  • At some point you’re going to want to invest in a decent wireless lavalier kit, they are wonderful for getting clean audio from your subject while being mostly hidden from view if not completely. However you get what you pay for and the good ones can be quite expensive.
    The Saramonic UwMic9 is unique in that it allows you to take two TX (Transmitter) units and feed it into one RX (receiver). They accomplish this by splitting each TX unit to either the Left or Right channel from a stereo mix. This is amazing because you can use your editing program of choice and work with each subjects voice separately. If you’re in a time crunch and need to upload fast, like filming NAB Trade Shows, you can output a full mono mix and not have to do any work in post.
    The audio that comes out is quite decent, as you can hear in the video, while it doesn’t quite compare to the famous Sennheiser G3, this mic kit will surely be adequate enough until you save enough money to upgrade your gear.

      Hey he Buddy Bear T.V.!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! I will reply to this last comment instead of the other two. I'm not sure if you have seen this major comparison video I did, if not, I think it will help you out: ua-cam.com/video/ULsUjlygGic/v-deo.html
      The reason I say this is because if you are only a few feet away and need to go a bit under the radar. You may want to look into the tiny RODE Wireless Go system. The reason I have transitioned from the Saramonic Uwmic9 system is because of how small the RODE GO is and how versatile it is for a production. I have used the Uwmic9 for actors before in a narrative shoot. The thing I never liked about traditional wireless lav setups was that the TX on the actors are bulky. For filmmakers like me that need to work fast, the RODE Go has been amazing. The only time you will run into potential problems is if you are completely out in the wide open like I show you in a parking lot. If you're in a wide open Gymnasium, it's a different story and you won't necessarily have the line of sight problems.
      At the end of the day both systems will serve you well on a budget depending on your needs and primary shooting situations. Pay close attention to the difference in outdoor and indoor tests. This will give you an idea of your limitations with each system to compare.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and i'll see you in the next one!

      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! It definitely is nice and unique at a nice price point for sure. Though for my needs I’m about to transition over to the Rode Wireless Go system (2.4ghz). Ends up being the same price for two wireless Lavs and much much more compact.

      Hey hey Joshua!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      It seems QC is a bit all over the place between batches, but that being said I recently found out that I do get a very nice cleaner signal with Volume at 30 going into a recorder. Going straight into the GH5 or something with a pretty sensitive pre-amp might be the weaker point of these devices, I recently found this out during my PicoMic review, I didn't realize that if you try to lower the gain of wireless audio that your noise floor becomes more loud (Learn something new everyday!)
      Other than that, this Saramonic has served me well! Thanks again for stopping by and I"ll see you in the next one!

    I bought these around 9 months ago and it's been an utter nightmare. I bought them for a shoot I was flying to and they stopped working mid interview. We lost a lot of great footage. After troubleshooting them myself, unsuccessfully, I brought them to a camera store and they worked just fine on the spot. The next shoot they failed mid shoot again and I had issues with them every time after that. Going through customer service was also a nightmare. They didn't want to replace the set for me. It ultimately took nearly 2 months from when I sent the mics back to when I got my new set. I would strongly recommend not purchasing these mics.

Have you tested the Saramonic system with actual actors in an Ext. Day scene? Just curious. Thanks for what you did do and now I gotta go find the distance and drop out test along with some of the output configs.

      Hey hey Dr. Dimento!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      This is one of my very first reviews on my channels, I later did perform the drop out test in this huge battle royal video: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
      Its a long one so check out the chapter markers to go where you want to go. The Blink 500 is in there as well, but its not the Pro version as that version was not available at the time. I have reviewed the 500 Pro on the channel with the drop out tests. I do not have the 900 and not sure at the moment if I will be getting a review unit to test it out.
      As for the configs of output, this Saramonic Uwmic9 that I have is the very first version that does not have the same menu as the newer versions. Essentially I had my RF strength on high and my output was set in a way so that my panasonic camera (-12dB preamp Mic level) could reach approx -6dB on the soundbar of the camera. These settings will be different for you depending on what camera you are using as some Sony cameras do not like to be placed at +1 Preamp Mic level settings.
      Hope this further helps.

