Black-bear pass was amazing, I got to ride it in 2020 during covid season. I thought Schofield pass was even better with less attention. That part of the country is a gift to us all; my jaw was on the floor all over Colorado and Utah. Please take care of it if/when you go.
I did Black Bear on a motorcycle back in 2001. Right before we reach "The Steps," my uncle crashes his bike. While we are getting his bike picked up and he is resting, a large grouple of 4x4s comes down from the pass and heads down the steps ahead of my group. As we get moving again and slowly descend the steps, a monsoon seson storm rolls in. We are at cloud level where all the lightning is striking around us. It isn't raining that high up, but we are exposed with no cover to seek on the mountainside. All we want to do is haul down into Telluride, but now we are stuck behind 15-20 Jeeps that are crawling and having to make multi-point turns on those switchbacks. I thought I was going to be struck by lightning, not particularly a comfortable feeling for a 19 year old who had reoccuring nightmares of being struck by lightning his entire childhood. We eventually found a wide enough spot in the trail where we could pass the wheelin' group and we booked it down into Telluride where it was pouring down rain. That hot bowl of chili from the grocery deli tasted so good after being cold and soaked.
If anyone doesn't know of the song by CW McCall go look it up. Black Bear Road is a decent song. It's more a story than a song but it's a story to music. So like... still a song. CW McCall (the guy who did Convoy among a few other songs). That said... Kinda want to take a dirtbike up and down. Granted I have no dirtbike experience so I'd need to address that problem first.
I watched in on bleepn jeeps channel first day was crazy glad all is well wondered about the climber till now ;) and was a great show even had another great dude colt these guys are awesome 😎
Interesting note on Telluride, Colorado: The name we know it by now is a bastardized version of the original name. It was said that of you were to go to that city, "To Hell You Ride."
They actually did survive. There actually two dogs and one was missing but was found later and the girl was ejected from the jeep which is probably what saved her because you can find pictures of it online after it fell and it just looks like completely smashed. She has severe spinal injuries however and a long road to recovery.
@@draughonc I found the original poster of the video, and apparently she was making good recovery. She was in a wheel chair, but is not walking again, slow but sure. Been in a chair that way too, so I know the struggle, But at least thats better than still being inside.
Dunking your head in the stream is a big no. Those mountain streams and ponds have very fragile ecosystems, bathing or swimming in them is pretty harmful when shampoo, soap, deodorant, or just skin oils get into the water table. There are signs stating this and most off road navigation apps have warnings to protect those areas. Local authorities and environmental groups are trying to close a lot of these roads, please don't give them a reason. We already lost a huge part of the Moab trail network, let's not lose any more.
Obviously if dude is freaked out by getting into town an everyone is on their normal track after HE "almost died ehile Four Wheeling"...he didn't grow up in the PNW...cuz that's the 'vibe' here two or 3 weekend's a month from the time you're 15yo till that "horrendous calamity" when ya get your finger caught in a wedding ring.......
Thanks Ed for the opportunity to tell this story! People often say it's the best video we've ever done and to make more like it 😂
Matt, you are one silly P.
Thanks for sharing broski!
Great story, thank you!
You did this trail a few years after I did. I had a similar experience but no where as extreme. Love Bleeping Jeep
Glad to see climber was ok even tho he was a made up I hope story lol
Black Bear Pass is 1800 vertical drop in 12 turns. Be glad you got to do it when you did, there's a good chance that it may never open again.
Now this is the kind of content that makes VINwiki great! Real enthusiasts telling real stories.
I remember the day this video dropped, was great content but all I can say is I’m glad yall weren’t hurt.
Congratulations on 2 mil🎉🎉🎉 Can’t wait to see what in store with the next million.

Great story! Loving the crossover into off road! I've done Black Bear Pass, thankfully in good weather..
Bleepin Jeep is awesome
that old mining road is one of the reasons those old timers kept a good supply of whisky on hand
Not going to lie, this scenario would have freaked me out on Black Bear also. What an experience

Been watching both VIN and Bleepin for a long while. It's mind blowing to see Matt in that chair 😂
Matt always great !
Big fan of Matt, BleepinJeep do great stuff. You should get Rory Irish of Trail Mater fame on. He has so many stories to tell......
More like an H2 than a tank. Awesome story

Like VINwiki, Ed and assembled associates. Longed in, because we like Matt.
Lived in Colorado for a couple of years, if you don’t give the mountains their due respect they’ll definitely make you pay for it.
I did that in my e93 M3
I'm never gonna drive on a trail prone to frequent landslides. Safety first.
Great content as always!
That's just a Tuesday in upstate, eh?
My wife says , (is that curious George’s dad or what) he’s also talking about yellow rain jackets😂

@@carlosgirardot7566- Wow. Unfreakin believable.
Black Bear may be closed forever now.
Matt's wife is great
This reminds me of a C.W.Mccall song
The ending was chilling.
Was the guys gf still in that thing?
I believe she and the dog were thrown from the Jeep. It was tragic.

Again, no T in the word 'across'.
I always thought the bleepinjeep guys were homosexual.
They are dummy

Almost having died… ok
Wow, don't you know when a woman laughs, it either she nervous, or you WILL pay later 😆
Come on , you didn't almost die
He got married then started dating his wife? Most people like to take em for a test drive before making that kind of a commitment.
