- !!!! UPDATED TESTS here: • BATTLE! RODE GO vs Pic... (May 2020) !!!!
2019 has been a crazy year with how many great budget wireless lav systems there are. The RODE GO took the community by storm when it was announced just 5 months ago, then the Picomic made by Picogear answered with their incredibly small clip on lav mic with insane battery life! Saramonic last week released their new Blink 500 system that comes in at a price point that would make anyone happy. So now begs the question, which one of these systems reigns supreme? Let's find out!

This is a hands down amazing video with such care and attention to detail for all different types of filmmakers in mind. Your reviews on wireless mics are 2nd to none on youtube (I would know I watch ALL of them). Thank god for channels like yours without which I would be completely left in the dark about what wireless mics to get. I currently have the Wireless Go very happy with my purchase decision and I am looking to get the Picomic soon as it is back in stock. I'll use your link, and please continue to cover all of the new wireless mics when they come out. You truly are a life saver, or you could say (a client saver) ;) Keep crushing it! TLDR For life!... Epic channel

I just want to say thanks so much for your time putting this together, I am really in a bind trying to decide which to buy and this is by far the most thoughtful video i have seen out there going over products... (not just mics, but any product review)

It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see! If you are needing a two transmitter system, I do have one I am currently testing and reviewing that will hopefully be completed by the end of the month. So if you're not in a huge time crunch, I would wait and see if that system may serve you better for your needs.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!

You are so under subscribed! 100k in a year man, one of my favourite channels!
Hey hey again Sam!
Thank you so much again for the kind words! I will continue doing my best till I reach that 100k!
Good on ya mate. That's the way to do a review. You get it. Present the conclusion quickly first and then go into the deep dive for more info. I skip videos after just a few seconds just because their intros are too long and typically include some kind of wanky vanity channel branding. I subscribed. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much tcpiptv and for subscribing! I will continue to do my best!
Bro, I wish you would have paused when turning your back with the Picomic system as you did the first two. Giving us and the system time to see it actually would transmit without line of sight. The way you did it didn't give us an accurate review. So, does the Picomic system TX/RX with your back turned at 50 feet?
Amazing review. I appreciate how much details you put into this video to make it a real decision maker. I found myself more pleased with the quality of the review than the subject of the review.Thank you!
Hey hey Umit!

Hey hey Deejay!
Thank you so much for checking out this video, the kind words and subbing!
I'm so glad this video was helpful for you! I will continue to do my best with my review! More to come in this wireless mic, I'll be getting the Comica BoomXD soon to add to the mix!
Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Exactly. Fantastic detailed video. I gave it a Like when a saw that little animation of you going around the house as a green dot :-)
Hey hey Brani1874!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Haha I'm so glad you enjoyed the green dot bit. Well I'm going to do you one better than this video. I've actually updated my audio test method since this video and now can give a much more standardized approach to give people an idea of what these wireless systems are doing and how they sound when put in the same arena. I've also expanded the test to cover 7 audio systems. The video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see!

Another great review. I just preordered the Blink. There's an OSX version of it that I think will work out very nicely with the iPhone 11 and it's dual input! I'll let you know how it works when I get it. Your PicoMic recommendation was awesome. I got it and has been my go to mic for quick informal videos. Thanks again! :)
Hey hey again Real World Endo!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
So glad this video was helpful and that the PicoMic has been working out great for your needs! You really can't beat that 20 hours + small clip on design! I will be getting the iPhone receiver as well for review and I had the exact same thoughts! For anyone that got the iPhone 11, the Blink500 system would be a great quick way to get audio for whatever it is you're filming without needing a bulky receiver attached to it via wire!
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
Such a helpful review, thank you!

Always very nice informative videos
Hey hey Fraz!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and the kind words!
I’m glad you enjoyed this video! I would highly suggest you check out the latest video that updates my audio quality testing methods. It’s much more standardized and gives us a much better idea of whats going on in the systems. The video can be here: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
It’s a long one, but the all audio tests are done in about 5 minutes, as always there are timecode in the pinned comments so you can jump around. I would highly suggest you listen to how my new tests are conducted so you can see how I went about standardizing my tests moving forward!
Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hey man, I never got your notifications anymore. WTF?! I’m glad I scrolled down and saw you again. Røde is your #1? Ok, I’ll get that one then. I follow your advice very closely even when YT won’t notify me about your new videos. Great content as always.
Hola mi amigo!
I have no idea with how youtube does their notifications, I keep hearing from other creators that they don't know why it's not working sometimes :(
Yup yup, RODE Go is still my overall number 1 with the new entry of the Blink 500, it definitely has the most balanced out abilities that should work for many people with whatever they are filming.
Thank you so much again for stopping by! Hope all is well with you my friend! And before you ask, I am still driving that stock as stock 2013 Fit haha!
awesome review... i learnt a lot
Hey hey Fahd!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad you found this video helpful! I actually did a HUGE followup to this video that ads another 4 wireless systems into the mix around the same budgets, but the major thing I did was standardize my audio quality testing to something I can replicate over and over again so that people can get an idea just what kind of sound would someone be getting. The video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see!

Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
New subscriber here! I just found you because of searching for this exact comparison. If ever I've thought about doing youtube reviews it has included a lack of intro. Don't you just want to headbutt your keyboard when you hear the phrase "so without any further ado..." After just listening to 5 minutes of intro waffle. So hats off to you. Great, to the point review. :)
Hey hey Gethin!
Thank you so much for checking out this video, the kind words, and subscribing! Haha I'm so happy to hear you enjoy the format of my channel, it was build exactly on what you described. I know I may not be as entertaining as other reviewers with higher production value visuals, but at the end of the day I just want to make sure I answer people's questions an perform meaningful tests that can simulate how I would use certain equipment etc!
Thanks again for stopping by and i’ll see you in the next one!
Hi. I am Adan from Taiwan. I literally love your detailed review. I would probably get saramonic blink500 first. Thank you again.
Hey hey Adan!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad this video was helpful for you! I love Taiwan, i've been fortunate to have traveled there a couple of times with my family and loved it!

Hands down the best review on UA-cam 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Hey hey DARYAL!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this video, but I'm going to do you one better. I've completely updated the audio testing process and now up to 7 different systems with 3 different lavalier mics in the mix. The video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see!

My pleasure - it was a truly great video! (ordered the Rode Go yesterday in fact) Keep up the great work - John
What a great and honest review. Plus I love the way you teach it really helps me as I grow with my audio skills. Do you have any examples of how you mic up someone with the Picomic? Or maybe a tips and tricks video on hiding mics on people?
Hey hey Jamie!
Thank you so much for checking out this video, the kind words, and commenting! I'm so glad this video has been helpful! As far as hiding the Picomic, because of the situations that I use it in, they don't need to be hidden in the video (mainly corporate event stuff). If I was going to attempt to hide it I think i'd need to create some sort of soft deadcat to put over the mic so that when it's hidden under clothes that the rubbing noise of the clothes will be subsided. If someone was only wearing a t-shirt then you'd probably have to tape it down on their skin somewhere where it won't protrude from under the shirt.
For the most part because of how the picomic is designed, the only thing you see when clipped onto someone is the small clip itself, almost like a suit tie clip. So its quite streamlined and not immediately noticeable as to what it is.
But if hiding a mic is your primary concern, then this is usually when I will suggest to go the traditional wired lavalier approach because the mic is much smaller than the Picomic. There are some great youtube videos that show how you can hide wired mics on a person.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
Straight to the point! Good shit.
Hey hey VENDETTA!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad you enjoy this format and video! I will continue to do my best!
I've actually updated this battle with new audio tests that are quite interesting and more standardized across the board. The video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see!

Your review is long - but extremely thorough. Bottom line, I have absolutely no questions after watching your video. I came away fully knowledgeable about my choices. I did choose the Rode Go. Thank you.
Hey Hey Mark!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Definitely a long one with all my previous tests combined into a video followed by my thoughts! But I'm so happy to hear that you have no questions after the video. I thank you for sitting through it all!
You're most welcome and enjoy the RODE! I love it, easily the best investment I made in 2019!
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
Great review! I also appreciate the "cut to the chase" timecodes.
For the distance test with the Wireless Go and the Blink 500, I'm thinking if you wear the transmitter on your hip using a lav mic, and be conscious of which way you turn when turning your back, it would always have line-of-sight, and should stay connected. Just a thought.
Thanks again for the detailed review!
Glad you like the format for these larger comparison reviews! I agree, for me the line-of-sight issue is a simple fix to simple hide the Blink or RODE GO on the front of the speaker (assuming they are using a wired mic)
The argument I keep seeing regarding this is that its "not professional". I can see why someone wouldn't want to do this with a traditional UHF system, but with the new 2.4ghz systems being so small, I don't think the client or speaker will be annoyed by it being in the front.
Incredible review!
Hey hey DeJean!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
So glad you enjoyed this comparison! I actually have a major comparison follow up to this video where new audio quality tests so you can really see how each system compares against each other in the same scenarios. The video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see!

