X4: Foundations has been significantly enlarged with its 3.0 Update - this is the perfect time for space game enthusiasts to newly discover or revisit the biggest space sandbox this side of the galaxy! Jump into your ship and experience the brand-new storyline "A lever to move the world", introducing diplomatic missions. Become the best pilot out there with our new flight school.
X4: Foundations is the latest title in the popular X series of space simulation / sandbox games, played as action games from a first-person perspective in a living breathing universe, with TRADE FIGHT BUILD THINK as the common tag-line. X4: Foundations is unique in its depth, simulating an entire universe of NPC ships and stations, forming a realistic economy. It consists of a huge universe, simulated from the bottom up. Hundreds of stations, and thousands of ships, trade goods among themselves. Prices change based on supply and demand; resources are mined and processed in several stages. This economy is linked directly to the simulation of major conflicts in a universe with dynamically-acting factions. Every player decision can dramatically change the future of the game universe. Step in and live your very own space adventure!

Whenever you or one of your ships is told to drop (illegal) goods, it is jettisoned in a lockbox and as they are of your faction they look green to you. So basically you are relooting your own (illegal) stuff. ;)
If you want to do research in the HQ you need to add dock and a storage module to the station to store all the goods then you can add a manager and a trade ship to the station to haul the goods to the station ( don't forget to add money so the manager can buy the items).
After it has brought all the items to the station it can then start research.
Later on you can add refineries and miners to the station and mine directly into the station. Then add processing plants and factories and make the goods yourself.
Even adding shipbuilding (after you get the blueprints of the ships and modules (most are on reputation level 10. But some of the BIG stuff is gated to level 20 ) but that is considered more end game kind of stuff. ;)

There's a keybind to match target speed, super useful when dogfighting. Default is Shift+X. Shift+C drops a flare. Those plus the full stop keybind are great candidates for rebinding. I'm loving this series, keep em coming please :D

The reason things are pretty freaking aggressive right now is that the Paranid are having a holy war, against themselves, or the other faction at least, a holy civil war I guess. Anyhow, as long as you don't directly get involved in their military operations you can play both sides, that's what I've been doing. I have a trading vessel doing a regular tour of both sides stations, keeping them supplied with Maja dust and soja husk, and sometimes medical supplies, when the price gets high enough. Doesn't matter if you're a religious nutjob, you still gotta eat... =3

After discovering the Split Free Families I immediately sent my trade fleet there to make friends, but pirates allied with the main faction blew up the Genevieve, my oldest medium freighter.
...Things happened and now the Split really likes me and I have mysteriously acquired a whole fleet of Split Dragon class medium gunboats. It turns out when you arm your gunboats to only kill freighters, they get eaten alive by Asps. And if you buy a police license it's perfectly legal to fight pirates, as long as you don't kill them.
After a while I had to take my fleet on the road because it was filling up the entire wharf. Yo ho ho and a bottle of spacefuel...

Dragons really are kinda sucky unless used in swarms: their shield & hull HP are both terrible, tho speed is good! If you want them to survive, at least equip them with Teladi shields.. but for the most part they're really only good for scrappage for cash/parts until someone comes up with a decent 'cavalry skirmisher' fleet AI order IMO.. :(

So my experience with the "waiting for signal" is that they're actually waiting for your signal. For example if you're on a space station and you gave a ship orders without actually being on the ship they'll wait for your signal to leave. You can just open comms to them and tell them to resume active orders.

