About the game:
X4: Foundations has been significantly enlarged with its 3.0 Update - this is the perfect time for space game enthusiasts to newly discover or revisit the biggest space sandbox this side of the galaxy! Jump into your ship and experience the brand-new storyline "A lever to move the world", introducing diplomatic missions. Become the best pilot out there with our new flight school.
X4: Foundations is the latest title in the popular X series of space simulation / sandbox games, played as action games from a first-person perspective in a living breathing universe, with TRADE FIGHT BUILD THINK as the common tag-line. X4: Foundations is unique in its depth, simulating an entire universe of NPC ships and stations, forming a realistic economy. It consists of a huge universe, simulated from the bottom up. Hundreds of stations, and thousands of ships, trade goods among themselves. Prices change based on supply and demand; resources are mined and processed in several stages. This economy is linked directly to the simulation of major conflicts in a universe with dynamically-acting factions. Every player decision can dramatically change the future of the game universe. Step in and live your very own space adventure!

I love the casual "let's learn together" style this video has, you got my sub mate, looking forward to more content.
+1
Me three
X4 travel:
Jumpgate (sleek blue gate) = like instant teleport from Earth to Alpha Centauri
Accelerator (bulky gate) = like instant teleport from Earth to Jupiter
Superhighway (skeleton blue gate) = like flying from low Earth orbit to dark side of the Moon very fast
Highway (blue plane) = local high speed travel on Space Autobahn
Travel drive = local medium speed travel off-road
Normal drive = local slow speed travel off-road
Thanks Tobel!
Thanks for the X-Series :)
This game is incredibly fun, people who say it's boring literally don't "get it" - it takes a moment to get invested in the universe, but once you are - damn, freaking wonderful.
I picked up X4 with the dlc's today, went through the tutorial, and that was all I had time for today. I'm so happy you introduce us to these awesome games, although i'm not so sure my wallet loves it as much. Excited for yet another series, as always, keep em coming!
Haha, maybe we'll stick with a few games for a bit for the sake of your wallet.
In X3, Pirates had several clans and factions and Duke was one of them.
It's explained in a tutorial: shield energy is consumed for boosting (but not for anything else other than shields), so at start (& continuously throughout gameplay) if you're piloting a ship personally you'll want to consider the relative values of running away from combat at high speed vs tanking it out at standard (combat) speeds
matches your speed to your target: useful in combat & escort missions if you don't want to use autopilot 'follow' mode. Grabbing at least 1 person ASAP from a station to act as a backup pilot can be v useful if you come across abandoned ships, & also allows them to fly you around different waypoints automatically.. as you eventually touched on :)
Speaking of which, use your ship's LR scanner to check for most nearby stations/gates to investigate when you enter a new area, & remember to drop satellites near wharves or shipyards to enable remote selling of random abandons you may come across (or cause :) )
The timeline lore data points are revealed as you explore certain 'mini-stations' with your suit; IIRC there's one per sector/zone (including Xenon-controlled), but this may have changed during a game update cycle. Those points are usually relatively far away (from at least trade lanes) within a sector, so a visual scan may be useful if you intend to hunt them down.. plus they usually contain expensive &/or useful loot :)
To exit from a highway easily use : this will stop all engines (& movement, so don't forget to accelerate immediately after if ending within a combat situation) & eject from the highway immediately. It's also v useful in your spacesuit when EVAing for more precise control
The first dataleak you find /that is not part of a specific mission/ will lead you to the start of the HQ questline; IIRC any mission-marked leaks aren't counted for that line, but it's fairly easy to discriminate between the two: the glowing red balls are potential comms 'leaks' while the sparking conduits are plain repairs (or maybe vice-versa - I'm catching up with the new release too!). If you want to scan dataleaks for potential blueprints etc I highly recommend using headphones for a far better audio direction sense!
It's now pointless to hunt for experienced pilots etc on stations (& you can no longer hire anyone from ships, unlike previous game versions): any random recruit from wherever will do as a basic pilot. If they fly around long enough (eg exploring) they'll gain XP, but you can also give them seminars (finally unlocked! Yay!) to lvl them up too. Don't concentrate too much on seminars tho as your initial trading 'fleet' (don't forget to give them support/engineer crew too) will lvl up over time depending upon the jobs you assign them
Accelerators were always in vanilla: introduced in X3:TC they reduced time travelled between sectors (now zones) of the same star system (eg Earth -> Jupiter). You /can/ fly there manually, but it'll take a /long/ time even with SETA (& I'm unsure whether the system will spawn correctly until you've exited its gate)
These are some very handy tips. Thanks.
