These two wonderful, intelligent gentlemen have helped me more than I can say. I went from an A1c of 11.5 to 4.9 among many other improvements due to their generosity in sharing their knowledge. Thank you!
A talk by Dr. Bikman was my first introduction to Insulin Resistance. He was recommended by my Periodontist earlier this year. Since implementing a Ketogenic diet and Intermittent Fasting in July '24, my oral health has improved greatly, the skin breakouts on my face have disappeared, and my energy levels and mental focus have improved noticeably. I owe a lot to these fantastic gentlemen, Drs. Fung and Bikman. Thank you!

Now I know, and it’s with the work with these amazing two doctor who are trying to spread the truth to help our lives. Thank you. You make a great team!
We need a medical summit for our clinicians in Canada so that they can discuss these issues with Dr. Fung, Dr. Bickman, and Dr. Robert Lustig and turn the page on what they were taught that may not be correct or accurate and move towards a better understanding of metabolic health.

My ldl shot up to 343 two months into the journey- at that point I made the decision to monitor it myself and not share the numbers, especially when it hit 623 around 6 months in. To get the doctors off your back , request a MNR lippo-profile blood test . The size of the particle matters more than the count and this test shows the size to particle count . It’s like when Ben was talking about the fat blood cell expanding so much that it starts to suffocate from lack of oxygen being too far away from the capillaries . The size matters

Thank you Dr Fung and Dr Bikman for explaining insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, and continue to explain these concepts on both your UA-cam channels. These explanations go a long way into why T2 diabetes and obesity is so prevalent now. For most carnivores, which obviously have a good handle on “what affects what” given the simplicity of the diet, constipation is the result of too little dietary animal fat.
This was a good interview it summarizes well that contemporary medicine and nutrition science are based on false hypotheses, such as: 1) saturated fat causes heart disease (CVD); 2) insulin is a treatment for Type 2 Diabetes; 3) Energy Balance Model is enough to lose weight; 4) cholesterol is clogging arteries (CVD).
Can mister Bikman or dr Fung explain this : If you look at the blood sugar in an animal or person carrying a tumor, their blood sugar generally is at least normal, and even if they don’t eat any sugar, they’ll still keep their blood sugar at about the same level. There have been many attempts to starve a cancer by lowering the blood sugar, but the tumor is sending out signals to provide sugar and protein, amino acids and fatty acids that it needs to grow. I'm glad I stumbled across Dr. Fung. I started searching about fasting wondering what was physically possible and with some of No Lab Coat Required's ideas on salt & electrolyte importance and intake (and wondering how a local Church pastor claimed to fast for seven days). What an eye opener this journey has been especially in regards to how/when/why a body stores and uses fat. I've always assumed the only way to lose weight was simply energy out greater than energy in (i.e. working out more with eating less but more often). Knowledge to when and why a body starts to use fat energy has be an awakening. I'm no longer as worried about old age (quickly approaching for me). I'm trying mightily to change habits now while I have a strong will and good health so when the future arrives, I'll be prepared.
@@annemariekeightley2670 Even after having read so much information on fasting, I still find it fascinating that a 30 day fast is even physically possible. I'm going to attempt to work to a 7-day fast at Lent.
It almost seems like type 1 and type 2 diabetes are different enough that they need different names. Right as I'm typing this he says it, that explains why I was thinking it.
Great Talk. Thank You so much. Maybe follow it up with a further talk on how Intervall fasting helps to heal as seen through the eyes of the fat specialist Dr. Bikman. I think this might give Dr. Fung's message even more power. I myself have had lots of impovements thanks to this channel but I do have very sceptic friends. Thanks again.
MAHA is very unlikely without having these gentlemen standing at the front of the class. Great talk, but unfortunately I didn't hear anything at all about the dangers with food dyes in breakfast cereal.
