Blink500 for Dual Audio? You never followed up.
*A:* This was totally my bad, I didn't realize I forgot that section. For people that want to use the dual audio setup, the Comica BoomXD would be the better options than the Blink500 because the Blink500 is not capable of splitting the Transmitters into their own separate stereo channels (left and right), it will just place both microphones into both channels make it harder to edit out the other speakers noises when they are not speaking. (Think like heavy breathing, accidentally touches the mic, hair or fabric rubs against mic...etc) So for people that'd like to have full control, or not, the BoomXD gives you that option as you can switch between mono or stereo split. The Blink500 can only do a mono split.

So glad this video was helpful! This is a "older" video so there are newer audio systems I've reviewed since then. I'll link them here for you in terms of what systems have replaced what.
Sokani Tiny is now replaced by Feidu FM40: ua-cam.com/video/Hf6eF9LDr0E/v-deo.html
Blink 500 is now replaced by Pro version: ua-cam.com/video/aAKe3kTUv4o/v-deo.html
My favorite UHF system thats also a great all rounder is the Boom XU - ua-cam.com/video/k6tDHGUb3f8/v-deo.html

I'm so glad you enjoyed this video and the info! A couple new wireless mics have come out since this video so my suggestions are a bit different now. Here are my reviews for each.
Feidu FM40 replaces the Sokani: ua-cam.com/video/Hf6eF9LDr0E/v-deo.html
Blink 500 PRO replaces regular Blink500, its also the best performing budget 2.4ghz: ua-cam.com/video/aAKe3kTUv4o/v-deo.html
Best Performing UHF is now the Comica BoomX-U: ua-cam.com/video/k6tDHGUb3f8/v-deo.html

It was really nice to follow The Adventures of Eddy Wilson all the way to the end. This very thorough review really helped clear up a bunch of the questions and concerns I was having with regards to acquiring a new wireless mic set. I already own a single set of the RØDE Filmmaker kit, but I was sort of on the lookout for something smaller and more flexible. Was seriously considering the Wireless GO, but I'd really love a 2 channel setup and don't mind having to EQ, so I think I'll end up with the Comica BoomX-D D2.
Thanks for your very solid work on this! Much appreciated.

      Hey hey QuaZ!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
So glad this video was helpful! Since this massive comparison, some new comers in the game are here to dethrone a couple of the spots. My reviews are here and what they replace.
      Feidu FM40 (500mhz) replaces the Sokani: ua-cam.com/video/Hf6eF9LDr0E/v-deo.html
Blink 500 PRO replaces regular Blink500, its also the best performing budget 2.4ghz: ua-cam.com/video/aAKe3kTUv4o/v-deo.html
Best Performing UHF (500mhz) is now the Comica BoomX-U: ua-cam.com/video/k6tDHGUb3f8/v-deo.html
If you plan to continue with the 2.4ghz system, I would tell you to consider the Blink500 Pro, it beats out the BoomXD hands down. Hope this further helps!

Most definitely! The RODE GO and Picomic are the ones I deploy the most, I feel both handle all the situations that I generally film in. It's so crazy to go to a shoot and have these two super small setups when I used to bring the larger Uwmic9 system. Saves so much space in my Pelican Case!

      Hey hey again Kit!
Hahah 55 minutes of accumulated review elements with a long analyzed "learning section". However I am very excited about the new way I am now going to standardizing the audio quality tests. This was the one thing I couldn't figure out for the last year of doing all these mic tests, but now I finally found a way and I can objectively look at the results and hear what going on. The next thing I need is a Mixpre-3 II to really take this to a whole other level!

wow. im impressed with how much of this video i watched - and im even more impressed with this video. thank you for being so thorough. my sister has a rode wireless (which we record our podcast on right now, with surprisingly good quality) and i was thinking of getting the blink 500, but ive decided to just invest a little more into the rode as well! thank you!
if i have one bit of feedback, it would be that when a mic wasnt performing on a rest, they stayed on screen in their column but were just dimmed out or something. i started getting confused when the rode disapeared and didnt dare try to go back because the video is so long and clicking the time bar would be so imprecise.
but again, super appreciate this video, thanks for all your work and offering it here for us all.