Service crew won't come with or train up piloting: their focus is on engineering. To gain more pilots you have to specifically hire pilots, or train them all the way from wherever their start skill is by having them do piloting jobs, remotely or personally (if the latter remember to actually allow them to pilot you around rather than jumping in the chair yourself & immediately calling up Betty the autopilot :) )
You don't need crew to man turrets: they're mainly there for repairs and/or reassignment as marines or for other abandoned ships
You can't specifically select subsystems of S/M-class ships to target (the XEN P is M-class); only L/XL-class
With that 'find deposit' mission, the key thing to watch for is the required density: you need to place a resource probe within a certain area (that's /not/ highlighted by mission guidance: only the required sector, despite the little yellow marker. Clue: that marker only appears in the centre of the relevant sector; whether or not it's within range of some ore or gases is relatively random) that meets or exceeds the required density. This part can take quite some time!
Those green lockboxes may have been dropped by your Cerb when ordered to drop illegal wares.. or it may be a bug. Dunno as yet: I've not encountered it..
To find eg refineries in the map, type 'refinery' into the search bar at TR of the screen. You'll have had to discover them first ofc, with a scout or by using more, personal LR scans. Don't worry: there are plenty scattered around various sectors, you just haven't found them yet
You can certainly have research resources auto-traded to your HQ, but first you'll need a station manager (the Boron's a scientist not a manager, dammit Jim! ;) ); second you'll need the appropriate storage module(s) built; & third, a suitable trade ship assigned to that manager. The small trade ship would be useful as a minor trader, shuttling e-cells or other small vollume local wares around, but a single solar panel would be v useful to start with as almost everything in the game requires e-cells for its manufacture/construction
Storages are divided into 3 types: solid, liquid or container. Most stations will require more container storage than any other type (note there is no gas storage type despite its harvestability: gases are auto-compressed to liquid form when harvesting for ease of transport). Your HQ will likely require at least 1 of each type; prolly more for at least containers
IME (pre v3.x & DLC) HAT & ANT sell the most b/p vareties, so getting on good terms with both those factions (ie rep 10+) is a good idea, but for basic b/p's go see the Argon rep as IIRC you already have that rank (I think you visited the HAT rep - the lady with the big bush - when you looked at potential b/p buying, hence so few available). Since your HQ is currently located in Teladi space you could also consider buying designs from Teladi: they only require a bunch of cash for initial advancement..
NOTE that different race's b/p's often require different construction materials (& their food requirements differ too, once you start properly staffing your station(s) ), as do their ship/wep designs, so take that into account when constructing your station(s)
When designing freighters, you should have at least 1 bolt turret set to missile defence. While flak deals AoE dmg, it fires too slowly for effective MD, & beam weps do so little dmg that their efficacy is v poor, even vs drones. What's required is something that can escape/evade combat with as little dmg as possible, ASAP, not something that can destroy even small ships (esp any random hostile cop)! You also don't need dock Mk2 on your automated ships unless planning to use them personally at some stage, which can be useful but is unnecessary ATM.. & don't forget to assign cargo & repair drones if you can, plus some service crew to use them should it be necessary
Improved thrusters make the ship more maneuverable in different axes of rotation - useful in a freighter/miner (or indeed any M+ ship) because the game AI for automated ships lines the ship up first before engaging travel drive - while different engine types (& race of manufacture) trade off local/boost max speed & warmup times for travel drive max speed & warmup times. Teladi shields are strongest but have low recharge speed, but hulls (& engines) are v slow albeit with reasonable CC - possibly better as miners; Paranid hulls are a good combination between speed & hull HP for combat ships while tending to be lower on cargo capacity; while Argon's Mercury freighters & Drill miners are excellent traders (ARG combat ships are mostly middle pick overall). Split stuff.. well they have crap hull HP & shields but excellent speed & firepower, reflecting their racial lore traits (like the other major races): Charge in & kill everything, who cares about defence?! :)

@@TobelPlaysSims Every gamestart gives the opportunity to gain the HQ, which is a v useful factory-setup tutorial, so don't regard it as cheesy/cheatsy unless you're deliberately avoiding it for RP purposes (altho once you've done the initial contact you can pretty much ignore it for the rest if you wish) :)
All fixed deployments (eg minefields, asteroids) tend to only cover the ecliptic of the local system, so it's a valid tactic to power up/down out of that plane to avoid the worst of potential dmg dealt, then max power towards a gate to avoid further dmg
The HQ is also extremely useful for learning about fleet/trade management, & ofc you can't do research without it, so it's kinda necessary. You don't have to choose to turn it into a megafab ofc: you can still place other stations wherever you want & ignore the HQ's potential in that area, or simply use it as a storage station: you do you! :)

The last X game I played was X3 albion prelude and from what I can tell, this game has done a fantastic job of making the grind way less... grind. Gone are the days where the AI offers you a very hard combat mission with 30 minutes on the timer and a 9000 credit payout. Also that Cerberus is a Frigate? I can't believe they've upped the abandoned ships to include frigates and such. Seems like such a powerful acquisition considering it came fully loaded with guns and shields and everything.

I would like to state before making a factual correction that I pre-orderd the game and have over 1551 hours in the game. I have a recent within the week start using Young Gun that I'm up 6m with 2 mining fleets with the acquired abandoned Osprey and Odysseus with a captured Nemesis Sentinel that I captured with the Elite after capping a couple of Minotaur Raiders to sell. All of this in a little over just 3 hours. Most of that being sitting around and doing nothing while miners get me rep. I don't care for the economy stuff at all so I can say that I rely on the AI to do that for me. Having said that I have to know how they work. It's factually correct that Piloting is what determines what jobs or formations they can do. Piloting for those that have played X Rebirth is the combination of Navigation and Combat Skill. Make sure the captain is going into the fourth star. The third star has to be completely filled in. Or It's not going to be able to do a 3 star pilot job. Please note that I do not play with mods.

    • @wolfhound146
      @wolfhound146 4 роки тому +3

Also regarding fleets they are better off being left to ai ships only. Or alternatively you need to place a guidance point and autopilot to it. Doing so will keep your ship and the winged up ships together. The problem is the AI does not know how to follow a player because it's no longer following a set script. It's playing catch up and it follows your last action. It can be most visually seen when telling a ship to dock on a frigate and you fly off. It will go to your last location and then fly to you to dock. I hope this clears that up.
