There is something satisfying about having access to all of the food stuffs that quickly start to rot, and then will never be replenished once they're gone. I always found there to be something very depressing about looting shops after the power's gone out and just finding all of the rotten pizza, steak and hotdogs. They never had chance to experience the joys of being consumed by a human mouth, and that just breaks my heart, it really does.

I guess farming has it's place if you don't like scavenging houses.
Really you can play this game any number of ways and survive a pretty long time. Looting buildings, fishing, trapping, foraging, etc. And each supports a different play style, that being either supporting a permanent base or encouraging exploration and having a mobile base of operations. I think the most effective play style would be to loot any house you can find early-game, then establish a base and fortify it the best you can. When the base gets overrun from a number of reasons such as a helicopter event, you would have a car stocked with canned food and supplies. I’m not sure what you would do after escaping in a car, but you could either live life as a forager, gathering supplies from nearby towns and constantly siphoning gasoline, or you could settle in the woods and create a quaint cabin. Honestly just try something new
Someone has probably said this already. According to the wiki (and it's sometimes mentioned in the news in-game), Project Zomboid is set in 1993. DVDs were first released for general sale in 1997.
You should do some more story playthroughs. I like it when you narrate the life of one of your characters. You should make a 28 days later style game where everyone is a runner and you want to try and set up a little shelter out by a river in a secluded forest, away from any possible danger. Only you have to escape the city first. Who knows weather you make it out or die trying. It's the trials and tribulations on the way and self discovery in a harsh and inhospitable land that makes it fun. Keep up the good work
@@Seetj pretty sure I've seen it. Just think more would be cool. Just mentioned 28 days later because slow zombies would make it to easy. You want a struggle and actual fear lol
I will be soooo stoked the next time he does one of these, but they take so much effort compared to just playing so I respect his choice to wait until he feels like it to do one.
I've definitely got my "money's worth" out of this game and then a lot more. I hope they get multiplayer going like everybody else. It's a great sandbox that can be tailored to your liking.
Really hope he keeps on with this series, really enjoyed it. Also i think in terms of the base building he should actually build fences and barbed wire defences rather than just the frames.
Erasers can remove marks from maps written in pencil, dish towels are for drying yourself if wet and some rotten foods can be used in recipes after cooking lvl 7, but rotten cakes and pizzas and such are only good for compost. Also part of the placing of things, if you press r you can rotate stuff b4 placing.
If it helps when you listen to Adams Song next time, in the final chorus, the tense changes from past to present; the person struggling with a desire to die changes his mind. He decides to keep living. Uplift at the end, my guy. :) Also I love your playthroughs.
If you read the top bar of a garbage container, you know, where it shows you the weight, you'll see a button that says "Delete All". It will remove all the items in the bin from the world
I recently made a character based on Steve1989. He's highly tolerable to food illness and can eat basically anything, but I also gave him the smoker quirk since he sometimes smokes ration cigs. You're right, man. It's rough. Not only do cigarettes become extremely rare towards the end-game, but also just finding a lighter/matches took me several in-game weeks. It's beyond me why I can't light one at a damn stove, but yeah, even if I could the eventual lack of tobacco makes the trait impossible to work with. --
Seems to me, with so many towns about, and most humans gone, a smoker's issue would be stale cigarettes. Between gas stations, liquor stores, grocery stores, and cigs in houses or on people /zoms, seems like a massive supply. I'd wonder if stale cigs have less nicotine, I'd also point out nicotine gum and patches.
I got into PZ recently and I've been addicted. What a fantastic game. I know it won't help AA, now, but if you put items in trash containers, there is a "delete all" button on the top that does just that! I found that very helpful
I see that you love Project Zomboid. So why dont you try "The long Dark". Your Hero to Zero Challenge with Gerald Williams was very popular. This game should totally be your cup of tea.
Damn. I just stumbled across this fine amphibian, and listening this sweet man musing about the game, life and nostalgia is about as endearing as Garrison Keillor’s ramblings about Lake Wobegon. It inspired me get the game, and it’s amazing. Love this. Never change. ❤
I've been hoping for more Cataclysm for ages! It's definitely at least as fun to watch as this, as the sheer amount of variety and depth make it way more interesting. Besides, your narration is the reason I'm listening to this too in the first place. :)
1:12:23 From a cursory search, the very first movie ever to be widely released on DVD was in 1997. The first well-known movie to be released on DVD was Disney's Mulan (the valid one, not the live action piece of garbage) a few years later in 1999.
