Freedom to personally fly all ships:
X4 will allow you to fly all ships personally. From small scouts over a wide range of ship classes up to the biggest carrier, everything can be piloted from the cockpit or an external view.
A big focus in the development of X4 has been to achieve a seamless and immersive experience when moving between ships.
Modular stations and ship upgrades:
Building space stations and factories has always been a foundation of the X games. After gaining enough money through fighting or trading, most players want to establish their own economy and start influencing the universe on a larger scale. In X4, it is now possible to be completely free and creative. Stations can be constructed from a variety of modules, be it production modules, living sections, docks or many other types of parts. The powerful new map system allows you to drag and connect modules using a connection system to design your own unique creations.
Most dynamic X universe ever:
X4 will be the first X game to allow our races and factions to freely build and expand their empires; the same flexibility the player enjoys in creatively designing space stations from modular building blocks is also available to them. Races expand their empire based on supply and demand, which leads to an extremely dynamic universe where every action the player makes can influence the course of the entire universe.
Managing your empire with a powerful map:
Once you have more ships and many NPCs working for you as pilots, crew or station managers, the map will be your preferred method of managing it all. Ships can be ordered with simple clicks and through drag-and-drop operations to set their future path and commands.
Most detailed X economy ever:
One of the key selling points of X games has always been the realistic, simulated economy. Wares produced by hundreds of stations and transported by thousands of ships are actually traded by NPCs and prices develop based on this simulated economy. This is the foundation of our living and breathing universe. Now with X4, we have taken another, massive step. For the first time in any X game, all parts of the NPC economy are manufactured from resources. Ships, weapons, upgrades, ammo and even stations. You name it. Everything comes out of the simulated economy.
Research and Teleportation:
The seamless change from ship to ship and from NPCs controlling your empire for you continues on a higher level. Once you own a larger fleet, you will be very interested in researching a technology from your HQ: Teleportation. Once you've unlocked teleportation, you can jump from ship to ship a lot quicker and experience all the critical situations your NPCs encounter first hand. Every order you have given to a ship before turns into a mission objective when you pilot the ship yourself. The moment you leave again, your pilot takes the helm and continues with their previous orders.

I already put quite some time into the game and learned a lot by myself but the thing that I don't have to zoom in on a station to tell my trader to buy/sell there is absolutely golden tip. Right clicking the offer straith in zoom out state opens the trade with that station. Got it. Real MVP you are.
Another great guide. Very high quality and very clear. Might be worth posting the video in the X4 sub reddit if you haven't already, they would appreciate it there.

Thing i got wrong or did not know:
TENGILL From UA-cam:
Just a heads up that after the 1.5 patch, you can no longer set up auto trading by right clicking on the map.
They removed this feature and now you have to do it from the ship information box.
Yes that is right, you now have to manually add the wares you want to trade, so no more auto filling the wares list. :(

I might note that queuing up AI trader ship orders will 'reserve' those trades with stations. Reserved trades are guaranteed to happen and will not allow other AI traders not owned by you to sell or buy the goods your owned ship is queued to buy or sell before it can physically get there.
MagicSquid From UA-cam:
Default Behaviour allows you to assign an action to the ship when it doesn't immediately have other orders to follow. For instance, I tell my trade ships to have a default behaviour of going to dock at the Argon Wharf station. This way, if any of them stop trading or I have one do a manual trade and forget about it, they just go dock up there and wait patiently, rather than potentially getting blown up out in space.
Ulitma 9999 From UA-cam:
When a ship is found by the NPC pilots you can go to the player information / logbook and find the message , there is a small triangle on the right side of this message and if you click on it the found ship will be shown on the map so you can set guidance to it and claim it .
Sometimes the NPC cannot claim the ship for you , and sometimes a found ship can be hard to spot , this way you will never loose any.

I just started X4 Foundations. I have to admit the tutorials are OK but the trade just didn't cut it. Your tutorial is awesome and even though you got seemingly fast I did get the gist of it. Did you ever come up for a breath of fresh air. I tried over and over with entry ship and just wanted to give up but I'm not a quitter. I have PTSD and believe it or not my psychologist at the Veterans Medical Hospital encouraged me to get involve with gaming. I'm pretty much a single player type but this game caught my attention. Your video helped me to understand the Trade Industry format and you hit home with this. I played this over 3 times now because grasping all of what you were explaining was awesome. I would love to see a written format one day but being as you said a family man we have other straight forward responsibilities. Thanks you sir and your handle is it an acronym for like being a straight forward guy? It's cool no mater what.
I am late to the game, was an avid X3 player and now have a little time on my hands so I picked up X4. Like all X games it is not intuitive by any means so I could not figure out how to find lucrative deals. Your guide helped me a lot and it explaines everything perfectly. Thank you very much for the work you put in this video, it is much appreciated even after one and half years.
Great, now because of you i have to convert my bad review into an apology review on Steam because this very flaw of captains disobeying orders by eternally being in a holding pattern and waiting for orders and not knowing how to set up trade routes nearly broke the game for me.
This review really explained the most major flaw i have found in the review. Which is managing multiple ships. The DEVS would be wise to include this link to the video or build a mission to talk a player through it.
Now i will watch your manual vs. auto mining as that is where i found the issue. Will try to add your video link(s) to my review.
Now if only attaching space station modules were easier than trying to glue tooth picks end to end while floating in space....
Great job and thank you for making this video! Once these concepts are understood by a player, it looks like a decent tutorial on how to manage a business in real life in terms of a general view of things....but then there are politicians and taxes that try to ruin certain aspects so no point going there ha ha!