      The Saramonic does decently well, maybe a little extra ambient noise compared to the Sennheiser G3, but not by much. It's definitely a different sound and may not last as long as the Sennheiser on 2 AA batteries, but it's a great budget friendly dual wireless lav set and gets the job done to get clearer voices when you're out and about.

    Can I use a 3.5mm Y-splitter going into the camera and use 2 Receivers and 4 transmitters for 4 actors?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  6 років тому

      Hey DeadSeaProductions!
      Thank you so much for checking out the video and commenting!
      While I have not personally tried this setup, I don't see why it would not work. I have used a 3.5 Stereo Y-Splitter before for my youtube setup where one handled my Lav Mic and the other handled a Hot-shoe Shotgun mic signal.
      The only thing you need to remember to do is to make sure both receivers are set to "mono output". Because the y splitter most likely will only handle either Right or Left audio per port, so you'll want to make sure its getting both actors from the receiver.
      Another thing you'll want to consider is that you will have not have fine audio level control of all 4 actors on set. So if one speaks softly and the others are louder, its going to be harder to work with the audio on set or in post since you will only have two channels of audio instead of 4.
      Not sure if having 4 actors will be a common thing for you in your productions, but you could potentially get a DSLR 4 XLR channel pre-amp. Get the Saramonic TX Stereo Splitter for both RX units, and then have those go into the 4 channels of the pre-amp. Then Pre-amp makes the final trip into the GH5. Its quite a setup, definitely not run and gun, but it will give you freedom to adjust each actors audio independently before you start filming.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Check back every Wednesday for something new!

    Hi, I'm here again.
    ;-)
    Do you believe it is worth buying UwMic9 since Saramonic has released the Blink 500 pro? What is your recommendation between these two options?
    I like the idea of using aa batteries.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  3 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again Felipe!
      It's not a matter of worth, but rather which type of frequency will be benefit for you.
      Blink uses 2.4ghz which is competing with WIFI signals around you, which may or may not cause interference if there are a lot.
      Saramonic uses 500mhz (if its allowed in your country outside of the USA) which has less chance of interference and better "no line of sight" performance.
      These will be your primary concerns to worry about. The last is how do you plan to use them. If you are using it in close range from your camera where you're just talking to it in your room like me, then either system should be just fine.
      The last thing would be the battery difference. AA battery is much easier for sure. Hope this helps!

      @TLDR_filmmaker  5 років тому

      Greetings HalifaxStudios!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      Just to clarify, you'd like to have a total of 2 lavs and 2 receivers.
      I'm sure there wouldn't be a problem with this setup as all you'd have to do is make sure you select the right channel frequencies for the other pair. Is there a specific reason you'd like to go with two RX instead of getting a XLR split cable?
      As for the Contryman Mic's, I really do not know as I don't have a way to test it. If I remember correctly, the standard Sennheiser G3 lavs do not work with the saramonic TX, but the Saramonic Lavs work on the G3...it was odd was all I can remember.

    Hey. Thanks for the video. I love these mics, but I have been having trouble with drop outs ! (on almost every shoot!) Not cool when it is a wedding. Do you have any tips as to why that may be happening? I sent my first set back, but now this 2nd set is doing the same thing. Very Frustrating. I really love everything else about them, so I am wondering if it is user error? Thanks for any insight you may have to ofeer.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  5 років тому +1

      Greetings Ruez30!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      I'm sure you already do a frequency scan on the receiver when you go to a new location just to make sure you get the least amount of interference, if not, definitely do that every time.
      But if audio is purely dropping out into silence, then my best guess is that perhaps the antenna is starting to fray internally either from the receiver or the transmitter. I feel like sometimes if the antenna gets bent for a second in the clothing that the signal cuts out sometimes. If it's not the antenna than it could be the Lav wire or lav port doing something similar where if the plug and wire gets pushed that something gets a loose connection for a second.
      These are my best ideas of what could be happening, but beyond that I'm not sure what else could be going on :(
      Sorry I couldn't provide a definitive answer, but hopefully this helps narrow down whats happening. Thanks again for stopping by and I'll hopefully see you in the next one!