Really late reply so I hope you're still around. I'm really confused as to why I need to drop satelites anywhere. Its so confusing in-game etc.
@@lycon7000 Satellites give you vision over an area. Stations within visual range will have their ware prices displayed, so you know whether it's worth remotely/automatically trading with them without having to go all the way back to find out current prices, as price knowledge deteriorates over time if it's not refreshed.
Satellites also provide knowledge of ships within their area, thus providing a limited early-warning system of potential trouble spots
Standard sats have a coverage radius of 35km; adv sats have a coverage radius of 75km, but cost ~10x that of their lower tier versions
3:42 you're *disabling* flight assist, so newtonian physics start applying to you. Normally flight assist would take of it through the craft's thrusters to move you towards where you're pointing.
Your playthroughs helped me grasp all the mechanics of this amazing game which I previously used to struggle. Now I am a billionaire and own large supply chains, and fleets of ships. Thanks
So happy you are giving this another go Tobel. You did the best X4 vids last out so this is a treat :)
Much appreciated!
Thanks for doing this - enjoyed watching it, and informative.
Loved the vid, I was looking forward to the come back!
Great style. Learning as we go stuff is superb. Subbed.
23:03 Medium ships goes to the bigger platform, small ships goes to small ones, large and extra large ones docks at pier dock ^^
That ship (transport) you're flying is small ship :D
Just started X4 and so overwhelmed and lost. The tutorials are okay but once you jump in I had no idea where to start so this video helped me figure somethings out. Thanks a lot.
Great video, you've got a good way of explaining how the game works :)
I've not had the best time with X4 and haven't found the right kind of guidance to help get started. I'm only about 25 minutes into your first video of the series and can say that this is, IMHO, THE best series for update 3.0. Your explanations are quite good and your vocal tone is very pleasant. Thank you very much!
Love this X4 series you started!
Awesome vid. Answers a lot of questions.
Very much enjoyed the way you created this content. Liked, Subbed, and commented!
On to the next episode! Thanks Tobel!
I really wish you'd make more videos. I learned a helluva lot about X4 from your playthrough. And I watched your Airport CEO vids.....and bought it!
I'm new to the series and ended up purchasing the game after watching your video. I also am now a subscriber, thanks!!
Much appreciated, thank you.
This helped me out so much. Thanks
Glad you're doing this. Just bought the game as I enjoyed X3 a lot in my early childhood with my dad, so it has some emotional value to it. Info on the game is very rare though, there is no Wikia, not many videos and even In-Game Info is scarce, unguided and has missing entries in it's own Encyclopedia. An "old-school" actual Let's Play with the (as others pointed out) learn together style was just what I'm looking for and a clear voice with a rather professional setup really helps enjoying it.
Glad you're enjoying it! That's awesome you had a bonding experience with your dad with X3. Mine was AOEII with my Mom!
I also appreciate the mode of this tutorial - a very relaxed commentary, yet clear, distinct and easy to understand. I am contemplating buying X4 and appreciate watching and listening to a worthwhile tutorial. Well presented, Mr.Tobel.
Great vid, thanks.
Thank You!
Just want to start a new X4 run with 3.0 , your vid is a great source to get in again. Got my sub man !
Thanks friend - hope you enjoy it!
Good Stuff, Tobel.
that "space highway" transit scheme is neat, haven't seen that approach in a space video game before
Space-Bahn!
@@TobelPlaysSims astro-bahn!
Seems like you just started youtube. Your video quality is really good gotta give you that. And you chose just the right time to play a niche game that still quite a few people want to see, but almost none upload on youtube. Good on you. Excited to watch the whole series.
I gave X4 a try quite a while back and was completely out of depth not knowing what to do. This has really put things into perspective. Also, can't wait to start giving orders to my pilots to fly me around while I sit back and drink, sounds very comfy being able to just hang out in my own ship while the AI theoretically does what I tell it to and doesn't die horribly flying into an asteroid.
I find turning on Autopilot for docking purposes extremely useful in the beginning when you don't have any docking computer. Just set the station as waypoint, autopilot all the way or turn it on near station and it'll dock for you.
Has anyone told you that your laugh sounds like Clank from "Ratchet and Clank" It's awesome and loving the content!
Thanks. I never gotten that one before. So flattering!