It's always frustrating making manual trade runs yourself only to arrive at a station that has already received goods you were going to sell to it.

-Capture a station?
-how to invade and take over a sector (yes you did one but it was empty)
-how to efficiently setting up squadrons?

I did not know you could capture a station? if this is true then i'm totally going to do that in my current game and make a guide on it when i know exactly how it all works. As for setting up squadrons i'll have to wait until I've actually messed around with this mechanic myself and when Egosoft fixes some of the problems that are a part of this mechanic :)

I would personally like to request a boarding tutorial from you. More specifically, having a squad of multiple ships board a target for you. As most M sized ships can only hold 8-16 marines at most, a single one of these ships is not enough to successfully capture a target like a destroyer or even construction vessel.
Noodle - The mighty Noodle shall provide, once he has actually done anything combat based gameplay in his game.

Thank you. The game developers fucked up when they made the "tutorials". I played Eve and Elite in the high-end content, and this game is doing a worse job at explaining the ropes. Its amazing how every great space sim seem to strive at making their game having such an incredibly high learning curve that it makes people delete it and never come back. Thank you for explaining this in a very easy manner.
Very helpfull to set up manual trader before the skills is good enough for auto trading.. Played like 600+ hours, and never set myself into this, but had to know that all the captains have 0 skills in training after expansion and version 3.0

If advanced satellite would cost 8-10 times more then yes, maybe, otherwise just use regular.
Usually I cover 2-3 stations with regular satellite so I'd need to cover 40 stations with advanced to justify its cost :)
Also every order can be assigned from ships list, no need to hunt it down on the map.

I should be able to run the game completely fine with what i have ua-cam.com/users/TheRealNoodleabout but for some reason it lags and crashes quite often. the last time i tried playing it was about 2 - 3 weeks ago.

You need to update this for 2020. Lot of stuff has changed and has become even more obtuse.. so hard to find good information on this game. Anyways, well done. Enjoyed the video even if it didn't quite help me since you can't just click on a ship and tell it to trade wares anymore. It's wayyyyyy more and wayyyyyy too complicated now.. xD

FYI, the process at 14:34 has been removed in beta patch 1.5. You can't do Autotrade without 3 stars trained captain and by using the Default Behavior thing now.

I think that's why someone on reddit strongly requested we be able to easily identify and choose levels of captns.
So, by manual trading, you have to choose each and every purchase and sale? Meaning you have to wait til they buy the product and then and only then, select the location for the sale?
@@jwm7429 that's correct but you can queue up multiple trips for the trader so you don't have to micromanage it so much.

like the beginning, you talk about the necessaries of a trade, run like the reading/use the a map, stocking up on satellites, buying ships for trade run.. etc

But i don't really have the time do this for my videos along with making them, also everything else in my life takes a lot of my time too. When auto-guiding a ship to drop satellites near station, we can only drop satellites in the map plan. This can make station that are too much above or below the plan to not be in range of the satellite!
Also when dropping "manually" a satellite between 2 close stations that are above or below the plan, the satellite radius looks incorrect because it is the radius of detection where it intersect with the map plan i think...

I tried to pick up energy credits in a miner which was able to carry solids. While docked at the solar plant, I couldn't see anything that told me energy credits were not solids and, despite my cargo hold being empty, I was seeing a message saying my ship's hold was full.
I'll assume they are containers and that I require a "transporter" (or courier?) to carry out the trade, and that the error message was simply a mistake.

What a fantastic guide well put together am sure it will help me and many others keep up the great work. One thing i seem to be having problems with is. i built a station but it does not seem to be getting cargo drones if you could help in this matter i would be greatful
Noodle - Here is a Copy/Paste of what i told someone else:
The drones take time and resources to be built. these resources will be ordered in by your station when it has more than it's recommended minimum budget, the more it goes over this budget, the more resources it can buy in to build the drones.