    I picked up the Saramonic lav system a month ago. Not sure how the quality is yet. Will a Zoom audio recorder (used as a preamp) improve the quality of the audio? I'm using the system and the Zoom to record interviews for a documentary (directly into my camera).

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому +1

      Hey hey again DJ Sharp!
      Generally speaking a dedicated audio recorder will have much better audio quality than a cameras pre-amp. When you say directly into camera, do you mean you are using the headphone jack of the Zoom to go directly into your camera? I personally would let the camera catch ambient/scratch track audio that can add some dimension to the documentary while the zoom just focuses on recording the wireless lav. In post you'll sync up everything. To me this gives the most options for sound design. Another reason I don't usually have the audio reorders headphone jack going straight into the cameras Mic is because sometimes the headphone jacks have a hiss the entire time instead of a pure clean signal. You'll want to test this before hand as I know my tascam DR-40 does not have a clean headphone output. Hope this helps!

  • @Photographicelements

    Do you have to signal search before using like the G3's? Can you change frequencies if needed? (sometimes the Rode Links get too much interference at conventions).

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  6 років тому +1

      Hey hey again P.E.!
      There is an automated frequency search feature that can be performed on the RX unit and then you can just pair the TX's to that channel, or you can manually set to what frequency you desire as well. Before purchasing I did a quick search to see what frequencies were being used by the stations in my area just to see whats out there.
      **onto the next comment lol**

      And that's "Pe" to you, haha. That's good to know. I never considered the Saramonic, thinking the quality was not good enough, but now I think they are worth looking into. The receiver must have two outputs, right? so you can adjust the levels individually on the audio recorder.

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  6 років тому

      Unfortunately you can't adjust each audio channels output independently. However if you use a 3.5mm stereo splitter or the Saramonic stereo XLR splitter and put it through a mixer you can adjust the volume levels independently that way.

  • @orteezthis
    @orteezthis 4 роки тому

    Saramonic, 2 transmitters, 1 receiver. How do you differentiate the audio levels from one transmitter to the other? A female's voice is going to be softer than a Male's, how would I adjust levels so both talents have an equal output? Great vid btw thanks. In the market on buying, just have questions

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому +1

      Hey hey Jason!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      You are able to adjust each transmitters volume independently on the receiver so that you can adjust for the different people that are speaking. For more control make sure you tell the receiver to output a stereo signal into either your camera or get a stereo XLR Splitter to go into two channels in your field recorder, this way if you did make a mistake in levels you can adjust them later in post. If you have the receiver outputting in "mono" then it will be baked into the audio recording and it'll be much harder to try and level out both subjects.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

    Hi, i would like to ask you for an advice. Do i get a better audio when choosing RF power output to low than high? Let's say i shoot an interview and the person is right in front of me. Is it better to go for low to get better results or it doesn't really matter? Thanks!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому

      Hey hey Kryštof!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      It may matter to some degree, if you perform a Channel Scan, there are a lot radio waves in the area, and you find that its causing some odd interference in your sound. Boosting the signal will help to try and overpower the others. Of course boosting the RF power will affect your overall battery life. When I did use this audio set as my primary wireless kit, I always left it at Medium for standard operation. And lastly, the RF power will also help in terms of how far you are away from a subject. I feel for your situation with someone right in front of you with the camera or recorder a few feet away (over the shoulder shots), I feel Low and Med will serve you just fine.

    hey man thanks for the review. I have notices every time I speak, as well as the reviews Ive seen, its as if it activates the noise floor. It only seems to happen when speaking, have you noticed this as well? Its like there is a built in noise cancellation but as soon as you talk you can hear the noise floor. Let me know if you know what I mean.