I've had this game for a while. My current potato cannot play it yet, but soon I will be back into space.
interesting the name hatikvah.. because in Hebrew its translate to "the hope" :)
Subbed thanks
I'm having a hard time developing the teleport and any other research that requires materials on the HQ. I have assigned a manager, a freighter and built the dock. I've tried bringing the materials required manually. The freighter has auto trade but instead of gathering the materials required, it keeps circling, on a loop. The station has a storage area where I have stored energy cells and the other materials required for the teleport research.
Do I have to build another storage area in the player's station? Since people are not asking these questions I guess I'm doing something stupid.
I last played X4 back in early 2019 when X4 first came out so I've gotta get back into it again. I've done the "X" games since X2 and really miss the mucking about in space. Plus some of the new ships look really stunning. As does the whole game. It's just a really polished game.
One of the "things" that got me into X2 and the rest of the X games was the, "Here's your ship, do and do anything" theory. Even though there's always a story, you could do that if and when you wanted to. And it's always nice to jump into your small ship, take off and fly and land on your medium ship, then fly that and land on your large ship.
And I've seen that huge new Split ship and I want to take a good look at one of them, but haven't a clue what it is exactly.
Great video. Very informative thanks :-))...
polished? :D play again a few hours, find some bugs - but besides that you're right
@@Cray93 - Certinly polished. I've hardly come across any bugs in the game.
The only "bugs" are when you're watching one of your capital ships on the map trying to get through a gate or when you're stood behind your ship's captain and he's flying it like he's had a lesson in flying from Russian drivers :-))...
Love the video ! I've just started playing this and was so frustrated for the first few hours . I'd never played and X game before so the lack of direction was rough for me at first . Glad to see nice content on this game for me to learn with !
Hope you enjoy! It can feel overwhelming but incredibly satisfying.
Love you comment on the size of the ship. LOL. I watched that part like 4 times and laughed each time. Sub'd just for that.
Thanks!!
Egosoft have always created the best space sims - they make ED look like a mobile game. You just have to be patient with them (the games and the company).
Lol from 230+ m/s to 20+ m/s in a split second? This game is nothing like ED.
U aint be stopping on a dime in ED like that.
subbed
Nice playthrough. Does X4 offer any data running, data interception, or hacking gameplay? Thanks!
Haha you had to mention the Iteron 5 :p I starded out in X3, and then I went on to play EVE Online. Since I won the game (meaning by quitting), I'm now a recovering online gamer lol. I mights still go for X4 tho.
Wish they made it where you can like a video when it's full screen ;) great vid m8 :)
after watch your vid,i think this game is supposed to be funded rather then Star Citizen, with a few million dollars investment for this game, could surpass the star citizen by enhance the graphics and adding more alien, landing on planet feature and adding other thing.I said this because this game already had foundation, which good spaceport, function AI...wow i like this
I seems like a really big and interesting game.(so thank you for a new game I am going to get) I have never played a game like this so I have a question. You can walk on the ground in stations so is there also ground combat?
Those S class trading ships like the Callisto you got from the Hatikvah mission are pretty fast. This makes them very good for trading in low-volume goods like smart chips, missile components, energy cells, food, and other stuff.
There are lots of packages on the steam for this game, what should you advise to purchase?
first tried this game coudnt really get into it but the updates are nice!
I’m looking at the X series to fill my large scale space sim ‘need’ as it were, I had fun with EvE, got pretty far, but I don’t have the time to invest in that, I’m hoping this game will allow me to experience that kind of game at my own pace in single player.
How do you look around in your ship?
40:29 I bet you moved your head to right :)
funny fact... "Hatikvah" means "The Hope" in Hebrew - in fact thats the name of Israel's anthem...
Oh those Ashkenazi converts oh ok. Whatever.
And why is that a funny fact ? Your just another dumb anti Semite
Just bought the Collector's Edition for $45. Very happy with the hour I have spent with it so far!
Great Video, but noticed you didn't put Part 1 in your playlist.
Thanks for the heads up!
I didn't know about this game, pretty cool!!
By the way, awesome gameplay Tobel! You seems to love space stuffs games too, so... I've heard about a game called Under Domain, on Instagram they say "it's turn-based strategy PC game, where the player plans and executes a large alien invasion to dominate the Earth" and you can get a beta key on the site underdomain dot com. Why don't you try?? If you get it, it would be awesome to watch your gameplay about it!
Hello good sir. What is your rig? This game looks really cool but worried how it will run.
Please tell me there are nebula's or black holes we can visit? Can we land on planets and explore cities or is it different then SC?
Can't land on planets or explore ground cities nope. Maybe X5?
is there an in game tutorial for all that stuff or the game just drops you in and thats it no explanations about controls mechanics and so on?