Hey hey What The Phalange?! Podcast!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad this video was helpful for your decision between the Blink500 and another Rode Go! Thank you so much for the feedback, its definitely hard to try and cram that many tests side by side so that you can hear the difference immediately instead of hear one and then hear another late. Pro tip for you if I make another long comparison video like this. If you want to go back and hear something on a laptop or computer, use the arrow keys and it'll scroll back 5 or 10 seconds at a time depending on what you have set in your settings I think. If you're on the phone app, double tap on the left or right side of the video frame and it'll do the same (The more you tap the more it'll skip instead of double tapping a bunch of times)

@@TLDR_filmmaker Yes please! i mean not the super technical and complicated audio tutorial, the basic one would be cool. For example, at the moment i really not sure how do i set my level on my Sony A7III and my gain to my mic. Also i really have no idea how EQ works and which EQ to use in Audion to tune / correct the audio.
I always got this high noise floor / hiss in my audio when i dropped it to premier. I notice your audio in every video really minimal hiss and i think you did a great job when you were taking and processing the audio!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому

      Gotcha!
As for the A7iii, I am currently filming on that camera for my youtube talking head. So essentially what you want to do is set your mic level in the Sony to +1. If your microphone has its own Gain, set it to the highest it will go and see what your meters in the Sony are telling you. If its too high and bumping up to the -6db marks on the sony (i think the color is yellow when it does). Then you simply lower your mics gain until you normal speech stays, on average, around the -12db mark. This is just the basic approach to try and get the bet sound out of a DSLR camera.
Hope this helps for the time being!

I was one of the few that thought FCPX was just fine for most content creation, it's definitely gotten way better since Ver.1. Now I just really hope they create some way to submix audio before going into a master. It can be done with compounding clips, but unfortunately when I did that sometimes audio would just not render out and you'd hear silence. No rhyme or reason, but I no longer trust it. It actually happened in this project too.

TLDR Filmmaker You know what, I didn’t really explain it all right, but I am ALSO able to actually do this AFTER I have assembled all my cuts, and right before I do my final color grading in Final Cut Pro. I can apply audio post sweetening using this system and it’s plug-ins to individual cuts, certain sections, or to the entire production timeline using this method. I may not still be explaining it correctly, but it works for me, and I do a lot of long production with it (half hour and one hour shows), in addition to TV commercials.

As for Sabinetek, they have reached out to me before but after taking a look at how their system works overall to get the best out of it, it seems a lot of their products are propriety app based. While they can work as just a bluetooth mic, it doesn't seem to hold the benefits as in their app. Because of my style of work, narrative productions and youtube, I did talk to them about my thoughts, and then ultimately never heard back from them about it. I guess I'll continue to keep them on my radar to see if they start making mics that can be used in more production type settings, otherwise for youtubers and vloggers (via smartphone) that would like to stay within their app for everything, it does seem like a nice mic.

@@TLDR_filmmaker Hi, thank you for your detailed response! Yes, it's a bit annoying that much of Sabinetek is attached to their app. What really seems to work well is their noise reduction technology. And what excites me also is that they have on the fly transcription to create subs in various languages. Especially this part hardly anyone is mentioning in their reviews let testing it. Yet I think that's a stand-out feature in comparison to other wireless mike systems if it works as it's supposed to. It means to widen your range as a vlogger into other language realms for people who e.g. don't know English.

      Hey hey Glacé!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
The RØDElink Filmmaker kit would sit closer to the XSW-D and the Sennheiser AVX system as it more closely resembles their price point as well as power. While I'l have not played with one yet, I believe the overall range may be better with a stronger signal. The RØDElink also operates off of AA batteries making it nice and easy to switch out if needed be on a film shoot. The only thing about it is it's bulky compared to these small form wireless mics. Not necessarily a bad thing depending on what type of videos you film. If you're always in decent range of the person you're filming and not running an 8 hour day constantly, then these little systems may be the better option while the RØDElink would be a more industry option.