Good info bro! Define ought in an option I didn’t even know about, that being the Pico system. I currently use the Rode Go and may be getting to the point of needing a 2xTX system. I was already considering the Saramonic. Now, seeing the Pico! I’m really loving the screen, dual capability, firmware upgrade and the growth possibilities. I just don’t know about not being able to apply the lav to me a bit more covert. 💪🏾
Hey hey That Guy Health!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting! The picomic is very covert with how small it is, not sure if you saw my solo review of the Pico-mic here: ua-cam.com/video/pt_goA--zho/v-deo.html
Most people probably won't know you're wearing a mic cause all you see is the clip and not the battery portion. However the major problem right now is that PicoMic has been sold out for months with no news of them restocking. Many have been waiting unfortunately :(
I hope this just means they are updating certain design aspects and coming out with a Gen2 that has even clearer audio or something cause that 20hr batt life is amazing!
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
Thanks for your tutorial) I like your approach to carry the storytelling and like your speech method)
Hey hey Alexandr!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so happy you enjoyed this long comparison and for the kind words! I will continue to do my best!
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
You remind of Jerald Undone for the sheer amount of technical detail, thoroughness and perspective you put into your reviews. Great job! So I am going with Saramonic I guess :)
Hey hey Eric!
Thank you so much for checking out this video, commenting, and for the flattering comment! I love Gerald Undones content! I will continue to do my best with my reviews and comparison! All three, and many more mics to follow, will all fit into certain areas of a filmmakers needs, all we need is the sound to sound somewhat decent and we're good to go!
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
This man needs more subs for the work he puts into his videos. There are useless channels that are cheaply made, clickbait, and not thought out with what is valuable to the audience that have hundreds of thousands of subs (*cough* Reaction channels *cough*). This channel has saved me thousands of dollars not buy crap gear which for most videoographers is an expensive trial and error process. I recommend this channel at work all the time. Really makes it easy to get your company to buy you gear at times when they have a clear video comparison like this channel.
Thank you so much for the kind words S Singh! I love the subs I do have and will continue to do my best to make sure I continue to give the subs meaningful videos that will help. I may not have the flashiest videos with drone shots and color graded looks etc etc, but I'd rather just give the information, give my opinions of how I see something based on as many viewpoints I can think of and thats it. Thank you for being such a long time supporter here, I will continue to do my best!
Thanks for the high quality review.
Hey hey Anton!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad you enjoyed this review! If you haven't already I actually did a follow up with 4 more wireless systems added to the mix. I also updated the audio quality testing protocol so that it is now completely standardized so you can hear exactly how each system behaves. The video can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/t474Bu-7Ftg/v-deo.html
It's a long one but I have timecodes in the pinned comment so you can jump around to the tests you want to see!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! Is so rare to a test this thorough!
Question: can I use these devices on my android phone so they are the primary microphone?
Hey hey Vitor!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
I'm so glad this video was helpful! Yes you can, the PicoMic and Blink500 both with the smartphone cable already. The RODE GO you will need to purchase it separately like this one: amzn.to/2onedgK (This is my amazon affiliate link, by using this link I get a small commission that directly supports this channel at no additional cost to you. If you choose the link I sincerely appreciate you support this channel Thanks!)
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
HANDS DOWN!!! THE BEST DAMN REVIEW CHANNEL OUT THERE!!! Really helps make important buying decisions. I wish you were around a few thousand dollars worth of trial and error of equipment I bought years ago. If only that picomic had better audio. The Rode Go still wins because battery life is important, but great audio sells stories.
Hey hey again S Singh!
Really appreciate your kind words! I will continue to do my best with these reviews to help! I'm really rooting for Picogear to design their Lav modules for people that want to wire up the talent. If the Lav module is the same size as the clip on, or close to, and exhibits near the 20 hours of constant use... now that would be crazy. My understanding is that they are similar to saramonic in terms of developing different modules that all can sync to their PicoStream receiver. Crossing fingers, cause decent sound for 20hrs straight, I'll take it! lol
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
Nicely done!
...OMG! Hugh!
Thank you so much for the kind words and commenting! It's an honor, big fan of your channel and have sent some people over to your Picomic video to hear how you processed them differently and what sound you get! Thank you so much again for stopping by, I'll continue to do my best here, have a wonderful rest of your weekend!
😉🖖🏻
Wow that was an Insanely Intricate & Professional comparison Great Job keep up the Great Work and Thank you for taking the time to do this it was Exactly what I was looking for... by the way the Picomic is SOLD OUT Probably Thanks to You LOL
Hey hey again Paparazzi Entertainment!
Thank you so much for checking out another video and commenting!
So glad you enjoyed this other comparison now that the Blink 500 has entered the game! I saw that Picomic is sold out! That's wonderful news for them! Definitely still waiting to hear if they create an XLR module or Lav module to be paired with their PicoStream receiver, the lav module would be a kill addition especially if they can make it small and last nearly 20hrs!
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!