It would be really great to have your perspectives on female biology in relation to fasting, as there are studies that indicate that women are very different to men in this regard, particularly active women
I have all the opposite problems that don’t make any sense. I have an A1C-5.6 , triglycerides 194, LDL 138 and insulin is 3.8. I went low carb because A1C was 6.2(insulin was 6 at that time) I lost 15# and am now at 105(5’4” and no fatty liver or Fat on the inside) do you think I may have something going on with my pancreas? With these problems I would think insulin would be higher. The triglycerides are what I am mostly concerned about. Oh BTW I am a Dr Fung fan for many years. I have been IF for 10+ yrs. Mostly around 19:5 but lately OMAD.

This was very interesting, thank you. I'm curious about the role diet sodas play in insulin regulation. I've read that consuming diet soda can slighly increase insulin in the body (cephalic phase insulin response), and I'm wondering if that plays a large or small role in insulin levels.
this video is the truly best present for everyone. I wish more people watching it! I have a question for Dr Fung, hope you can see it. Alongside with lowcarb diet and fasting, what do you recommend to shrink fat cells please? I am T1D but I sometimes have obvious insulin resistance i.e. the insulin shot seemed like no shot at all, post meal glucose could be very difficult to get down sometimes I am one of those skinny fat Asians despite I eat strict lowcarb diet, no processed food and practice 168 / 186 fasting for almost everyday.
Gentlemen, I have recently heard that CT & CAT Scans can also have an effect on Obesogens thus disabling us to lose weight. What do you guys think. This is a genuine enquiry from a Type 2 diabetic. I am subscribed to both of you following Jason with intermittent fasting and Ketovore rather than Insulin or other diabetes drugs, Ben, I have tried Allulose but found my weight started going back up. I had a Melanoma removed 2 years ago and have undergone 4 of those tests at 6 month intervals since then with no metastasis found, thankfully
I asked my son’s doctor for a fasting insulin test with the lab orders for his physical. He said he couldn’t do that because he wasn’t an endocrinologist. I am so disappointed in medicine.
Cut out all sugars and carbs, eat protein and fats and do not cook in seed oils, you will eventually eat less often due to the slowing down of the production of Grehlin in the gut, thus you are not as hungry. I eat once a day, I have gone from obese to normal weight and off all medications. 🥩🐷🐏🥓🥚🍖
Awesome conversation! Thanks!!! It could it be that those cells hypoxia may turn into fermentation instead of normal oxygen respiration and then become cancerous cells?
With so many endocrine disorders we lable them as hypo or hyper with the name of the gland or hormone so why not call diabetes hypoinsulinemia (type 1) and hyperinsulinenia.(type 2)?
My client was on keto diet and lower her sugar till normal, when she went to Dr he said - oh wow ! What have you been doing? She said - i eat eggs and bacon fried on ghee 😊- doctor was 😱😱😱 oh noooo - you must not do so ! U are on metformin so u must eat carbs 😳 and why u eat eggs and ghee - you will have high cholesterol 😮! 🙄 client comes back to me and i must explain again and again that we didn’t do anything wrong- diabetes is allergy on carbs , so if we leave carbs we will leave metformin eventually 🤨 ! So much confusion for people- as people wants to believe to Dr 😳😳😳😳
I wish someone would address what the Emmerichs preach about there being a protein called ASP that can help store fat without the presence of insulin. Please doctors...clarify this.
@Nanaurbiznaz ASP is a real protein that facilitates fat storage independently of insulin, particularly in response to dietary fat. Insulin gets most of the attention in fat storage discussions, but ASP shows that fat storage is more complex than just insulin levels. Maria’s idea is valid, but ASP activity alone is not enough to drive significant fat gain-it still depends on overall calorie intake and metabolic conditions.
@jewel2274 i was asking the doctors . All you did was regurgitation what Emmerichs said. I want a scientist like Dr Bikman, who actually studies metabolism, to respond.
I can't fast.. yesterday I had my last meal at around 2.30 p.m. and tonight I woke up in the middle of the night starving..... I had a piece of butter and then a glass of hot milk otherwise I couldn't sleep. How can you do?
Gotta start easy with a keto diet to get you to run out of glykogen. I'd say 3-4 days without any carbs should do it. Being in a calorie deficit will also help and speed it up.