So if you are just in a yoga studio, there would be no problems as your the RX and TX are in the same room. So glad you enjoyed it! Hmm, could you elaborate what you'd want to see in a monitoring section? Most of these are pretty straight forward in terms of monitoring capability.
As for iphonography, I'm unfortunately not in that arena as all my gear is for independent film sets, so a lot of my tests are geared towards that area, but perhaps in the future I'll make a video on that topic and keep it as universal as possible so that it doesn't matter what type of wireless audio system you have, you have a dedicated area that keeps things balanced and out of the way.

Hi, thanks for your great effort to make that comparison.
I have the picomic for couple of months now, and I can say for sure the last firmware changed audio quality to match with other more expensive devices. In the chance log they wrote they added the lower frequencies. I'm curious to know why they prevented it from the beginning. Also the limiter is working better now but still I get clipping sometimes. The clipping sounds different than the older firmware.
I only wish the range was better outdoors and the receiver was smaller and than we had a perfect sound solution. But it's still one of my favorite gear pieces. A lot of talents very pleased and impressed with it when they don't have to wire themselves... :)

Hey hey - כוכבי אור - מאירים נקודות טובות
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad you were able to get a Picomic set! I think initially with the earlier firmware, they were still developing the overall sound and seeing how people were using it. The limiter is aggressive at times, but it doesn't sound as clippy as before. I hope in future firmware updates that they create different types of limiter responses so that we can choose. But I wouldn't put it past the team, if they all the sudden give you straight up Pro features where we can begin adjusting EQ, Compression, and Limiter levels, now how about THAT for a extremely versatile wireless clip on mic with 20 freaking hours of battery. They really do have a gem on their hands, I hope they get more and more funding to expand their operations and team, so that they aren't sold our months at a time.
The clients LOVE when I introduce the picomic, they've never had such a great experience not needed to be wired up. This is why I constantly say that the Picomic is the best for corporate shoots. The client being happy with you is more important that the subtle difference in sound that they cannot even hear.

If I ran all these separate brands at the same time near each other, they will cut each other out. I found this out when I was doing a mass battery life test with 3 of these systems at the same time. The reason is most likely because they all have a different frequency hopping algorithm and were clashing into each other. When it comes to these 2.4ghz systems that frequency hop, its probably best to keep it all the same brand so that they work with each other. Hope this helps!

Can you suggest EQ setting for the 'Comica BoomX-D' in order to make a similar sound to 'Rode wireless Go'? (ex: boost 1k and 2k area up).

      Hey hey Victoria!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
In terms of the outdoor line of sight tests and performance, the Comica pretty much performed the same as the others (minus the Sennheiser XSW-D), I think we're pretty much at the limit of performance as far as what these small 2.4ghz systems can do.
In terms of the EQ, I would suggesting look at the part where I matched them as I show the EQ curves I did to match the two (to my voice) you may need to use a computer to see it more clearly (you can zoom in on it too from the browser)
But essentially there is a +3 db bump from 60-800hz and then a +3db down to -6db from 2khz-20khz (Check that EQ I posted to see how the curves move.

Great review, We do a lot of interviews and short tip videos, with the locations being both controlled and uncontrolled. We typically just film with our iPhone, with that being said would you recommend the Blink or the Comica? They both seem to be at the same price point. I initially started looking for a multi-mic "6+" into one receiver and quickly found out that is more than I am willing to learn.

      Hey hey Bailey Family Insurance!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
Based on my tests here the only two things I can think of that you'll have to determine is this. Blink beats out the Comica in terms of "out of box" sound quality, and the Comica beats out Blink in overall battery life when you're on the go (also less bulky). Those two attributes are probably what you'll be looking at for your needs. Both do have a version where its two receivers into one transmitter so that help if you need a extra mic for someone else to talk as well. The last thing you'll want to determine is if you want the either version with the iPhone specific receiver or the DSLR style receiver that can work for both. If you find yourself eventually going over to a DSLR camera, this will be something to consider in your investment decision.

