You probably did get lasered by a cop. And then he seen the car and was like oh never mind.
Yup...
100% lasered!
English isn’t your strong suit.

Proof of concept for using the Taurus.
Cop looking car - check.
Cop looking moustache - check.
Cop engine chip - check.
Cop brakes - check
I don't think the cop stache is a thing anymore.
@@Blue_Flame_Raptorlol I see the joke, don’t worry 😂

When a dude named "Sweaty" is your most reliable friend 😂
Hmmm, Sweaty or _Schweddy?_ 😉
@@danielseelye6005 Either way
It's no sweat!
Don’t sweat the petty stuff, pet the sweaty stuff…😂
I think he said "Sweety" and it is his most reliable "friend".
A police-looking car is probably one of the smartest ways to Cannonball. I'm still impressed by the guys who dressed an Audi up to look like a Taurus Police Interceptor.
Doug and Arne were insane lol.
@@surajbalajr.4016lmfaoooo
Doug and Arne are just masters of disguising cars.
Why don't they hook up with pilot and get someone flying out ahead of them to spot all the speed traps? Is it against the rules?
i don’t even think this classifies as impersonating an officer either. it’s basically the equivalent of having the same model and color of your county’s police vehicles
The "low oil pressure" warning was probably because your oil temps were far too high for just 5w30 to handle. Next time maybe try 15w50 racing oil or at LEAST 10w40. Keeps its viscosity at really high temps, like on a turbo car when you're cruising at 130+!!
Maybe a bigger oil cooler would help?
Run synthetic and a larger cooler, no more worries
The next owner of this car is probably going to have issues.
The piston rings are gonna be toast and the journals will have rainbows on them by now. No amount of oil is going to solve the damage that's already done
Also worthy of note, it’s probably an ex cop car with 100K miles. So it’s probably already had the beating of its life.
We need a video on the car itself 100%
Statue of limitations...
@@olikat8could chop it up like the old tekademics videos or Rob spaghetti's

