    I remember tornado sirens as a kid in the midwest. One scary ride with my mother from the grandparents farm in NW Missouri back to our home in Topeka and we could see the tornado in the distance. Hated going in the root cellar on the farm with all the spiders. Our neighbors in Topeka had a clean basement and that was so much better.

    That's what I was wanting on my truck I added plywood on my older truck and added rod holders. At night catfishing ide go up and set on top and fish and get tired lay down. I'm disabled so can't set long got to lay on my side. Really want to make a trailer just for fishing. Tool boxes place to lay down can set on the side then lay down. Have rod holders and have a rack to set up canopy being I can't set or lay in the sun I blister yea I shouldn't be a fisherman. But I'm disabled I'm stuck in bed 5 to 7 days week I get out 4 to 6 hrs on the weekend then back to bed and major pain. So if I could build me a trailer to fish off of and be able to lay down and get up fast. Plus be able to get out the weather sun or rain. But not rich and no rich friends. But ide trade what ever I have to have something built so I could fish and camp for days. Ok prob said to much sorry. But love your work been watching alot of your videos all great so far. • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  3 роки тому

      Called Rivnuts or rivet nuts, the body of the "nut" compresses when you install it so that a portion of it is bulged out under the steel. Sorry I don't have a vid up with details but you can likely find one. They have a lot more holding power in thin steel than mere screws, but less than bolting to a crossbeam or something like that

    Thanks,

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  Рік тому +1

      On builds like this I got for lighter stuff, so 1/8th gauge tubing is what I think I used. On a later deck build that you'll see on the channel I used bigger tubing but still thin to save weight.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  3 роки тому

      I go for the thicker 1" tubing for these projects ... I believe it's 1/4" thick walls (but I'm not good at remembering numbers like that). You could do it with 2" tubing and it would be beefy, but I use 1"

    I gotta ask, since its a mobile structure and lbs cost money to haul down the road why wouldn't you use aluminum tubing to build the rack instead of steal? Not to mention corrosion issues.

    • @metaspencer
      @metaspencer  5 років тому

      Aluminum would certainly be good, though I'm assuming you'd have to gauge up given that it can be weaker. The simple answer is that I used steel because that's what I'm comfortable working with -- I don't have experience running pure argon on a MIG setup. I'd love to see an aluminum roof rack, though!

    • @phantom629

      @@garystraws4462 My first preference would be a bolt and a nut, and it sounds like that might be an option for you as you have that square tubing that you might have added yourself. But if inside the bus is all finished, I'd go with a rivnut: stronger than self tapping screws as you're relying on more than threads to hold the rack down. After that I'd go with self-tapping screws, which can also be strong. Note that you want to seal those suckers no matter what to keep water out.
