How about if you just fix it for me or refer me to someone that can that's in the Bay Area near the Oakland Airport my name is Marvin by the way that's a little too involved than what I want to be dealing with I rather pay to have someone do it
When my cables on my 2000 f150 broke 10 or more years ago the replacement cables were too expensive, I tried homemade fixes and nothing worked, so I abandoned drivers side but had two awkward strings to pull to open the passenger side to load tools. Never putting lower panel back on. The other day doing some repairs with bondo I thought I might try it, luckily I watched your video first and order them from Amazon. Three days later I have working doors. I never understood people crying with joy till today. Thank you soooooo much for your video.
I have an 03 Ford F-150 with this exact issue. Took me about 2 hours to do both doors and now they are working perfectly! Thanks for uploading and making this video it helped a lot
The “hex” bolts on the top and bottom latches were hefty T-25 Torx screws on my 2001. And the liner “paper” that I peeled off was a form of vinyl plastic. It was quite tough and didn’t threaten to disintegrate. So, I’m happy to have a special truck that made the work easier for me. (No stripped hex heads). Thanks for the video, guys. It was a big help. One thing about the metal replacement parts, I echo an earlier comment about opening up the center of the slot so the cable will have more clearance to move. You can drill it if you’re good with a drill press, or you can use a small round file. I actually drilled, then cleaned up with the file.
I just found this video to fix my truck. This is the best repair video on the internet. Because I will end up doing this job just like you did. Thanks!
Excellent video. I liked that you named all of the tools needed, including the socket sizes. Both of my wife's rear doors broke about the same time. I repaired both using your video. It took me one hour for the first, about 30 min for the second. Well done chaps!
What a bargain. Took me about 3 hours (I am not mechanical). I also had to skin some of the outer coating off the cable. But, it works great! You can spend $169/assembly and they are just as hard to install!!! Tremendous help.
Some mistakes that I learned when doing mine but thanks for making a video showing what the problem was. You don't have to pop out the connectors on the end that connect to the release mechanism. There is a little yellow clip that flips open allowing you to pop out the cable and threaded end which is also handy to know when you need to re-adjust them. You also don't have to remove the inner door handle. However overall the video was very helpful, and I got my doors fixed for about an hour and $16 to do both doors.
What's so aggravating is that the engineer who designed this latch system most likely suggested metal cable seats, but some MBA dictated the use of plastic.
Engineered maintenance requirement so the dealership garage gets repair business. Exactly why I prefer Japanese vehicles and every Ford I've ever owned stays broke down.
Thanks, I've had the door panel off for a couple of years, using a string on the two cables to open the doors. Was going to try rigging something but I watched your video and ordered the parts from Amazon. THANK YOU AGAIN.
Thanks guys. Orilley's had them in stock. Fixed my 2001 F150 in just a couple of hours. Never realize how dark it is in the back seat until you try to fix something.
Thanks for the video guys...I fixed my aunts door today in an hour and a half, after I got back with the parts. You guys saved me a ton of time, and her a bunch of money! Now I gotta get 2 kits to carry in my 2000 F250.
I swear engineers design vehicles not to make a profit but to piss off those who will have to fix them later on. Good video. Thanks for sharing. Get another cameraman. 🤣
Thank you so much for doing this video. The drivers side back door on my 2000 F150 stopped opening. I was able to open up the panel and find that the cable sheath for the upper latch had detached from the door handle mechanism. I just hooked it back up and it worked! Didn’t cost me anything. Thank you!
Very helpful video. Your step by step pics and explanation were great. The only thing I ran into is that, if you do not push the new metal parts down over the sheath of the cable, they will not fit when you reinstall them. It didn’t appear that you had that trouble, but I did in my case.
Outstanding, just outstanding. My 1997 door broke recently; I had no idea what was going on and suspected that it got jammed on a piece of towel lying on the floor. This helps. Thanks.
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I have been quoted some pretty high numbers on fixing my truck doors. I followed this video step by step and it worked. I am so happy. Thank you again very much.
Great video, thanks. This was perfect for me but the length of the cable for the upper bracket needed some “assistance.” I had to cut away more of the black plastic to make both fit but this was very helpful. I even stripped one of the fasteners too. Awesome.
I love your guy's goofy jokes. I also really liked how detailed the descriptions were and that the camera angles and close ups were spot on. Nice video guys!
Appreciate the video. After watching it I had both open and fixed within 30 mins. Many different things can be used to brace that cable so if your stuck improvise
I've seen this done without removing the cables but you can't see what they're doing to change the ends. Your video explains and shows everything perfectly...thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for the video. I've got it to do on my 2000F150. One broke a few months ago and wasn't much inconvenience. Yesterday the other broke so I came looking for info. Yours was the first and last stop.
I agree with Sam Hill. Something’s broke, I go immediately go straight here to see magic performed & learn to fix whatever it may be, illuminating the frustration (and the fear) of royally £¥#*ing up by diving in with no idea what to do. I’ll be tackling this job in a couple weeks (in the middle of pain in the ass stuff: moving, looking for right home, etc) and will have my pad right there with me with your great instructions along with some dynamite tips I got from a couple other catalogs I’ve come across. A million thanks for all you folks for sharing what you love to do. You folks have hiked my interest in so many DIY, etc things I’ve never had in my 50 years. Peace, YouTubbers! Rob
Great video. I've been doctoring this very problem for two years now. I just placed an order for the repair parts through Amazon Prime and they'll be at my house tomorrow. Thanks for the short, right-to-the-point information about this repair, minus the *fart* in the middle of video of course....
My second door cable broke today. The first one broke about 3 years ago. Needless to say, it's time to do something about it. This video is much appreciated.
Good video. Thanks for the tip on removing stripped out torx screws. I was forced to use both the angle grinder to cut a slot as well as the wrench attached to the screwdriver to remove a screw. Replaced 3 screws with hex bolts M6-1.0 x 12mm ($4 at Advanced Auto Parts). Also, agree that you have to bottom out the cable covering inside the metal cable seat. Finally, adjust the grooved cable end forward or aft in the plastic clip as necessary to achieve proper cable length for operating door latch. (It can be a fine adjustment to achieve proper operation.)
