Not true but you be you.. at times the knowledge and factory training wins.. have seen 1000s spent a dealer later fixed for 100s. But yes for most repairs, your own hands or a trusty garage is prolly abetter choice.

@@stansddsthis is true, as a rule of thumb a properly run dealership earns about 75% in service; however, you have to keep in mind they are servicing vehicles for more than a year. The typical vehicle returns there for at least 3-4yrs while in warranty and that service income includes warranty work as compared to the amount made on selling vehicles which is a one and done income, not a continuing revenue stream like service is.
Saving a customer from a $3600 bill sounds pretty fantastic to me! Worthy of a video for sure. Shows that used parts don’t mean broken, and that trying is always worth it. Stop doubting it Wes, just keep posting vids. Shop looks great man!
Module Repair Pro in Van Nuys California will repair that module for $149 dollars. I've used them in the past and the service was great. If I'm not mistaken, the $149 covers return shipping back to you, but you still need to pay for the initial shipping to them. I had my ABS brake module back in hand about 5 days after I sent it to them. I would use them again, no question. No programming required.... you get YOUR module back.
I did the same for my 2009 F 150 a few years ago. I’m pretty sure it was the same Van Nuys company. Best money spent. I had no idea entire assembly was so expensive. No way I would have spent $3600. Truck had over 200k miles. It’s still going. 🤞🏽
I got one from a junkyard and I just reprogrammed it with un-named software that rhymes with ford and scan. 2005 ford f150 4.6 2wd, remember that when searching for modules as they are all different for configurations.

My abs module went out a year ago on my 2016 ram 1500, and I can't even get a new one, lots of class action lawsuits. Frustrating. Also happy to watch anything you put out, thanks for sharing your work with us!
I do not care about repeats, your troubleshooting process, and fixing the broken part and seeing it good again is what gives me satisfaction. I am tired of all my favorite creators chasing subscribers/views. Just keep doing what brought me here and we will be ok. Now saying that at 75 and having seen the world turn upside down I may be wishing for something not attainable. Who cares about what I want, except for me maybe. What ever you do is up to you and if you make a mistake I am sure you will be told by some keyboard commando from his mom's basement.
Eh, I've been subscribed for almost 4 years now I think. Can't speak for everyone but I watch your channel more because I like you, the way you discuss things and tackle problems more than for "evergreen" content. All Watch Wes content is good content, even if you end up working on the same stuff over the years.
I don't mind the occasional similar videos because they tend to have different issues in the diagnosis/repair. Like others have said you're great at what you do and we really enjoy your humor and personality. You're the kind of guy everyone would like to have as a friend. Rock-on!
Regarding repeating topics, the thing that I appreciate most about your videos is the process you go through. You aren't just good at troubleshooting, but you're also good at explaining how you approach the diagnosis. I heard you say that you're looking for "evergreen" content, but watching your process gets me thinking about troubleshooting in a way that I am unlikely to come up with on my own. The repetition helps me learn, so even if the topic of the issue is familiar, the 'reps' still help me follow your thought process and build my own mental muscle. In any case, I appreciate what you do and look forward to seeing how you approach things.
ABS controllers are nuts. I had a failure on the yaw rate sensor on my 2012 Honda Civic (hello YRS!) and the dealership wanted $2,700 for a new ABS module, and another $1,000 for installation and programming. On a Civic the YRS is part of the electronic module, and you cannot just swap the electronics on the ABS controller because they are coded to the ECU (yes, really - it is considered a safety feature. Swap the ABS and they will just not work until it is reprogrammed, and no dealership will do that). I found a place that would reflow a new YRS onto my existing ABS module. I shipped it off to them, they fixed it, and I reinstalled the same exact one. It cost $240 with shipping. No reprogramming needed. The only hiccup is it took 2 weeks for shipping since it got stopped at customs since it had to hop the Canadian border to the USA. I will say that I envy how easily you were able to get those brake lines disconnected - it was NOT fun on mine, but mine had like 140k miles on it at the time. At 220k now and still strong.
As much as I love the very wide variety in your work and as useful your insights on drillbit sharpening, welding and wooden construction are for me, I really have been missing vehicle repair stuff.