AMAZING review sir. Hats off for sure. I was going into this wanting the Sarasonic wireless mic because currently I can get 2 receivers instead of just one with buying the Rode. I felt I was essentially getting more bang for my buck with getting 2. Since they aren’t very far in quality I’m still leaning towards it. I’m mainly going for interviews and filmmaking. Would the Comica be a better choice?

So glad you enjoyed this video! The Comica may be the better choice in terms of you are able to split the interview track between LEFT and RIGHT audio channel so that you can edit them later. The Blink500 does not do this. (Check the pinned comments FAQ section as I dive into it deeper there). However I do have to say that I am currently test two more 2TX to 1RX systems. So if you're not in a hurry, I'd recommend waiting till I finish off these reviews so you can see which is the best for your needs!

FANTASTIC video...side-by-side testing, breaking things into different categories by user need ('super budget', etc.). One of the best videos I've seen. This video has something for every level of viewer...newbie to expert. Congratulations. You got a sub from me just based on this video alone. Well done!!!
Now I'm a complete newbie who's just looking to get into content creation as a hobby and I'm not sure how serious of hobby it will be for me so as a result I'm not looking to spend a lot of money until I know that I'm going to pursue it in a bigger way and I need something that will just work out of the box and includes everything. So I'm in the "Ultra low budget" category (Sokani Tiny). I would be using this wireless microphone for a Drone channel...outdoors, line of sight, limited distance, etc...nothing too exotic. With that said I did have some questions/concerns re: your recommendation (Sokani Tiny) and one concern about the category as a whole:
    1) All of the ones you reviewed run on 2.4hz and that happens to be the same frequency that most wifi drones use...so I'm a little concerned about the potential for interference with the many drone's 2.4ghz signal...As an example many drone mfgs advise that you turn off your mobile phones wifi (put in airplane mode) when flying the drone to prevent interference with the phone's wifi. So while I realize that you probably won't be able to tell me whether it will interfere with my drones. I have seen many low end microphones that use UHF signals. Is that different then these 2.4ghz signals? Again I know nothing about wireless signals so this may be a really dumb question because it's an apple to oranges comparison. Generally speaking are UHF wireless microphones something that I'd want to stay away from if I want good quality sound? Are there any general considerations/downsides to using UHF wireless mics beyond maybe sound quality? (e.g., distance, breakup, interference, etc.)
    2) While I like The Sokani Tiny price point it was listed as having a

      Hey hey Jet!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking some question!
Glad this video was helpful, lets see if I can help with some answers.
      1) The difference between 2.4 and these UHF (500) is the frequency they are operating in.
2.4 = 2400mhz while the Sokani operates at 500mhz band. So they are pretty far away from each other in terms of interfering with each others signal.
The only downside with any of these wireless systems is interference from a potentially stronger source. In terms of the 2.4ghz systems, they do frequency hopping usually so they are always looking for the cleanest signal. Where as with UHF systems, usually you gotta just pick a frequency channel and stick to it unless you hear inference and have the manually change it to something else. This usually doesn’t happen often, but it did, thats what you’d have to do.
      2) The small battery life of the Sokani is indeed a problem for some, you can run them while attached to a small battery bank to increase the battery life if needed. Granted that is one extra thing you’d have to attach to your camera or pocket. But the option is there.
      3) Fotowelt and Sokani both essentially branded this non-branded system. Boya and Movo I think brand a different set of non-branded systems, though I do not have much experience their systems.
The alternative I would have you look at is the Comica Boom XU that I recently just reviewed. While its larger than the Sokani, its feature set and abilities at a $50 price bump may be enough for you to consider. The video review can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/k6tDHGUb3f8/v-deo.html
      4) I do not have experience with really off brand $50 range, my guess is they’ll more or less work, but your milage may vary. I reviewed a fitness headset that was 50 bucks for a different video. It’ll work with cameras too and they actually sounded quite good. Though you’ll have to get creative with how you connect it to a camera and you’ll want to use a mono to dual mono cable as its only a “left channel’ signal. That video can be found here for a quick sample: ua-cam.com/video/FJrKY10pivU/v-deo.html
Hope this helps get you to a product that’ll work best for you!

