- After a tense telephone conversation with his wife, Appointments Secretary Kenneth O'Donnell (Kevin Costner) and Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy (Steven Culp) discuss Mount Weather as a viable alternative to being incinerated during the Cuban Missile Crisis.
One of the great under rated movies. Top drawer in every department and criminally overlooked both critically and at the box office. Another example of Costners laudable habit of choosing cerebral, intelligent projects that also double as fantastic riveting entertainment.
You don't know what you're talking about, man! I did extensive research on JFK and there isn't anything that is fiction in his movies about JFK, only in your imagination.

JFK had a recording device in the Oval Office, a Dictaphone, and what was happening in the moments of the Cuban missile crisis is accurate in the movie!
We all need to be watching this superb film now.
This is one fantastic movie!

Yep. There would *probably* be just enough time to evacuate the President...I say probably because even that would be a close fit. But no time whatsoever to evacuate anyone else.
The old "thirty minute" figure is outdated. With hypersonic cruise missiles fired from subs off the coast, DC could be hit anywhere from 8-15 minutes.

@@riphaven I loved this movie, learned a lot from it, actually. Back when there was such a thing as putting the country first ahead of party. Costner still does a bad accent, no matter how hard he tries lol.....
Well, let's see. Kennedy launched a failed invasion of Cuba and started the Vietnam War. Nixon ended the Vietnam War, and opened up China, and kept detente with the Soviets.
One wonders if one reason the left hated Nixon so much was because he did all the things they wish they had done, and had in fact done the opposite.