@@TLDR_filmmaker I've watched it and really liked it. Im spinning around now because the Picomic, the Blink, aren't available and Sennheiser is too expensive for my budget. :(
Aw man :(
Picomic you have to now purchase from their picogear website. They get small shipments of stock so you have to check everyday. Last week they had some stock, but are sold out already.
The Blink500 should be widely available still.
this is so pro! thanks man

Nice info, thank you for that comparison! Overall you content is really great but I believe that you could improve you editing to make your videos shorter. Keep up the good work! 😊
Hey hey again Aristomenis!
I'm definitely trying to see if I can make my videos shorter in general, but a lot of times I find myself having lots of explaining I have to do for the people that'd like to stay for the learning portions. I try not to make too many one sentence statements as I feel its too broad and I could potentially miss a use-case that someone wants to hear about. It of course depends on what review I'm doing, this one in particular is trying to answer the question as to which mic is best for what situations. Trust you me, I wish my videos were just 5 minutes and save on so recording attempts lol.
I always appreciate you chiming in and I will continue to work on my delivery and see where I can shorten things out! See you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Hey there, thanks for taking the time to reply as you always do!
I totally get your point. I also used to make UA-cam videos and I was always trying to make them as analytical as I could, but watching them now, I feel that there where way to many details that probably made my viewers loose attention. Your videos are very detailed and that is great, but I think they could shrink some with some editing magic. For example the comparison with the indoor test could be shorter if you've limit your testing to just inside the house. I speculate that viewers would be more that happy to know if microphones worked well at most a room away, since everything further away is probably unrealistic. As you've said in a past video about what new gear should we get, judging a piece of equipment should be based on our needs and not unrealistic or extreme scenarios that we rarely face.
I don't want to criticize your work, but to really see you improve and gain a larger audience! 😄
I totally hear ya, most recent video I tried to keep it short. As I get more audio gear I'll probably cut down on certain tests and try to find a way to compact the major comparison.... but heres to hoping that I don't suddenly get 10 audio kit reviews that are all similar in distance and line-of-sight tests. If thats the case the my large comparison videos will be based on sound quality and user experience haha. Thanks again for all your support! Working on hitting 10k subs by the end of 2019!
Nice Comparison and a Great JOB! You showed some great pros and cons of these 3 microphones. In my test of the PICO I tried to show total distance and I was extremely impressed. You had mentioned that not many people would shoot using a wireless mic from long distances, here are a few scenarios where you might. Mountaineering/rock climbing, some extreme sports, skiing. I developed my own design wind screens for the Pico that cut a lot of the overmodulation from wind sound pressure. Setting your microphones at the proper level can help and that is done by trial and error. In my test I only recorded 1 channel of audio. That was so you could listen to the noise floor of the Pico without any sound on the second channel. The beginning was shot with the camera mic.The buzz is the next generation of Picomics will be a vast improvement of the current generation.
BTW: Where do you live where there an Audio Tecnica factory and outlet store?
Hey hey AZCAMERA!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Those scenarios would definitely be at quite a distance for sure!
We have an Audio Technica Warehouse in Ohio, they have a clearance sale once or twice a year, its pretty nice!

I have the Rode Wireless Go, but I'm impressed with how well the Picomic did in the distance test. It did better than the Rode Wireless Go. Thanks for this review.
Hey hey again Alan!
Thanks for checking out another video!
You're most welcome! Definitely interesting, I think it might be because the Picomic has such a large receiver so the antenna power may be greater than the RODE. I hope Picomic continues to develop their product line, they are a small company but with their latest firmware update 2.0 I feel it really steps up what their system is capable of. I personally love using it for quick and dirty audio without the need to wire up anyone! If you're interested I actually released an updated video with new audio test methods to see just how good are these mics if they are put under the same stress.
Until the next one man! Stay safe and healthy!
WOW, great job and perfect "battle". But we face 2 problems with Pico: 1) they have been sold out for two months; 2) Pico Europe Store is not opened yet. Right now, they ship only to the USA. So, in Europe, our choice is only between two contenders. Thank you very much for your job. I like your channel and your communication skills.

So glad to hear you enjoyed this battle royale and for the kind words! I wonder when Picogear will be able to open up their Europe market, hopefully soon. Amazing comparison and lots of knowledge shared. Thank you!
I would appreciate your opinion on filming a fitness video indoors, without any background music or noise, where the model has to talk to the camera... Can the Saramonic handle the task?
Hey hey Slavko!

So glad you liked this video! If you're thinking about the Saramonic, you may want to see my recent review on the new and MAJORLY improved version here: ua-cam.com/video/aAKe3kTUv4o/v-deo.html
Yes the Saramonic or any wireless systems will work just fine, the outdoor test that I show is in the absolute worst situation you could put a 2.4ghz wireless mic through. When you're indoors its a very different story. If you are able to use the 500mhz frequency in your territory, the Comica Boom XU is the most solid bet, my review here: ua-cam.com/video/k6tDHGUb3f8/v-deo.html
Hope this helps!