While I don't have a Tascam DR10L to compare, the reviews I have seen rate it pretty well. The main advantage of that system is that it is a small recorder that does not require wireless transmission so you never have to worry about it not capturing audio. I believe it also has a built in safety track recording as well, which is great. The only thing is you have to sync up the audio files later while editing, while these wireless systems do not when they are going directly into the camera.

Great video. My only problem is with some of these lav kits is that they are mostly all rechargeable which, while great now, can become a problem in the future when your lav starts to not keep as good of a charge. I personally looked into the majority of these kits a while back before I settled on purchasing the uwmic9 simply because I wanted good quality that will last me forever. A lot of these have great sound but I just can't have my lavs dying faster and faster while on set. Being able to replace batteries in 2 seconds really is a lifesaver. Hope this helps someone who's looking into buying their very first lav kit.

      Hey hey again Loomoo5
Definitely, if your shoots usually last continuously past the max batteries life, having those AA batteries quick changes are what you should go for. Depending on usage patterns most of these build in lithium ions should last a good while before the start deteriorating, but I totally get that you don't want to change it on critical shoots. I'm kinda hoping to see a new wave of these small wireless mics that can utilize either a single standard AAA battery, or maybe the smaller rechargeable cylindrical batteries. Going that route would be a nice mix. We shall see as the 2nd gen wave of these types of mics come into market these next couple years!

Hi, great video. I am shooting usually outdoors and I like hearing for example sound of ocean and other nature in my videos. Not the wind distraction or loud car sound distraction. I lost my old rode and thinking to get a new microphone. I am thinking about the wireless microphone. Not sure if I can achieve this with the wireless microphone. If yes, which one would you recommend? I thought maybe Rode Go? I like the idea, I could use it for various sounds recording too. But I don’t like , that when you are outdoor and you turn backwards to the camera, that the sound cuts. For that reason I don’t understand how come it didn’t cut when you did the indoor wall obstruction test. Which wireless microphone would you recommend me for outdoor shooting, as much talking . Or do you think no wireless ones would be more suitable for me? If yes, which one? Thank you. I bought the Shure MV88, but I am a bit disappointed. Thinking to return it. Thanks for any advice.

      Hey hey Monika!
When it comes to these 2.4ghz wireless systems. When you are outside with your back turned is when you will have the signal cut out. When you are indoors the signals can reflect all over the walls and make it back to the receiver just fine. 2.4ghz is essentially WIFI, so think about it that way in terms of why it works fine indoors even when there is your body and walls all in the way.
As for ambient sounds. Wireless mics like these will always pick those up, it's the nature of the mics sound capturing profile. There are some nice sound isolation tools now that can take a good chunk of it away in editing like I show here: ua-cam.com/video/xwbyHSPuMUU/v-deo.html
That being said the best one currently on the market I would recommend is the RODE Wireless GO II. Its similar to the RODE I show here except it has a internal recording system. So it doesnt matter if you suddenly lose signal. You will have a backup recording you can use to fill in the gap. My suuuuper long review of that is here: ua-cam.com/video/3TOldrv9iEE/v-deo.html
      Hope this helps!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому

