    One major point to add
At 7:03 you can see there has been 4 13mm nuts removed from the plate that runs round the centre tunnel they need to be removed as the bolts go through the subframe and also more bolts behind the cat to enable the plate to drop down enough
Apart from that a very useful video.
    Just about to finish removal.
Dud the same as Rick and soaked the steering rack bolts and removed very carefully. One side was easy the other half a turn loose to quarter back.
Just need to sort centre plate then hopefully should be removed today

Great video. So clear, professional. My 2004 Alfa 156 needs a new steering rack, so just eduating myself. This was really helpful.

Thanks Rick! I've seen a lot of your films and they're a great help for me doing a restoration a spider v6. Much appreciated!

Very helpful, thanks. This subframe also fits alfa 145 and 146.

I've got this job coming in a couple of weeks because i'm pulling the gearbox so removing the subframe will be just the start of it. Praying its not too rusty

Excellent video. The impact wrench you are using seems to work very well. As far as I can see it's very similar to something advertised on Ali express but which does not ship to the UK. Can you recommend something similar? Thanks 👍

Hi Rick. Nice work! Very useful for preparing updates for my Alfa Spider. Need to change the clutch and also update the front suspension and brakes.
Can you tell me the height of your axel stands? Need to buy them first...
    Greetings from the Netherlands.

Hi Rick, thanks for the video. Fellow GTV V6 owner here from Sydney, Australia but originally from Manchester. You did a great job on the rear end from the pics. I polybushed mine with Strongflex bushes from Poland, but luckily here I in Aus I didn't have to deal with rusty compenents! Your doing well doing this in your 1 car garage. Where are you from, Bolton? couldn't pick the accent. Cheers Steve

porsche356a Hi Steve. Thanks for the comment and kind words. I’m from Sunny St.Helens in Merseyside. Somebody’s got to be haven’t they haha! Yes, it can be a challenge working around the car in the garage but I somehow make it work. I do at least feel fortunate to have one though otherwise this wouldn’t really be possible to do on my driveway. Thanks again for the comments 👍🏼

Hi Rick. Great video. Im using to work out how to remove the subframe from my GT. I have a question. If you look at a screengrab at 3.31 at the top, along the line of where the exhaust goes, you have a pair of holes on either side. On my car these holes have the studs from the bolts poking through. They go through the subframe and into the exhaust tunnel lining. But, on my car there is no room to lift the bolts out (i have undone them and taken off the nuts). They lift upwards which impacts on the floor plan of the car. And as they also go through the subframe and the exhaust frame I am kind of stuck ?!?
I noted that your subframe does not go back as far as these bolts, did you remove them or where there none there when you did the car? If you did remove them can you give me any pointers?
    Cheers bud.

M Spencer I think I know what you mean. I’ll try my best. All you need to do is remove the nuts as you have done. The threads are actually a bracket which come down with the subframe. You don’t need to remove them prior to dropping the subframe. At least I know you don’t on the GTV

    • @_RicksGarage
      @_RicksGarage  4 роки тому

Forgot to mention that you also need to unbolt the tunnel lining and lower the front of it down slightly in order to drop it down off the threads if you get me. Just as I’ve done here. Then you can lower the subframe with threads/brackets attached

@@_RicksGarage Brilliant! Took the middle of the exhaust off and lowered the tunnel lining. Now having a nightmare undoing the steering rack bolts. They will not budge for love money or blackmail! Typically they are the last 2 bolts I need to undo (except for one of the dog bolts).

M Spencer sounds like they could be seized in there. Try shocking them with hammer a few times. I also used an impact wrench which helps.

@@_RicksGarage I've hammered, impact driver, breaker bar, wd40 and Plus Gas. I've also ordered a blow torch which will be here tomorrow.