@@TLDR_filmmaker thank you for the answer! I was also looking at a shotgun NTG but the wirrless setup seems easier to handle.
The pro is definitely much more convenient, but I don't have it available in my country. Will have to go with the standard version over the Røde. As you mention in the comparison video, the weight of the Rode is distributed quite poorly.
Great video thanks :) have you try using the mic and jumping up and down doing expenses?
Hey hey Fulv!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
Yes I have actually, I still say the Picomic is the best for exercise training youtubers. Hands down the Picomic is the best for this situation because of its size and is ability to stay in place without flopping around while you doing your working while instructing viewers. I myself used it recently for my own dance instructional videos and it worked extremely well.
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I already bought the Rode wireless go but I have brought the smaller mike to attached to it so it should stay in place better right?
One thing not mentioned in regard to reception ability at distance is the placement of the receiver. The higher a receiver can be placed above the floor/ground the better the reception clarity. This will be true of all wireless mic systems, regardless of cost. In places where there are a lot of people, the combined density of their bodies will disrupt wireless signals, so physically placing the receiver to an elevation offering a clear line of sight will be a benefit. Clearly, the mobility of the receiving recording device, be it camera or dedicated audio recorder may well be limited. A trick I learned in 25 years of working with audio in the meetings and conventions industry. TLDR Filmmaker has produced a comprehensive assessment of these products. Especially well done.
Hey hey Waldemar!

Between comica xd d2 and rode wireless go? Which one would you go for? You have both but which one :)
Hey hey Our Sweet Hideout!
Just letting you know that I answered your questions in the other comment.
If you do alot of selfie Instagram ir youtube videos, rode wireless go is the way to go!
If you do event or 1-on-1 interviews, I say go picomic. Having two mics that can be controlled from the same receiver, with that same battery life, is a HUGE benefit to me because whenever I do these, I'm a one person crew.

I would hate for you to nich yourself into reviews... but damn your good at them!!! 👍
The Pico is unavailable currently on amazon fyi.
Hey hey again ian!
Haha thank you so much for the kind words. This year I definitely have niche'd myself into reviewing gear. I do enjoy providing information to help filmmakers in their gear investing decisions. It's time consuming, but I remember how frustrated I was when I would look for reviews and no one will test anything that I felt others would want to know. So I base a lot of my review theories on what I feel I would want to know as a working filmmaking, especially in real scenarios I've been in (like be directing from an adjacent room while the actors are in the scene room).
Picogear has been sold out for quite awhile since my review, they were suppose to restock in october but maybe they are working on some revisions? Not sure whats going on, but I hope they are still working on that XLR module!
Great video. Many thanks. I do standup comedy and film my sets from the back of the comedy club with a Canon Vixia R800. (Smallish clubs, 180 people max). The camcorder does a reasonable job of picking up the sound but was wondering if the Røde would work well in that sort of situation and improve the quality. Thoughts?
Hey hey Wardie!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
The RODE GO should do pretty well in a small indoor venue like that. I'd probably make sure you use a wired lavalier mic plugged to the RODE GO Transmitter so that you're not performing your set with a slightly chunky RODE GO hanging off of your shirt. Depending on your camcorder, some camcorders don't have the standard DSLR Hotshoe on the top for your RODE GO to insert into. However you can easily use a rubberband on your tripod or anywhere on the camcorder to create your own loop for the the RODE GO to clip onto.
Lastly, always see if you can do a test before the venue opens just to ensure your RODE Go won't lose signal for whatever reason. I don't think it will because I've used it in a traditional school auditorium and was still able to get a signal. But some extra tips to get the strongest signal is to make sure the broad side of the RODE GO receiver, the one attached to the camera, is facing you at the stage (The white RODE logo facing you) This has been tested to improve signal strength and distance. And of course to make sure your transmitter unit is facing it as well (if you can), thus see if you can do a quick test before the venue opens. In my honest opinion in a small indoor venue, you should be fine.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Many, many thanks for this! Much appreciated. My additional concern is with the Røde is the it might not pick up the audience reaction as well as just the camcorder mic. Am I right in assuming that?

