that was not the edge of the system, not even the big hexagons are the edge of the system, they re maps zoomed in, as you travel beyond the edge, the map will zoom out, so theres much more universe with things to find out than of what you re seing being mapped by the big hexagons, because they all start zoomed in

    Here we go again :)
Nividium fields are far easier to spot from the map once you've placed some resource probes down in different fields & sectors: their range given in the encyclopaedia is misleading (& the police scanner also helps identify 'roids containing stuff by showing them a different colour). Different fields, even in the same sector, may contain different minerals/gases (or densities of same), so putting down more than one per sector may pay off.. & you can always pick them up later, whether personally or remotely :)
Station wrecks do highlight their suit dock ports if in short-range scan mode (& close range), but not all station wrecks, even if the same model, have those ports: it's random
In X:R & X4, different asteroid models yield different mineral types: see the X:R Wiki for my guide with screenshots for the 4 types of minerals available for the different asteroid models. IIRC some things have changed in X4, but I haven't yet created a similar guide for that game (my current Wiki & forum updates are shockingly low ATM :(( ) That being said, the different models are always consistent thruout the game, so you'll know that (eg) an asteroid looking like a piece of brain coral that's a slightly brownish tinge is always going to be silicon, as opposed to a spikier one with red/orange tints that's more likely to be ore. Crystals can appear on any asteroid type, but spacefly eggs tend to be more available from nividium 'roids (altho they can still be harvested from other types, at a lower yield)
IIRC you can't capture/board any Xenon/Khaak ships in X4; for other ships it's possible. For S/M class ships you can get them to bail, leaving an unowned ship in your display (notice no ARG, HOP etc prefix in their ship's callsign), at which point you hop into your suit, fly up to its docking port & repair the glowing red ball of a data/signal leak with your repair laser. Once you've done that, the ship will turn green, indicating change of ownership to you (allowing you to further repair hull damage while in your suit if you wish), & can select docking access just as you would for any other of your owned ships. The better condition the ship is in (including hull dmg) the more it sells for, if that's what you intend to do with your new prize, so it's often best to repair all such ships to 100%. The suit repair laser only repairs a fixed amount of dmg per tick, so the higher the hull strenth of the recipient, the more time the repair will take. NOTE that abandoned ships will (currently) /not/ be targeted for destruction (or re-claimed) by anyone, so if you're in a heavy firefight you can simply drop a navsat (rename the sat for quick future reference*) & run away, to reclaim later when there are no longer hostiles around
*Did I forget to mention PAUSE? While paused (using the pause or P key) the game allows you to still interact with any /game/ menu! V useful for (eg) reorganising wep loadouts, changing ship/fleet priorities or orders etc during a battle, but also v useful for (eg) ship scan missions: if you've already got the target ship within range & scan mode selected, hit pause & pick the ship scan from the menu, pretty much allowing you an insta-scan once unpaused. Obviously you can't communicate with anyone while paused (or at least reply, but it at least allows some time for thinking about your response), but it does help v much with the menu-heavy RT game interface :) You can also use pause-time to go around & rename assets appropriately, even mid-combat (altho I personally don't recommend doing much of this mid combat as I tend to lose track of what's going on :) )
For L/XL class ships you /must/ use a marine boarding party to take over the ship. Initially while they're still green recruits they'll cause a /lot/ of dmg to the ship during their fight (including destroying valuable ship components), but as they train up lvls they'll become more likely to win harder fights (eg vs combat vessels rather than freighters) & do less dmg to the target. You can resssign service crew to marine duty while in space (& vice versa) as you wish, but every undocked ship has to have a pilot else it be classed as 'abandoned' (you can get away with claiming a ship then running back to a station for a pilot, but that leaves the empty ship vulnerable to attack from any random hostile while it has no pilot). Unfortunately you can't assign a service crewmember or marine to EVA & pilot a ship you technically own.. I think: that ability may have been added in a patch & I'll need to check
