  • LANTERN IN THE NIGHT by RACHEL ROSE MITCHELL, symphonic rock song from the album HEART OF MINE.
Like Thorns, which is also on Heart of Mine, Lantern In The Night is a song about moving on from being beaten down, about getting on with your life and realising that you're more than the terrible things people have said to you.

    LANTERN IN THE NIGHT LYRICS:
    I saw the end.
I saw the ending at the start.
Though I never said a word aloud,
I knew it in my heart.
    All I ever wanted
was to make the smiles real.
I felt that was worth the hurt
and time it took to heal.
Though I knew I never could,
I swore I’d make it through.
    If you repeat ideas enough,
    it doesn’t make them true.
    I tried
to force my circles into squares
    and I denied
that what I wanted wasn’t there.
    I looked for light
In corners darker than the dark side of the moon.
But still, in spite of you
    I shine
Like a lantern in the night.
    Nowhere to hide.
You’ve never seen me shine so bright
    as I do tonight.
You clipped my wings and cut my claws.
    I let it happen then.
    I didn’t know what I was missing
    until they grew again.
So though it hurt, and oh it hurt,
    I tore myself away.
Sometimes you've gotta bleed before you heal enough
to keep the dark at bay.
I could see so well in the night
that I felt blinded by the sun.
But easy doesn’t make it right.
Sometimes it’s better just to run.
    I tried
to force my circles into squares
    and I denied
that what I wanted wasn’t there.
    I looked for light
In corners darker than the dark side of the moon.
But still, in spite of you
    I shine
Like a lantern in the night.
    Nowhere to hide.
You’ve never seen me shine so bright
    as I do tonight.
    I’m free. I fly. I live. I shine.
    I tried
to force my circles into squares
    and I denied
that what I wanted wasn’t there.
    I looked for light
In corners darker than the dark side of the moon.
But still, in spite of you
    I shine.

Your lyrics make me write lyrics. And after many years, I'm finally going to release them and unleash what's inside. Thank you for your beautiful mind and the courage to be.

These lyrics are some of the most beautiful and heartfelt words I've ever heard. Why is this not more popular?

After listening to several examples of this lady's music I wonder if she is writing about things in her past. And if so, how fucking horrible is that?
The pain, the hope, the pure intensity of the life of this individual shines through her music in a manner I have seldom felt or heard.
    Well played...Well Lived!

This was based on personal experiences. If you look up her website, you can see the past on so many of her songs. She'll explain most of them.

I remember when I first heard of you and your music. It was when I found the UA-cam video for your old album "Where's your Wonderland" and I loved it right away. After I downloaded that album I would listen to it (and sing along) all the time: on the bus, at my old high school (I graduated about a year ago), at home and even at night when I went to sleep! For the past few years your songs have helped me to get through all the ups and downs of my life and I know they will continue to do so.
I was so happy when I discovered your newer songs here on UA-cam!
You are amazing, don't ever let anyone cause you to think otherwise.

This has got to be my favorite of your songs, but Falling Like the Sky is a close second! They're all amazing, especially with the deep meaning in each one!

Rachel Rose Mitchell 🌹, Recently I watched many of her You Tube Vlogs. After I watched, the lyrics of the brief clip we're in my head so I looked up your awesome haunting song! 🎶 Wish I could be of more help - she was riding in a car at night in the fall - not sure if '16 or '17!