There are three scenarios you can choose that explain the basics of flight, combat, and also more advanced topics like fleet management.
feeling nostalgic about the x series (excluding rebirth)
We don't speak about rebirth... I got into X3 from William Ferrell's videos. Great guy!
@@TobelPlaysSims i started with X3 reunion, a friend bought it but hated it and gave it to me. think i played terran conflit and albion prelude as well.
Damn I wish this had VR.
At the start of the game I usually go crystal mining. Still a lot profitable for early game money :D
is there a VR version of x4?
The controls are hard to remember... I have to print them out lol
I see NPC's didn't advance much since Saya Kho and her ... standard flight suit !
I was looking to get into this, but it looks like a big investment to get into, I think with all the content over $100 on Steam. Not sure if its worth that much or if I can get 3 games. Right now I'm also hooked on Bannerlord but that EA is CTD city.
I surprisingly haven't gotten as hooked on Bannerlord as I thought I would. I think I'm just playing the long game and waiting for more patches. I think you could go with base X4 and still enjoy the game quite easily on it's own. The Split Vendetta adds a new race and territory, but not buying it doesn't leave you completely devoid of fun.
@@TobelPlaysSims Thanks for that, rolled some dice (odds and evens) to see if I should get it or wait for a Steam sale. I think the one thing that would have put me over would be a character creator but it looks like the character creation is limited to typing in your name. Either that or no one has shown the character creation.
Space legs?
Reminds me of Freelancer from Microsoft.
cool.
Picked up this game after waiting a year for the game to get better.
Good time to be grabbing it!
Still waiting for No mans sky to get better
is it possible to play this without having a massive fleet? dont have the best CPU.
Elite dangerous latest update = :(
Finds new game in an E D comment section. :)
Subbed. Nice content!
Much appreciated! Is it not fun? With carriers and everything?
@@TobelPlaysSims The current beta implementation leaves...a lot to be desired. Caused a bit of a community uproar.
Hey man i miss your vids
What's your specs for running this game?
Intel i7-8700, GeForce GTX 1080ti, 32GB RAM
i want a jump drive x3
Please god!! Someone tell me how they actually fly around? I am finding the controls so difficult, do people use the mouse to steer around or the arrow keys? I was trying to use mouse but in combat its a nightmare to steer and aim the weapons in combat. Someone please tell me what everyone is doing for steering or controls
Hey Jay - I use mouse and keyboard. You can use shift+space to enable mouse navigation .I highly suggest trying out the flight school start to get the basics.
funny thing, Hatikvah is a Hebrew word which means The Hope.
I'm a avid Elite Dangerous player and just found out about this game. Can you tell me the major differences and similarities between the two?
You can actually do stuff in X4 with your money, you can fly every single ship.
Carriers are actual... Carriers and aren't a shitshow like Elite carriers
You can do stuff money now, like building stations, having massive fleets, engaging war with the Xenon...
Did I mention spacelegs?
is it multiplayer?
You need money to get a good pilot in the split station 1 to 3 stars I think I seen a 4 star but for the money they was asking I ran away lol 250000 to 5000000
x4
Please do leave a comment.
Is this as expansive as Elite Dangerous?
In sheer size? Not at all. You can visit every known system I believe in Elite, right? However, a LOT of those will be unpopulated. X4 DOES do a better job (IMO) about making a system feel "alive".
I just bought htis game with the Vendetta and guess what, im fucking lost though!
It definitely doesn't hold your hand much. I'd go for some basic missions as you get a feel for the world. If you keep helping one faction long enough, they will invite you into a bit more complex storyline. Alternatively, look for sparking red areas on any random station and scan it with Shift+2, you might discover a fun quest that can give you some guidance.
Is that game multiplayer?
Hello, there was some talk about multiplayer but I don't think it's implemented.
Does this game have huge capital ships? That's all I want from a game
Yes, and mods that add larger ones.
Commenting for Algorithm
i pressed the link to buy it, but it's actually cheaper to buy it in steam...
better than star citizen
COMMENT
I gave this game another try. Oh boy what a mistake. OP, and I mean realy OP Xenons roflstomping everything, stupid AI, absolutely useless turrets and the list continues.
But hey, we have totaly ugly and useless station interiors so we must go to talk with every moron in person instead of using a communicator!
Well, back to X3 TC with MARS. Funny how one guy could make what a team of "devopers" can not.
You talk to much.... #forward 10 seconds
Looks like an extremely boring version of Star Citizen.
You're a boring version of Star Citizen :-o