@@TLDR_filmmaker yes...your videos are always helpful:)
Great review. I've been looking for a lightweight wireless to use with my gimbal, so this was informative. Have you had any issues with the mic jack on the Rode Go? There were many reports of the mic jack getting stuck in the inserted position after an external mic was removed, thus disabling the internal mic. I don't know if Rode addressed this, so I'm curious if you have any thoughts on this.
Hey hey again Dave! It's been awhile!
I did hear of those initial reports too when I reviewed the RODE GO last year. I personally have not had this happen with my two units. From the gentleman that had this problem, he contacted RODE and they took care of it with a replacement. My guess is by now with production QC having been running for over a year, that this problem is most likely fixed by now. If not RODE seems to have a very responsive warranty dept. But again, as for my two units (first shipment that went out) I have not encountered this, even with all the times I've plugged and unplugged a mic. Hope this helps!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Thanks for feedback on this. I think I'll get the Rode GO for gimbal use, as I've had good luck with my other Rode products. My experience with their customer service has been excellent.
Did you or 'll you have a test of the smartmike+ ? Wojld like to hear a comparison to the picomic...
I probably won't be reviewing the Smartmike+ unless they've reached out for a request. However my initial thoughts about the system at its price point, it may not be something I'm interested in. Mainly because it's a bluetooth system where the distance is a little limited at times. However it does fit a very very specific use case if you only get the one unit. If you specifically only create content with your smartphone for vlogs, it would be a nice package that doesn't need to be attached to your phone with a receiver like the Blink500 B3. But if you are working with DSLR cameras an occasionally smartphones, I would probably get a regular RX and TX setup to be more versatile. Just some initial thoughts. Ultimately it depends on the type of content you're filming as I deploy these three mics very differently. Hope this helps!
TLDR Filmmaker the distance is great. Much better than from rode wigo. Tested this at my own.
Thank you for this great explanation
I have a question
I am a biker and I use a gopro6 camera It was positioned at the rear 2 meters from the helmet What do you recommend What kind of these products is best for me?
Hey hey Jassem G!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
You're most welcome! To answer your question, I'd probably still recommend the RODE Wireless Go, my reasoning is because the receiver is complimentary in size and design with your Go-Pro (Both boxy). You can rig up something to hold the Rode Go with your Go-pro so that both stay in a nice tight package. From there you will have to decide on a wired microphone that you can wire into your helmet, I don't think the RODE GO transmitter would fit comfortably inside your helmet somewhere... but idk, maybe there is a spot you can velcro it to, its been awhile since I last put on a motorcycle helmet.
A wired lav doesn't have to be too expensive, while I haven't personally tested this one out I have heard many good things about this cheaper lav mic. amzn.to/2nonO5V (affiliate link)

can you tell me if rode or saramonic support STEREO MICROPHONE?
Hey hey Massimo!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
While I don't have a stereo microphone to try it on, in theory it should take it just fine. However you won't get a stereo audio on the output in into your camera or recorder as the output of the Saramonic and RODE are mono. So you'll just get a dual-mono audio to work with. This is my best guess as to what will happen.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
TLDR Filmmaker thank
you so much ! All the best!
You’re most welcome!
if you turn around and block the saramonic within 10 feet does it cut out? or maybe 20 feet?
Hey hey again VW Life!
In my full Blink 500 review I do a "immediate line of sight test" to simulate if it gets blocked at close range in the worst possible scenario (open field outdoors). Video moment here: ua-cam.com/video/jUEuy8YsmyE/v-deo.html
I cut out shortly after passing the 2nd line (1st line is hidden from camera view) so that puts me approx a little past 16ft when the first cut out happens. Of course this can vary depending on location, but generally speaking 10ft with the body blocking the TX should be ok. Thats as far as i'm willing to go with my TX being blocked by my body.
Hope this helps! See you in the next one!
According to your test, Picomic is a clear winner for shoot and go
Hey hey Free Lance!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Most definitely, for non-narrative work the PicoMic is extremely valuable to just get some audio without taking up time to wire up anyone. We actually are using it for a feature film (that has since been halted) because the style of the film is more "reality TV" so I suggested we opt to use the PicoMic because of how fast our team usually works and also because stunt fights are involved. This is the first time we got such clear actors grunts during the fight!

This is so difficult to choose. I love the rode because you barely hear any background noise but when u turn around then it stops. Love the saramonic because it can pick up your voice even when you turn around. But it picks up a lil bit of the background noise😭😭😭. I don’t know what to go for!!!
Hey hey Rosey!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Don't let the outdoor test deter you from the RODE Wireless Go. This test has been misunderstood by many as most people aren't filming in a wide open space like a parking lot. Notice in the indoor test I walked away with several walls blocking the Rode Wireless Go, including my body, and you could still hear me. Ask yourself the hard hitting question, how are you actually going to use these mics, and then see which tests I performed matches your desired setup. This is a useful way of determining how to decipher reviews, I talk about this more in my "think critically" series: ua-cam.com/video/3zO9axytfK8/v-deo.html
If you are outdoors and regularly filming 20-50feet away from the camera, then you may want to take a look at this wireless system I recently reviewed: ua-cam.com/video/k6tDHGUb3f8/v-deo.html
Background noise is really going to depend on where you are and how loud you generally speak. All systems do a pretty decent job capturing your voice, it may be a good idea to look up some youtube tutorials to see how can you soften the background noise in editing. Its a good skill to have as mic's are not going to eliminate it fully. Hope this helps!
Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
TLDR Filmmaker Thank you so much, I purchased the rode wireless go and I must say I’m really not disappointed. It does an amazing job in cancelling the background noise. Also the in built microphone is so good!! I didn’t even have to purchase the lav
Awesome! Glad the RODE is working really well for your needs! Have fun with it and create some awesome content!
Pico mic is a great fit for me, but literally can't buy it in australia. So rode it is!
It is a shame that Pico Mic still isn't world wide and last I checked they are still sold out. But at the end of the day, the RODE GO is still my main workhorse, it may be single handedly the best investment I've made in 2019 buying two of them. I have not stopped using them for everything! Enjoy it, mate!