@GamingNormaly I did it.... Only keto for 8 days... Maximum 30 gr of carbs a day. I couldn't sleep because I probably had too many proteins and went pee every hour.. but I'm not on a diet, I don't need to lose weight so I have to eat something and if I get rid of carbs I have more fats and proteins and then I can't sleep because my kidneys are too busy and stressed 😥 I'm a fan of keto and fasting because I like to believe they can be beneficial for my longevity and health but I feel great in a low carb.... And maximum doing a 8/16, sometimes 6/18 i.f. no longer
@@electron7659 I usually don't have dinner as I go to bed early (9.30p.m.) and wake up at 5.30. I usually have 2 big meals a day, the first at 9 and the second in the early afternoon and then, depending on what I had, how much I moved and how I feel, if my body is ok, I just go to bed and eat the next morning after 16 or 18 hours, otherwise I have a little something like a piece of butter or a salad in order to be able to fall asleep. This isn't bad. I'm the same weight I used to be ages ago, healthy and strong. I would like to do a longer fast sometimes for longevity 🧬 like 36 hours but I would struggle so I wonder if it's worth it.....
@robyroby1902 I have to get under and stay under 20 carbs. I have slowly worked my way up on my fasting window. Still working my way up to 3 day water fast. I can do about 24 hours now before I get to feeling to bad. It’s been a slow process to work up that far. There might be tricks, but the foundational piece i know of is to do keto or keto-vore, under 20g.
I know of many people who have fasted for a month
Nothing at all healthy about breakfast cereal. Avoid the cereal and avoid the dye! :)
You need them to tell you something you know is bad, is bad?
@@adambarnes4191 No. But your response to my comment very clearly tells me that my use of sarcasm needs improvement.
@1969spp 🤣. The /s always works too.
Two incredible minds! Wow!
We love you best together ❤️
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you, great video.
Great discussion, learnt alot 👍🏼
De novo lipogenesis is the clearance pathway for excess serum glucose. Insulin resistance is the diminished capacity for de novo lipogenesis.
Awesome Dr 👍👍
The two most favorite men in my life………..
@Florida_Mollie. Have you heard about Lean-Mass Hyoer-Responders?
I raised 75k and Grace Christina Elizabeth is to be thanked. I got my self my dream car 🚗 just last weekend, My journey with her started after my best friend came back from New York and saw me suffering in dept then told me about her and how to change my life through her. Grace Christina Elizabeth is the kind of person one needs in his or her life! I got a home, a good wife, and a beautiful daughter. Note!:: this is not a promotion but me trying to make a point that no matter what happens, always have faith and keep living!!
I've always wanted to trade Crypto for a long time but the volatility in the price has been very confusing to me although I have watched a lot of UA-cam videos about it but I still find it hard to understand.
😱Sounds familiar, I have heard her names on several occasions.. And both her success stories on wall street journey!
Hello from the Texas. I'm not in awe to find positive reviews about Mrs Grace cristiana Elizabeth.. I retired 2 years ago and got his referral from my kid who works in Finance. It's been a smooth ride since then.
Finding yourself a good broker is as same as finding a good wife, which you go less stress, you get just enough with so much little effort at things
Yeah, 100k from Ms Grace, looking up to acquire a new House, blessings.
This was very interesting, thank you. I'm curious about the role diet sodas play in insulin regulation. I've read that consuming diet soda can slighly increase insulin in the body (cephalic phase insulin response), and I'm wondering if that plays a large or small role in insulin levels.
Fascinating lecture.
this video is the truly best present for everyone. I wish more people watching it!
I have a question for Dr Fung, hope you can see it.
Alongside with lowcarb diet and fasting, what do you recommend to shrink fat cells please?
I am T1D but I sometimes have obvious insulin resistance i.e. the insulin shot seemed like no shot at all, post meal glucose could be very difficult to get down sometimes
I am one of those skinny fat Asians despite I eat strict lowcarb diet, no processed food and practice 168 / 186 fasting for almost everyday.
I feel like my parents' hormones are messed up from taking statins. I really hope the medical industry will change their minds on Cholesterol.
Should I stop taking my Crestor or wait until I have lowered my insulin
Very good information.
