I had just finished replacing the oil pan in one of my miatas and decided it would be cool to let the floor jack down very quickly. Well, car drops, suspension compresses, car goes back up, and the car rolls backwards just enough that when the car comes back down, it slams the brand new oil pan into the jack putting a hole in it. I wound up just putting some JB weld on it and letting it ride for the next 20-30,000 miles before selling it haha
I keep a roll of mastic sealant tape (roofing / hvac applications) in my shop for issues just like this. It's awesome to put between a bolt and socket to keep the bolt from falling off (blind hole applications).
This happens a lot so I'll tell you how to do it properly (no gum). You may have to wait a few days and buy two items if you don't have them. Item one is a long rod, no less than 1/8th of an inch wide, but the wider the better. Item two is 3M VHB (Very High Bond) tape. Apply the tape to the end of the rod and trim it to the rods end. Wait until you are ready to retrieve the fragment before you remove the tape's red backing. It will lose its effectiveness if it bumps into anything. Nine times out of ten I need a hair dryer or a heat gun to detach anything bonded with 3M VHB without destroying them.
@djmartin4776 That's what I was thinking too. Why else would smoke be coming from the back of the engine? Unless he took apart the intake, I really can't think of any way that the gum could have got into the cylinders while changing spark plugs without directly falling through the spark plug hole, which apparently didn't happen. The ticking on startup is odd, but I can't see how it would be related. Maybe he was just paranoid and paying more attention than usual while the hood was up. The higher idle was likely just been the ECU having to relearn the proper idle settings with new spark plugs that actually work.
I had a transmission line snap off my new Mustang when I bought it and Ford 'fixed it'. That's what the mechanic did. He drained all the transmission fluid and then forgot he didn't change the oil so he dumped another thing of oil in it. I guess he just poured it in with a water can. So they lower the car down, he turns it on, gives it gas..doesn't move. Revs it. Moves like a foot. He's putting it in Park, then drive, then reverse, then drive. Finally the shop foreman comes over screaming to stop. So then they tried acting like none of that was a big deal. I got an extra year on my engine and transmission warranty for that.
I’ve had cars collect sand around the spark plugs, now I always use compressed air before removing any spark plug to avoid dirt or debris from falling into the cylinders.

My friend dropped a piece of an endoscope, like.a tiny sheet steel bracket down into his engine through a spark plug hole. He called me up to ask if it's a good idea to try and start the engine to blow it out and I told him "I wouldn't recommend doing that", which he took to mean "nothing bad will happen from that". I later tried fishing it out with a contraption made out of some wire and a piece of two-sided adhesive tape and it turned out that he deformed the piece so that it doesn't fit into the hole anymore. Ended up taking his head off. You can take tht last sentence whichever way you like.

Good thing it wasn't an engine that you have to remove the intake manifold to get to the coils/plugs. @@VINwiki Who is going to do the AMA?
Already aggravated! Askin'me "Am I gonna get done IS NOT HELPING ME HONEY". Please say something supportive because I'm late and obviously having trouble
lol facts
Should have just blown air in it to begin with.
I started with that but it was VERY stuck
Appreciate you mentioning my name 😆 I’m friends with everyone 😊 sounds great awesome stuff love the content
😂
@@nikkrueger5734 had to be done lol
Did it blow a bubble out the tailpipe? 😄
That would have been awesome!
I love my Volvo V8's.
They really are an amazing combo
Brother not to rain on your parade but you didnt drop it in the engine you dropped it on it or under it... you hadnt removed the spark plug yet so therefor your engine was not open to have anything dropped "inside" Icould see if the valve cover was off and it fell inside the engine that way but my friend you wasted your time looking for it.
i found myself in the exsact same situation with the hunker in the hole but my hunker was a peble and took 4 hours of crying and swearing to remove... loved to hear it!
If you say so, then I feel slightly (more) stupid yet relieved
Would love to hear a story from Jimmy O or Alex from martini works
I know Alex has some good ones!
hope to see his wife make some comments on this one😁😁
This is great lmao
Use compressed air
Tried that for awhile first and nada, it was really stuck 😂
I wonder if all you “try compressed air” commenters even bothered to watch the full video
@@MrRockitt3some people just get excited and jump to the comments. I get folks excited like that 😂
@@nikkrueger5734 good story tho. Anyone that’s ever done their own maintenance has had a similar experience
Worst case scenario
At least it still runs lol
Yellow 9000 in the background?
Jelly roll needs to stick to singing
Whoa shots fired, normally I get Deeks from NCIS
Does this dude have a UA-cam channel?
I’m not that cool lol - but I have TikTok 😂
Riveting story
It gives you something to chew on 🤷♂️
Shop vac?
Tried that even in tandem with the shop air - sucker was wedged in there snug!
Your wife is a 10/10 driver in a Volvo XC?
I kind of doubt it, but OK.
lol as in 10 out of 10 effort, she pushes that car beyond what I’d believe the engineers ever envisioned for a mom-SUV
Kerosene desoves gum. Thot u was a mechanic, so does gasoline
This is why I specifically state I’m NOT a great mechanic lol
Or just be single
But where would she get all her excitement from then 😂
Shop vac 🤷🏻♂️
I tried I swear, it was really stuck!
Shop vac…
It was really stuck, shop vac and compressed air - neither worked
That’s hilarious
Thanks for watching, glad my stupidity could entertain you! 😂
🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
These stories are getting pretty lazy