You /can/ send a marine to remotely claim an abandoned S/M ship if you care (they'll immediately take over pilot's duties), but the extra damage & equipment loss isn't usually worth it IMO
Only certain sectors have (explorable) wrecks: they're not procedurally generated. Some sectors wil have no wrecks at all :( However those wrecks that are visible (once found) are randomised within that sector for their lootability. This randomisation is set at game start (/not/ every time you visit that sector) to give consistency within one game's 'story' (same with some random abandoned ship finds: there are certain fixed abandoned ships that appear in every game at the same locations, or are plot-locked, but others are more emergent & randomised game-to-game)
Now you've finally grabbed that Cerberus frigate, assign the Eclipse to use it as its home base. That way you can fly around in the Cerb (albeit at a slower pace), making use of its tankier shields, more crew capacity etc (don't forget to give it some repair drones & service crew!), & always have the Eclipse available immediately for more precision tasks you'll wish to conduct personally (eg investigating data points, abandoned ships etc). Remove the plasma cannon from the Eclipse as their efficacy isn't good on such a light fighter with little energy available & replace them with more appropriate weps ASAP tho! If you really want, suck up to the Teladi to gain their appropriate equipment access, then re-equip the Eclipse with max Teladi shields for the strongest shield type (altho slow recharge speed) & task it with also protecting the Cerb: that way it should auto-take-off & help in any future battle/defence action(s) you may encounter
As you've found, larger ships maneuvre a /lot/ slower than the light scout you've been flying up until now. While this can be alleviated somewhat by using different race's ship designs, ATM the Cerb Sentinel (that secondary appelation is important BTW) is an excellent JOAT frigate but could really use some maxed thrusters for maneuverability before almost anything else!
Cargo drones are really only useful on L/XL ships, altho they have some use on M ships if picking up leftover cargo containers from battles*. Repair drones are v useful (& their attrition rate is high during battle, esp if you fly off & forget about them) for auto hull repair, while defence drones act as ablative distraction units vs enemy fighters. Any ship with its homebase set to a ship with docking capability (or cargo drones) can auto-resupply its stocks from the 'mothership', so remember that when setting resupply lvls for homebased ships & their 'carriers': you're likekly to need a lot more stocks of (eg) satellites etc than you initially think
*Almost forgot: ship wreckage drops despawn within a couple of minutes for personal drops, & ~4-5 min for cargo containers due to game mechanics WRT clutter tracking & removal resulting in low FPS. Unless you've a suitable ship within ~1 sector of a cargo drop it's usually (but not always) not worth retasking them to pick up the loot (even if you prioritise the order). Pick them up manually using the Loot Magnet ASAP if possible (BTW remote ships won't pick up personal inv (-I) items: they'll simply cause them to despawn)
Ignore plasma cannon turrets on M ships. While the idea seems great, those hvy wep turrets turn so slowly (& recharge so slowly) that they're effectively useless vs S/M ships: they only come into reasonable combat strength vs L/XL ships or their hardpoints (or static targets such as stations), & then only from extreme close or far range*. Similarly for missile loadout: the heavier missiles (& esp torpedoes) require such a high reload time they're often effectively useless, despite their high dmg (& splash dmg), unless used against static targets. If you choose such a loadout you're likely to be swarmed to death by light fast fighters long before you can get your second hvy barrage off, even if it hits :(
*See SilverDragon's whining about such (& many other) things here: ua-cam.com/video/WBcnrbnb8iw/v-deo.html
You want at least 2 fast-firing longest range wep turrets set to missile defence on the Cerb, then I'd suggest similar for the other 2 turrets but set to general defence (for anti-fighter use). After that, the main weps could be outer 2, Plasma (just in case); the others maybe a combo of bolt & shard: the latter does more dmg but shoots less frequently than the former. Set wep groups up so you can instantly select the appropriate wep depending upon the target type & ignore missile launchers completely for the moment (you really don't need the extra consumables cost & storage headaches while still feeling your way around!)
    Hope this helps!

