I was 18 when i installed an 8 track player in the glove box of my first car, a '68 Chevy Malibu. I purchased the Doobies' Toulouse Street tape. Sweet memories of rockin' down the hiway all over California in my college years.
Saw them live in '78. Yeah, I'm that old. My favorite band. My girlfriend got us tickets. Yeah, I married that girl. Oh, Lord, it's been a ride. Cheers
'74 in Miami while on leave before PCS'ing to S. Korea. Then again 50 years later at the Ameris Amphitheater near Atlanta July 13th, 2024. They never got old. Got better. Doobie Brothers 💯
I lived in Chine Grove in the 70's, as a teenager I heard this song on the radio and I couldnt believe there was a song about my little town, have been a fan ever since then.
It was the summer of 1971. We were dirt poor , hard headed , loud mouthed teenagers with a spirit of adventure. Terry Thompson, Juan (Poncho Grande) Fuentes, Jacky Ray Thompson, Dennis (the yellow duck) Dibble, Sandra Lou Bemis and myself, drove to Joplin Mo. to see our very first Live Concert! This song was one of there first hits and we all left feeling a little"funny" after the smoke filled experience....It was a bond that has lasted 50 years.
I'm 70 now and I was feeling a bit low, and then there is China Grove... Now I'm in a world of happiness and ready to deal with this new crazy world.😈👿
Oh wow the Doobie bros china grove, what a timeless hit. Takes me back to my childhood, camping on the coast in California just blaring all these timeless hits. Everybody gathering in the pavilion just dancing having a good time. They don't make music like this anymore, it does my heart good to see my nieces and nephews loving these timeless hits and keeping the music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s alive❤️❤️🌹
Thank God they have been elected to the R&R HOF. This was too long coming. The Doobie, CCR and Grand Funk Railroad were the American bands of the late 60s and early 70s. Thanks for the memories Doobies.
Visited R&R HOF years ago. Not sure exactly who does the voting or the crieteria involved but to have Madonna, Blondie, The Pretenders inducted years ago...... I guess its B.S..... I wonder if it as important for the bands to be enshrined as appose to the fans wanting their favorites inducted. Me thinks it's more for the fans.

Big thanks to the Rock'n'Roll Hall of Fame for inducting the Doobie Brothers in 2020. What a wonderful way to celebrate their 50th anniversary together as a band! I fan voted every single day and am so happy for the Doobies, Keep on rockin'!
@@BigPapiSmack His influence has waned. When the fans were included in the process, that's how Rush finally got in. But fan influence has let BonJovi, Journey and Def Leppard get in. Really, Def Leppard in but Judas Priest isn't? I'm not a huge Priest fan, but I understand their place in rock history and they deserve the Hall.
Who gives a FU@K about the R&R HOF? It's a sham like all HOF's. No artisit needs the HOF to validate how great they are. Why do you people care so much about any band being inducted into a sham HOF? It means nothing.

So many great memories. We drove from LA to San Diego to Balboa Stadium and saw the Doobie Brothers. This was one of their first big concerts starting out. The Doobie Bros opened followed by Santana then Chicago. Best concert ever! By far the Doobie Brothers were the best. It wasn’t even close.
I saw them Live in the early '70s in Sydney Australia! They are as good a live band as has ever walked the earth. Tom Johnston created the true sound of the Doobie Brothers( His Voice)and his bandmates did him proud the way they play their instruments. The epitome of a true, great Rockin Roll Band forever!
I agree!! I saw them in ‘72 in Galveston, Texas. Sad that Tom Johnston had to leave. They weren’t the same when Michael McDonald replaced him. They were never the same.
Bad ass as it ever gets, or ever had been. A song about a make believe place and by the time it ends you believe that place exists. Now that's rock and roll.
I started out in bands back in the 60's when all of us played together and could do it live. I must admit, now that we all have the technology in our own personal computers to sound a bit band like on our own if we can play a few instruments I do it like that now. But it's nothing like having 4 or 5 comrades that can play up there doin' it together. This is from those magic days when groups created great music together, each giving it their best. Today's music will never compete with that. I count my blessings that my younger days were from that time. Sadly, we can never go back. These guys just rock like it's supposed to be. There are probably those that would disagree, but you just had to be there to know what I'm talkin' about. Fortunately there are a few groups left from that time that still carry on the tradition, but for how much longer can they do it? We are all getting on up in age. These guys are just amazing for how long they have lasted.
I remember the first time I heard this song, weekly top 40 on the way home from Grandma’s house. My older sisters were in to teeny bopper music that I didn’t pay much attention to, but when I heard China Grove, I became a music fan. Those crunchy opening chords are still exciting to me all these years later.