I was looking for this comment. And while cold water is totally viable for blood on fabric it is only ever one potential step in a process every female learns. We would be scary if we were more prone to violence.
10:30 God damn AA, you do such great work with cultivating such a perfect zen atmosphere in your videos, specifically in these longer form ones where you can really take the time and appreciate small things in the game that have irl parallels - I love it!
cigarettes are fairly commonly found on zombies, so even if you loot everything, you still find allot. Not to mention, even on rarer settings, you will probably end up with far more than you will ever need, until they make a chain smoker trait or something XD
Laughed so hard at the "couldnt you use a club hammer even if your not in a club?" Reminded me of the old Mitch Hedberg joke "I ordered the club sandwich the other day, and I'm not even a member."
Going to try to give this map a try for myself, but I also am probably going to move around furniture a lot. Double walls with crates between them to reinforce the fence, getting a farm up and running, attempting to build watch towers, etc.
Have been playing the map. Took over the same farm and converted the place into a three story bar, set up an irrigated farm out behind the garage, cleared the field, and have organized it. Also turned the former barn into a warehouse.
i didnt think project zomboid would be that hard of a game…but then i bought it. i knew it wasnt gonna be easy when i was saving my last rifle round for myself just in case i needed to speed things up a little
10:40 I used to feel much better about going to sleep as a kid when our old Kelvinator fridge would turn on, as it made such a deep low hum that it wasn't annoying, and also made you feel at home. Great memory :)
I've been thinking about it and I'm convinced that PZ is actually a farming sim...the Slackjaws are just the prerequisite challenge , like clearing out the farm at the beginning of Harvest Moon.
On the topic of Dwarf Fortress, they made another excellent game called WW1 medic. It's an incredibly good game. Once you start to understand the intricacies of the mechanics, you can really appreciate how well made it is.
Speaking of self imposed rules: whenever I play burglar characters, to counteract being able to Hotwire cars from day one, I take ALL jewelry. Rings, necklaces, bracelets, money from cash registers, all of it. 💪😤
1:05:46 I’d also say being outright idiots. Its like hey Neagan, instead of threatening those different survivor groups, offer to establish protected routes for them to facilitate trade, unite under the goal of retaking the area, and expand. Got plenty of fertile land to farm, craftsmen to make various goods and provide services, just go from there. Even acquiring a book or even better someone who knows how to make fuel would be beneficial if they grow corn. Even a brewer could do wonders for moral, even a basic moonshiner. If you build up a strong and profitable community, any new group you come across you can argue to them that attacking you would cost them the source of goods and luxuries they might miss from the old world, along with a possible ally.
Authoritarians don't care about things like that. It's about actually consolidating and controlling power and people. They will often let their people starve and die before fixing an obvious mistake or implementing much needed diplomacy. At least, historically that's the case. Never made sense to me. It's just dumb.
@@JimJamTheAdmin The idea is that any luxuries can be made LATER. Food can always be grown LATER, ensuring the people are alive and safe can come LATER, what needs to be done NOW is that "I am in control". The problem with these authoritarians, is that "Later" never happens. They're never satisfied with what control they have, so they keep focusing on the "Now", until eventually everyone dies and NOW there will never be a "Later" ever again.

Erasers not useless, you can use it to get rid of marks on the map. I know because I've spent the last 3 in game days trying to find one, I like to mark where I've been, but use different marks for 'I cleared this out' and 'I've cleared it out but there's still food here'.
Lol open concept. Was doing the same while watching your video. Removed a stairwell and multiple walls. Decided my second floor would have room with two doors for faster exits then realized its more for asthetics bc they can't get up. Btw I love that if a window is facing a sloped roof you can slide right through to the first floor.
30:38, I really feel this, it feels like a lot of new games (especially compared to the previous title in it's franchise) just don't have the same feeling, like Fallout's graphics over the years, the feel that Fallout 3 and Fallout NV had just doesn't appear in Fallout 4, like it lost it's soul with the new plastic-ish looking graphics, it's real sad to see.
