Dr. Edith Eger has such an amazing story and her perspective is mind blowing. What I've always internalized from her story is when she said she was going through all of the horrors of Auschwitz, she was always curious about her own life and what would happen next. She said it wasn't fear but curiosity. Under those circumstances, I found that perspective remarkable.
Also what Rangan says about compassion is wonderful. I once heard someone say that if you want to relate to the reactions of others, think of one phrase: "That's me on another day..."

Never heard of this guy before this, but this was definitely one of the best episodes you've had so far!

This was very helpful. It is a lot to process at once. I am in a crossroads with so many life issues. I need to rewire my mind at age 51. I am too anxious and negative always. This is not how I want to exist anymore.

I understand! My husband And I both suffer from anxiety and we are walking through some very challenging times right now. I don’t know if you believe in God but all I can tell you is I started turning to him every hour on the hour and praying and having him help me and help us and it’s working. I also have a very solid morning routine and evening routine and that helps me tremendously. I’ve cut out caffeine in my diet and I try to cook every meal and use as many nutritious vegetables and grass fed meats that I can but the one thing that really hit home for me in this whole podcast was the fact that our thoughts control everything else about us, and if we can learn to change the stories in our head as awful as they may be, that’s how we can learn to read ourselves of the anxiety and depression. Almost everything we think affects who we are and how we behave. The mind is very powerful. I wish you well and I will pray for you that you will manage your anxiety better. I know it’s such a beast. Hugs! ❤

I love the idea of teaching children spiritual virtues. And to take it one step further, those of us with childhood trauma (which is a good proportion if not majority of people) probably didn't receive this kind of instruction from our parents growing up, so we need to re-parent ourselves, our inner children. We need to look at our mindscapes and ask, what do I wish I would have learned and then consciously provide that instruction. This is how you deprogram all of those beliefs you internalized as a child that destroy your self worth. While it is good to be selfless, it has to be in the right context. Asking someone who has no self worth to be selfless can actually harm them further. So being selfish in your pursuit of self worth is good. Learning how to set boundaries, to know what you want, to know your innate goodness - once you get on steady ground mentally and emotionally (and even physically) then you can help others from a place of true compassion.

I loved and appreciated this beautiful , informative conversation and sharing your love for your dads. My father died when my twin brother and I were 9 months old. We don't remember him but I do feel close to him through prayer. I know we will meet him someday in the Spiritual Worlds of God.
Thou hast asked Me concerning the nature of the soul. Know, verily, that the soul is a sign of God, a heavenly gem whose reality the most learned of men hath failed to grasp, and whose mystery no mind, however acute, can ever hope to unravel.

I also love the idea of having a morning routine. I have seen huge benefits from adding one. I do affirmations (via my alarm app), breath work, prayer, chanting mantra (this all takes about 30 mins), and then go to the gym or yoga. I want to add in journaling but I haven't decided if I want to do it at night or in the morning. I love journaling and need to figure out how to make it habit so I do it more often.