      Hey hey James!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      I know exactly what you mean, I notice this in some wireless audio systems. The best way I can describe it is if these system might have some sort of Compression added that raised the noise floor when you speak, and it ducks back out with some sort of Noise Gate when you're not speaking. I think, generally, budget systems will try to sweeten the sound for beginners that are just starting out. Pros on the other hand will want as raw of a sound as possible, but clean (of course haha). Unfortunately theres probably nothing we can do, the only thing I can think of in terms of the Uwmic9 is to try different frequencies to see if it changes anything based on your area's radio frequency activity.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

      Hey Sean!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      While I don't have access to a uwmic15 to test with my 9, and from the descriptions it would seem that the two may be able to communicate with each other in its available frequency range. Unfortunately I'm going to guess that they don't 100% work because the frequency that you can select on the uwmic9 are not whole numbers, they are something like 515.93mhz 523.47mhz etc. So I have a feeling between the two models that these frequencies won't match up.
      Do you have a uwmic15? If you do go ahead and let me know some of the frequencies you have available to use and I can cross check mine to see if those frequency numbers show up.

      These antennas are definitely more firm than something like a Sennheiser G3's antenna. As far as them snapping off, this has not been my experience having used it for 3 years actively and now only use it for tests. Generally speaking the antenna shouldn't really be bending about in normal use and how you pack it up, but I guess if you were to repeat stress the antenna that it could eventually break, but I don't think that should happen in normal use cases. Hope this helps!

      Greetings Mario!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      This question could have a couple different answers depending on your filming situations and locations. I am currently about to leave this system as I recently invested into two sets of Rode Wireless GO:
      My Wireless Go review and uses here in these two recent videos:
      ua-cam.com/video/EgzoUNEw1m4/v-deo.html
      ua-cam.com/video/KBLorAFsQow/v-deo.html
      The reason I went to this setup is because two wireless GO's cost the same amount as this Saramonic. Not only that its extremely smaller than the Saramonic Setup. Both GO units takes up the same amount of space as 1 of the Transmitters from the Saramonic. So when I go onto sets, I have a lot more space for other tools. Not only that the GO is a lot more powerful in its output, I feel the Saramonic's signal is quite week going into my GH5 in comparison. Lastly the battery life on the GO is up to 7hours and can be charge and used indefinitely all day if plugged into a USB power bank.
      Saramonic on the other hand benefits from its UHF frequencies where you won't be limited by signals dropping like the GO does if you're outside in an open field. AA batteries are readily available anywhere you go should you forget to bring some with you. If your Saramonic is going into a good field recorder and not straight into the GH5, you can get some great solid sounds coming from the Saramonic.
      So in short, for my needs I don't require the Saramonic as much, the portability and usability of the GO makes it really easy for me to set up audio with or without a Lav mic. (you'll want to check the video as I explain all of it there)
      Hope this helps you in your quest for better audio! Glad you are putting thought into the audio side of filmmaking as it often gets overlooked. Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!

    For some reason the Saramonic UWmic9 has constant interference when using it, the mic seems like it disconnects and re-connects and causes static sounds when using it. What could be causing this? The channel is set up correctly, the batteries are fully charged and the distance isn't far at all. It seems very unreliable and happens some days and other days it works fine. Any suggestions?

      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      Depending on the environment, you may want to first do a Freq Search on the receiver (I think, not the Transmitter) and it will find the best signal. After that you may want to set your Freq Strength to High to see if that helps. If it doesn't, I wonder if the unit may be defective somewhere?
      Hope some of these suggestions help!