Been watching this Amphibian beauty for years now, and watching longplays is.... perplexing. You've played this game for years now, and still you manage to run around with dirty bandages on for DAYS when you have perfectly clean and running water. The health icon is shaking like crazy, and you keep damaging your character with insane overencumbrance. Still.... you survive it all. I love it, but it's also infuriating
It also has to do with how fast you're going. Walking up to a fence and pressing E is less likely to result in injury than running up and hurriedly hopping the fence
I get that feeling about wanting to play a game for the emotion it gives you not for the dollar per value. some of the best games I ever paid for only last an hour at most. Same with the free ones. the Lisa game is only a half hour long and still sticks with me to this day

It's great to see how far AA has come since I subbed way back in his early days. One day I'll be able to catch a stream live when my schedule allows
I've noticed you calmed my anxiety. I feel relaxed watching.
I enjoy your stream of consciousness commentary. You seem like you’d be a good friend to have.
Someone has probably said this already. According to the wiki (and it's sometimes mentioned in the news in-game), Project Zomboid is set in 1993. DVDs were first released for general sale in 1997.
31:24 it's the difference between a hobbyist who loves the craft, and a corporate desk jockey. There is no comparing the two.
Keep up the good work
He's done that before in a previous video with a 28 days later mod
@@Seetj pretty sure I've seen it. Just think more would be cool. Just mentioned 28 days later because slow zombies would make it to easy. You want a struggle and actual fear lol
I will be soooo stoked the next time he does one of these, but they take so much effort compared to just playing so I respect his choice to wait until he feels like it to do one.
I've definitely got my "money's worth" out of this game and then a lot more. I hope they get multiplayer going like everybody else. It's a great sandbox that can be tailored to your liking.
Ohh do I have some great news you most definitely know!
@@americantacos7618 Multiplayer RP no life time. :)
Really hope he keeps on with this series, really enjoyed it. Also i think in terms of the base building he should actually build fences and barbed wire defences rather than just the frames.
Without power for several hours? Fuck it! 90% phone charge and a 2+ hour AA vod!
Also I love your playthroughs.
I was holding a bowl of cereal when the outhouse zombie appeared and it got me real good
Honestly I think the living in crap houses thing comes from a sense of humility in which you want to not feel like your living how you could
I think you mean humility, or humbleness but I like that word all the same.
@@SineN0mine3 I believe you’re correct, thanks
You just taught me the word pluviophile, and I'll be forever grateful. What a wonderful word.
‘It’s so good to be a normal human being.”
-a man in the zombie apocalypse, whilst pulling things out of cupboards and dumping them on the floor
This game should totally be your cup of tea.
agreed. i've been playing on and off for years and it has come a really long way. it's always been an immersive experience i think AA would enjoy
I love that game. Probably one of my favorite blast from the past games. So atmospheric and never ending. I'd love his commentary over that.
Damn. I just stumbled across this fine amphibian, and listening this sweet man musing about the game, life and nostalgia is about as endearing as Garrison Keillor’s ramblings about Lake Wobegon. It inspired me get the game, and it’s amazing. Love this. Never change. ❤
Watched this while cleaning up my garage for full emersion.
NOT HATING!
I would appreciate a condensed version of this as well. BTW your narration is is why I watch your videos.
he'll edit it out over the next days
Bruh that couldn't be interpreted as hating at all. That's like saying "I'm not racist but I really enjoy going to the movies"
@@GasGrassOrAssettoI mean, if you were going to see Birth of a nation maybe
I've been hoping for more Cataclysm for ages!
It's definitely at least as fun to watch as this, as the sheer amount of variety and depth make it way more interesting. Besides, your narration is the reason I'm listening to this too in the first place. :)
1:12:23 From a cursory search, the very first movie ever to be widely released on DVD was in 1997. The first well-known movie to be released on DVD was Disney's Mulan (the valid one, not the live action piece of garbage) a few years later in 1999.
It still amazes me that this game is still being developed. I remember following the development of it when I started my old job around 2004/2005.
“How much blood are you cleaning with water!?” [[women laughing in the distance]]
I’ve been binging all ur videos on the main channel omg. BUT I CANT BELIEVE I HAVENT SEEN THIS CHANNEL, THIS IS WHAT I WAS LOOK FOR!!!
