Currently been playing 50hrs or so & Im having trouble getting myself to live a week! I get & understand how to survive, but man i just cant seem to cope well under immense amounts of pressure, from MOBS of darn zombies. But this... This already gives me info that I can easily understand & implement said info asap... So for those that are still having issue living past a month can learn PLENTY from this wise Man.
First week just watch the tv. As soon as you spawn in, run to tv, turn on, and change the challenge, volume on 1. 6/12/18. First thing kill everything around your house outside, loot a digital watch, Set alarms. Then loot the house next to you. Stock up the food. Then go back home and watch tv for a week. Also watch the 24:00 show too. It kills your boredom. Then your next play throughs will be this. Start, watch the first show(if its on). Run directly to a book store with one weapon. Use the starter pack option. Gives ya a half dead hammer and bat and a small bag. Run directly to the book buiilding and loot every book. Then run back home before the 12:00 show. Loot houses next door get watch, etc. I also have a real nice trait setup where i learn fast i read fast i dont need to eat or sleep much, i dont get scared much my fitness and strength maxed. I start the game as a melee killer who doesnt sleep or eat much rarely get tired or scared. It works awesome. I take high thirst and a bunch others. Also I didnt really get the game and do well till about 250 hours. Now I play on 4.0 insane pop with max pop on day 1 and common difficulty with no infection death. It's so much fun. I also do 3 hour days, TC
Excellent series. I've watched many 100 day videos that had interesting stories, but your videos were quite helpful with hockey's and overall strategy and tactics. Many thanks.
Very helpful video, thank you! Most tips-and-tricks videos on UA-cam are very basic 101 - which are not very helpful except for completely new players! I would appreciate more on-depth tips/guide!
As a complete Zomboid noob, but with a healthy interest in the game, I really enjoyed this video. The way you explained how you start out and all the little tricks and tips was awesome. I think you may have extended my life span by a few more days. Subbed.
Awesome video man! Very helpful as I’m brand new to the game, moved over from Dayz for a change of scenery. Will continue watching this series. Thanks for the content!
I've just finished part 15 and came back here to thank you Otto! It's the most complete and useful series I've come across on the subject. Such good explanations and attention to details, that's so helpful. Especially a bunch of little things that you can otherwise learn only by playing the game for a really long time. Would love to see more :)
Do yourself a favor and play your first game on custom sandbox, with the difficultly lowered and the loot jacked up. You need a feel for the game before you try to really play it as God intended.
I do my brother and still die in the first 4-5 hours as soon as Zombies lay eyes on me, combat feels clunky or just takes some using to but the immersion is unreal for a pixelated game =) it's so brutal and beautiful in a twisted way, i'm glad I discovered it. Complex yet it has a logical and intuitive way of doing things. Not even mentioning mods because I can't even do vanilla properly, the learning curve is steep but it locks in easy. Developers are geniuses.
@@adrianwolf1475 to get a feel for combat i found it realy helpful to turn infection off, so getting bitten is not a death sentence. also don't be afraid of ginving yourself 100 free trait points and getting all the good traits, strong and athletic make a massive differenve in combat.
@@tommerker8063 thanks mate, been playing like crazy since, since i love the game. I have mastered the knowledge of all skill now, cars, combat and building with the exception of farming that i never touched. I think it's time to dive into mods since vanilla seems a bit dull after you get the base going or i might RP/set some challenges somehow like getting to the LV bridge from the other side of the map. question: how do you guys keep urselves entertained in solo after securing a base and getting all the meds, guns, food ever wanted?
Hey ottoo, thanks for the advice, i just started playing when i saw a youtuber i watch play this game and i got curious so I searched for more playthrough,,,, i found some posted years ago and search for more because i think the old pz had some changes so i found yours thats just posted... Thank you for the tips, i needed them because i kept dying, also read some comments and i appreciate the tips in the comment too that was not mentioned on the video... Thank you again!!!
Thanks for the video, mate. UA-cam is full of crazy modded zomboid stuff, but I just got into the game (4 hours in) and wanted to get to know vanilla first.
Just started playing the game and for some reason, my first playthrough felt like a rougelike bullet-hell game 😅 I got zombies all over and just ended up with fatigue and not able to settle
been playin for a little bit, browsing the corpses and containers was hell, i figured scrolling on the column of containers tabulated between them but shift scroll anywhere is so much better holy hell
I'll be watching every video in this series.. I'll make sure to leave a like and comment on each onw.. Just got this game and also just started gaming on PC so not only am I getting used to the game but getting used to using keyboard and mouse
Oh yeah it's a tricky one to get used to when it comes to controls, so I can imagine that taking a bit of time :D But stick with it you'll get better and better! I appreciate the commend and you feeding the almighty algorithm!
Great video. I have to say though I checked whether this was a beginner guide when you engaged about 5 zombies at 19:00 For beginners: don't do this :-)
So far the only difference with Conspicuous and Inconspicuous is that slow turn look over the shoulder animation happening more often, or less often. So my guess is it makes you less noticable so it has to identify longer before attack. About a half a second, if that of difference.
this is my first real horror game in a while and omg it makes me realize why i dont play horror. i love the game so much but i make a new worl every time i die...ive made alot of new worlds and am very guilty of changing all the settings to make the zombies slow deaf and blind. trying to not be so ass before i try online
Man im new to PC gaming coming from console. Having thought i had good hand eye coordination, i find myself constantly looking down at the keyboard to see what buttons to press and trying to memorize all the keybinds lmao. This probably wasnt the best "first" PC game to play but its all i wanna play lol
I do want to make a video about how to mod, how to add mods to existing games, where to get, which I recommend, etc. It's a bit much to type out. What I can tell you is the Steam Workshop has almost all mods, it auto-updates and if you go into the main menu of the game you can turn on mods. These mods will automatically be added to any new run you start :D
I had a vreat run about a month ago. Had the tractor trailer mod on. Went to rhe prison and found a trailer 1287/1689 of weapons and ammo. Cleared the mall. Had four trailers parked outside the mall full or materials. Then, about a week later (in game) I start up my game, and ALL the trailers had vanished. Rage quit. Then, after about a week in-game
fast-forwarding time only works in single player. i dont bother with wakeful or fast learner, if you plan on playing for a long time. you can spend a whole real life day leveling skills- you got plenty of time. but thats just me.
Yeah, makes sense. It probably makes more sense to get stuff that helps in the long run than to get perks that mostly help early game. I'm not a patient man though :P
I selected all the traits he did cause I wanted to make it a preset but that set up is impossible it leaves you with -5 points so hoe did you get left with 1 left over
I do try to watch TV where I can if I have the XP boost from skill books. But if I don't have the books there's no point IMO. I think it's like 50 xp per show or so. But the first book gives a 3x multiplier, second one 5x, third 8x. Having to stop fighting/looting, going home, sitting still for a chunk of XP that's not even being multiplied is a big time investment for a small payout if you ask me. I also focused on it a bit less just to get fast progress in this series. If you can get to a school or a book store while the TV is still on and you can read some skillbooks it's great though!
I already have 90 hours in the past 2-3 weeks lol! It's that amazing man(s) and women(s)! It seriously tell you : "This is how you died" - by fightning way too much zombies at a time, by going into the house that decide to turn on the alarm, by entering the vehicle that also enabled car alarm, or looting nearby shops without checking the surroundings, or you know..thinking that your car is unstopable beast and absolute end game "weapon" to drive into group/small horde of zombies. :D PS : Disable zombie respawning everyone! zombies aren't jesus..they're just..zombies you know, once coming from the grave, return them to the grave, lol.