My '02 F-150 has had this problem for several years and I have just been putting it off. I know this will help me get the job done once and for all. I am so tired of reaching over the back seat. Thanks
Great video! The plastic ends on my cables could be peeled off by hand (2000 F150). I managed to get the cable off and back on the bottom of the second door without taking out the mechanism, it came out fairly easily by just moving the cable around a bit. To get it back in, I had to hold the (shockingly small) latch release all the way up with a wire hook while feeding the cable in past it, and then moving it into place. It took a while and a lot of light, but was still less of a pain than taking the mechanism out. I was able to force the new metal ends into place with a small needle nose vice grip inside the door. Your mileage may vary.
I do appreciate the video. I saw you take the 2 hex screws out of the bottom latch but didn't see you actually remove that latch. I couldn't get my bottom latch out after removing the 2 screws. Top latch came out easy. Neither top or bottom latches are very easy to line up the holes again to put back in. Easy to cross thread screws. You also didn't come back to the metal cable holder that has the 1 square side to it but I already understood that one goes on the lever mechanism side I believe whereas the others are interchangeable for the other cable ends. I can do something like replace lower ball joints, heater hoses, front struts, back shocks, windshield fluid nozzles, etc on a 2007 Jeep Commander but gave up on this! It's more tedious than the video had me believe. Maybe I've over done it recently working on cars but I'm taking this 2000 F150 to my mechanic to fix both rear door latches!
Just want to say thanks for a great video that helped me buy the right tools and parts to get my broken door fixed in a good amount of time. The learning curve always takes a lot of time and you saved me so much time. If we were closer I would buy you an adult beverage of your choice. All the info contained in this is all you need to get this done except one small item. The plastic on the cable housing must be removed for the metal tips to work properly. Once I figured that out it was on! Even with a suspect camera man this is a top notch video, thanks again.
Thanks for this video, your explanation was better than most. I would recommend just using a razor blade for the plastic ends. I replaced my two doors (all 4 locks - 03' F150 XLT) in like an hour and change. Thanks!
Thanks guys! Excellent video. Both doors on my 2003 F150 broke today. And truck only has 18,500 miles on it. Darn plastic parts. Thanks for making the video. I'm sure it has helped many people.
Thank you for your cheesy jokes that I loved. Your humor, product share, tools needed & great detail on this nice video. Will order the parts & replace. Thanks.👍
Video has been very helpful... thanks. My driver-side door had a connector break a few years ago, and I only replaced the broken terminator... a mistake... had to open it up later and finish the job. One thing I wish I had done was pull through a pull cord when I removed the upper latch and cable. This would have made is much easier to reinstall.
Thanx of all the vids I’ve watched on this subject your the only one that told of the amazon repair ends, others say use bicycle brake ends. Thanx again 👍🇺🇸
Very good job. Long enough to show what was needed, but now a lot of wasted video. Entertaining also. I liked that you screwed up a bolt, but showed a good way to get out a stripped bolt. I need all the tricks in my bag to fix my mess ups.
Mine didn't go easy like the video. The cable would get lost in the door somehow on re-inserting it into the door. I had to pull it back out, run thin rope up through the door with a length of wire, tie the rope to the cable and use the rope to make sure the cable went where it was supposed to go. This came in handy more than once because the first time of putting the ferrules in place, I didn't have them slid up onto the plastic cable housing far enough, and there was no way I could make the cable stretch far enough to reconnect it. So, like one of the others on here, I used a Dremel to remove some of the plastic. This was an ok move, except that now the cable was slightly to long; the door would still not open. I observed the adjustment device on the end, and adjusted out all the slack, and finally, now it works fine.
Thanks for sharing. I got the parts and I am ready to do this on my truck. It should be fun. I won't strip the bolts..., I hope. If I am mad, I will stop till the next time.
Grrat video! The push rivet on the left side of the lower door panel is removed by GENTLY pressing the round center until it pops. Then it can be pulled out. To reinstall, push the center out from the back side past the flush position, insert it and press the center flush again.
Thanks for the vid! Both of my doors locked up within a week of each other and used only this video as reference and was able to complete it all by myself. I saw in a comment that you didn't need to take out the handle and was able to do both sides without removing it although I think it should make it easier to repeg the one placement clip on the top piece much easier if you want to fully complete the job. Gotta really squeeze and cramp your hand to get in there otherwise. Anyway, helped me fix my problem. Thank you.
Yo.. took me about 3hrs to finish. 39 minutes re-watching vid. 21 minutes of liquid courage. 24 minutes r/t to buy parts. Rest of time figuring out and scratching head why door open and close with whole assembly out. Whatever, great video. Was getting angry too!!!!
Replacement parts ended up ok but i had to use my cutting disc to make the recessed area that slides into the bracket a little thinner. Also did not have to remove lower cable to replace both ends. Had enough access. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the great video guys from the land down under. I was quoted $1000au for a new handle latch kit, i just ordered the ends from ebay us total cost $65au and 3 hours labour when they arrive in 6 weeks
Thank you both! It worked and your video was sufficiently funny. I did find that for my cables I had to trim off some of the plastic so the metal pieces would fit.
Dude, this is an awesome video! By far, one of the most simple yet instructive videos I have ever seen. Having said this, I will never try this at home. "A man's got to know his limitations," so said a wise man (Dirty Harry aka Clint Eastwood) and I know mine. But next time this happens to me, I won't let myself get ripped off by a mechanic.
We fixed a friend's 1999 F150 rear doors thanks to this video but cost us 13.00 for each door. Hasn't opened in 8 years. I would like to say that the ends you put on the cables fit in a slot that we didn't know because they were all broken. Had to take one door apart 2 times because of this. Just saying. Thanks for the video.
Nice job. This video actually reminded me that I have done this before! It was a 2000 Ranger. So, this fix works for the compact trucks too. Same repair parts.
Thanks guys. Thanks to you and another video, I was able to make a temporary fix with a spot tie, and have ordered the cable end fittings to complete. Thanks again
thank you so much. that was exactly the problem and i had with my 1999 F150. The local auto parts shop thankfully had the dorman 926-111 parts in stock and i had 3 hours of sunny weather.
Thanks for the video.. Used vice grips to squeeze the old plastics off.. Lived with one of the doors inop for over a year.. The second one failed and a couple of hours and all is right again..