Of course a lot of you-tubers don't realize that the majority of the audience are watching for entertainment not reference and don't mind watching jobs that have been done before. Sure, it would be a bit coma inducing to watch changing a battery in a Ford F150 every week but as long as there's variety in the repairs, it fulfills the entertainment factor. And that's just my two cents anyway.

A lot of these shops/dealers have lost their minds... no conscience. My daughter in-law went to get a state inspection, car is 1-year old, told her it needed a can of BG44k... cost?? $300. Now it's $24 a can, any fool can poor it in the tank... $300?? Really. She called me, I told the mechanic that if I wasn't 7 hours a way, I'd hang my foot in his ass. Car passed inspection (really?) and away she went. Damn crooks. Keep up the great work... I'd watch you clean your ears with a Q-tip... just keep doing your thing!!

You mentioned that you created a video about replacing the ABS module, but since you did not have to replace the Electrical module, this was not a wasted video and you showed how easy it was. Sometimes we have to take the extra step to get it right and you did just that.
Good guidance! Three years ago BMW E46 ABS Module $2500 - ebay $50 for same repair. Getting at the unit was like heart surgery in the E46 - buried under master cylinder with knot of piping. Replaced electronics and valve body from the get go. You saved your customer big bucks -- super service!!! (Three Stooges quote...)

I like the everyday stuff. I dont care if its repeated. I see it as free classes in repairs and fabrication if all kinds. I have several 20 plus year old vehicles and I sort of enjoy the challenge of keeping them on the road. Seeing the stuff you work on helps me learn new and better ways of doing my own stuff.
the journey is often better than the actual parts replacement. I enjoy the troubleshooting as much as anything especially on unusual codes. If I can watch you repair a dishwasher I'll pretty much watch anything.
I wouldn't sweat doing some videos that you've done a few years ago. People just want to see your face on a regular basis. As far as the ABS module goes, it seems like a great business opportunity for someone with some mechanical skills to rebuild these units, along with an instruction sheet on how to reprogram the module once installed.

you are one man, who owns the equipement of large company. Now your shop is a mess. Free the space, do car-repairs. We, your viewers, your customers, we like it! Sell all machines, buy a sandblaster or a dry-ice-blaster. This is very good for yt, you will love to work with that equipement. Buy old scrap-cars, repair them, use or sell them, if not enough car-customers find their way to your repair-shop. Sand-blast everything! Have fun, bring videos to us!
All of your videos are new to me, even the repeats. Keep 'em rolling! My thoughts on the cost of parts. They price they based upon the VALUE of the part, not the acutal cost to manufacture and distribute the parts. Without that part, the truck's value becomes the value of scrap metal. I can't see $3.6k+ in that part either. I've posted before that dealerships charge 2x-5x the retail price that cosumers can buy themselves. My story: A well known car window replacement franchise Saxxxxte wanted to charge me $320 for a window regulator + $150 labor. I scheculed the repair but the part didn't come in. So I rescheduled the repair. When I received the new work order, the price went up by $28. I cancelled the job. I found that part on Amazon for $44. So I bought it and installed it myself. Never did it before on any car, but I learned by doing.

Stabilatrak is a GM thing. 15-20 minute videos are just about perfect. And even if you do the same repair, there is always something different about each job that isn't repeated.
I have a 92 Thunderbird Sport the antilock brake system went out on it. It was about 20 years old at the time. Ford never built enough birds with antilocks to even think about building a replacement unit. I had to go pull a power brake unit off of a 99 crownvicky and convert it over to power brakes. It worked still have the car still runs like it did when it was new!!!!!!

I wouldn't touch an F-150 with a 10 foot pole, and I sure wouldn't buy one of those iPods on wheels, but your methodical approach to diagnosis helps me out a lot when I'm fixing my 20 year+ old vehicles from a less rusty part of the US.

I am here to watch you fix, explore, create and build any type of vehicle or machine you find interesting. I enjoy the diagnostic and engineering mindset and every now and again you inspire me to push my boundaries with a project of my own. I will never own a backhoe but I sure like learning big about diesel engines and hydraulics as I encounter them from time to time on other applications. Just do what you find interesting and chances are most of us will be interested as well.