💚🏜️💚Bikman and Fung 🤩
Gentlemen, I have recently heard that CT & CAT Scans can also have an effect on Obesogens thus disabling us to lose weight. What do you guys think. This is a genuine enquiry from a Type 2 diabetic. I am subscribed to both of you following Jason with intermittent fasting and Ketovore rather than Insulin or other diabetes drugs, Ben, I have tried Allulose but found my weight started going back up.
I had a Melanoma removed 2 years ago and have undergone 4 of those tests at 6 month intervals since then with no metastasis found, thankfully
Brightest minds🎉
So, any specific suggestions on how to decrease insulin 🤔🤷♀️
GOATS 🐐 🐐 ❤🎉
I asked my son’s doctor for a fasting insulin test with the lab orders for his physical. He said he couldn’t do that because he wasn’t an endocrinologist. I am so disappointed in medicine.
Dr. Fung could you have a further discussion on the fat cells?
Dr Fung. Will extended fasting, at least 5 days, clear arterial plaque? Is there a certain length of time to fast to facilitate this?
Please let Dr Bikman talk more next time. I was expecting more of an interview
Loved Dr. Bikman's book! Great conversation.
What about APoB??? Is it important to keep it low? If so, how do we keep it low and not affect LDL cholesterol?
What a great pair!!!!!
Would I be ok to do two meals at 1,000 calories a day for my body building efforts?
Where can I find the studies for HRT affecting heart disease and breast cancer ?
So, Drs Ben and Jason, how does one correct chronic hyperinsulanaemia - can intermittent fasting efficiently reverse the condition?
Cut out all sugars and carbs, eat protein and fats and do not cook in seed oils, you will eventually eat less often due to the slowing down of the production of Grehlin in the gut, thus you are not as hungry. I eat once a day, I have gone from obese to normal weight and off all medications. 🥩🐷🐏🥓🥚🍖
Awesome conversation! Thanks!!! It could it be that those cells hypoxia may turn into fermentation instead of normal oxygen respiration and then become cancerous cells?
Is this Jason Fung's channel? Why does it say Brad G? I want to be sure im subscribed and watching on Dr Fung's channel.
With so many endocrine disorders we lable them as hypo or hyper with the name of the gland or hormone so why not call diabetes hypoinsulinemia (type 1) and hyperinsulinenia.(type 2)?
The cynic in me supposes intentional obfuscation. Why are they now calling insulin resistance metabolic syndrome?
Dr Fung, do you have a video in which you explain specifically about HDL an LDL? I would like to know more.
Dr. Fung's "Is the Keto Diet Healthy (Saturated Fats) uploaded in 2021 is one of many videos that discuss cholesterol.
Thanks!
My mind is blown!! Awesome interview!!
37:49 So, insulin signals liver to hold on glucose and to release triglycerides. Why then liver is "deaf" to the first signal but obeys the second? 🤔
So what tests do we need and what is allowed here in canada
I recommend Doctor Bikman and his writing to everyone! Brilliant conversation. Will share ❤
One question while fasting chewing gums can break the fast ??
Two dynamos. Thank you!
@@Nanaurbiznaz Well, maybe my answer will help someone else. Also, you don’t know my background but I hope you find the answer you’re looking for.
@jewel2274 i know you aren't Dr Bikman
@@Nanaurbiznazrude.
And this isn’t how you connect with and get information from a specific doctor.
I couldn't sleep because I probably had too many proteins and went pee every hour.. but I'm not on a diet, I don't need to lose weight so I have to eat something and if I get rid of carbs I have more fats and proteins and then I can't sleep because my kidneys are too busy and stressed 😥
I'm a fan of keto and fasting because I like to believe they can be beneficial for my longevity and health but I feel great in a low carb.... And maximum doing a 8/16, sometimes 6/18 i.f. no longer
Are you able to fast during the day and only eat dinner in the evening??
Which technically falls under the fasting-mimicking diet, so you can get a lot or many of the benefits of fasting in regards to autophagy
Autoimmune diseases are on the rise. Is there any relationship between hyperinsulinemia and autoimmune diseases?
Yes my 20 year old neuropathy went away by 90% when i quit carbs. The official diagnosis was shingles virus firing up nerves in the head