@olikat8 statute of limitations won't hold because they don't have a video of it up.
Not a bad idea. Hide in plain sight.
Makes me think of the opening of Blues Brothers!
I love that a data guy was a huge part of this. So cool to see what can be done with some experience in data parsing.
That semi truck definitely should have seen you. He just didn't look or drove you off the road on purpose. - a truck driver
Yup probably thought he was a Cop 🤣👍
@@joshbrookes6439 I’d say he just wasn’t paying attention because running a cop of the road is the absolute last thing you want to do with a cdl in a commercial truck that I repeat will not outrun the law I don’t give a fuck what kinda driver ya thank ya is lol
Right? There is no way he didn't see him there. Especially with the convex mirrors, hard to miss anything with them on the drivers side.
@@lukasreagan9210 Not paying attention is still a crime, either way. He should have seen the guy.
If you are driving a lot faster than traffic people see you but misjudge how fast you're coming up on them. This is one of the main reasons speeding causes accidents. On the Autobahn people are used to it, so its less dangerous. With trucks the blind spot is mostly on the right side.
Several years ago, my buddy had a retired detective Crown Vic and you could do ANYTHING on the road. 130mph and people would get the hell out of the way once they saw that unmistakable front end.
Lmao that’s crazy 😂👍🏼👍🏼
I drive an ex-police taurus, but it is in a lighter blue and no chrome center caps. Most people don't notice at all, just doesn't have the same iconic image as a crown vic in the rear view.
Back in the late 00's my friend had one and we used to go park in turn outs or in driveways on the back roads at night with those unmistakable running lights and then when people drove by we would pull out and follow them for a while. My favorite time was when we saw a friend of ours on a busy road and we hit a U-turn so fast that it made a very audible skidding sound and then the poor guy went hard on the brakes lmao. We followed him all the way home. He wasn't even mad, just relieved because he was so stoned
Yeah the crown Vic is was something else. There was no other competition, like today the police car market is diluted.
Now it’s white Ford Explorers
Congratulations. But a fun little factoid, the Cannonballs that were run in the 70’s had less traffic but there were less interstate highways to run on which makes a big difference.
That's certainly a mixed blessing. Interstates have higher average speeds but massively more saturated law enforcement presence and nowhere to go should the flashing light come on behind you. Two lane highways commonly have intersections seemingly every mile.
less gas stations and less cops, back then you would probably just out run all of them
The infamous Ash Fork exit lead to a very dangerous and long road. It’s where Brock and Dan almost lost it on black ice, if it wasn’t for Dan’s amazing skill they probably would’ve crashed out.
I did a cannonball in my truck that's in my pfp. I did to southern California in the desert and came in around 8 or 9 and took dirt roads with barely working headlights using my GPS as the guide it was freaking awesome
Speed limits were also lower in the 70's too. Granted doesn't impact the cannonballers speed, but you would come up onto traffic quicker etc. 55 saves lives remember. :)
Debadged Ford Explorer ST with interceptor wheels, grill ,and antennas. 400hp twin turbo will cruise at 100mph effortlessly. We have one and it sucks on two lane highways everyone slows down, but it’s awesome on the interstate everyone moves out of the way.
It’s great cause it has enough power to pass the slow pokes on the two lane highways as well 😆
I've kind of heard that cops like to harass people that drive wannabe police cars. My advice would be don't try to make it look like a police car.
Except the ones who know.
I’ve always thought the SHO would make a fantastic cannonballer, I’m happy to hear that you seemed to have proven my thoughts correct
i have a tuned 14’ n/a 3.5L taurus with a couple other mods on e85 and it is super comfortable 130 mph + ! i’ve held 140-150 in it for miles through alabama
i’ve heard the 2010+ sho’s will do somewhere between 160-170 stock
Stock they're governed at 135, but tuned they will.
Why not purchase an actual police pursuit Taurus? My understanding is many are actually just SHO with built in coolers.
@@JonnyBeta9not all are twin turbo. More often they are the n/a 3.5 cause they were a lot cheaper than the twins turbos.
Hope those are some Z rated tires on the steelies haha
The story really hits home. I used to own a 2013 SHO, i live in Omaha, and have family that live in Hershey. Which is crazy that Hershey got mentioned in this because it’s literally a nothing town
I was thinking the same thing. I'm from Lincoln originally, but in North Platte now. Thought it was cool that Hershey, Omaha, and Nebraska got mentioned, even if it was for a close call with a semi. Seriously, they're lucky they found pumps in Hershey. Probably should have stopped in North Platte or gone on to Ogallala for fuel.
I live in Nebraska and I'm not at all surprised you got ran off the road. Worst drivers in the country. Too many country folk try their luck on the interstate.
@@adamsabatka1352 As long as they avoided the Phillips 66 in North Platte. They put gasoline nozzles on diesel pumps that get stopped by the diesel safety lockout. They also had no windshield washing juice. That's a no no when you're trying to achieve record pit times.
Isn't that where Hershey Chocolate is from....don't be calling that chocky nothing, lol !!
@@arkhsm no that’s in Pennsylvania
I’ve been waiting for someone to try this with an SHO
Shows the Ecoboost is a proven engine. Ford did the torture test on the F-150 and ran it wide open throttle for 24 hours not including other tests. These Taurus SHO's are beasts! Another idea would be the Ford Explorer ST with cop rims.
And this one had 100K miles on it, at least!
272k miles on my 2010 SHO. I also had an instance of low oil pressure warnings, which ended up just being a bad oil pressure sending unit. Threw a new sending unit on it and warning has returned in >50k.
Edit: Oh I also broke my dipstick checking the oil at a gas station. Stupid plastic handle.
So fun fact the SHO and the Truck motor are two different engines. They really just share the same displacement. An example SHO's are not TiVCT only the trucks. Don't get me wrong I have a 13 SHO performance package and an 11 F150 with the 3.5L. Both are beasts in their own way.
I hope so, I have a 2024 Ranger, I think the 2.3L is pretty established at this point.
For reference WOT for 24 hours is standard practice for any engine during engineering and development.
WOT under load is another story.
The company I work for run them for much longer under no load and then strip the engine for analysis.
I had a couple of ex-cop Crown Vic's back in the 90's. They were absolutely the fastest way to get somewhere on the interstate and the absolute worst way to get somewhere off of the interstate. Off the interstate people would do exactly the speed limit and come to complete stops etc. but they were fun though
When he said worst State to drive through my immediate thought was Ohio. It's even worse for truck drivers the truck speed is 55 I got pulled over and ticketed for 1mph over the limit. Ohio should be investigated by the DOJ for how they patrol the highway.
Yep. I live near the PA/OH line, just off 80. I can go to Pittsburgh and not see a single PSP car on the whole drive. I can't go 2-3 miles into OH without seeing a couple OHP cars. They watch those highways like hawks.
Dude PA police are great though. How is such a great state literally inmediately south of the worst state in the US?@@davidmathay7117
it's good truck need to be slower, in France they do 90, cars do 130. In Canada truck go 110, car go 100 this is stupid af. I've almost been run over by a truck like he did but in the right lane...
@@davidmathay7117 PSP are cool AF even if you do see them. I got pulled in Philly and they let me go after 5 min of waiting, no warning or anything, just said my plate cover was covered
The two only tickets I ever got are from Ohio, go figure.
Cannonball run content is what this channel was born from, and it makes me happy to see it re invigorated recently
I'm just waiting for some madlad to do this in a full blown SVJ or supercar 🤣
Problem is the lack of fuel and traffic. Right now Cannonball cars are not limited by the performance that sedans can do, as the average speeds are well below the capabilities of the cars.
There’s one on the vinwiki channel that made it part of the way in a r8
3 issues
They're not comfortable
They usually don't have room for extra fuel
Cops are gonna light your shit up
Super car means you have less available drivers to help you. And a smaller overall fuel capacity
Apart from everything mentioned above, I imagine the whole point of using sedans is to confuse people into thinking they are police cars and not get reported every time they speed by a Karen.
This guy is rad🤠 But no pliers? Ain't no farmers on that run.😆
Late model 'police' Taurus in black was the perfect 'stealth' car.
And the water pump held up? Cool 😎
As somone who daily drives a former Sacramento County DA's office unmarked FPIS, this story makes me warm and fuzzy. Awesome work!
F250 diesel 2 wheel drive crew cab longbed lowered with 3.50 gears, gear vendor overdrive & 200 gallon fuel tank should make it non stop
Tricky part would be keeping the bears off your ass.
Random KA radar was probably police aircraft checking speeds. In those areas thats how they clock your speed. Good story!
Even in the night?
@@eduardoizquierdo309 yup, chopper has infrared and radar. Could have easily been a ground unit who just didn’t want the smoke or thought it was another cop
@@eduardoizquierdo309 on some highways look at the side of the highway and you will see white lines painted every 1/2 mile or so... Police spotters in a plane or chopper judge your speed based on how long it takes you to travel that distance.
My mother got a ticket in Maine by that method... They radio a trooper and tell him what car to pull over.
Police aircraft don't use radar to check speeds o vehicles.
They measure a vehicle's time over a known distance.
@@BatCaveOz I posted that but for some reason my post isn't showing in this thread for me... Do you see it?