I feel like I should say that propane tanks could have been put in a BBQ and I'm pretty sure they refill the torch lol
cigarettes are fairly commonly found on zombies, so even if you loot everything, you still find allot. Not to mention, even on rarer settings, you will probably end up with far more than you will ever need, until they make a chain smoker trait or something XD
Put items you don’t want anymore on a dead zombie. The items disappear when the zombie does. :)
Nice!
Laughed so hard at the "couldnt you use a club hammer even if your not in a club?" Reminded me of the old Mitch Hedberg joke "I ordered the club sandwich the other day, and I'm not even a member."
"Let's get some water, like normal human beings. Ah, it's so good to be a normal human being... And let's also take this body outside"
Sometimes it's more enjoyable to watch this man play instead of playing myself.
i didnt think project zomboid would be that hard of a game…but then i bought it. i knew it wasnt gonna be easy when i was saving my last rifle round for myself just in case i needed to speed things up a little
10:40 I used to feel much better about going to sleep as a kid when our old Kelvinator fridge would turn on, as it made such a deep low hum that it wasn't annoying, and also made you feel at home.
"... tools. The type of stuff you just walk in and grab, with your right hand, off the shelf."
I almost spit out my breakfast.
I hope someone has already told you, but you CAN cover up big glass windows and glass doors in your house. 1:16:41 you had "Add Sheet" option
Also love all your videos and hope I actually catch a stream sometime
Yeah saw that and saw him miss it lol maybe next time, eh
@@JimJamTheAdmin
The idea is that any luxuries can be made LATER.
P-Zed is like the Sims, but with danger.
This is a really interesting game! With multiplayer there could be a entire clan war!!!!!
It makes me so happy you took my name suggestion of Humperdink and its stuck xD whomever suggested Oglethorpe is a beautiful person. Together we helped make a legend of a name.
timers are also useful, you can set a sound distraction to move zombies away from malls or whatever
These runs make me very happy.
Can't believe I watched 1 hour without stopping of a man reorganizing objects
Not to ever intrude on what you want to play, but I do miss the FTL streams. I usually only watch the vods here, I might investigate to find more FTL content. Thanks as always for the superb content AA :)
The intro with the zombie in the outhouse and the long pause had me rolling!
Just found this channel and all I have to say is you sound like what I can only describe as a personified embodiment of caramel velvet that midnights as a smooth jazz MC. Cheers, good sir & thanks for the videos.
Barely started the video and nearly spit out my drink due to opening the door to the outhouse.
Interior Decorator tries to survive zombie apocalypse
34:29 I honestly thought that zombie was another player XD It was just moving so fast, but then I saw his game speed was in the second speed option.
Erasers not useless, you can use it to get rid of marks on the map. I know because I've spent the last 3 in game days trying to find one, I like to mark where I've been, but use different marks for 'I cleared this out' and 'I've cleared it out but there's still food here'.
AA: posts video

Lol open concept. Was doing the same while watching your video. Removed a stairwell and multiple walls. Decided my second floor would have room with two doors for faster exits then realized its more for asthetics bc they can't get up.
Btw I love that if a window is facing a sloped roof you can slide right through to the first floor.
30:38, I really feel this, it feels like a lot of new games (especially compared to the previous title in it's franchise) just don't have the same feeling, like Fallout's graphics over the years, the feel that Fallout 3 and Fallout NV had just doesn't appear in Fallout 4, like it lost it's soul with the new plastic-ish looking graphics, it's real sad to see.
these are some of the comfiest playthroughs. I love your commentary.
Very first zombie kill, I said "what a sh#thead"... took me a moment before the irony hit.
I find it hilarious that anyone would use a plunger as a weapon with any amount of optimism in its efficacy.
Your character must be pretty strong to be nailing boards to a freaking brick wall.
no
probably part of the reason why you're always getting hurt going over fences is because of low nimble and carrying too much.
Same with the free ones. the Lisa game is only a half hour long and still sticks with me to this day
So is having a broken leg just like... this poor character's life? xD That icon has been there for what feels like the whole fortnight.
from “we have a way to just completely get rid of things!”
to “that didn’t work at all”
😂😂😂
Omg, that was funny. He opened that outhouse door and boom zombie, quickly shuts door.
