I'm 73 years old, and I found a slip of paper in one of my Mom's old cookbooks. On it was a recipe in my GRAND mothers handwriting for how to can apples for pies. It was just like what you have done here. I always have canned my apples this way since I found her recipe.
Please share your Mother's recipe. My brother & I are craving our Great Aunts apple pie filling which she taught our Mom to can but can not find written instructions left by either Angel.
i love canned apples! i canned apples like this before i ever tried pie filling. i agree, you can do so much more with them. my kids loved them right out of the jar! 😆 beautiful job, Mama. 🤗❤️
Genius way to preserve just apples! Not pie filling or butter, just plain apples to be able to use in other recipes or eat plain. Thanks so much for sharing this method!
Very pretty. My mother use to talk about sulfur apples. She said her mother layered them in a crock. The funny thing she put the crock on step to upstairs where the boy slept. She said grandmother Redmon was upset when she went to get some and found the kids had been seaking apples when they go up or down.
Did this 2 years ago in a 5 gallon bucket when my trees gave us more then an abundance. Yes they are crisper and will make wonderful pies. I think this is the best way to jar up apples.
Miss Lori I had to come back and rewatch this video, I’m going up north to visit family and they said I could bring back as many apples as I want and thanks to you I know how I can preserve them. With much love & respect, Connie
I use a gallon bag to weigh down my projects in my crock like yours. When fermenting I fill the bag with salt water, with apples and eggplant plain water. Works great! Will be using your method to put up my winter apples in the fridge!
I’m so glad to see this video! This is exactly how I want mine to turn out! I don’t like them soggy. Thanks so much. I know this is an older video. I can meat all the time and beans and broth etc. I need to do fruit. I love this process. God bless! Thanks
I'm super excited about this! It would be such a great time saver to pop open a jar of those when making a fruit salad, or just to have on a plate with good cheese for an easy lunch. Thank you so much!
This sounds great and I'm going to try it tomorrow if I can find more jars. When I put my lids in my pan to heat them I alternate their orientation with seal down then seal up then seal down again. It keeps them from sticking to each other.
Awesome video, thank you for trying different ways of canning, so we can learn from your efforts. I think these would be great in a Dutch Apple Pancake cooked in a cast iron skillet. YUM!
Hi Ms. Lori ! Great 👍🏻 canning vid! The apples still look crisp and tasty. Chicken salad with these apples or just dip them in peanut 🥜 butter...yummy!! Love 💕 it! 😘😘

Hi Miss Lori and Mr. Brown! I got a good sale on six pounds of apples and just made your canned apples. For the liquid, I used the two cups of juice from the pressed apples, two cups of the lemon water the fresh-cut apples soaked in, and two cups of our favorite Apple Cider. They turned our fantastic. Six pounds of apples gave us four pints and one jelly jar. (We're snacking on the jelly jar.) Thank you so much and God Bless you always. +
I canned up 20 quarts of apples with this recipe. They came out great! Using this method the fruit doesn't all float upward in the canning jar. I will be doing this next time for sure. Thank you Miss Lori. ❤
Oh my word! You just saved me tons of time!!! I was shelling pinto beans while watching this video and I was planning on making apple butter tomorrow while I dehydrated celery, orange bell peppers and and then processed sweet potatoes, winter squash and regular potatoes. Thank you so much!!!

I did the Granny Smith apples as apple pie filling and made a home made pie for my Husband with home made pie crust - he loved it. So, now we will have apples saved for whatever we want. Could not wait to try this, worked great. I ate the whole jar for dinner. I have never heard of canning apples this way, so very glad i found your video. I believe the bigger slice the better. I used Gala apples and just a simple syrup. I've been canning for several years, like you anything I can put on my shelf . I have been canning my apples in a light simple syrup. I can thicken for pie filling, drain and add to pork roast , and just use an immersion blender to them to make applesauce (family favorite) or just eat right out of the jar.
Just had the first taste of these apples, I had my sister in law, whose specialty is baking, make us an apple pie using 2 quarts of theses apples, she put in 1/4 cup of sugar, some cinnamon & lemon juice. The apples were not mushy, still had life to them & had a great fresh taste to them. I will get more apples to make more this year. Thank you!
That makes me Happy!!!
I am definitely doing this!!! Thank you so much.
Thank you for watching Georgann
They look really good! I think a little cinnamon on top would be nice to add when eating :)
Your videos are so relaxing to watch. Just like chatting with a friend I look forward to listening and watching as you chat while you show us how to do this and that. I appreciate all the effort you and Danny go to for us. Hugs from Australia 😀💕
I love your apple recipe. I’ve used it the past two years. Just wondering if I could fix spiced apples the same way, adding the spices to the juice when I warm it.? Any advice would be appreciated.
Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. My Grandmother canned apples like this when I was a little girl. They were so good but I never knew how she did it. I will be doing some of these for sure. My husband and I went to the apple house here in East Tennessee yesterday and brought back
1 1/2 bushels of apples. I can't wait to do this. Blessings to you and Mr. Brown
I made your recipe and loved it! I wonder how it would taste with brown sugar? Thanks a lot, I love your channel!