Picomic advertises they have a better range of about 150m in open areas. Did you test it at this distance? What was the max range you got for picomic?
Hey hey vishwamithra reddy!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
That is something I definitely want to do including a way for people to pull up audio tests and compare. Still trying to figure out how to do that on a website.
I did not test the Picomic up to that distance, only really up to 300+ feet. When it comes to these 2.4ghz systems there is so too much at play when it comes to reliable use at long distances, especially outdoors. When I'm indoors I'm not as afraid to go further away, but outdoors I would stay close.
Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
Hi can you make a test for the saramonic blink 500 when it comes to realistic scenario when filming a short distance maybe 10 feet away and just turning your back from the camera , because i think thats more useful test . thanks
Hey hey Philip!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
If you are indoors, 10 feet away with the TX blocked is not a problem (as shown in the indoor test). If you are outdoors, I would not go past 10ft. All the 2.4ghz mics I've tested when filming in a wide open setting, like i stressed test, will usually cut of between 13-15ft. 10ft may still be pushing it, but again this is only if you are in a barren wide open area. If you're downtown where there building and structures around, distance could be better. But generally speaking, outdoors, always keep the TX and RX in line of sight as much as possible.

If I remember correctly I think that price is just a sale or promotion they are currently having and will go back up to the regular retail price after. I unfortunately don't have a sennheiser XSW system to compare it against these 3. I'd definitely love to add it into the running as it would be the only one that doesn't have a built-in Mic. It'll be interesting to see if the other aspects of it will hold it up against the others, though I suspect that it will have more or less the same open-field test results in terms of where it will cut out. That being said, so many of these little wireless mic systems came in 2019, I really wonder what other companies will do in this arena!
Thanks again for stopping by! See you in the next one man!
Thanks for the video. Do you know if the gold dot on the rode wireless go transmitter and receiver just a graphic design or it has something to do with the radio transmission between the devices?
Hey hey ycpj!
Thank you so much for checking out this video, the kind words, and commenting! I believe that Gold Dot is part of their logo.
Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
What would you recommend for someone who will do zoom excercise class? Thanks!
Hey hey Joey!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
While these solution will work for Online exercising classes there is a very nice affordable headset solution that I used for my full setup. The video of that setup and tutorial how to set it up can be found here: ua-cam.com/video/FJrKY10pivU/v-deo.html
If the headset mic is not viable for your needs, honeslty the Picomic is the best because of its size compared to the others. It just goes onto your shirt and you won't feel it as you move about. However it's been sold out for months and I do not know when it will be back in stock.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I'll see you in the next one!
Are there any videos of using two sets of saramonic receivers and transmitters? To test that it works
Hey hey Ben!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question! Did you mean two full sets with 2x Transmitters and 2x Receivers? (thats the way it's reading to me) or do you mean with 2x transmitters and 1x receiver for the dual audio aspect?
If the latter, there isn't a video that I'm aware of since I did the review. It does work, it just won't be a Right/Left separate audio signal, rather the Receiver will just give out a mono signal.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
You win my like not only for your video. It is more about your walking far away the transmitter. hahahahaha
Hey hey 25è Films!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and commenting!
Glad you liked the video! I get a lot of weird looks from people that see me walking like this in the parking lot haha!