I went with double shard on my first Cerb - it's a real killer once you get used to waiting for your shots (1 or 2 shots smaller S ships iirc).

Haven't played X4 for a while but here's some info from "back then" that should still be valid (if I remember correctly).
Regarding ship parts (engines & shields):
    - Argon are balanced
    - Paranid have best engines, worst shields
    - Teladi have best shields, worst engines
So at least for your main ship you should mix and max out on stats - it makes quite the difference.
For weapons I don't recall if there were any differences, but if there are I'd say Split should have best weapons now (and probably worst for hull).
Hull is hard to tell 'cause every ship is different. Might be that some factions have a bonus to hull - would be Boron then (if and when they come), with Split probably having a malus.
Basically engines vs. shields and weapons vs. hull, with Argon balanced in all.
    Regarding capturing abandoned ships:
    - There's always a data leak near the spacesuit docking door which you can only scan during a space walk.
    Regarding 49:05:
    - Yes. It works like aircraft carriers - "docks" means "space on the flight deck", "capacity" means "internal storage". So the sum of ships a larger ship can hold is (amount of S/M docks + amount of S/M capacity), 2 S ships for the Cerberus.
This is also true for stations! So if you ever wonder where your docked ship went after you've spent some time on a station - it's probably moved to internal storage due to shortage of docking space.
Don't know if I should tell you there's an (or at least used to be) abandoned Paranid destroyer in a Xenon sector where you could get to quite easily... ;-)

  • @MagnusFaustus
    @MagnusFaustus 4 роки тому +3

Hey quicky FYI, but there's a place, south of the HOP (Holy Order of the Paranid) called "Faulty Logic", that is ruled by the Xenon that has both a 'highway' and a very interesting asteroid field on the opposite side relative to the entrance jump gate.
I keep going there every time I restart the game to collect unstable crystals because I found something about the Skybox there, or the asteroids allows me to find crystal deposits incredibly easily. I just sit still and stare at the asteroids for a few seconds and I see another 'twinkle' in the distance. Then I keep bouncing back and forth looking around like that. (VERY PROFITABLE)

@@TobelPlaysSims Well, i don't mean the Xenon.. When i was there before the Split expansion the Xenon really didn't protect that area very well. I sort of just parked up and buzzed around the area to collect a couple dozen unstable crystals. And I think I got harassed by two M's at most.

For a scout ship I'd actually recommend that you buy the Paranid Pegasus scout and then outfit it with level three travel engines (or combat if you want better boost) it is literally the fastest ship in the game, which translates to faster clear speeds when exploring. I'd also recommend that you get level three Teladi shields, going with a Paranid hull and Teladi shields is a winning combination in most circumstances since the Teladi make the best shield tech, plain and simple.

All in all, there is no need to buy any medium and above ships until the income is so big that it doesn't matter. Mediums can be found in the wild, look for the "?" in the map. Large can be boarded and captured somewhat easily, but capturing Destroyers is not so easy, depending on the crew they have, how many marines and how good they are compared to yours. There's the matter of rep balancing tho, which generates more content. Having auto miners or auto traders in faction space helps bringing rep up over time.
M ships cannot be boarded, they can just be shot at until they splode or the pilots bail out. A good way to do this is to use an ion cannon and a weak gun to slowly pick away at the hull, to constantly drop the crew\pilot's morale, but it's never 100% guaranteed. I got tons and tons of pirate minotaurs (they're vanguards) like this, geared them up and created patrol fleets with a flagship destroyer and the minotaurs.
It will take a lot of work, time and practice to get a proper boarding crew to capture carriers later on, it's a really fun challenge :) requires preparation, patience, a lot of practice and coordination, but it's one of the best parts of the game. Boarding is actually well fleshed out.
I mostly still fly a Cerberus vanguard, the turret layout is very nice for destroying turrets prior to boarding, carries just about the right amount of marines for most boarding ops, has drones, it's just very versatile. They're really good to ride those nasty K's, which have a blind spot on the top. Peregrines and minotaurs are nice for patrol fleets, of to just have them on a destroyer or carrier's flight deck for the extra turret firepower. Yes, they do shoot when on the flight deck, which is great to deal with swarms of Xenon, or farm the Xenon installations drone traffic for stuff.
The cerberus can carry 2 scouts along, one on the deck and one on storage. Or something like 2 magpies for boarding ops, that's an extra 14 marines.
Crew can be reassigned to marine or crewmember duties, just move them around. For the matter, when hiring, hire marines instead, but doesn't matter much. Then go pick fights and get some damage in, reassign them to crewmembers and let them get some practice, that along with some repair drones will get your ship back into shape really quick after tougher fights or mishaps.

Anyway, the ZYA might not like you very much, but they're no enemies of the Argon Federation. They won't attack you either, unless you continue harassing them. Check the factions/ standings section on your character tab, they're only at -15 (which means no docking rights, but no hostile actions). It's probably better to leave them be for now, otherwise you'll have a hard time exploring Split territory. Also, you don't need crewmen to operate turrets.