    Hi there, I'm currently on the look out for a lav system and I'm interested in this one, does this system allow for other lav microphones (the ones I'm planning to use are the JK mic-j 044's) or do they only work with the mics included in the purchase?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  5 років тому +1

      Greetings Jack!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      Unfortunately I am not sure if the JK will work with this unit, I vaguely remember that the Sennheiser ME1 didn't work with this from another reviewer.
      Depending on your audio needs, I am currently about to move away from this unit as I've recently purchased two RODE wireless GO's. My review here: ua-cam.com/video/EgzoUNEw1m4/v-deo.html
      The reason for this is because buying two units came out to the same pricing as this Saramonic, extremely portable compared to take with me on shoots compared to these Saramonics that took up a lot of space in my Pelican case. Two sets of RODE w.GO took up the same space as just one of the TX's of this Saramonic. The internal battery lasts for up to 7 hours and can be charged through a USB bank while on break or power it forever when directly attached.
      Now I know the RODE w.GO is not for everyone as it doesn't have as many adjustable functions as the Saramonic. But for my needs where I do interviews, narrative films, and youtube, it's good enough for my needs and allows me to get going very very quickly.
      Another option that I'm hoping to review is made by Deity. It's called the Deity Connect. It's a little more expensive compared to the Saramonic however it has a lot of the same features and even more functionality and better audio quality than the Saramonic. I would recommend checking that unit out as well via youtube. Here what the unit runs currently: amzn.to/2VAtQRx (affiliate link)

      Nope, you can actually do it with one Receiver. All you need is this 3.5mm to stereo split XLR cable geni.us/gt1A9 (affiliate link)
      Make sure your receiver is set into "Stereo" mode instead of "mono" and then plug in the XLR into your Zoom H6 recorder. One voice will be on the "left" side of the XLR and the other will be on the "right". From there you can use the Recorder and adjust each voices level how you want as well as fine tuning it from the RX and TX side if your model has that setting.

      Yup, If you are using a Shotgun mic that has its own supplied power, you can plug it in to the TX and have it work. If the a self powered shotgun mic is an XLR variety, you'll need an XLR to 3.5mm cable. If you are just recording Audio from your camera, the included cable will make the stereo split if you want to separate the TX's. If you are going into a XLR Recorder, then you will want to make sure to get a 3.5mm to stereo XLR splitter.

      Hey hey M Dunivan Photography!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      Hmm, if the Receiver is set to Stereo and the adaptor is for sure a Stereo Splitter and not a XLR Duplicator. The last thing that I can think of is a setting on your Zoom F8 to ensure that all the channels are actually recorded independently and not downmixed in the file. If there is no such setting, then what most likely is happening is that the single file itself has multiple channels in it . So whatever editor you are using, you will add the audio file into your timeline and sync it up like usual. From there you'll have to learn how to look at the files audio attributes and from there you can split the channels so that you can work on them independently if needed. I've worked with Wav audio files that had, I think, 6 channels of audio embedded in it. So I simply turned of the channels I didn't want or went into one of the channels and applied my Compressor and limiters etc.
      Hope this helps!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому +1

      Hey hey Rasebo TV!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      By background noise do you mean a hissing sound? If so then you may not have your audio settings set correctly between your camera and wireless audio. Your camera should be set lower to get a nice clean audio recording. However this is highly dependent on your camera, some older cameras have really hissy preamps so you need to make sure you set the camera low and the wireless audio high.
      If you're talking about natural background noise around you, this is not avoidable if you are in an area that is loud. That means you need to speak much louder so that you can lower the wireless audio kits sensitivity. Its not idea, but thats what you have to do to try and lower the background noise from your recording.
      Last thing to try is to make sure you always do a frequency scan before recording. If you are on a noisy frequency then you will get noise as well.
      Hope this helps.