I have been without a 3rd door for 4 years. I came right to this video, Kinda excited now....Thank You !
Omg I actually fixed my dad's door with this video! THANK YOU!!!
Good job, lady mechanic!

panel snap, two phillips and a 10 😆Over paid engineers. Thanks for the vid.. Life saver you guys..👌👍
You guys are absolute dorks. ❤ Thanks for the video, I am finally going to have a working door again.
I got an estimate from my Local Dealer and it was over $200 to do this Job! Great video guys!!
What's so aggravating is that the engineer who designed this latch system most likely suggested metal cable seats, but some MBA dictated the use of plastic.
Yea, some jackass MBA who lives in a condo and doesn't own a drill.
Ford makes more money
Engineered maintenance requirement so the dealership garage gets repair business. Exactly why I prefer Japanese vehicles and every Ford I've ever owned stays broke down.
He also bought the US patent for the replacement clips and made millions on replacement parts.
Excellent video! Just bought my grandfathers 2002 F150 and within the first month both rear doors did this😂
Thanks, I've had the door panel off for a couple of years, using a string on the two cables to open the doors. Was going to try rigging something but I watched your video and ordered the parts from Amazon. THANK YOU AGAIN.
You did a great job delivering all the information needed. If you're not cursing you're not doing it right. 😂😂🤣 Great job guys..

A free repair is the best repair!
Going through this right now, hoping like hell it's the same in my situation! Wish me luck a year later lol
My door works again! Thanks guys
Was super easy after watching you guys and yes, I bought a magnetic tray!
Thank you for adding the parts list. So much time saved not having to find the parts you used. 🙌🏽

Worked like a charm. Thanks for putting the part name and number in the comments.
Thank you guys I watched several videos couldn't understand anything you explained it you guys are amazing love from Memphis
I've seen this done without removing the cables but you can't see what they're doing to change the ends. Your video explains and shows everything perfectly...thanks for sharing!!!
Thank you, I'll fix my Ford 2003 150 back doors next week, I have the new parts , I needed this presentation .👍

I’ll be tackling this job in a couple weeks (in the middle of pain in the ass stuff: moving, looking for right home, etc) and will have my pad right there with me with your great instructions along with some dynamite tips I got from a couple other catalogs I’ve come across.