Had the same thing happen to my SHO, tested the pressure and it had plenty of pressure, it was just the sensor, every time it was idling the low oild pressure light would come on.
That's usually a sign of cam bearings going out when a car will only lose pressure or have the low oil pressure light come on while idling at stoplights stop signs etc. something to do with the engines lower Rpms not being capable of maintaining the needed oil pressure with the out of tolerance cam bearing clearances or wear
@@keltonchavis5983In the case we see in the video it was almost definitely the oil thinning and the pump being unable to maintain pressure at idle.
A better cooler and or different oil grade would make a big difference.
Then again the oil pressure sensors on these car seem to be unreliable.
Awesome story, I had a Taurus SHO and it was one of my favorite cars. Tuned that thing flew and held its own against a lot of other cars you’d think were faster. People definitely move for you on the highway too. Awesome idea to use that for the cannonball.
Used to have a 13' SHO with the twin turbos. Sailed it from ny to ca and then back. One time 2 bikers doing wheelies saw me behind them and pulled over, I went flying by thumbs up 😂😂😂
Saw the car at the Cannonball Reunion on Long Island
I love watching these reports. What an awesome accomplishment.
What a testament to the Ford Taurus. I have a 2016 3.5L NA with 166,000 miles on it. The only thing I have ever had to replace was a right front wheel bearing. The car was still under the factory warranty. My car has only seen 110 mph a few times, very briefly though.
Finally someone gave the SHO some love. I had a 2013 with a tune and it always got slept on.
Am I the only one who thinks those Police Interceptor steel wheels look way tougher than those Horrid looking things they swapped out for the Police rims?
Living vicariously through people like you. Cannonball would be on my bucket list.
New bucket list goal...Mark my words I will build something that looks identical to a police interceptor and give it my damndest to make a new record. Give me 2yrs.
Just use an actual Interceptor. They came with the 3.5 Ecoboost. It's a SHO with an HD suspension and some other additional fun goodies that make it perfect for a Cannonball attempt, such as the high-output alternator, HD cooling package, pursuit-oriented StabiliTrak, pursuit programmed transmission, radio hookups in the trunk, accessory wiring for laptops, etc, so on, so forth.