      @@TLDR_filmmaker hey thanks so much , i figured out that it’s called “white noise “ that’s all i’d hear in the video , i have an example of it on my other channel called “Sean Odigie” in my most recent video called “tickling strangers with a feather prank” i used the mic and it just sounded horrible, and i have no clue if it’s the mic or the receiver or my camera, what’s the best thing to do in that situation when all you hear is white noise?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому

      Checked the video. From what I'm hearing there are two things.
      The first thing I noticed was that the signal seemed like it was cutting in and out sometimes, so this tells me again that you need to do a frequency scan to make sure you're on the cleanest signal when outdoors. Also because you are in close range with the camera most of the time, you do not need to have the frequency strength to HIGH. Low and Medium should be fine. If you have it high while in close range you could end up with some signal problems.
      The second thing I noticed was that the audio was very low from your voices and thus why you boosted the receivers and possibly the cameras mic preamp up really high and thus having all that white noise. If I'm not mistaken the newer Uwmic9 have a "mic sensitivity" setting on the transmitter (the pack you are wearing) if this is the case, you need to boost that up higher so that the mic is capturing your voice more clearly before it sends to the receiver and ultimately your camera. The transmitter I believe should have a "peaking" indicator somewhere either on the sound bars or a physical LED light that will light up when you peak. Try your best to use your regular host voices and adjust the mic sensitivity up one or two notches under peak. From there you can lower your cameras preamp to a good level to reduce noise, and then lastly use the receivers output volume setting to fine tune how loud you're feeding the camera. -12db is the target for your camera.
      When using these more advanced type of wireless audio systems, there is some testing you need to do before going out and using it. What I described above is known as "gain staging" something you'll want to study a little bit so that you know how the chain of audio makes its way to your camera for the best sound. Its not too hard, you simply set your audio from Transmitter to Receiver to then camera. When you nail the volume of each unit in that specific order, you will have good audio.
      I know you said in the video you're just going to return it, and you may have already started the process. But for your videos you may want to take a look at the RODE Wireless GO II that I reviewed in the last year:
      Review: ua-cam.com/video/3TOldrv9iEE/v-deo.html
      Lav mic to get: ua-cam.com/video/jO49-HcwmQg/v-deo.html
      Settings to consider: ua-cam.com/video/dakp_MPQO5Q/v-deo.html
      Its smaller, can save you if the signal cuts out, and I believe overall cheaper of a system.
      It's my current go to for wireless needs and extremely useful when I showed how you can hide it: ua-cam.com/video/KBLorAFsQow/v-deo.html
      Hope this further helps, Best of luck!

    What is the sensitivity option do/for?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  2 роки тому

      Hey hey David!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      The sensitivity option is for how sensitive you're mic (Transmitter pack) will be to sound. You use this incase someone has a very loud rumbly voice that could clips the mics physical capsule, so you turn down the sensitivity. After that on the receiver you raise the output volume to compensate for the lower volume coming from the transmitter. Now you have a clean sound without telling the actor to speak softly. Hope this makes sense and helps!

    But I am so surprised that people still say "Final Cut Pro Eks". It is "Final Cut Pro Ten".
    Who pronounces the Roman numerals when talking about Final Cut Pro 7? (Final Cut Pro VII)?

      Hey TV2Hollywood!
      I think the reason I call it "Final Cut Pro Eks" is because when it used to be Final Cut Pro 7, they didn't use roman numerals back then. So I guess for me I just decided to call it X instead of version 10, since there was never a version 8 or 9...at least I don't think there was haha!

      You will need to use a TRS to TRRS cable like this one: amzn.to/2XgFT6s (Affiliate link)
      Plug the black one (two black rings) into the Rode Wireless Go, and then plug the grey (three black rings) into your smartphone. Smartphone these days are all TRRS, so these audio systems need a converting cable to transfer the sound over.

      Hey hey DJ!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! These will do just fine for a short film, just make sure to always perform a frequency scan from the Receiver unit so that you always have the clearest signal in whatever area you're filming. Personally, right now, I am using the Rode Wireless GO with a Lav mic. I like it for its portability, small and easy to handle and hide on an actor, these traditional UHF systems are large and bulky. Review of the RODE GO here: ua-cam.com/video/EgzoUNEw1m4/v-deo.html
      Don't be discouraged by the Line of sight test, this is only a problem if you are filming out in the side in the REALLY wide open and PURPOSELY hiding the RODE GO on the actor with no line-of-sight to the Receiver. Because this thing is so small, you can always hide it in line-of-sight under clothing.