Is it possible to connect an XLR Rode Reporter mic, with adapter? I’ve seen units where the transmitter connects to the bottom of the microphone. Is there a way to rig this up for any of the systems?
Hey hey Unstence!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
Hmm... my best guess on how to do this would be to get a hard (non wired) 3.5mm to XLR adapter, and your mic would need to be a XLR mic that has its own power source as the RODE GO will not be able to power a XLR mic. Now you could actually do a wired 3.5 to XLR setup and have the RODE GO clipped to your belt, shoulder strap, what have you, you just need to make sure you find a way to keep the 3.5mm part from tugging too hard on the RODE GO where it could unplug itself. These are the things that I can think of on how to do this type of combo setup. Unfortunately it does not involved the RODE Reporter mic because that does not supply its own power.
Hope this makes sense. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
I’m curious what your thoughts are on the new Comica BoomX-d 2-1 worked mic setup now that it is out.
Hey hey again Jarrad!
Comica has reached out to me about reviewing their BoomX-D 2-1, I can't say I was too interested at the time when they reached out. Honestly you're the first person to ask me about that system too. If it's something you'd like me to take a look at in comparison to these three, let me know and I'll reach out to them and see if they are still interested in still sending me out a review unit :)
TLDR Filmmaker, I would. For the price to what is in the box, yep. I’d be very curious. There’s so little out on it unless you watch international UA-cam reviews. But those who have reviewed it seem positive about it. One guy did some great examples of using both and showing off stereo (which Pico does too) and how well they both picked up just laying on the ground of a convention hall. Seemed intriguing. I’m interested in any interference that might happen in public areas. Is the hardware that supplies the 2.4 ghz worth a darn, plus the big question... is the sound, background pick up, and gain control worth a darn compared to Pico and the winner and most expensive, Rodes. Because of my 2 person interviews on Limeliting with multiple cameras shooting at once, or on my personal channel, and choosing to do all my interviews in noisy public areas, and carry as little gear as possible because of constrained places to shoot... my wonderful Deity D-3 Pro❤️ still has issues boomed. The Comica with or without lav or the PicoGear system (though nervous about the Pico mics actually muting when cradled in the Pico stream) look to be my best bets. But 4 hundred+ dollars and no lav capabilities but compact and very robust (Pico), or $250 and options right out of the box with everything you need for run n gun and guerrilla style drop n shoot styles like mine. Not concerned about distance and would love to see you put it through it’s paces. Phew, lol.
Hey, I got the Saramonic Blink500 B3 after watching your video and a few others. While it works well in your tests, it doesn't seem to work any better than the built-in mic on my iphone in an environment with background music, aka the gym I go. I tried both with and without the lav mic. What I've concluded so far is that 1) you'll have to either hold the transmitter/mic to your mouth or head down to get close to it if it's clipped on your shirt to get a (somewhat) loud enough sound input, and 2) it just picks up everything in the air, which makes my voice unclear and non standing out.
I'm not sure if that's by design or there's something I'm doing wrong. I figured the purpose of a $200+ mic system cannot just be so that you can record wirelessly with no sound quality improvement. Any advice? Or suggestion for a mic that can handle noisy environments? Thanks again for making these awesome videos!
Hey hey Van Xu!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
By design, the built in and lav mics, are omni-directional which means they will pick up sound sources 360 degrees around the microphone. In terms of the background noise, this depends on a couple things. If the area you're in is already extremely loud with gym music blasting super loud, theres no way to truly avoid it with a lav mic because of how loud it is (I know some gyms almost feel like a dance club)
The second comes down to what video recording app you are using. If you are using the build in camera/video app on an iPhone, the iPhone automatically adjusts your audio constantly and will process it similarly to the build in mic in terms of trying to cancel out some background noise (not all). This means if you suddenly stop talking, it may raise its sensitivity to listen for voices, thus raising the background noise when you're not talking. I believe there are some 3rd party video apps out there where you actually have control of the sound level. If this is the case, you would plug in your BLink500 system and do a sound check at the gym with the audio bars as your voice will be the loudest source it picks up. You'd adjust either the apps audio levels or your Blink500 levels to stay in the green/yellow.
This way the noisy background will be kept at a much lower level constantly.
Hope this helps and gives you an idea of where to go from here. Thanks again for stopping by! Stay safe, healthy, and I’ll see you in the next one!
@@TLDR_filmmaker Nice! I've only been focusing on the mic so far and never considered switching to a different video app. I'll try that and thank you again for getting back to me.
You're most welcome! Good luck and have fun!
You may have already said this but what system do you recommend for weddings? Toasts, 1st look, vows etc... also can you turn them around so you don’t see the big Rode label and screen. You would just see the clip. Would that mess with the signal?
Hey hey 63MacGuy!
Thank you so much for checking out this video and asking a question!
In my own personal opinion, I would use the Picomic for weddings because of how small it is and easy to set up on the groom, priest, and potentially even the bride. The clip mic is so small that it won't be a big disturbance (visually). My initial review of the PIcomic is here: ua-cam.com/video/pt_goA--zho/v-deo.html , you can see just how small that mic clip is. I will be doing a follow up video as they've recently done a major firmware update.
Hope this helps! Thanks again for stopping by and I’ll see you in the next one!
TLDR Filmmaker thank you very much. You have some of the BEST content on UA-cam!