      Hey hey Théo!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
If we're talking about the Saramonic UWMIC9 vs the Senn XSW-D. If the interviews are in a controlled setting where you have staged an area for the people to sit and just grabbing audio. Both would perform well with the Sennheiser having a slight edge in terms of getting good audio out of the gate as it will automatically make sure the speaker doesn't clip as easily. Depending if you're going into a camera or recorder, the Senn signal is quite hot for cameras like the GH5, so you'll want to have some sort of preamp mixer to control the volume. If you are already planning on going into an external recorder, you're good on that front.
If your interviews are moving constantly and not in a designated staged area, the Saramonic may be the better bet since it operates on a different radio frequency that allows it to be out of "line of sight" without losing the signal. If your cameras are really far away, I would suggest investing in an external recorder that you can keep closer to the staged area, or in those cases, the speakers are probably mic'd up for the stage so you could see if you can get an audio feed from the sound board.
One last thing to note is that the Saramonic Uwmic9 uses AA batteries, so switching out is much faster. Where as the Senn XSW would require you to hook up a USB battery pack to charge.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

      Feidu FM40 (500mhz) replaces the Sokani: ua-cam.com/video/Hf6eF9LDr0E/v-deo.html
Blink 500 PRO replaces regular Blink500, its also the best performing budget 2.4ghz: ua-cam.com/video/aAKe3kTUv4o/v-deo.html
Best Performing UHF (500mhz) is now the Comica BoomX-U: ua-cam.com/video/k6tDHGUb3f8/v-deo.html

Great review thinking about purchasing the Blink 500 or Comica for my wife and me for a two-person vlog being that you can hook up two mics to one transmitter using a Sony point and shoot camera. Which one would you recommend? We would probably use it with two rode mic lav go microphones. 😁

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому +1

      Hey hey Two Modern Vegans!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
Because you are a two people duo team, I would personally say the Comica because you can split you and your wife's audio into left and right channels. This will just overall be helpful for you when you edit. The Blink500 does not split, so if one of you coughs or the mic catches a lot of noise somewhere else, you wouldn't be able to edit that out in post.
Here's what I mean by working with a dual audio setup in post: ua-cam.com/video/3mtGjRTQL5w/v-deo.html
However the main thing you want to make sure is that your Sony Point and Shoot camera has a true stereo mic jack. If it does not, then having the comica won't matter as your camera will automatically make it a dual mono audio source instead of a stereo.
Lastly, as far as the Comica is concerned, the included lav mic seemed to perform about the same as the other more expensive mics, mainly because of the pre-amps I think. So you may not see too much benefit between the included and 3rd party mic as I showed in tests here.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

      Hey hey shashitha!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
Out of this crop of wireless systems, the Comica BoomXD is the one I would go for if you are specifically looking for a dual channel system that has one receiver instead of two. However there are newer models that I am currently testing and reviewing that I feel will be better options for dual channel systems. If you're not in a hurry, I would wait to see if these newer models would fit you better, but if you are in a hurry, the Comica Boom XD is the best one available right now for indoor (only) interviews. The Saramonic Uwmic9 is next in line if you have the budget and don't mine the traditional bulkier setup as well as the benefit of using AA batteries so you don't have to wait to recharge a system or have a USB battery bank attached to someone.

@@TLDR_filmmaker Thank you for your recommendation. Indeed the PicoMic is a fine product but not quite up to what I have been looking for almost a year. We are looking for a system that we can talk to one another while rock climbing or when mountain biking and at the same time feed a signal into the action cam to record our fun days. At the moment we use 2 Motorolla 2 way radios with Vox control but we can't hook those up on our Insta360 One R action cam.
We looked into getting maybe the Sena extend boom headsets but those too don't hookup to the action camera. The ideal setup would be to have each an intercom headset or wireless microphones that we can both talk and ear each other via monitor out of the transmitter and at the same time being able to feed a signal into the action cam from the microphones receiver.
My budget at this time is probably going to go against your sound advice of not buying filming gear that I can't pay right now and avoid using credit card lol.
      ua-cam.com/video/3zO9axytfK8/v-deo.html
I seen and heard of a few "work around" people have done to get this system working but all said its not the best and it requires me to buy expansive gear that is not the best and hard to get service from (Sena is notorious for not being helpful with their products or service, so I would like to stay away from that manufacturer.
If I can get a unit around $500 I would be happy.
I like Wireless mics over intercom headset because of the sound quality - my work around was to buy two set of PicoMic or another brand that has two transmiter and 1 receiver and use my girlfriend transmiter and my transmiter pluged into one receiver connected to the action cam with monitor out to my ears and get the second set where I would wear a mic and my girlfriend would be wearing the receiver on her belt with the monitor output to her ears thus closing the loop. I would be the only one wearing two mics while she would be wearing one mic and a receiver. does this sound like a dumb plan?