I get mixed reviews where some say dont get a 2.4ghz mic cause of interference with alot of computer wireless networks etc that work off that band and some say it has issues if people walk in between rec and transmitter. But I also know that the 500mhz band can be jam-packed in certain places or states, not that ill be going any other state and if i did id be doing it for a living and be able to afford something more expensive. There are two ways you can go about this, the easiest way is to simply go into the Receivers menu and change from Stereo output to Mono Output. The second is to use your editor and change your output to mono, I talk in more detail about why you would do this especially if you are running a dual audio system where two Transmitters are feeding into a receiver. @TLDR_filmmaker  5 років тому

      Yes, switching to mono is the easiest way.
      If you are filming two different people, as per the other video you checked out :) you will want to make sure one person is in the left channel and one in the right channel, that way if someone doesn't speak as loud you can raise their channel and the "dual mono" the final video so that you hear them both clearly out of both ears. If you do not do this when you film two people and one person doesn't speak loud, then you cant save it and the video will forever be hard of hearing for that speaker.
      Because you have this system you definitely want to learn how to "dual Mono" with your editor incase you run into this situation. Its different for all editors so I do not know how to do it in other editors since I use FCPX, but a quick google search will always help!
      Hope this makes sense, have fun!

      @@TLDR_filmmaker Thanks. Hoever, I found there is sensitivity level settting in transmitter and volume setting in receiver. Both settings will vary the output quality of the sound. So, do you have particular setting on the sen level in the transmitter?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому

      Ahhh I'm sorry, I misread what you meant. So on the transmitter side, there is an RF setting, I do not have a sensitivity setting in my version (not sure if they've updated since 4 years ago) I have it set to Medium in general as I'm usually not that far away from the subject. Essentially if you are further away you will want to turn this to "high". But for the most part if you are just in your own home studio, you can set it to "low" as sometimes having it on "high" and being really close to the RX can degrade the audio quality a little.
      So basically "low" if you are 3-5 feet away from the camera fora normal youtube talking video. "Medium" if you were say, filming an interview and you're 15-20 feet away, so you can ensure if there is any other radio waves around that you overpower that signal. Once you get to 30+ feet away, I'd set it to "high". These are just the settings I've used, even though "Low" would most likely work for most of them, but these numbers will give you an idea of what you can do. Of course there is a headphone port for you to check as well as a freq. scan.
      Hope this helps!

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  4 роки тому +1

      Ah gotcha, thats awesome! So basically what you want to do is first adjust the TX sensitivity level on the talent for their speaking voice. This ensures that your TX mic's level won't clip and send a distorted signal back to the RX. From there you'll continue as I said above, you want your camera or external recorder at the lowest level it can be at and then adjust the RX output level higher and higher until you reach a good audio recording level. This should give you the best audio level and quality setting by going through these steps.

      Greetings Abergele Pensarn Community!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
      That's a bit strange, my best guess is that you need to make sure the UX180 is set to "Mic" instead of "Line" level as the signal that comes out of the XLR from the Saramonic Receiver is not a LINE level signal. You will also want to make sure that the XLR from the receiver is plugged into the "output" port instead of the "headphone port".
      And then lastly, double check to see if the receiver is outputting a mono signal or a stereo signal. I usually leave mine at MONO when i'm using the XLR attachment.
      Hope this helps! Let the community know if any of these settings help solve the problem!

      I understand, I saw that the UX180 has a "line" or "mic" setting for how it interprets the audio signal, you will want to set it as "mic" as the Saramonic is not capable of sending out a "line" signal.
      This is my best guess as to why the UX180 is not getting audio but your Canon is, assuming all settings and connections are the same from the Saramonics.
      Hope this helps!