I got the ABS warning on my 09 F150. Being unwilling to pay stupid prices for a repair, I sent the electronic module to a place in Los Angeles to be repaired. IIRC it was a little north of $100. It came back and worked! Plug and play, no programming needed as it was my original module.
A cup of coffee and a new video from Wes. It’s gonna be a great Saturday. Like so many others, I’ll watch whatever you post. I wish I lived closer, I have a couple vehicles that could use your expertise. ❤ from WI.

Dealer costs are becoming ungodly. I was quoted $2600 for ONE catalytic converter recently. No labor, just the part. I went aftermarket and got both cats brand new for half the cost of the one Mopar cat. I'm hoping prices start going the other way soon. Everyone needs to live!
While you don’t want to repeat, we out here see different things, and in the end we are here to watch you drop tools on the floor just as much as fix things. It’s a human story as much as a technical one.
I'm a dealer tech and i have been able to swap multiple hcu blocks to the original module. That was a weird one. Oh and we'd watch you do the same things over and over again. It's not the content, it's your attitude and approach to the jobs that's bringing the views

I am tired of all my favorite creators chasing subscribers/views. Just keep doing what brought me here and we will be ok. Now saying that at 75 and having seen the world turn upside down I may be wishing for something not attainable. Who cares about what I want, except for me maybe. What ever you do is up to you and if you make a mistake I am sure you will be told by some keyboard commando from his mom's basement.

Eh, I've been subscribed for almost 4 years now I think. Can't speak for everyone but I watch your channel more because I like you, the way you discuss things and tackle problems more than for "evergreen" content. All Watch Wes content is good content, even if you end up working on the same stuff over the years.
I don't mind the occasional similar videos because they tend to have different issues in the diagnosis/repair. Like others have said you're great at what you do and we really enjoy your humor and personality. You're the kind of guy everyone would like to have as a friend. Rock-on!
Regarding repeating topics, the thing that I appreciate most about your videos is the process you go through. You aren't just good at troubleshooting, but you're also good at explaining how you approach the diagnosis. I heard you say that you're looking for "evergreen" content, but watching your process gets me thinking about troubleshooting in a way that I am unlikely to come up with on my own. The repetition helps me learn, so even if the topic of the issue is familiar, the 'reps' still help me follow your thought process and build my own mental muscle. In any case, I appreciate what you do and look forward to seeing how you approach things.

ABS controllers are nuts. I had a failure on the yaw rate sensor on my 2012 Honda Civic (hello YRS!) and the dealership wanted $2,700 for a new ABS module, and another $1,000 for installation and programming. On a Civic the YRS is part of the electronic module, and you cannot just swap the electronics on the ABS controller because they are coded to the ECU (yes, really - it is considered a safety feature. Swap the ABS and they will just not work until it is reprogrammed, and no dealership will do that).
I found a place that would reflow a new YRS onto my existing ABS module. I shipped it off to them, they fixed it, and I reinstalled the same exact one. It cost $240 with shipping. No reprogramming needed. The only hiccup is it took 2 weeks for shipping since it got stopped at customs since it had to hop the Canadian border to the USA.
I will say that I envy how easily you were able to get those brake lines disconnected - it was NOT fun on mine, but mine had like 140k miles on it at the time. At 220k now and still strong.
As much as I love the very wide variety in your work and as useful your insights on drillbit sharpening, welding and wooden construction are for me, I really have been missing vehicle repair stuff.

Of course a lot of you-tubers don't realize that the majority of the audience are watching for entertainment not reference and don't mind watching jobs that have been done before. Sure, it would be a bit coma inducing to watch changing a battery in a Ford F150 every week but as long as there's variety in the repairs, it fulfills the entertainment factor.
And that's just my two cents anyway.

A lot of these shops/dealers have lost their minds... no conscience. My daughter in-law went to get a state inspection, car is 1-year old, told her it needed a can of BG44k... cost?? $300. Now it's $24 a can, any fool can poor it in the tank... $300?? Really. She called me, I told the mechanic that if I wasn't 7 hours a way, I'd hang my foot in his ass. Car passed inspection (really?) and away she went. Damn crooks. Keep up the great work... I'd watch you clean your ears with a Q-tip... just keep doing your thing!!

