    The beauty of the Picogear: I shot two indoors interviews with two chief executives last week. They were both women. They were both wearing dresses. The rooms were definitely not good for a shotgun.
    I am so glad that I don't need to work with Sony ECM 77 anymore. I just asked the ladies to hook the microphone on the top of their dresses. No. need for the very embarrassing "could you please pass the cable under your dress?". The interviewee feels much more comfortable and a comfortable interviewee is worth more than the superior sound quality of a good wired lavaliere especially considering that the sound of the Picogear is of broadcast quality.
    As a bonus, no need to carry and/or worry about AA batteries . Mics such as the picogear are the future and the future is where I want to live and work.

    It is a terrific system, and the most discrete mic size (without logos or advertising). I love mine as well.

    I've tried the wireless Go II and the DJI mic, but have been searching for something that's slimline and quick to changeover for wedding speeches that I can run into my Tascam X8, and I think this is the one! Thanks so much for the rundown.

    was on the fence about buying this till I saw the video. Orderd the new set of the Pico Mic 3. Only god awful thing I can see is no USB-C port on the receiver but USB C on the trasmitters themselves which is kind of welcome but also weird that they didn't make a new receiver with USB C? Anyways, I'll check back after it comes in.

    I have two receivers and six microphones. Use these all the time and get bookings just for the hassle free handling. No wires or big visible clunks of equipment. Love them, but have a lite problem with distortion. Nothing you can't fix easily in post. Features I would like is be able to shut off the lights and maybe a rubber protection for the mic ports.

    Cat's out the bag. :) I own 3 sets thus 6 mics running into my SD recorder. They are by far the easiest and least obtrusive system which is almost not spoke about. Until now.
    For safety tho, I still have a center mic on table or hidden should there be any drop-outs or noise from unexpected hair or fabric rustling etc. Best purchase ever and better yet, you don't need to do the awkward wire runs especially for females. I just wish the clips were available in white or grey covers to match with the clothes they got on. But they're way tinier than all else that is in market. Tx for sharing your experience with em!

    Hello Joel
    Thanks for great review.
    I also have this kit with the picomic 2 and I am also amazed by the size and sound quality.
    Nevertheless, the size of the receiver is quite bulky when attached to the camera compared to the DJI Mic receiver and I am always worried to loose it and I only use this set attached to the camera when I am on a steady tripod interview situation.
    As I am often on run and gun situations with my camera handheld, I just also bought the DJI Mic 2 who has a really a smaller receiver but have not tested yet. My intention is to also plug my shotgun MK400 in one of the 2 transmitters while the other is on the talent so I can get the benefit of shotgun and lavalier direct to camera.
    I still keep the Picogear because of their sound quality and I would love to see a new edition with a much smaller receiver, something like the DJI Mic …. Also but not so important, internal recording and 32 bits but prefer to keep small if a choice is required.
    Unfortunately, we do not hear much about Picogear and don’t have an idea if this product has a roadmap, the last posts from users on the topic are about one year old ….
    Please correct me if wrong, I would love to remain loyal to the brand and hear something new is coming…

    This system looks excellent. I have the Rode go wireless system and find it useless due to over modulation ( distorting) and have been looking for a new wireless system with limiters. This just might be the product for me. I'm based in Australia.

      Thanks so much!!! I believe there are only two main differences.
      Pros:
      1. Longer distance.
      2. External Mic connections.
      I would opt for the Pro version for sure. It a $50 difference.

    Hello ! Sarrasin for my english im french ! Im looking for Picomic2 pro for wedding Android run and gun évent when i record . The pro version has one connexion for external micro so i can record wedding with Pico and connect my Rode MicVideoPro+ canon micro on the pico in backup?
    Im very interesting but i m afraid to lost signal during speeches and no backup

      Thanks for watching! I probably would not recommend the Pico or any 2.4 GHz system for weddings. There is usually lots of interference from people with cellphones. I would recommend maybe a UHF system or local recording system from Tascam like this: amzn.to/3PQbabn

  • @erikpreston2393

    Thanks for the review, do you think that DJI Mic is the better option because of internal recording and the ability to gain stage both the TX and RX?

    • @JoelGabrielsen
      @JoelGabrielsen  Рік тому

      That is a great point! I could see the benefit of the internal recording feature. "Like in filming a wedding. If you're having interference you can alway rely on the internal recording to be clean.
      I would say, it depends on the use case for each person. I know for me personally I like the small profile of the pico system and find that useful for corporate work.
      Thanks so much for the watch and comment!!!

    • @umbertoaguiar
      @umbertoaguiar 11 місяців тому

      There is no way the DJI is a better option than the Picogear. Obviously, you don't know the pico gear kit otherwise you would know you that you can set different gains for mic and receiver from the receiver. The Picogear receiver has far more options for work than the DJI. The battery lasts longer. And the Picogear's latency is far lower than DJI's .
      This internal recording is a niche thing that would interest a limited number of people. I really don't get the fuss about internal recording because I remember having a few problems with interference some 15 years ago with the technology of that time.
      Nowadays I simply don't have interference problems and see no advantage of internal recording and the hassle of having to sync image with sound.

      15 years is like 150 yrs for tech. Internal recording I assume has come along way I'm sure interference is occasional but I think it's cool for those on a budget. Still these caught my eyes simply off the look. It'll save me from running the cords without taking away too much attention. Def doing my research. I'm looking at Holly land, tascam, rode wireless pro & just when I thought I was done now comes pico.

    It's misleading to say the Picogear kit is 'very similar to the Rode Go system'. The only thing they have in common is the presence of two mics but in that case you could say this kit is "very similar" to Godox Movelink , Saramonic Blink, DJI etc.
    The Picogear wireless system is very, very different to the Rode Go system. To begin with, the receiver has a multitude of important features that simply don't exist on the Rode receiver.
    The mics are very different in size and shape.
    You can charge both receiver and microphones with Picogear and the battery lasts more than double the time of Rode Go's battery.
    The Picogear kit comes with a protective case. Protective cases for microphones are unknown to people working at Rode. They simply don't care about protecting the microphones they sell.

    • @JoelGabrielsen
      @JoelGabrielsen  11 місяців тому

      Absolutely! I see your point. I meant similar in the same frequency. 2.5 GHz and both having 2 transmitters and one receiver. At the time of filming these were the only two units really available. Godox Movelink , Saramonic Blink, DJI etc. were not out.
      I ultimately think the Picogear is the better unit and that's what I push in my video.
      Thanks so much for watching!!!

    • @umbertoaguiar

      I thought it would be something like that but I just don't miss any opportunity to criticise Rode because of I had a really bad experience I had with their SC 7 cable and their customer service on the top of their arrogance of being practically the only manufacturer that doesn't provide cases for their mic systems. @@JoelGabrielsen

    • @JoelGabrielsen
      @JoelGabrielsen  Рік тому

      I haven't had a chance to test the DJI Mics but I would say they are probably very similar. Both using the 2.4G frequency. I just prefer the smaller profile of the Pico system for sure. Thanks for watching!!!

    • @umbertoaguiar
      @umbertoaguiar 11 місяців тому

      The latency on the picogear is far lower than on the DJI. The battery lasts longer. The receiver has more options to set the audio than the DJI's receiver. The microphone is smaller and more discreet.

      @@JoelGabrielsen Actually there is a way to connect the Pico Receiver to a phone. You can find instructions on how to do it somewhere on their website, you just need the right cables and adapters. It helps to have an app like the Blackmagic camera app so you can at least see audio levels to confirm you got everything setup properly.