I tried switching frequencies and channels, and even turned on airplane mode on iphone, but duh... Considering the price, I'd expect the ambient noise is kinda next to silence! Using denoiser and low pass filter might help a ton in post but then to spend this much just doesn't make sense.
    What's your take?

    • @TLDR_filmmaker
      @TLDR_filmmaker  6 років тому

      Hey Allanngkc!
      That does seem odd, I only have a couple things to ask for you to check.
      1) Are you plugging it directly into the camera or an audio recorder?
      2) Make sure that the audio cable for the RX is plugged into the right port, the "headphone port" has a lot of white noise versus the "output port"
      3) See if you could rule out anything else that could cause white noise, sometimes cheaper LED house light bulb could cause noise.
      If nothing else, you may have a defective unit or the audio cable isn't shielded well. Hopefully thats not the case so you don't have to go through the hassle of sending it back and waiting for the replacement.
      Keep the community posted of your findings.
      PS. With the settings I have in the video, going into the GH5, the noise floor level was approx -60dB

      Anw, i just bought my a73, so will be directly plugging headphones into camera for monitoring. Will do some more test.

      I'm not sure if i've ever seen a version with gold colored lavs, mine are black as well. Definitely try some tests again and see if its maybe the pre-amp from the a6300, as I'm not entirely sure how clean the Sony cameras are. If you have a friend that has a sound recorder, I would try it on there and see if you are still getting a lot of noise.
      I think I did pass by their video once, honestly when buying something at this price, I knew I would most likely have to do some post production to the audio. I didn't buy it for pristine clean audio like you'd get from higher level audio gear, I bought it for its ability to give me two lavs with one RX unit to help streamline my productions.

      My model does not have mic sensitivity. Generally speaking if the newer model has a TX sound bar for monitor. You want it maybe one or two settings less than max depending on who's talking. If you have a -12dB mark on the TX, try to get it around there as the person is talking. This will hopefully keep you from clipping at the mic level and have a clean RX level to work with into the camera.

      Yup I was talking about the Uwmic9. And the newer system may be better suited than the current Blink500 and BOOM-XD.
      The reason I mention those smaller system is because of the size of the S10. If you have a rig cage setup, then it wouldn't be that big of a deal. But if you plan to keep things small, the uwmic9 system is traditional and larger. However it does benefit from using AA batteries so you can switch them out very quickly where as the smaller Blink500 and BOOM-XD requires you to attached a USB battery bank or keep it charging in-between takes.
      Essentially this newer system is a small UHF system that will help with the Line-of-Sight moments when you are further away (based on your filming situation) the uwmic9 will definitely help in this regard. But if this smaller UHF system performs just as well, it may help keep your setup nice and compact.

      Hey W.S.F.!
      I would have expected nothing less from a music producer to have the sensitivity to hear the gate working! This Lav definitely has this downfall with always having a slight hiss that gets into the recording once you bump it up in post, even with an external recorder, but for the price it performs admirably for narrative productions. Especially when you get into the environmental sound design of scene where the gate will be layered over.
      Surprisingly a lot of TV shows I've watched I can hear the gate working much louder than the Saramonic, but I also know those guys are on an insane schedule so I don't think they have a dedicated sound design team.

      Hey DansProductions!
      Thank you so much for checking out the video and asking a question!
      In the most ideal of conditions with straight line of sight, you can get close to 300ft between the Receiver and Transmitter. For my uses I've never really shot past 100ft.
      Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by!

      Hey hey Fumitö!
      Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
      While yes it will, I would also like to say that with the current times the world is going through, pranks are probably not a good idea and I would suggest not doing it, for your safety and others.
      Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

      Hey Flix!
      Gaaah sorry haha, unfortunately with youtube videos I gotta compress everything and get it up as close to -1 dB as possible. Sorry about that!
      Thank you so much for checking out the video though, hope I was able to provide some value! Thanks again for stopping by and I hope to see you in the next one!