Great video. I've been doctoring this very problem for two years now. I just placed an order for the repair parts through Amazon Prime and they'll be at my house tomorrow. Thanks for the short, right-to-the-point information about this repair, minus the *fart* in the middle of video of course....

Glad you had this on UA-cam. Mine just broke and now it's fixed. Just like that. 👍
Thank you for the video you saved a good bit of bad language that my neighbors didn’t need to hear! Good job
My '02 F-150 has had this problem for several years and I have just been putting it off. I know this will help me get the job done once and for all. I am so tired of reaching over the back seat. Thanks
Thank you. I purchased the ends from Amazon and put them in today. My door now works the way it is supposed to work.
I've worked as a Ford tech for how long and this is the first time I've heard of these. My 01 is getting them this week.

Great video. Just fixed all the cables in both doors on my 2001 F150 in about three hours. Thanks.
Just want to say thanks for a great video that helped me buy the right tools and parts to get my broken door fixed in a good amount of time. The learning curve always takes a lot of time and you saved me so much time. If we were closer I would buy you an adult beverage of your choice. Hey, thanks for this. I didn't have the slightest clue what to do. I also enjoyed the humor.
Much better video than the last video from somebody else
Thanks for this video, your explanation was better than most. I would recommend just using a razor blade for the plastic ends. I replaced my two doors (all 4 locks - 03' F150 XLT) in like an hour and change. Thanks!
I used tile nips to gently squeeze the old plastic ends and they easily broke right off.
Very nice, I have two F150's with this issue, now I can fix the problem.
Thank You
Definitely going to use this when flipping ford rangers, it's such an extraordinarily common problem! Thanks!
I could have a beer with you guys I owe you at least a case! You saved me big bucks.
Thanks guys! My 2003 F-150 Heritage broke today.
Thanks guys! Excellent video. Both doors on my 2003 F150 broke today. And truck only has 18,500 miles on it. Darn plastic parts. Thanks for making the video. I'm sure it has helped many people.

Much more complete than the Ziptie method. Good job.
Great video Thank you I've done alot of trial-and-error Mostly error in which leads to two hour fix into a two day fix
Thanks bro! Good video. I even stripped a screw and fixed it the same way you did. 😅
How did we fix stuff before utube? Thanks man fixed my 03 F150👍🏿
I can't tell you how many things I've fixed, researched and found out info on, because of UA-cam. Love it!

The Outside Life Me too man!
What about the front doors?
You sent your wife to the dealer
Y’all just saved me a bunch of money thanks 🤘🏽🤘🏽
Huge thanks for giving that part number brotha
Grrat video!
The push rivet on the left side of the lower door panel is removed by GENTLY pressing the round center until it pops. Then it can be pulled out. To reinstall, push the center out from the back side past the flush position, insert it and press the center flush again.
Nice video guys. I have the same issue with my 2000 f150 and now I know how to start and what part to use.
Just got the door fixed. You earned a like
Thanks for the vid! Thank you.
👍
I have a 2000 f150. Fixing to watch this video. Thanks
Yo.. took me about 3hrs to finish.
Thank you for the tutorial, I will go ahead with my repair, driveway mechanic.
Thanks for the great video guys from the land down under.
I was quoted $1000au for a new handle latch kit, i just ordered the ends from ebay us total cost $65au and 3 hours labour when they arrive in 6 weeks
Great video guys. Just ordered them on Amazon for $6.99 and free shipping.
Awesome video! I just had the same problem in my 98 and this video did the trick!
Thanks I really needed the info... goid stuff. Also that ratchet-to- screw driver was genius!
Thanks guys.
Thanks to you and another video, I was able to make a temporary fix with a spot tie, and have ordered the cable end fittings to complete.
Thanks again
Thanks guys. Double success on my F150 today.
So title says thru 2014, he said thru 2004-05. Is it the same I have 2013 F150 XLT. WOW!! Looks like a lot of scary work! Good vid!
Thanks!
I appreciate the parts list, too
Yall are adorable! Keep up the good work and thank you! Told my hubby I wanted a truck and I'm doing the repairs myself. Xoxo
Thank you for your video, it was very helpful to me... I got my two doors fixed thanks to the information on your video.
thank you so much. that was exactly the problem and i had with my 1999 F150. The local auto parts shop thankfully had the dorman 926-111 parts in stock and i had 3 hours of sunny weather.
