    I think you should add a remote to the umbrella that will open to assist in braking down steep hills

    I can't believe how many people are falling for the umbrella gag. Funny
    Guess Kobuck isn't getting up to the deck huh.
    It is really looking good, can't wait to see the finished product.

    Far-out guys! That rig is gonna be so cool once it's completed. I know I'd live in that thing and chase the sun around until I had no chasin' left in me. This is the first video of yours that I've seen (I think) but I can see that you've done a rad roof raise and the way it transformed the space is phenomenal. It also looks like you did a spray foam insulation and scraped it back to suit your wall spec. You took the opportunity to close in the windows and used RV (?) windows where ya wanted 'em and what size ya wanted too. It's all very cool and I'm diggin' the potential. If I were to customize a bus myself solar would definitely be a must have item and it seems you've got plenty of panels. The star of today's show is absolutely that incredible lookin' rooftop deck. I've gotta tell ya guys, I haven't seen the process that got it to where it is today, but it certainly looks like top quality craftsmanship and materials. The umbrella is the proverbial cherry on top...I wanna move in right now! HaaaHaHa! I'm absolutely gonna be watchin' to see how this rig comes together. I used to be a trucker, we owned car carriers, you may have noticed (or maybe not) the relatively large tail swing that most car carrier trailers have. There's all sortsa foolish formulas and diagrams and nonsense that govern the maximum tail swing allowed. So, the reason I bring all of this crap up is because I noticed the tan bus/ RV/ skoolie sittin' there and there appears to be some kinda box added to the tail end of it. I didn't get enough of a peek to figure exactly what it's function is, but that doesn't really matter for the question I'm buildin' up to...aaannnd here goes! How do the buses fit in on those tail swing tolerances ? Do they even apply? I'm not lookin' for something to be wrong here, I'm just genuinely curious.Since I used to be in a business that was governed by those laws I guess I just notice things related. The tail swing, from the angles I saw the rig from, looked to be a big one. Maybe it's not at all, coulda just been an optical illusion of sorts. I don't even remember what the dimensions were for us, but we had to measure from the rear wheel hub to the furthest point at the rear and then the overall length came into the equation and yada, yada, yada. I guess I'm just bein' nosy...wouldn't be the first time. Hah! Anyway guys, I love what you're doin' and I just may do it myself. My intention was to have some kinda custom coach and chase the sun and show my wife the fantastic sights that I got a glimpse of while I was workin'. I've been watchin' channels similar to yours for a while now and I really dig the whole thing so it just might happen. I've rambled too much. Keep up the good work fellas and if ya managed to read this novel, I appreciate that and I am curious about that tail. Heh, heh. ............................PEACE!!

    With the rails up do you get on the deck by crawling through them? I think I would have just gone with the two side rails since that is really your only areas where someone could fall off, then I would run cables across on the ends that can be unlatched for easy access to the deck or taken off when not in use. Solar panels could still be mounted on the side rails. Just my thought on one way to do it and save a bit of weight :-)

    Glad you started posting videos again, nice to catch up. Amazing having Wess there is a total understatement I'm sure. I suspect the deck will get a ton of use. What is the GVW of the Rig and have you weighed it lately?

    • @theoffgridskoolie
      @theoffgridskoolie  6 років тому

      Thanks bud. The weight was at or around 20k dry. The GVW is 36k :-)

    • @expeditionvehicleadventure2141
      @expeditionvehicleadventure2141 6 років тому

      Chris & G Travels Damn, 36K! That's awesome. Mine is 32K and I thought that was a lot. I I e used aluminum frame where I could to save weight. You clearly don't have to worry about that.

    Out of interest, why did you bolt the deck to the roof. Rather than weld it directly to the frame. Do you plan on removing it? Just wondering, bus is looking sick.

  • @hdlowrider5413
    @hdlowrider5413 6 років тому +1

    Pretty cool. Glad you guys are young and strong. Had my doubts about y'all getting it up there. Is there a max height for road vehicles?

    • @calibuslife554
      @calibuslife554 6 років тому +1

      HDLowrider 13'6" for most places. Some states allow up to 14'

    • @GTLees
      @GTLees 6 років тому

      Yes and that 13'6" is for main highways, there are still plenty of 'em with low clearances with bridges and such. I used to drive a car carrier and we ran with permits that allowed us up to 14'2" (in some states) so when we left main highways we had to pay attention when we encountered structures. Have ya ever watched any UA-cam videos that show folks who didn't pay attention to their overhead clearances? Heh, heh I know I shouldn't laugh at 'em but some are soooo funny. HaaaHaHa!

  • @luckylucy12lucky

    Damn nice work. Something tells me G and Kobuck are going to appreciate the deck. It may have looked closer then it was, but it looked like you almost clocked Wes in the face when you lifted up that first piece of railing. Do you have workman's comp? You guys made me laugh with the umbrella bit.

  • @michaelb8091
    @michaelb8091 6 років тому

    Here’s a suggestion. Why not get some pvc pipe big enough for the umbrella to slide into an mount it under your deck? Would no more look crazy than driving down the road with it tilted forward, unless it collapsed onto the deck/railings.

    • @Sparrowdean
      @Sparrowdean 6 років тому

      Michael B I think the tilting it forward was a joke, they are just teasing the viewers.