You get too comfortable. That’s your problem.

I been waiting 84 years for the cool tips and it's fun watching you play. Thanks
5 minutes in and I'm already learning helpful things. Looking forward to binge this series!
Glad it's helpful :D thanks!

Appreciate that! I guess most people try to make shorter video's which is understandable... But there is so much to learn :D

Cool new series, I love it. As a non-native speaker you are so good to understand, very cool!
I appreciate that a lot :D
Been looking for a series like this! I shall be binge watching
Would love some more of these - super helpful! Thanks

maybe that’s why i never make it past a week

please do the series.. im loving it.
Already recording more :D Appreciate it!
incredible let's play for a beginner like I, thank you !!
Glad I found this, this will help me loads
I'm glad to hear that :D Thanks!

Thanks for holding my hand through my first few days in Pz!
😅
The controls feel wonky, but I know I'll get used to them eventually.
Great video! I will be watching the rest and applying it to my struggles! Haha
Haha thanks :D hope it helps!
I stream 3 times a week at twitch.tv/ottosthename if you want to see more Project Zomboid or other games

Yeah you bring up a good point. If they form a really nice Conga line it might be fine, but ideally your probably want to start with just one or two.
Thank you! Helpful info and well presented
I’m at the point where I can survive long enough to get cocky when there’s one zombie lol. That’s always how I get bit too haha
😅
Hahah very relatable. Complacency is the biggest killer. Also trees. And doors. And ya know, zombies.
I have 100h but i can still learning with this kind of videos
I'm getting close to 2k hrs and still learn new things about this game every day :D

🦊 Can do!
My question for opinion is: Is underweight worth capping your strength at 9?
It's only temporary. Once your weight is back to normal your character gains the strength.

can this game handle fine on a laptop?
Turn off blood in the settings to help. It apparently bogs down the game if there's a lot of blood rendered everywhere
It's not too bad on low end hardware. If you could list your specs I can give you a better estimation
@@OttosTheName not too sure what they even are 😂 just a old laptop from college, it says it’s a i5 quad processor 🤷 doubt that helps but thanks anyway