      Hey hey Jirapat!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
You're most welcome! That is definitely a good question and something I should consider for the next updated round of tests in the future. For the most part you can use the Lav mic tests to see how each system colors the sound based on their mic pre amps. The Comica boom still lacked in Bass frequencies even when using other lavs. The difference when using something like the NTG will be that the NTG has its own power source where as all the lavs I used require the wireless system to provide it power. So for the most part you should be able to get some very clean signals going into the TX, and the quality of the overall sound will dependent on the wireless pre-amp (again reference the 3rd party lav tests to see what each one does)
Hope this makes sense! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

Well, you took the teal&orange approach to the limits :-D Nice fit of the shirt to the background lighting :-)
You killed this comparison, I bought the Blink system, but sent it back because the WiFi signal always generated a nasty, high pitched signal noise on my Zoom H4n Pro and H1n (is it picked up with the integrated mics of the zooms?). Do you experience similar problems with other WiFi mics? I am considering the Sokani now, because of UHF instead of WiFi and hope that it doesn’t generate noise on the recording. It was huge bummer, I was so excited of the possibilities :(

      Hey hey again Andreas!
This was the craziest video to put together, SO much data to go through but I'm glad I did it. I think this paints a better picture in terms of audio quality and my standard distances tests. For me the Blink500 in one scenario I could hear some digital blips but that was after I jacked up the noise floor all the way up. When I was recording all these tests I was about 10feet away from my wifi router and there are about 16 wifi networks in my area that I pick up. It could potentially be the Zoom, but I really don't know :( , if you still had the boom I would suggest testing the AUX cable with a different one and see if maybe the AUX cable just had bad shielding or something.
The Sokani Tiny is definitely an interesting contender in this bunch. Just remember that it does do its on audio post processing internally and is quite aggressive with it. I'm hoping we see more companies attempt to create small form UHF systems (preferable with antennas hidden) That would be one heck of a new frontier for filmmakers that don't necessarily want the bulkier workhorse Sennheiser G3.
      We shall see!

@@TLDR_filmmaker I am amazed by your regularly long answers to viewers comments, thank you for that. Yes, the internal processing might be not suitable, but it has better line of sight requirements, is cheap and easy to use. I‘ll try that, the Blink is already refunded and I used the included cables. The nasty noise was both on the Zoom H1n and the H4n Pro, I have no other options of recording other than directly into camera, which is not suitable (at least three tracks required). I was really bummed, because I got it incredibly cheap.

You're most welcome, while I'm still a smaller channel (by comparison to the big dogs) I will continue to be active in the comments until it becomes an impossibility :)
Ah gotcha about needing three tracks. I hope the Sokani fair's a little bit better for your needs!

Thanks for this really in-depth review! Can you please elaborate on the point that at this price point we should not buy the dual TX models? Thank you

The adventures of who again? Must admit I cheated a bit. But that's only cause you provide these handy time codes. Seriously; I love your reviews. Very in debt without being too much and also providing that 'need-to-know-option' in both your intro as well as in the description. Very, very well done, thanks so much for passing this down to us!

The Picomic is my next purchase. I love how small they are and how you can mute the Mics from the receiver.

      Hey hey again Alan!
Definitely a very handy feature and handy mic for quick applications. I hope they get more consistent stock soon. Seems like a lot of people are still waiting to get one after the 2nd batch sold out late last year :(