It was probably the Colorado State Patrol, and they were probably clocking someone else.
I get literally 2+ minutes of warning time with my V1 (version 2) out east in Colorado.
I guarantee your buddy sweaty hates that name 😅
"Utah ended up being our overall fastest state" Hey, Shhhh! Don't ruin it for the rest of us!!
I was doing buy here pay here and was stoked to buy an SHO, had my fun with it and put it on the lot. Got stolen a day later and the thief led the police on a pursuit from Columbia MO to St Louis MO and ended up crashing over 120mph somewhere near STL.
As a Taurus SHO owner this is awsome as hell
I had one exactly like this, i was coming home from back surgery in Charlottesville, VA along I64, was hurting bad and needed to get home. My fiancé was driving and knew I needed to get home, she passed two VA troopers in the medium at 105mph and then 120mph. Both flashed their lights but didn't come after us. Guess they both thought we were cops.
I looked at that black semi and it didn't have spot mirrors on the front nose of the hood on on the driver side which are KEY for seeing cars that are in the door mirrors blind spots.
what are the the binoculars /night vision you used?
That broken dipstick wasn't his fault actually. I've only broken a couple dipsticks and they've all been from that same era Ford V6. They just didn't use a heat resistant plastic.
I hate to tell you this... That semi totally seen you
Luv how he xpress the whole run & his team
I used to love the Potenza RE92!
Explorer ST or Taurus SHO.
What an amazing story! Like a movie! 🔥 Please bring other cannonball Racing stories!
Fun fact, a Taurus SHO does not come with a spare tire from the factory, just a foam insert where it would be on a standard Taurus. My folks changed that on their 2015 SHO. I am assuming you took that insert out to make room for the fuel cell.
Before that SHO, they had a 2004 Mercury Marauder in Toreador Red (Maroon), it was often mistaken for a Cop Car at night, and as y’all know, it could out run a standard Cop Package Vic. But the color and the wheels gave it away every time.
And before the Marauder, they had a ‘97 Taurus SHO with the Yamaha V8 in it. But those were not nearly as special as the original SHO, or even the last gen Explorer Based Taurus.
As an electrical engineer who does a ton of data analytics work, Chris... you're my people

Try the Cannonball on 2018 Passat GT with upgraded sports suspension.. I have driven cross country & back 3-4 times & the most recent was on a Passat GT.. The way this car handled with Regular suspensions & less 30% tire thread left, was just phenomenal..
Id be interested in a full list of the stuff you had to change out in order to hold one of those things over 130 mph for hours at a time. Id imagine the stock brake surfaces gotta go and you need some proper tires, to start.

I have a 2013 Chevy Impala 9c1 white in color. Before I changed the wheels and took the pit bar off the front I could go anywhere and most cops actually waved to me as I blew past them stopped in the middle or on the right while on the freeway doing around 85-90. Its a strange thing.

Cannonball micro records, I like it
Before ELDs, truck drivers have been breaking coast to coast records daily.

That's about a 71 mph average, that's pretty good for a 18 wheeler.
Cruise set at 130mph for two hours...*Whew!
Question: Is it legal to display red/blue lights *if you don't use them?*
Retired police officer here and I can say that in the two states where I worked that just having the lights isn’t illegal.
Alabama criminal code:
“A person commits the crime of impersonating a peace officer if he falsely pretends to be a peace officer and does any act in that capacity.”
As long as you don't drive with them on in public roads it should be fine. Private roads or parked and lit up for display is fine.
It totally depends on the state.

6:16 That is not a frieghters blind spot. They could see you JUST FINE... If they looked.
In most vehicles, Including commercial freight, The only blind spots if you have your mirrors adjusted correctly is JUST behind you and JUST infront of you.
I have an idea for how to make a cannonball record.
Use a Class C or Class A RV with extra extra gas. Mod it to have dual controls, like some people do for post office Jeeps.
They say that it's the stops that mess with your time. So, if you don't need a fuel stop, and if you have beds and a bathroom in the vehicle, and if you have dual controls to let drivers swap off without even a second of having no one behind the wheel, it seems like you wouldn't need to stop at all, so you should be able to get a great run.
I like your thinking but I have a “high” powered motorhome for pulling my race trailer and I don’t think that any motorhome would sit at 100+mph for that long
If ya got an idea like that, I’d say instead of throwing it out to the internet, find some madlads who want to go in on that with you! Chase that record!
Maybe go for an LS swapped winnebago or something 😂
@@JordanVeinotte11I’d imagine you could get away with a much safer and manageable speed for an RV like 80-85 if you forgo any stopping
You mean like my 1978 Minnie Winnie (Dodge CB300) with a built 440... we cruise from Kansas to NM to see family, 80 mph, even pulling the grades on I40. Handles like any other dually pickup (van nose) - at 75-80 mph we averaged over 10mpg... and that's loaded with several people and all their luggage - to set it up for a speed run - bolt in a couple hundred gallons of tanks and hit full send... it will definitely do over 100...
@@patrickdahm6822 if you run at 80 nonstop that’s like a 36 hour run I think is you got to be up over a 100 average so there’s times when you will have to run along at 110-120 for hours I just think it’s asking a lot of a motor to go that pulling that kind of weight
Doing that 32 hours is crazy, but as a German its sometimes a bit funny when they describe having the cruise control at 130+ for 2 hours… like I‘ve done that multiple times but then again the german version of many cars is usually a bit different so it can better sustain high speed for a long amount of time.
The difference is not in the cars, it's in the traffic, driving culture and legal repercusions if you get caught. People do not look in their mirrors for cars coming at 100mph, they travel in the left lane, they don't use flashers, they don't understand what flashing lights in their mirror means and the police will absolutely throw you in jail if they catch you. A very different experience i'm sure!