Just to let other viewers know, the LAUNCH Creader Elite F (which is like $120 on Amazon) can program the Ford ABS Module (and other Ford modules). I did my ABS module on my F150. Good video.

You mentioned that you created a video about replacing the ABS module, but since you did not have to replace the Electrical module, this was not a wasted video and you showed how easy it was. Sometimes we have to take the extra step to get it right and you did just that.
Good guidance! Three years ago BMW E46 ABS Module $2500 - ebay $50 for same repair. Getting at the unit was like heart surgery in the E46 - buried under master cylinder with knot of piping. Replaced electronics and valve body from the get go. You saved your customer big bucks -- super service!!! (Three Stooges quote...)

I like the everyday stuff. I dont care if its repeated. I see it as free classes in repairs and fabrication if all kinds. I have several 20 plus year old vehicles and I sort of enjoy the challenge of keeping them on the road. Seeing the stuff you work on helps me learn new and better ways of doing my own stuff.
the journey is often better than the actual parts replacement. I enjoy the troubleshooting as much as anything especially on unusual codes. If I can watch you repair a dishwasher I'll pretty much watch anything.
I wouldn't sweat doing some videos that you've done a few years ago. People just want to see your face on a regular basis.
As far as the ABS module goes, it seems like a great business opportunity for someone with some mechanical skills to rebuild these units, along with an instruction sheet on how to reprogram the module once installed.

The automotive content is probably my favorite, but I like all of it. I'm more here for the entertainment than anything else
All of your videos are new to me, even the repeats. Keep 'em rolling! My thoughts on the cost of parts. They price they based upon the VALUE of the part, not the acutal cost to manufacture and distribute the parts. Without that part, the truck's value becomes the value of scrap metal. I can't see $3.6k+ in that part either. I've posted before that dealerships charge 2x-5x the retail price that cosumers can buy themselves. My story: A well known car window replacement franchise Saxxxxte wanted to charge me $320 for a window regulator + $150 labor. I scheculed the repair but the part didn't come in. So I rescheduled the repair. When I received the new work order, the price went up by $28. I cancelled the job. I found that part on Amazon for $44. So I bought it and installed it myself. Never did it before on any car, but I learned by doing.

Stabilatrak is a GM thing. 15-20 minute videos are just about perfect. And even if you do the same repair, there is always something different about each job that isn't repeated.
I have a 92 Thunderbird Sport the antilock brake system went out on it. It was about 20 years old at the time. Ford never built enough birds with antilocks to even think about building a replacement unit. I had to go pull a power brake unit off of a 99 crownvicky and convert it over to power brakes. It worked still have the car still runs like it did when it was new!!!!!!

I wouldn't touch an F-150 with a 10 foot pole, and I sure wouldn't buy one of those iPods on wheels, but your methodical approach to diagnosis helps me out a lot when I'm fixing my 20 year+ old vehicles from a less rusty part of the US.
It doesn't matter if you show us repeat work we just like to watch you fixing things.
They don't have to justify $3600 for that ... they want you to justify trading it in on a new one.

I am here to watch you fix, explore, create and build any type of vehicle or machine you find interesting. I enjoy the diagnostic and engineering mindset and every now and again you inspire me to push my boundaries with a project of my own. I will never own a backhoe but I sure like learning big about diesel engines and hydraulics as I encounter them from time to time on other applications. Just do what you find interesting and chances are most of us will be interested as well.

I got the ABS warning on my 09 F150. Being unwilling to pay stupid prices for a repair, I sent the electronic module to a place in Los Angeles to be repaired. IIRC it was a little north of $100. It came back and worked! Plug and play, no programming needed as it was my original module.

Dealer costs are becoming ungodly. I was quoted $2600 for ONE catalytic converter recently. No labor, just the part. I went aftermarket and got both cats brand new for half the cost of the one Mopar cat. I'm hoping prices start going the other way soon. Everyone needs to live!
While you don’t want to repeat, we out here see different things, and in the end we are here to watch you drop tools on the floor just as much as fix things. It’s a human story as much as a technical one.

I'm a dealer tech and i have been able to swap multiple hcu blocks to the original module. That was a weird one. Oh and we'd watch you do the same things over and over again. It's not the content, it's your attitude and approach to the jobs that's bringing the views
