    Watching you explain upstream v. downstream spin fishing, with bugs popping behind you is difficult as a fly fisherman lol. I will say though, I learned something of value. Fish the excess water on side of the road b/c according to your expert spin fisherman friend, that's where they are. Cool video, excited for the series in CO. Good job man, tight lines!

      Yeah I 100% caught some trout on dry flies just after that little interview. I (of course) had my fly rod with me. Colorado is a different beast and I can't wait to show everyone the videos! I don't care if they do well or not it was some of the most fun I've ever had.

      Spinners would have been great for me yesterday.. hiked up to an alpine lake that is known for good cutthroat, only to get 15-20mph winds right as I got the fly gear out.

    Dude! Thanks for clipping your barbs! We have had a serious influx of fishermen this year in Colorado. Mostly due to people not having work during this pandemic. I wish more people would clip their barbs out here. Excited to see where else you went in my home state!

    Best spinners on the market, hands down are Joe's Flies. Get a variety if sizes. Always fish gold blades. Best patterns are Brown Hackle, Joe's Favorite and Black Wooly Worm. I catch 1000 plus Trout a year ( yes, I guide on the side). At least 1/3 of them are on spinners. Lighter sizes you'll need a small split shot about 12 inches above the lure. They come of course with a treble trailer hook which is,easily clipped off leaving single fly hook. Give these a try, fish them properly and they will consistently outfish any other spinner. Figure these and Trout Magnets out and you will forget about the fly rod. Trust me, I hit all methods and spinning is by far more productive. Thru the years I've had to prove that to 100 or more fly rodders . Luv your channel and good fishing

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  4 роки тому

      I agree joe's flies are very good spinners. I tend to go with black gnat or white a lot personally, although I don't think colors matter too much. I disagree that spinner fishing is always more productive though. I think it depends on where you're fishing and what the trout are keying in on. I'd say its about 50/50 assuming you have a good fly angler. A great example is my brother was fly fishing during this video and he caught bigger fish than we did on the day (and bout the same number) because he was specifically keying in on what hatches were going off. A lot of times higher pressured areas the fish are wise to most spinner techniques.

    • @bjnelson9490
      @bjnelson9490 4 роки тому +1

      @@hardmanfishing Both will work I agree and I do both consistently. I'm the opposite side of you on pressured fish. I guide in VA and NC. On pressured fish you have greater ability for reaction strikes with lures and the like. I've caught thousands both ways and enjoy both. Life depending on it and money on the line, I'll win with my spinning rod 8 times out of 10. Either way it's fun. Keep up the good work and right lines.

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  4 роки тому

      @@bjnelson9490 Reaction strikes do work a lot of the time. I guess I'd say reaction strikes and hatches going off even themselves out in my mind. But I've never fished NC! Thanks for watching and for having a convo without an argument.. seems rare on the internet these days. Tight lines!

    • @bjnelson9490
      @bjnelson9490 4 роки тому +1

      @@hardmanfishing No need for argument. We're on the same Trout Team. We have excellent fishing in Western NC. Especially our delayed harvest program. They stock this 5 times a year from Oct. Thru May. Single hook artificial only. I am very fortunate to have 5 of those streams within 30 minutes of my house. Any day I want to go for 9 months it is a party so to speak. 15 to 20 each day is really no challenge. On stocking days if i have time 100 is not out of the question. Did that twice this past year. I go quite a bit after work, 2 to 3 good hours of fun. I've been all over Southeast, Canada and some of the West. Fished Northern Arkansas multiple times as well. Actually like the Little Red better out there. Enjoyed talking with you and keep videos coming . If u ever need a contact for NC my email is troutdrbj@gmail.com Take care

    Hey man what river are you at? I'm in Fort Collins and I mostly do standard fishing but I've tried top water fishing in rivers can you tell me what weight line you're using? My setup isn't great for top water, basically casts out a whopping foot in front of me lol

    • @hardmanfishing
      @hardmanfishing  3 роки тому

      Well this river was near Breckenridge. And it was technically a creek (Trib of Blue River). And I'm not sure what your issue is. If you're having trouble casting it may or may not be your line. Double check to make sure your line wt matches your rod and reel. Also make sure your fly line is made to cast dry flies (make sure its is floating line). I'd need more info to help you out anymore! But thanks for watching

    I have to disagree with you on your point about Colorado-bladed spinners spinning better. A French blade will outperform a Colorado blade in pretty much all types of water because it spins around much easier. It will also go deeper much easier.
    I also disagree with your kudos about Joe's Flies. Those things are junk. They are too light. Even in small streams I use 1/8-ounce spinners and they work great.
    I also don't think someone wearing a white hat should be giving tips on spinner fishing. Tip number one should be that you do your best to remain unseen by the trout. Wearing a white hat is borderline idiotic.
    Sorry to be a curmudgeon but one of my pet peeves is watching videos of nimrods who think they are experts.
